Oceania Cruises' 180-Day Cruise Will Visit 34 Countries in 2024

Oceania's world cruise will stop in almost 100 destinations in 180 days.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

After record demand for its 2023 world cruise, Oceania Cruises has unveiled the itinerary for its epic global voyage for 2024. The cruise line's 180-day journey around the world will set sail on January 14, 2024, and visit more than 96 destinations in 34 different countries.

"Incredibly, last year our 2023 world cruise sold out in just one day, so for 2024 we are providing guests more extended voyage options to deeply and meaningfully rediscover the world," Howard Sherman, President and CEO of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure.

Oceania's "Around the World in 180 Days" cruise will depart from Los Angeles and cross more than three oceans and 15 seas as it makes its way around the globe to New York. The journey, on the Oceania Insignia, stops at more than 100 UNESCO World Heritage sites with 24 overnight stays.

Passengers will journey across the Pacific, through French Polynesia and Australia before continuing onto destinations like Japan and Vietnam's Ha Long Bay. The voyage continues along the shores of India and the Arabian Peninsula before sailing across Europe and completing its route across the Atlantic in New York.

The 2024 "Around the World" journey starts at $48,499 per person and includes roundtrip first-class airfare and amenities like prepaid gratuities, laundry, and luggage delivery. During your days at sea, you can keep yourself busy with spa appointments, art workshops, the casino, cabaret, and four open-seating restaurants — not to mention the daily afternoon tea service accompanied by a four-string quartet. There is also a fitness center and sports deck, and of course, a saltwater pool with two hot tubs.

But if half a year at sea seems a bit too long, Oceania has also created four new Grand Voyages , varying in length from 72 to 82 days. "While a globe-circling journey is the pinnacle of life-changing travel experiences, we have specially curated a set of Grand Voyages for seasoned and time-rich travelers to navigate storied seas, straits, and oceans that boldly connect diverse and exotic corners of the globe," Sherman said.

The four journeys include routes from Los Angeles to Sydney, Abu Dhabi to Tokyo, Mumbai to Tokyo, and Papeete to Cape Town. The voyages start at $15,199 per person and prices vary, depending on the destination.

If you need a little more time to decide, Oceania Cruises has also released the itinerary for their 2025 Around-the-World Cruise which will flip the script and travel east to west from New York, passing through Latin America, Southern Africa, India, Asia, and Australia before finishing in San Diego.

Oceania Insignia Embarks on 180-Days ‘Around the World Cruise 2024’

Today, Oceania Cruises’ Insignia embarks on its 2024 Around the World Cruise, setting sail from San Francisco. This ambitious 180-day journey will take guests on a comprehensive global tour.

After departing from California, Insignia heads towards the Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia, and the Samoan Islands, eventually reaching New Zealand and Australia. The ship’s route then encompasses various Asian ports, including Bali, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Yangon. The voyage continues through the Suez Canal to Europe, with stops in India, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Red Sea.

The extensive cruise includes visits to the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, Northern Europe, the Atlantic, and the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. The Insignia is scheduled to conclude its half-year global exploration in New York City on July 12, 2024.

Oceania highlights that this journey features visits to 100 UNESCO World Heritage sites across 96 destinations, with 24 overnight stays. Key cities where the ship will have extended visits include Auckland, Shanghai, Singapore, Phuket, Mumbai, Dubai, Barcelona, Seville, Bordeaux, and Reykjavik.

Priced from $48,499 per person, the 2024 Around the World Cruise quickly sold out within just 30 minutes of going on sale in March 2022, setting a new single-day booking record for Oceania Cruises. Notably, almost half of the bookings for this voyage came from first-time guests new to the brand, while 42 percent of passengers from the 2022 World Cruise rebooked for the 2024 journey.

Furthermore, 18 percent of guests on the 2024 World Cruise have chosen to extend their time onboard to a total of 196 days. The Insignia, originally built for Renaissance Cruises, first entered service in 1999 and accommodates 684 guests at double occupancy.

Insider Today

On January 27, Oceania Cruises opened bookings for its 180-day long cruise set for 2023. The trip then sold out within a day.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have halted cruise sailings in the US , but that's not stopping people from booking future trips, even if the voyages are almost two years out. This includes people who have never sailed with Oceania before: 33% of the bookings were made by new guests instead of experienced Oceania travelers.

"Despite the challenges the world faces today , travelers are clearly bullish on the future and are embracing these new opportunities to travel the world and create lifelong memories," Bob Binder, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement.

