Nestled in the tiny farm town of Haliʻimaile in beautiful upcountry Maui, the tour begins in an air-conditioned vehicle that transports you into the pineapple fields. While traveling through, knowledgeable guides explain pineapple planting and harvesting techniques and show how farm workers still cultivate the fruit by hand. Our pineapple was made famous by its extra sweet flavor and can’t be found anywhere else in the world.  Nothing tastes sweeter than a hand-picked, machete-cut pineapple straight from the fields.

Maui Pineapple Tours

Pineapple is a universally recognized symbol of hospitality and Maui is the world's premier pineapple growing region. Maui Gold pineapples are "born and raised" on Maui ... they are extra-sweet and loaded with three times the Vitamin C of traditional pineapples. 

Maui Gold and Haliimaile Pineapple Company offer a pineapple plantation tour that is the only one of its kind in the entire nation. This 1.5 - 2 hour tour is led by pineapple workers whose colorful commentary weaves history, facts and trivia into an authentic pineapple plantation experience.

Not only do you get to see and taste pineapples growing in the fields, you also get to see the inside of the packing facility at Haliimaile! Tour participants check in and park at the Hali'imaile Distilling Company ( 883 Hali'imaile Road, Hali'imaile, HI 96768) just south of the upcountry town of Makawao. The distillery is located directly across the street from the Hali'imaile General Store. From there you will be transported in the Maui Gold tour vehicle to working pineapple fields in central Maui. Your guide will explain the pineapple growing process, and cut pineapples right from the fields for you to taste the varying stages. You'll learn first-hand why field-ripened pineapple are so much better than most of the ones you find at your grocery store back home.

The tour continues with a walk-through look at the unique packing and shipping factory at Haliimaile. All tour participants receive a one free pineapple, all boxed up for you to take home! Additional pineapples and boxes are available for purchase.

The Pineapple Tour is held daily except Sundays at 9:30am, 11:45am, and 1:45pm.

Closed toed shoes are recommended. This tour is not advised for anyone with significant neck or back issues as the tour vehicle drives on unpaved and bumpy agricultural roads. Minimum age for children is 2 years. Participants must sign a waiver of risk prior to participation in these tours.

Cruise Ship Clients

NCL cruise ship passengers in Kahului are able to do the pineapple tour either day in port. Transportation is not included, and is most economically done by renting a car. We can arrange a rental car with shuttle pick-up at the harbor; rates vary throughout the year but start around $40 per day in low season; see our rental car page for more information. Drive time is approx. 20 minutes.

Lahaina cruise ship passengers can do the pineapple tour but a rental car is required. Drive time is about an hour and 10 minutes.

ACTIVITY TIPS

If you've never tasted field ripened pineapple cut open and served fresh while it's still in the field, you've never REALLY tasted pineapple! This experience will make you want to go home and picket the produce department of your local grocery store for having the audacity to sell those flavorless pineapples produced in other parts of the world. Really ... there is no comparison. Maui Gold pineapple is the best, and you are likely to want to take some of these babies home with you. Hint: you can pack up a box and ship it home on the airplane as a piece of checked luggage.

Distillery Tour

After your Pineapple Tour, see how one local company is utilizing Maui Gold Pineapples! Located in the heart of Maui’s pineapple region, Hali’imaile Distilling Company uses local ingredients and a unique distilling process to create their spirits.

Tour includes a 20 to 30 minute tour of the distillery, where you will learn about the local ingredients and custom stills being used to create these spirits. The tour will continue to the tasting room, where you can sample three of the following products:

Pau Maui Vodka Hali’imaile Distilling’s award-winning flagship brand and the only vodka in the world made from Hawaii-grown Maui Gold® pineapples. Note the neutrality of Pau; no pineapple flavor here! Also available in Pau Maui Vodka Infused with Cognac and Pau Maui Oaked Vodka.

Paniolo Blended Whiskey The combination of aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Hali’imaile Distilling’s signature pineapple distillate, this blend gives off Smoky tones of the bourbon and a sweet finish generated from the distillate. Also available in three flavors: Brown Sugar, Coffee, and Chocolate Coconut.

