I've searched and found part of the answer I need. My cruise control works intermitently. The times it doesn't work, I turn the cruise on and the "cruise" light comes on and stays on. Then when I get to the speed I want to set it at and press it down to set the speed, the light will blink 5 times. From searching I found out that there is a diagnostic proceedure for the CC and that the number of blinks (5) is supposed to tell me something. The problem is that I don't have an FSM. I know, I should be banned from the forum until I get one, but until I get one, is there anyone out there that happens to know what the 5 blinks mean? Or the diagnostic proceedure for the CC?

Same problem here If someone does have a factory service manual. can you please list the ISBN number so I may order that book>? What other things could that be though?

It's more complicated than just checking the number of blinks of the Cruise light in the instrument panel. 5 blinks during cruise control driving indicates a malfunction in the "speed sensor or actuator, etc" This indicates that a code (or more than one code) has been stored in the DTC memory. It says to use a SST to read the code given by terminal Tc and E1 of the connector at DLC2. I think it's effectively just a paper clip, but someone else will have to confirm. And there is no DLC2 indicated on my diagrams, but the DLC1 is under the hood near the cruise control actuator. Anyone know about it or exactly what the DTC is, which isn't shown on the diagram with the cruise control info? As for an ISBN, I don't think those are applied to service manuals issued by a company for its own products. There is a Publication #, Toyota RM510U. Err, maybe not a small fee, mine was somewhere north of $100. Best I can do. HTH

I don't know that the blinking means anything when it fails. The FSM procedure is to jumper two pins under the hood and then turn the key on and copy the error code that it blinks out. Then you look it up in the troublshooting guide and diagnose it frm there. I don't have my FSM at work, so I can't post the procedure and codes.

on topic... I had my cruise blinking at one time, only way to fix it was to pull off an exit ramp, cut the truck off, start it back up and it would work. Made two adjustments. One is to make sure the cruise control cable didn't have excess slack. Also, i was having a faulty brake fluid level sensor. So my brake light would come on intermittently and sometimes stay on. So i disconnected that. Since i made those two fixes at the same time, it has never blinked again; and it's been probably 5 years.

jlg32281 said: That might just be the code that lets you know there has been a code stored, but that seems redundant. Click to expand...

I forgot to mention the other way it fails. A few times I will be cruising along with the cruise set and hit a big bump, the cruise then kicks off and the light blinks.

greentruck said: Based on my reading of the FSM, that is exactly what is going on. The dash light's 5 blinks are just to let you know something's throwing a code. My guess is that they assume when you have a cruise problem, you may not see the light immediately or flashing just once, so they plucked 5 blinks out of the air to make sure it gets noticed. Seems like it worked. Click to expand...

jlg32281 said: Redundancy is a flaw. Even if I had an FSM, it would be nice to just look up the number of blinks and be done rather than look up the blinks to know it stored another code, jump the plug, and watch it blink out another code. Click to expand...

just curious if you even checked to see if you have slack in your cruise control cable?

concretejungle said: just curious if you even checked to see if you have slack in your cruise control cable? Click to expand...

Don't give him too hard of a time. I have the FSM and it's not at all clear on what you should be doing. For instance, it doesn't designate where the heck DTC or DLC2 is. My guess is that the DLC1 shown in the diagram is actually DLC2, which is a typo in the text? Next guess is that DTC is the terminal connector that attches to DLC1 (or 2 or whatever.) Hey, I've done more than a little tech writing. Ya think Toyota would hire me to straighten stuff like this out before the FSM for the 2012 Land Cruiser goes to press? And does anyone know if my best guesses are just WAG or OK?

Toyota Hilux:  Brake Lights Not Working Diagnosis

Brake Lights Not Working Toyota Hilux

Brake lights are one of the most critical safety features that your Toyota Hilux has.  They let other drivers know when you are slowing down, and that they need to slow down too.  If your brake lights aren’t working, you’re way more likely to get rear ended than normal.  The good news is that troubleshooting brake lights that aren’t working isn’t too difficult.  The most common cause for this is a bad brake light switch.

You can test whether or not your Hilux’s brake lights are working all by yourself.  Just back up really close to the garage door and push the pedal.  You should be able to see the brake lights illuminating the door.  If even one of them comes on, you know that the brake light fuse isn’t blown.  We’ll go into more depth on that below.

Driving without the brake lights working is just as unsafe as if your Hilux’s brake lights were stuck on .

1. Check the Fuse

If none of the brake lights are working, we are going to follow the circuit from the fuse box back to the brake pedal.  At some point the power is not getting from point A to point B.  We just have to find where that is.

Please note that tail lights can work even if the brake lights are burned out.  It is entirely possible that all the brake lights burned out at the same time.

