How to increase FPS in EA Sports PGA Tour

While video games are taking steps closer to providing realistic experiences by raising the visual fidelity and other such aspects of the game to a new level, they are mostly plagued with FPS and other issues. And it looks like  EA Sports PGA Tour  is no exception. Thankfully, there are certain tweaks that you can apply to increase FPS in the game.

How to increase FPS in  EA Sports PGA Tour

You can increase your FPS in  EA Sports PGA Tour  only on the PC platform as, at the time of writing this guide, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, the game is locked at 30 FPS. 

However, EA has addressed the lack of a Performance Mode, and as per the game’s official FAQ and Forum , they are currently examining the game to check if it’s possible to add Performance Mode. 

How to Increase FPS in  EA Sports PGA Tour  on PC

When it comes to increasing the FPS of any game on your PC, the primary question you must ask yourself is, how good is my hardware? And am I running the game on suitable graphics settings based on my GPU and CPU? 

If you have a low-end PC, we recommend you run the game on 720 or 1080p Screen Resolution with most visual settings turned off or set to Low. Doing so will give you a massive boost in FPS. 

Now, if you have a mid-end PC, you can play the game on 1080p with Medium to High visual settings. To ensure your FPS is not compromised at any point, we recommend you turn on “Dynamic Resolution Scaling” while locking the FPS to 60, which is more than enough for a sports game. 

That aside, there can be some cases when you own a decent piece of hardware and still can’t get good FPS in  EA Sports PGA Tour . In that case, check if your graphics card has any pending driver updates. If yes, then update the driver and restart your PC. 

Apart from that, you can also open Task Manager and select the “Performance” tab to check if your system has enough resources to run the game. 

Even if you have a beast of hardware, there are many cases where due to viruses or some applications running in the background, most of your CPU and GPU resources are under use, causing stutters and lag while playing games like  EA Sports PGA Tour.  

If multiple applications are running in the background, you can close the ones that are not needed for the moment or use applications like Razor Cortex Game Booster to free up resources.

Meanwhile, if your PC is infected with a virus, you can scan and remove it using Windows Defender or any other third-party application.

EA Sports PGA Tour gets a 60fps mode and more via title update

EA Sports PGA Tour has added one of the most requested things from the community via a title update today: 60fps mode.

One of the biggest complaints about the game is that, despite looking incredible and being current-generation only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, it didn’t offer a performance mode at launch, but title update 4.5 has added that exact option, which EA says means console players can now use the new “visual quality” setting to switch between quality mode and performance mode, via the in-game visual settings screen.

EA says that quality mode “represents the game’s default and original setting, which provides the highest quality visuals at 30 frames per second (FPS)”, while performance mode is “an all-new rendering mode, which provides smoother camera motion and animation at 60 FPS, at the expense of lower resolution and visual fidelity”.

The screenshot at the top of this article is performance mode, while the image above (just up there) is the quality mode, if that helps you decide to use one or the other.

Ahead of the US Women’s Open kicking off next week, EA Sports PGA Tour has also been updated under the hood, says EA, to “support a series of challenges which will be released during the tournament taking place at the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links from July 6th through the 9th”.

The main menu also now has dynamic messages, similar to titles like FIFA 23, so the dev-team can update players when new content or patches are released. Update 4.5 includes more than this, also adding quality of life updates and stability fixes, including crashes and softlocks relating to network disconnects. Visual improvements have been made to some hairstyles, and rare occurrences where button spamming after restarting a match would cause the golfer to move to an incorrect position have also been fixed. With PGA Tour Road to the Masters Season 3 Patch Notes 4.0 EA released for the US Open, came the Notchless Swing Meter update. This was one of the biggest modifications made to the gameplay to achieve crisper aesthetics and a more realistic feel.

As it is with any update made to a game, the new Swing Meter takes some getting used to. In this guide, I’ll be taking you through the new Notchless Swing Meter, how to use it to the best of your ability, and if you’re not enjoying the mod at all, show you how to change the settings back to one of the previous options.

Does the Notchless Swing Meter Improve EA Sports PGA Tour?

How to use the new notchless swing meter in ea sports road to the masters.

It’s pretty much the same as the previous Swing Meter, where you just pull back on the analog stick, load until you reach the apex of your swing, and then push forward on the analog to complete the swing. The only difference now is that you’ll need to stop your swing when the trail indicator reaches the end of the Swing Meter before pushing forward on the analog stick. 

There will be no notch to show the exact strength with which you should hit your ball or when you should push forward on the analog stick. If you pull back for too long, the trail indicator turns red, which means you’ll be overswinging on your next hit.

