Billy Joel Announces Final Madison Square Garden Shows for 2024

Billy Joel’s famed Madison Square Garden residency is coming to an end, and the final dates are coming up fast. Most of the final New York dates are selling out very quickly or have already sold out, but fans might have luck finding seats through StubHub .

The Madison Square Garden residency started back on November 22 and is expected to come to a close on July 25, unless Joel decides to add additional dates. The last show will be Joel’s 150th-lifetime performance at the Garden, marking the end of an incredible era for the singer/songwriter.

Joel hasn’t said much about his residency ending on social media, and instead has been busy promoting his new song “Turn the Lights Back On”.

Billy joel, rod stewart announce cleveland co-headlining stadium tour date.

Billy Joel and Rod Stewart – two of the most respected recording artists in history – have announced a one-night-only performance at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, OH on Friday, September 13th. The iconic musicians will each perform their most beloved songs from throughout their illustrious careers. The spectacular show promises to be an unforgettable evening of live music.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, February 2nd at 10 am EST via Ticketmaster . Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Monday, January 29th at 10 am EST until Thursday, February 1st at 10 pm EST.

This is the third show Joel has announced today as the legendary Piano Man is known for sharing one date at a time, usually weeks apart. Earlier, Joel and Sting announced a joint performance at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for November 9th and The Alamodome in San Antonio, TX for October 25th. The pair will begin their joint headlining run on February 24th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa with stops at Petco Park in San Diego on April 13th, and Busch Stadium in St. Louis on September 27th. Joel and Stevie Nicks who began the joint One Night Only run in 2023, will continue to tour together with performances at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on March 9th and at Chicago’s Soldier Field on June 21st.

Joel has also announced solo shows for Seattle’s T-Mobile Park for May 24th and Denver’s Coors Field on Friday, July 12th.

New York’s quintessential son is one of the greatest musicians of our time. He began Madison Square Garden’s first-ever music franchise in January 2014 that continues to this day, performing one show at The Garden each month. Joel’s record-breaking residency will end in July 2024 , a little more than ten years after it first began, marking Joel’s 150th lifetime show, which have all sold out at the venue. Joel’s MSG shows have redefined the concept of residency. The scope and ambition of Joel’s residency, where he has played once a month at Madison Square Garden, is unprecedented.

This summer, Joel will also perform his first-ever show in Cardiff and his only European performance in 2024. Joel will be performing a one-off show at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday, August 9th, joined by special guest Chris Isaak.

Joel has been added to the performance lineup for the 66th Grammy Awards for Sunday, February 4th in Los Angeles. He will perform following the release of “ Turn the Lights Back On ,” his first new single in decades.

Billy Joel’s Madison Square Garden residency is wrapping up in just a matter of months, and fans couldn’t be more sad about it.

After the 100th concert that just passed, Joel is slated to perform four finals shows at Madison Square Garden on April 26 , May 9 , June 8 and July 25 .

Those who are especially upset are the fans who were watching the CBS special celebrating Joel’s 100th concert at MSG .

Right in the middle of his iconic song “Piano Man,” CBS ended the special abruptly, and fans watching were switched to local network content instead.

Anger and frustration erupted, so now CBS is set to re-air the special this Friday night from 9-11 p.m.

For those who are frustrated enough to ditch the re-airing and get concert tickets, they are still available to buy on all secondary market websites.

Fans can find tickets on StubHub , Vivid Seats , TicketCity , SeatGeek and Ticketmaster .

With these being his final shows in New York City for the time being, tickets are expected to fly off the market.

The cheapest ticket for one his MSG shows, before fees and at the time of publication, is $263 on Vivid Seats .

You don’t have to be in a New York state of mind for Saturday’s sold-out Billy Joel and Sting concert at Petco Park. But you will want to be well prepared to ensure a smooth and enjoyable evening of music by these two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

The Petco Park show will mark an encore performance for Joel, whose 2016 performance at the home of the San Diego Padres sold out all 42,000 tickets in a record 42 seconds. Sting, the veteran solo star and former member of the band The Police, will be making his debut at the downtown ballpark.

The versatile music legends and longtime friends will share the stage Saturday at Petco Park in San Diego, where they are likely to team up for a song or two.

This will only be the second joint stadium concert anywhere by Joel, 74, and Sting, 72. To help you navigate what will be a crowded concert on Saturday, here are 15 things you should know.

1. The concert’s scheduled starting time is 7 p.m. Sting will open the concert with his band, followed by Joel and his band.

2. All gates at Petco Park will open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and early arrival is encouraged. No re-entry will be allowed.

3. Padres parking lots will open at 1 p.m. for concertgeoers with pre-purchased passes. Limited day-of parking will be subject to availability. No tailgating will be permitted.

4. Use of public transportation is strongly encouraged. The final post-concert departure times for the San Diego Trolley from the 12th Street & Imperial Avenue Transit Center, which is the closest station to Petco Park, are as follows:

• The last Green Line trolley to SDSU and Santee leaves at 11:36 p.m. However, if the concert goes late, additional trains may be provided, according to a San Diego Metropolitan Transit Service representative.