Toyota Hilux Brake Lights Not Working Fix

The first thing that you should do if all of the brake lights are not working is check the fuse.  It’ll be clearly labeled.  It usually says something along the lines of “stop lamps” or stop.  You can pull it and visually inspect it to make sure that it is not broken.

Even if it looks fine, if you have another fuse of the same amperage, swap it anyway.  What works better is using a simple electrical test light to determine if the circuit works.  Wal-Mart and any parts store will keep them in stock, usually at $10 or less.

Just hook the clip of the light up to a good ground and touch the two metal tabs on top of the fuse.  There is no need to pull the fuse for this.  It should be “hot” on both sides.  If it is not, replace the fuse.  If it blows more than once, it’s likely that your Hilux’s wiring harness has been damaged on the way to the brake lights.  Make sure to put the same size fuse back in

2. Check your Hilux’s Brake Light Switch

Ok, now we’ve confirmed that there is power going to the brake light circuit, it’s time to figure out where in the path from the fuse box to the brake lights the power is lost.  The most common location is the  brake light switch .  The good news is they are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Your Hilux’s brake light switch is under the brake pedal.  It ALWAYS should have power running to it, even if the key is off.  We need definitely need a test light at this point.  The video below shows exactly how to do this.

He has the brake light switch out of the vehicle, which makes it way easier to see.  You do not need to do this.

Basically, there are two wires, one is alway hot.  When you press the brake pedal down, it sends this power to the brake lights.  This is the most likely failure point.

If your vehicle has cruise control, it may appear as though there are two brake switches.  The other one is to tell the cruise control to turn off when you press the brake pedal.  You may need to consult your manual to determine which one is which.  But, as a general rule, the cruise control switch will not have power going to it when the key is off like the brake light switch does.

3. Check for a Bad Ground

If there is a ground wire running to the brake light switch, make sure that it is secured tightly and corrosion free.  If you can’t find the ground wire at all, run a jumper wire to substitute for the ground wire.

Now test the brake light switch.  If it works, fix the ground wire.

4. Other Wiring Issues

If your Hilux’s brake light switch checked out ok, and there are no brake lights illuminating at all, inspect the wiring harness going from the brake switch to the bulbs themselves.  There could be an issue with frayed wiring, wiring that has lost its ground, or a short/open situation.

If you have the “third” or dedicated brake light (the one not in your tail lights), check the harness  after they diverge .  You know that it has power before this point since the third brake light is still getting power.

Look in the trunk (if applicable).  Check any grounds the harness has in there.  Make sure that the harness wasn’t damaged in there.  It’s not uncommon for cargo to do this.

Conclusion:  Toyota Hilux Brake Lights Not Coming On

If your Hilux’s brake lights are not working, it’s most likely going to be caused by a bad brake light switch.  Good luck fixing your vehicle!

N80 Radar Cruise Control issues

I have 2021 N80 SR5 Hilux, when engaging radar cruise control it seems to work fine for a certain time. Sometimes 10mins, 20mins or even an hour then for no apparent reason it disengages and starts beeping and braking and the distance from the vehicle in front on the dash flashes orange/red, even when there is no car in front of me. To get it to work again I need to turn it off and on again to get it to work. This happened when I first got the car with no bull bar or led lightbar installed and has happened after bullbar and lightbar install. I spoke to Toyota at my first service and explained everything and they told me it is due to the lightbar, so I asked them why did it do it before the lightbar and bullbar install. They couldn’t answer that. Hope you guys can help. Cheers Dean

This may not be helpful, but is there anything obstructing the Toyota badge on the front grille? The new Hilux's cant have anything obstructing the badge as it messes with the TSS system. This includes some lightbars/spotlights/UHF aerials etc.

5 Reasons Why Your Cruise Control Stopped Working

Magnus Sellén

  • Updated: March 15, 2023

Cruise Control Not Working

It would be difficult to find a vehicle on the road today without cruise control. This invaluable feature makes driving long distances easier but can also cause trouble when it malfunctions. Understanding the reasons your cruise control stopped working ensures that you can get the problem fixed quickly for a more enjoyable ride.

While this fault can cause issues with the cruise control system itself, there could also be an effect on the acceleration of your vehicle. That’s why you want to have it looked at as soon as you notice a problem. Let’s take a quick look at the reasons your cruise control may have stopped working.

Reasons Why Your Cruise Control Stopped Working

The most common reason a cruise control stops working is due to a blown fuse or a defective brake pedal switch . It can also be caused by issues with the throttle control system or the ABS. In older cruise control systems, it can be caused by a broken vacuum line.