Mahina Rum Produced locally on Maui in Hawaii, you’ll instantly taste the quality and authenticity of this premium rum every single sip. Distilled and carefully blended with raw turbinado sugar, Kona coffee distillate, Madagascar vanilla, cocoa essence, clove, cinnamon and citrus oils it adds a complex layer of flavors that is sure to please even the most discerning palate.

Pineapple. It's still one of the images that come to mind when people think about Hawaii. In the late 1940's, Hawaii was the pineapple capital of the world, producing more than 80 percent of the world's pineapple. At that time, only sugar cane was a larger industry.

Such is not the case today. Today Hawaii's pineapple production makes up less than 2% of the world's crop. The nations of Thailand, the Philippines and Brazil lead the world in pineapple production. The reason is simple. It's cheaper to produce fresh and canned pineapple elsewhere.

Maui Pineapple Tours allows visitors to get up close and personal with Hawaii's favorite fruit. Tour the harvesting pineapple fields, taste the pineapple at various stages and experience the packing facility. There is only one place in the United States where you can take a tour of a working pineapple plantation. That is on Maui in Hali’imaile. The tour takes you to the pineapple fields where you learn all about pineapple planting, harvesting and tasting in addition to plantation and island history. It's educational, eco-friendly, scenic and tasty!

You'll learn first-hand about the unique growing cycles, planting and harvesting techniques of pineapple. You'll walk through rows of fresh pineapple, sampling the fruit and even get to take home your own pineapple as a souvenir.

"Taking approximately 18 months to grow, pineapple is not an easy fruit to produce and many of our guests are surprised to learn that," said tour guide Carlos Sandoval. "We specialize in cultivating an extra-sweet variety, Maui Gold® pineapple, born and raised only on Maui."

Pineapple Farms in Hawaii

When you think about Hawaiian fruit, what comes to mind first? For most of us, it’s the pineapple!

Just like attending a luau, or taking a surf lesson,  touring pineapple farms is a Hawaii bucket list item.

Pineapples are my favorite fruit, and it was so much fun to put together this list of pineapple farm tours in Hawaii. Let’s explore pineapple farms on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai.

Why are there pineapples in Hawaii?

Before we talk about the pineapple farm tours, let’s talk about why Hawaii has pineapples in the first place.

Pineapples are not native to the Hawaiian islands. So, how did they get here?

Legend says that a Spanish shipwreck brought pineapples to Hawaii in the 1500s. However, the earliest records of pineapples being grown in Hawaii did not happen until the late 1700s.

Don Francisco de Paula Marin, a Spanish maritime pilot, became an advisor to Kamehameha the Great.

Marin acquired seeds from the Spanish and English for crops that he thought would do well in Hawaii. Those crops included:

How many of these items are popular Hawaiian foods today? I would say that bringing those seeds to Hawaii worked out well.

Hawaii would be a lot different without Kona coffee farms, and one of Maui’s many nicknames is the Mango Island! 

How long does it take to grow a pineapple?

It sounds made up that it takes 18 months to grow a pineapple, but it’s true! The pineapple plant takes 18-20 months to produce its first fruit. It takes approximately another 13 months for the second fruit. 

Now that you know a bit more about the history of Hawaii pineapples, let’s talk about taking a tour of a pineapple farm.

Dole Plantation 

When you think of pineapple farms in Hawaii, Dole Plantation is the first that comes to mind.

City life might be what you think of when you think of Oahu, but the massive Dole Plantation is only 22 miles from Honolulu. 

Admission to the Dole Plantation is free, but you can take a tour of the Plantation Garden for an additional fee. This fee is $7.25 for adults, $6.50 for children, and children under 4 are free.

Can you buy Dole While at the Dole Plantation?

YES! You can buy Dole Whip at the Dole Plantation. You can also buy whole pineapples and have them shipped home.

Are they the same Dole Pineapples that you could buy in a grocery store at home? Probably. Is it fun, anyway? Yes.