How to Enable & Disable the Notchless Swing Meter in EA Sports PGA Tour

You can enable and disable the Notchless Swing Meter in Road to the Masters both in-game and via the main menu Settings, with the latter being a permanent change and the former being temporary. With the in-game changes, once you’ve finished golfing, the settings will revert to the previous settings, and you’ll have to change them again in the main menu. 

The procedure to change the settings in-game or on the main menu is carried out in the same way. First, you need to open Settings by pressing R1 or L1 until your selector lands on Settings. The next list of options will open. Press R2 or L2 and select the Visual option. Scroll down to the fifth option: Swing Meter Style. Once selected, you’ll notice a list of options appear on the bottom right side of the screen. There are four options to choose from. 

Swing Meter Options To Choose From in Road to the Masters:

• Modern – Trail Disabled
• Classic – Trail Disabled

The Modern option refers to the latest Notchless Swing Meter, while the Classic is the old style that came with the game’s initial release. The option to disable the trail will remove the indicator gauge that generates while you’re swinging. Removing the trail gives players even more control over their swing. This Swing Meter Style relies a lot on your experience playing the EA Sports PGA Tour.

There is no visual indication showing if you are overswinging or underhitting the ball. The only way you’ll know if you’ve gone over the limit is if the controller vibrates. Other than that, you need to really watch how your golfer swings and pay close attention to their swing style. It will help players gauge whether they’re taking a full swing or a half swing. Players will also have to wait for the control to vibrate to know if they’re swinging off line. 

For me, the Notchless Swing Meter improves the gameplay experience in PGA Tour. The change has effectively made it harder to judge if you are overswinging or underswinging on your long drives and approach shots, bringing even more realism to the game.

What it does favor more is the short game, between long drives and putting. Chips and pitches are easier to finesse, allowing for a drop closer to the cup.  Because it has made it harder to judge the strength of your swing in PGA Tour, players will again have to practice to get it perfect or to hit the sweet spot consistently. 

The other aspect that has improved is the realism of the swing itself. It just gives a smoother, crisper, more fluent feel when swinging. However, it’s not for everyone and some virtual golfers will want to revert back to the basics.

Best Swing Settings in EA Sports PGA Tour

It’s all about authenticity in EA Sports PGA Tour this year. With authenticity, though, can come an unforgiving outcome. Every shot matters. That means that every condition matters. And as you’re making your way through the PGA Tour, you’ll have to keep your skills sharp in order to challenge for top honors. So, what are you going to do about it? Well, we’re here to break down the best swing settings in EA Sports PGA Tour .

Modifying Swing Settings in EA Sports PGA Tour

Here’s the good news when it comes to swing settings in EA Sports PGA Tour : On consoles, the Swing Stick is the only way to strike the ball. However, that doesn’t mean other swing options aren’t coming. In our hands-off preview earlier this year , the development team hinted at several post-launch content to come. While it wasn’t confirmed then, a three-click swing option was at least discussed. However, there are more things to consider than just the swing style.

Players can choose between the left or right joystick, and for me, it comes down to which hand you use most often. I’m a righty, so I chose the right joystick. I recommend you do the same, and if you’re left-handed, then there’s your answer! That said, utilizing a Power Boost pre-shot involves tapping the left trigger button while swinging. Therefore, it may be easier to just go with the right joystick so you can use your left hand to tap the Power Boost. More than anything, though, this is a matter of preference.

Other options to consider with your swing include the aforementioned Power Boost, plus Spin Control, Swing Meter, Shot Shaping, and Lie Effect. That’s where the difficulty settings come into play.

Difficulty Settings

For starters, I recommend Pro difficulty . It’s the second-lowest setting, but still provides a steady challenge. I’m also all about customizing my options to find the most comfortable fit, and EA’s latest offering is no different. It also helps that most of these options are broken down into just three categories. Those categories are Easy, Normal, and Hard .

Easy is the most forgiving of the settings, but I opt for Normal across the board. If you do think you can handle the hardest setting, then that will require more shot-shaping. Until you become comfortable with the game itself, stick with the easier settings in order to find your footing. EA does have a long history of PGA games, but, this is their first offering since Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, which goes all the way back to 2015.

If On, Shot Shaping requires the player to angle their backswing. If Off, the player can simply move the joystick up and down in one motion in order to swing. Additionally, the Aiming Arc can be a helpful tool for players just starting out. When Short, it will just display your ball flight. If Full, it will show the entire flight until it first connects with the ground. When Off, then you’ll simply have to see where your ball ends up. That’s why I’m sticking with Low-to-Medium difficulty across the board until improving. The game is meant to be very realistic, yes, but it’s also supposed to be fun.