• The last Blue Line trolley to UTC leaves at 11:38 p.m.

• The last Blue Line trolley to San Ysidro leaves at 12:07 a.m. Sunday.

• The last Saturday night Coaster ride from downtown San Diego to Oceanside departs at 11:40 p.m.

5. All tickets for the concert are digital and can be found in either the MLB Ballpark app or the Ticketmaster app. Details on how to access or transfer your tickets are available online at mlb.com/padres/tickets/mobile/guide

6. Concertgoers with non-field level “seating bowl” tickets may enter at the following gates:

• The Gaslamp Gate, located at the intersection of K Sreet. and 7th Avenue.

• The East Village Gate, located at the intersection of K Street and 10th Avenue.

• The Park Blvd. Gate, located at the intersection of Park Boulevard and 10th Avenue.

• The Home Plate Gate, located at the corner of Park Boulevard and Tony Gwynn Drive.

7. Concertgoers with tickets for seats on the field — designated as sections A1–A7 and B2–B6 — must enter at the Gaslamp Breezeway, located at the intersection of 7th Avenue and K Street for field access. Those ticket-holders must obtain a specific field-access wristband before they can gain entry to the field level. Field wristbands are available at the Gaslamp Breezeway.

8. Concertgoers who purchased a suite can enter, starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, through any of the non-field level “seating bowl” entrances.

9. No outside food or beverages are permitted, including factory-sealed water bottles and reusable water bottles.

10. Petco Park prohibits backpacks and bags, with the exception of single-compartment clear plastic bags not exceeding 12 inches by six inches by 12 inches, infant and medical bags, and clutches and purses no larger than 5 inches by 7 inches.

11. Petco Park offers mobile lockers, located at the Premier Lot near the pedestrian bridge across from the Home Plate Gate. Locker rentals cost $12 and are cashless. The lockers will remain open for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the concert.

12. Petco Park is a cashless venue. Credit cards, Padres Pay, Google Pay and Apple Pay are accepted at all concessions locations within the ballpark.

13. No professional cameras or selfie sticks are allowed.

14. Petco Park is a smoke-free facility. Use of tobacco, vaping and e-cigarettes is not allowed inside the stadium. Designated smoking areas will be available at each main gate.

15. Frisbees, hover boards, hula hoops and Chapstick are among the items that are prohibited at Petco Park. A complete list is available at: mlb.com/padres/tickets/concerts/prohibited-items .

Some Billy Joel fans put the pressure on CBS after it bungled its broadcast of the singer’s Madison Square Garden milestone show over the weekend.

CBS aired “The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden” on Sunday evening. The special offered viewers a look inside the celebratory March 28 concert, part of the singer-songwriter’s historic residency at the New York City venue. In the 90-minute special, Joel, 74, performed his multiplatinum hits for thousands of attendees who swayed and bobbed along to his upbeat tunes.

For some at-home-viewers, however, the Sunday broadcast ended a few minutes too early. Specifically, the telecast abruptly cut to black as the New York-born Joel sang the final verse of the night’s final song: “Piano Man.”

In videos posted on X (formerly Twitter), several viewers shared clips of Joel singing the lyric “and the microphone smells like beer” before the broadcast pivots to local CBS news coverage.

“Daaaang @CBS you didn’t have to do the piano man Billy Joel like that,” singer Sid Kingsley tweeted. “He was just getting to the good part.”

“IDK whose decision it was to cut off the end of the #BillyJoel concert for local news (AFTER starting 30 min late!) but it’s unacceptable,” wrote another fan . “#BillyJoel100 is an iconic moment in history, & all we wanted to do was ‘forget about life for a while’ & you destroyed it. @CBS @cbschicago.”

The broadcast mishap inspired jokes and GIF reactions shading CBS, and prompted some fans to share what other viewers missed. One X user shared concert footage of Joel’s fans singing a capella to “Piano Man,” though it’s unclear whether the video was from the 100th Garden show.

In a statement shared with The Times on Monday, CBS said that the controversial cutaway was due to a “programming timing error” and affected broadcasts in the Eastern and Central time zones.

“We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song,” the statement said.

As a result of the disruption, as well as “overwhelming demand from [Joel’s] legion of fans,” CBS said, it will rebroadcast the singer’s milestone concert “in its entirety” on Friday at 9 p.m. local time.

A representative for Joel did not provide additional comment.

Fans hoping to relive the moment before Friday can do so by streaming “The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden” in its entirety on Paramount+.

The Grammy winner will end his decade-long Madison Square Garden residency later this year, he announced last June.

“It’s hard to believe that we’ve been able to do this for 10 years,” Joel said during a press conference. “I didn’t know how long it was going to last.”

He added: “I’m now 74, I’ll be 75 next year. Seems like a nice number.”

Since 2014, Joel has performed at the Garden every month. It was a gig that was supposed to continue only until demand fell off. But that never happened.

Joel’s residency will end in July with his 150th lifetime performance at the venue, which has already sold out .

“There are a lot of venues out there but only one Madison Square Garden,” he said in 2015 , “my home away from home.”