Here is a more detailed list of the possible reasons your cruise control is not working:

1. Blown Fuse

broken fuse

All electrical systems in the vehicle are controlled by fuses. Your cruise control system is attached to a fuse that can blow if there is a short circuit or fault. Without a good fuse, the cruise control system can’t work at all.

Thankfully, it’s not difficult to find and replace a blown fuse. Look in the owner’s manual to find the fuse that corresponds with the cruise control technology.

2. Defective Brake Pedal Switch

push brake pedal

The brake pedal switch is responsible for turning the brake lights on and off based on the pedal position. Cruise control systems are designed to disengage whenever your brake pedal gets pressed.

Because the cruise control is wired into the brake pedal switch, any fault can cause it to stop working. When the brake pedal switch malfunctions, the car believes the brakes are engaged, causing the system to turn off automatically. Not only that, but your car’s brake light might also be stuck on, leaving confused drivers in your wake.

3. Malfunctioning Speed Sensor

abs sensor close

Speed sensors are located on every wheel or differential. The purpose of these sensors is to monitor the speed of the wheels to determine if traction control is needed.

The speed sensors are also part of the cruise control system. When a sensor fails, the cruise control can stop working and the speedometer might act strange as well.

If there is an issue with a speed sensor, it will often show with an ABS warning light or a check engine light on the dashboard.

RELATED: 3 Symptoms of a Bad ABS Wheel Speed Sensor

4. Electrical Issues

cruise control buttons

The cruise control system is electronic, with many components working together to make the system operate. If the cruise control fails to work, you want to check the wiring harness and associated connectors for a fault.

You also need to ensure that the voltage source is supplying enough power to the system. Even the smallest fault can cause defects with the cruise control. In many cases, there can be an issue with the cruise control lever or buttons causing the cruise control to not engage.

If your cruise control buttons are located on the steering wheel it could also be caused by a bad clock spring, which is located behind the steering wheel.

Check the system with an OBD2 scanner to look for any trouble codes related to the cruise control.

5. Damaged Vacuum Actuator, Hoses or Cable (Older cruise control)

If you drive an older vehicle with cruise control, you might have an issue with the vacuum actuator or the cable that connects to the throttle. If there has been damage done to the vacuum hoses or the actuator, the cruise control will stop working altogether.

Additionally, the cable linking the actuator to the throttle must be in good shape. If it has been broken, the cruise control will fail.

What is Cruise Control?

Cruise control is a feature that is used when you are traveling at a consistent speed. Cruise control was first introduced for automobiles in the 1950s. However, it took many years before it became a staple in the modern vehicle.

This electrical system allows you to set a predetermined speed and take your foot off of the gas pedal. If you are on a long drive, there is less fatigue because you don’t have to try to maintain your speed. Cruise control can also benefit fuel economy because the vehicle uses less fuel when traveling steadily.

In newer cars, you might be able to find adaptive cruise control , which is a smart technology. Adaptive cruise control allows you to travel at a predetermined speed, but it also helps to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front of you with the help of sensors. With conventional cruise control, you need to take over when the car in front of you slows down, but that’s not the case with adaptive cruise control.

There are also vehicles nowadays with not only cruise control, but fully self-driving vehicles . We will most likely see much more of this in the future.

Cruise Control Repair Cost

The cost to repair your cruise control system depends on what caused it to fail. If you need to replace a cruise control or brake switch, you might spend between $125 and $350, including parts and labor. However, the cost to change a fuse is only a few dollars and you can perform the replacement yourself in just a matter of seconds.

On the other hand, when something major fails, such as the actuator, you could be looking at a much higher repair bill. In some vehicles, the cost to replace a cruise control actuator can cost more than $700. These costs rise if you drive a luxury vehicle or one that is difficult to get parts for.

It might not seem immediately important for you to fix the broken cruise control, but this defective system can affect other performance aspects. You could start to notice issues with acceleration or have trouble with the speedometer. To play it safe, it’s always best to have the cruise control repaired as soon as you notice a problem.

Is there a fuse for the cruise control?

Yes. If the cruise control is installed from the factory, you should check your car’s owner’s manual for the fuse location. If it’s an aftermarket cruise control, you’ll need to follow the wires to find the fuse.

Does the brake switch affect the cruise control system?

Yes. The brake switch affects the cruise control system. The brake switch sends a signal to the cruise control system to let it know when the brakes are being applied for the engine to know when it should stop accelerating.

Will the cruise control work if the check engine light is on?

The cruise control function will be disabled when the check engine light is on in most car models, even if the cause of the check engine light is not the cruise control itself. This is mainly due to safety reasons.

Can a vacuum leak affect cruise control?