Is the Dole Plantation a must-do? I wouldn’t say it’s a must-do, but if you’re only visiting Oahu and want to tour a pineapple farm, I would definitely check it out.

Maui Pineapple Tour

Located in Hali’imaile, you can take a pineapple farm tour in Maui’s beautiful upcountry. In their own words:

Kauai Sugarloaf Pineapple

Located in beautiful Kilauea on the North Shore, Kauai Sugarloaf Pineapple offers tours once a week on Thursdays at 10 AM. 

Tours last approximately 2 hours and are $85 for adults and $45 for children. Children 4 and under are free. Reservations are required, and you will need to email them to get a reservation.

During the tour, we will walk through some of the fields, learn about the farm, some of the history of pineapple in the islands, and all aspects of growing pineapple.

You’ll receive a Paulie’s Pineapple Phrostie, which is made from 100% pineapples.

Is there a pineapple farm on the Big Island?

Sadly, the pineapple farm tour with Kohala Grown Farms has been closed for quite some time. 

However, The Kohala Grown Market is still open in Hawi, where you can purchase fresh produce.

Even if you can’t take a farm tour, I love the little town of Hawi and would recommend that you visit and check out the Kohala Grown Market.

Since you’ll be close, you should check out Pololu Valley while you’re there.

Our pickup location for the Hyatt Regency is at the valet parking area on Uluniu st.

Is there a fee to reschedule?

The only time there is a fee to reschedule is If you reschedule your tour within 24 hours of tour pickup time. You may be assessed a 30% fee off of the base, non discounted ticket rate. If you cancel anytime within 24 hours of the ORIGINAL tour date, there will be no refund allotted.

My free tours Moscow city starts on Slavonic Square (Kitay-Gorod Metro Station), passes the world-famous St. Basil’s Cathedral, which was built by Ivan the Terrible on the south side of Red Square in the 16th century and where the tsars were once crowned. Then it goes across the Red Square at the Lenin Mausoleum, the luxury department store GUM and with a view of the Kremlin towards the historical museum. Of course, you will also learn more about the stories that once happened behind the thick walls of the Kremlin – from the Tsars and Napoleon to Stalin. Then we continue through the idyllic Alexander Garden.

«First acquaintance with Moscow» – a 2.5-hour city tour in the center of Moscow

This Moscow city tour starts on the Theater Square, past Lubyanka Square and the KGB-building, then through Kitay Gorod district and Varvarka Street, past the world-famous St. Basil’s Cathedral. Then it goes across Zarjadje Park, over Red Square at the Lenin Mausoleum, the GUM-department store and towards the Historical Museum. We walk through the Alexander Garden.

A 3.5-hour car/bus tour of Moscow.

This is the best tour of Moscow city as all the important sights are visited. I am your Moscow city guide who will walk you through the city explaining the charming history of the city. This tour begins with picking you up from the hotel. 3 breaks are offered for photographing.

First, we will visit the most famous riverside streets and bridges in the center of the city with the most beautiful views of the Kremlin and the Moskva River (e.g. the Kremlin embankment and the Great Stone Bridge).

The first photo break is made at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. We then pass by the district with numerous museums, Prechistinka Street and the district with numerous medical areas.

We again stop at the Novodevichy Convent, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the other bank of the Moskva River to click pictures.

Then we visit “Sparrow Hills” where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city of Moscow from the observation deck. Then there are the skyscrapers of Moscow-City, the Kutuzov avenue, the New Arbat, Tverskaya Street, the world-famous Bolshoi Theater, the KGB building and Varvarka Street. Here there are ample spots to click pictures.

We then drive past the Kremlin again and finally reach Red Square. We take a short tour of Red Square and say goodbye in the Alexander Garden.

Metro tour – daily

Palaces for ordinary people – that was what Stalin promised to the people when the construction of the Moscow Metro began between the World Wars. The communist dictator hadn’t promised too much. No other underground system in the world can boast such spectacular architecture – chandeliers, decorations, stucco, paintings on the walls – each station is individually designed. No wonder that Moscow residents love their metro. I will guide you through the bustle of one of the busiest subways in the world and show you the most beautiful stations Moscow city has.