The number of new guests on the 180-day cruise and the speed at which it sold out reflects "tremendous pent-up demand," Binder said in a statement on the news release.

Oceania’s Epic 180-Day Cruise Will Take You Around the Entire World

French novelist Jules Verne might have been ambitious by proposing a journey around the world in 80 days, but we’re taking our time and giving ourselves six months to circumnavigate the globe. Or rather, Oceania Cruises is giving folks the opportunity to do so. The company recently announced a 180-day world cruise that will depart from three destinations in 2019—New York on January 11, Miami on January 14, and Los Angeles on January 30—giving you plenty of time to gain your sea legs.

The 684-passenger “Insignia” will navigate more than 45,000 miles across two oceans and 16 seas while visiting 90 destinations in 36 countries (say that five times fast!). During the global odyssey, passengers will makes their way to the beautiful islands of Hawaii and the South Pacific before heading down under for adventures across New Zealand and Australia. Next stops: Asia, the Holy Land, and tried-and-true favorites throughout the Mediterranean; then it’s off to New England, Canada, and Bermuda. Along the route, travelers will also visit dozens of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The epic expedition also features 14 overnight stays in ports including Bali, Hong Kong, Yangon, and Luxor. Exclusive shoreside events continue to help you cross more off your bucket list than most do in a lifetime. In Tokyo, guests can enjoy an authentic tea ceremony and kabuki and ninja performances at the historic Meguro Gajoen hotel. And in Bordeaux, passengers will have the chance to sample vintage wines and fill up on a three-course dinner of farm-to-table Bordelais delicacies at an 18th-century family-owned estate.

On board, there are four gourmet restaurants serving cooked-to-order continental specialties. Plus, experts will deliver lectures on history, art, and music. The majority of the 342 staterooms and suites even have their own private teak veranda, the perfect perch from which to soak up the panoramic views. Oh, and no matter which of the three cities you set sail from, Oceania’s trip of a lifetime also includes a range of top-notch amenities, including free first-class roundtrip airfare.

Now, if you could only convince your boss to give you 180 PTO days.

Reservations open on March 1, 2017.

Insignia Embarks on Oceania Cruises’ 180-Day Around the World Cruise

  • January 14, 2024

Insignia

The Insignia is embarking on Oceania Cruises’ 2024 Around the World Cruise today.

Sailing from San Francisco, the ship is set to offer a 180-day itinerary that circumnavigates the globe.

Upon sailing from California, the Insignia sets course to the Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia and the Samoan Islands before arriving in New Zealand and Down Under.

The itinerary then includes different ports of call in Asia, such as Bali, Tokyo, Kyoto and Yangon. Continuing on its way to the Suez Canal and Europe, the Insignia visits India, the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea.

The worldwide cruise journey continues with ports of call in the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, Northern Europe, the Atlantic and the Eastern Seaboard.

Rounding up the six-month global voyage, the Insignia is set to arrive in New York City on July 12, 2024.

According to Oceania, the complete itinerary features 100 UNESCO World Heritage sites across 96 destinations, with 24 overnight visits.

Among the destinations receiving the ship for extended stays are Auckland, Shanghai, Singapore, Phuket, Mumbai, Dubai, Barcelona, Seville, Bordeaux, and Reykjavik.

With prices starting at $48,499 per person, the 2024 Around the World Cruise sold out in just 30 minutes , leading Oceania Cruises to a new single-day booking record in March 2022.

According to the company, while world cruises typically attract a high amount of repeat guests, the 2024 voyage saw almost half of all bookings come from first-time, new-to-brand guests.

Another 42 percent of the guests that sailed on the 2022 Around the World voyage rebooked for the 2024 voyage, Oceania Cruises said.

Additionally, 18 percent of the 2024 World Cruise guests opted to extend their voyages, to a total of 196 days onboard.

Originally built for Renaissance Cruises, the Insignia first entered service in 1999 and has capacity for 684 guests at double occupancy.

In February 2017, the company announced the addition of 6 more (Insignia) cruises to Cuba from Miami Florida . Itineraries (ranging 6-13 days in length) were scheduled between November 14 and December 21 (2017). Four of those included Havana overnight stays. This includes administration, food staff (preparation and serving), housekeeping staff, also the vessel's provisioning and crewing. Other cruise lines served by Apollo are Thomson UK (Marella Cruises) and RSSC-Regent .

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

oceania insignia 180 day cruise

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