EA Sports PGA Tour Steam Deck Performance Review and Recommended Settings

EA Sports PGA Tour is a good golf game, but does it run well on the Steam Deck with good performance or is it a miss?

EA Sports PGA Tour beats PGA Tour 2K23 in many aspects , but is this a game you can play while on the golf course? Let's see if this game plays well on the Steam Deck, and if it does, what are the recommended settings to use for good performance?

EA Sports PGA Tour Steam Deck Performance: Buggy

At least, based on our experience playing the game on the Steam Deck, EA Sports PGA Tour runs horribly on the handheld PC. It also makes the fan very noisy. With that said, you can play the game for about thirty minutes to an hour before things get wonky and buggy, at which point the game would sometimes crash or start developing graphical bugs. In our game, sometimes the foliage would go crazy and fill the screen with tearing. The game's horrendous and slow UI is further worsened on the Steam Deck. Sometimes, the game would just refuse to proceed. Worse, EA's launcher would even get in the way sometimes and would just refuse to let you launch the game. However, we've also seen others saying that the game runs better on their Steam Deck than ours. So, mileage might vary.

One thing is for sure, though. Just looking through the Steam Store Page for the game will clue you in on the game's messy state on PC. If you've read our EA Sports PGA Tour Review , you'd know that the game is actually enjoyable, albeit a bit sluggish in many parts. Your best bet would be to leave this game at home and dish it out on consoles instead.

EA Sports PGA Tour Steam Deck Recommended Settings

But if you're still determined to play the game on the Steam Deck so that you can take the game with you around – probably so that you can play golf on your flight or something, here are the settings we've had the best luck on – the build that lowers the risk of bugs and glitches and would let us play for about an hour before all the performance shenanigans actually start happening:

Of course, there are always other things that you can do to improve the performance of your Steam Deck – ranging from hardware modifications to software upgrades. Simply updating your Proton Drivers to the latest version may even do the trick for your system. But as far as our experience is concerned, even with the settings set as they are above, we've got no luck in acing the hole on this one.

From various posters papering the walls to a monolithic mural of the late NFL coach and legendary broadcaster in the central stairwell, Madden is as much a part of the 175,940 square-foot facility that houses EA Sports as it is in the DNA of his namesake video game, Madden NFL .

While most gamers associate Madden NFL with EA Sports after it first debuted in 1996, it’s not the only video game the company produces. Major titles such as NBA Live, EA Sports PGA Tour, Madden NFL Mobile and NBA Live Mobile also are created and produced in Central Florida.

However, one of the most anticipated returns to the market is that of the EA Sports College Football video game franchise. The latest game, College Football 25 , is expected to debut this summer.

The game means so much more for some of the 1,000 personnel at the EA Orlando studios. Many are UCF graduates of the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy . Some people would be surprised by the school’s partnership with the athletic department as a living lab for the game.

Building a relationship

It’s about a 10-minute walk from the EA Sports offices in downtown Orlando to UCF’s Communication and Media building that houses the FIEA program.

There, you can find the next generation of workers in the interactive entertainment industry.

The FIEA was created as a collaboration between EA Sports, UCF and Orlando city leaders. It was spearheaded by then-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who sought to develop a talent base for high-wage jobs in the state.

“When we created the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy in 2004, that was a starting relationship point that has only grown,” said Daryl Holt, senior vice president and group general manager of Tiburon Studios and American Football. “It’s now an incredibly important pipeline for us for talent locally, for EA Orlando studio, and for studios worldwide.”

According to EA Sports, approximately 10% of Tiburon’s game development team graduated from FIEA, and as of 2023 seven interns are UCF students.

“Many FIEA graduates are working on different products and experiences with students worldwide,” Holt said.

Ben Noel has been involved in both parts of the partnership.

Noel worked at Electronic Arts before spearheading the FIEA program as its executive director. He recalls the impetus behind creating the partnership between the two entities.

“Hiring people was always the biggest problem back then,” he said. “Money was not an issue, but it’s not easy to just hire 1,000 people. Governor Bush said to hire people, and we said, ‘We’ve run out of people [with specialty degrees].’

“That was the goal: How can we drive industry if we partner with the people and businesses?”

The FIEA program began with just 12 students and has grown into classes of 75 students, each competing in a 16-month master’s degree program. Many of those students work to become artists, producers and programmers.

“They’re putting in the time, the investment in the curriculum and the instructors into the program,” said Holt. “It’s to drive something world class, that those graduates are successful in the industry.”