Tour of Communist Moscow – every day

After the Communist October Revolution in 1918, Moscow became the capital of the Soviet Empire and was the center of socialist orbit for more than 70 years. This left its mark on Moscow, even if the USSR disintegrated more than a quarter of a century ago. The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. You will also learn about Stalin’s Great Terror political campaign and the system of the GULAG and how the USSR, the communist Russian republic, became modern Russia.

Alternative Moscow Tour – daily

Explore the unseen Moscow with your Moscow private guide and discover a range of sights during this alternative walking tour.  Away from the main tourist spots (in the central district of Kitay-Gorod), just a short walk from Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral, you suddenly find yourself in one of the trendiest districts of Moscow. This place not only has trendy cafes and green squares, but here you can see the most beautiful spray works (according to Albrecht Dürer), hangout-places of the youth and hipsters, as well as learn what Moscow looked like in the 19th century. Here you will also learn exciting and even bloody stories about famous gangsters, eccentric business people and legends like the wandering preacher Rasputin, who is known in Russia either as the “holy devil” or the mad monk. To learn a little more about Moscow’s culture, this is the tour for you. On my alternative tour, you will get to know Moscow away from the tourist hotspots. This tour is of 2 hours duration and you will experience the following on the tour:

• St. John’s Hill, a quiet oasis right in the center, where time has stopped as it did in pre-Communist times
• Khokhlovka Art Center, where Russian hipsters and street artists hang out
• Samoskvorechye District where you can see beautiful streets and hear stories from old Moscow

Kremlin tour – daily (closed on Thursday)

With its 20 towers and high walls, the Kremlin rises imposingly over Red Square. This world-famous fortress with its area of ​​28 hectares is home to over 800 years of Russian history. Described as the eighth wonder of the world, this historic fortress complex is the principal symbol of Russia that sits on the banks of the Moscow River. Today the Kremlin still harbors numerous secrets and has palaces and cathedrals, surrounded by Kremlin Wall. The current wall was constructed between the 15 th  and 16 th  centuries, but the original wall was made of wood around the year 1147. The Kremlin Wall became an important symbol of Moscow’s importance in the Russian Empire. This top tourist destination attracts millions of people every year and there are various sights to see. With my Kremlin tour, you will see the oldest square in the city in the heart of the Kremlin, the once largest cannon in the world and the scene of numerous dramas – from Ivan the Terrible and Napoleon to Stalin. Moscow pub crawl – Friday / Saturday

Experience the real nightlife of Moscow with my Moscow Pub Crawl and enjoy 4 pubs/bars plus 4 welcome shot drinks. Move from one bar to another and get to know travelers from around the world as well as the locals. Play fun adventure games and contests in addition to getting perks in the bars. Between the bars, move from one place to another on foot. 1.5-hour boat trip on the Moskva River.

Taking a boat tour in Moscow on the Moskva River is a very pleasant experience. It allows you to know the city from a totally different perspective and admire the beautiful bridges. In this 1.5-hour river trip, you will sail past many beautiful sites in Moscow, so you can take the best photos to commemorate this day. The ship makes several stops on the way. The trip starts from the Ustinskiy Bridge near Sarjadje Park and ends at the Kiev train station.

On this Boat Trip, you can see sights such as: the former Imperial Education House, Sarjadje Park, the “flowing”, “floating” bridge, the most beautiful view of the Kremlin, the Great Stone Bridge, the legendary House on the Quay, the Christ the Savior Cathedral , the monument to Peter the Great on the ship, the central sports arena Luzhniki, the Sparrow Hills, 240 meters high Lomonosov University, the numerous architecturally spectacular skyscrapers of Moscow-City, the Novodevichy Convent, the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs etc.

A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.

The tour will begin with your private tour guide Moscow in a Soviet army van accompanied with some tasty snacks and tea for a tasty start. Upon arriving, you will have to put on the army safety clothing and climb the Russian armored vehicles. The tour will take you on the noisy, smoky tank, driving through mud roads. All participants will get the chance to drive the tank which is coordinated by the Russian military.