While many of those graduates have gone on to work at EA Sports, some have helped produce notable games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption and Halo Infinite.

Still, there’s a sense of pride in having something like a popular video game produced in Central Florida.

Noel occasionally teaches at OCPS’ Academic Center for Excellence school and loves to give his students a quick test.

“I would ask, ‘Do you know where Madden Football is built?’ In the first couple of years, they would say, ‘EA Sports,’” said Noel. “I would say, ‘That’s very good. Do you know physically where it’s built?’ They had no idea. I would say, ‘It’s built in Maitland.’

“The last two years, I go and ask the same question, ‘You know where your Madden Football game is built?’ And they will go, ‘Yep, right across the street.’”

If it’s in the game, it’s in the game

College Football 25 is expected to debut this summer.

It was shelved for more than a decade after the company settled a lawsuit by former college football players seeking monetary compensation for their name, image and likeness.

As part of that settlement, EA Sports agreed not to produce the game.

The recent change to the NIL landscape, however, has allowed the company to take a different approach. In February, EA Sports announced it was securing individual contracts with current college football players.

“The interest generated from the players themselves was another point of inspiration for us,” said Holt. “It’s great that they want to be a part of it.”

According to Matt Brown of Extra Points , sources said the company is tentatively targeting May 16 for its first reveal, with a tentative release date of July 19.

EA Sports has always prided itself on the authenticity of its games, so when it was announced that College Football 25 was making a comeback research was needed to keep things realistic.

“We’re going to work extensively with universities around the country to acquire the details and assets that we need to build,” said Holt.

One of those universities was UCF, which became the perfect test lab for the designers.

“That’s part of our partnership, and the mentality [we have] with UCF is to call them and say, ‘Hey, what about this? Or what about the opportunity to do X, Y, or Z?’” Holt said. “It’s always enjoyable to talk to UCF about the if type of possibilities.”

A perfect collaboration came on Nov. 11 when the Knights hosted Oklahoma State at FBC Mortgage Stadium.

“We had the opportunity to test some new camera equipment that we’re working with, some new technology,” said Holt. “We got an incredible amount of data, not only because UCF gave us access to do that but also because of the spectacle of college football and sports.

“We got more information than we thought we would from that one interaction and continued discussing other interactions we can have.”

UCF associate athletics director Jimmy Skiles, who is in charge of brand advancement, witnessed firsthand the collaboration.

“They were using these super high-tech cameras,” said Skiles. “They’re not doing this at every school, but because we’re here local they could come out and use our stadium as a lab to shoot stuff.”

EA Sports got everything from the Knights’ 45-3 win, from the depth of field to the coloring at various times of the day and lighting on uniforms. It also allowed the company to conduct scanning tests on the Bounce House to create an authentic experience.

“While there will be specific assets for every stadium and FBS school in the game, there’s a certain DNA thread of work that we did right at UCF that informed the totality of the production we’re making,” said Holt.

EA Sports has been working with Collegiate Licensing Company and UCF’s licensing group to request music and songs played at games. “Zombie Nation” and “Knights Will Never Die” could be part of that mix, as would any other audio components for first downs, third downs, touchdowns, takeaways and other traditional audio elements.

The company also has been working with schools on preferred uniform and helmet combinations, with each institution providing suggestions. UCF, for instance, has used multiple combinations over the years, but some are must-haves for the school.

Those could include black, white and gold helmets and any combination of jerseys and pants from the past couple of seasons.

The College Football 25 game also will allow players to experience off-the-field issues, including NIL and the transfer portal.

“It’s just another tool for educating people about UCF and the brand,” said Skiles. “To have them local and for UCF to have the relationship they do with EA Sports is another thing that makes this university so unique and such an advantage of being in a city like Orlando.”

Added Holt: “It’s truly one of the best partnerships we have in any sports with a university. It helps that it’s in our backyard in Central Florida, but everything starts with the willingness and desire to do that on both sides. That’s something we’ll continue to do.”

Enable or disable menu narration (text to speech). The default is set to Disabled.

Color Blindness

Adjust the color blindness filter to apply to the game. The options include Disabled, Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia. The default is set to Disabled.

Menu Narration Volume

Adjust the volume of menu narration (if enabled). This option has a value range from 0 to 100. The default is set to 100.

Commentary Volume

Adjust the volume of broadcast commentary during gameplay. This option has a value range from 0 to 100. The default is set to 100.

Adjust the brightness level of the game. This option has a value range from 0 to 100. The default is set to 50.

Adjust the contrast level of the game. This option has a value range of 0 to 100. The default is set to 38.