Older vehicles use vacuum to control the throttle for the cruise control, and in this case a vacuum leak can heavily affect the cruise control. However, modern cruise controls are fully electric and in most cases will not be affected by a vacuum leak if the check engine light is not illuminated.

Although many people may think that the cruise control system is unimportant and not worth spending money to repair, the problem can be caused by a faulty part that will affect the engine’s performance or durability. Therefore, it is best not to ignore the problem if your cruise control is not working without first diagnosing the car properly.

If your cruise control still isn’t working after trying all the tips in this article, it’s probably time to take it in for a professional opinion from a mechanic. It may be a more serious problem that requires replacement parts or repairs. In the meantime, drive safe and enjoy the open road!

ABS light was not blinking to get the code.

  • Add to quote

Hi Everyone, I have Toyota camry 1998 XLE and the ABS light is on for a week. I reseted battery and I tried to find the error code as read here: To pull the codes: In the engine compartment locate the diagnostic connector and open the cover, IIRC there is a diagram inside the cover showing the pin locations. 1. Ignition OFF 2. Remove the shorting plug-(according to the picture, it is at the lower right corner of the diagnostic connector) 3. Short with a piece of wire terminals E1 and TC 4. Turn the ignition on and read the codes as represented by the flashing ABS light. (Example: continuouse blinking= no codes. One blink, pause, two blinks,Pause =code 12) 5. Turn ignition off 6. Remove the short from E1-TC and restore the shorting plug. But the ABS light was not blinking at all when I did short plug between E1 and TC. instead it the air bag and cruise control light were blinking. Any help please? Thanks in advance for your time.

the diagnostic connector you want is under hood, right by passenger side strut tower (close to windshield). mine didn't have any short pin in it, so I used a bent paper clip to jumper E1 and Tc terminals (there is a label with descriptions on underside of connector's cap). If ABS still doesn't start producing blinks then the ABS ECU may be bad. there is a few more tests you can do to confirm it bad. Mine was giving codes, but was unable to enter the speed sensor test mode (fried circuit), so I replaced the whole Bosch ABS pump with integrated ECU from ebay with a used unit ($100 shipped, lifetime warranty).

hi! please any one can help me to solve this I have Toyota Noah 1998 ABS, over drive and check engine come out when I do diagnosis by connecting jumper wire on pin 4 and pin 13 ABS,check engine and over driver all flash and when I remove the jumper ABS not flash only check engine and over driver flash.

Cruise Control Not Working? 9 Potential Causes

Cruise control reduces stress and fatigue on long drives, but if the system isn't working properly, it can become dangerous. If your vehicle's cruise control isn't working, one of the following nine issues may be the root cause.

How Cruise Control Works

Cruise control is a system to maintain vehicle speed without direct driver input. When you want to engage cruise control, you first turn the system “On” with a button or switch. However, this alone does not start the cruise control. When you “Set” cruising speed, the cruise control module (CCM) records the current speed, then takes control of the throttle body to maintain vehicle speed. When vehicle speed increases or decreases (due to wind or hills, for example), the CCM decreases or increases throttle body opening accordingly.

By modulating engine speed, the CCM can maintain your desired cruising speed on the highway. You can increase or decrease cruise speed by tapping a button or lever, and you can cancel cruise control by hitting the “Cancel” or “Off” buttons or stepping on the brake.

Throttle body control has changed over the years. Early systems used a vacuum motor and cable, but these eventually changed over to electric motors. Most recently, with the development of drive-by-wire or electronic throttle control systems (ETCS), cruise control is built into the engine control module (ECM), which controls the throttle body electronically.

Basic cruise control systems still require the driver to pay attention to changing road and traffic conditions. Adaptive cruise control systems, sometimes called "smart" cruise, use radar or laser detection to maintain safe distances from vehicles ahead. Some adaptive cruise control systems merely reduce engine speed to maintain distance, but some of the newest adaptive cruise control systems can also engage the brakes to slow or stop the vehicle. Still, even with adaptive cruise control, it's important that drivers never take their eyes off the road.

Why Is My Cruise Control Not Working?

There are a few basic ways that cruise control can fail, depending on how the system is designed. You may not be able to do much about ETCS cruise control systems, but there are a few things you can check:

Brake Light Switch – As cruise control is automatically cancelled by depressing the brake, some vehicles may disengage cruise control if it cannot detect the brake light switch.

Brake Lights – In some systems, cruise control is disabled when a brake light is blown. Aftermarket lighting, such as LED brake light conversion, might trick the CCM into thinking a brake light is blown, as LED bulbs draw less current than incandescent bulbs.

Fuses and Relays – On some vehicles, fuses and relays are used to protect the cruise control actuator circuit . If the fuse is blown or the relay is faulty, the system won’t work.

Spiral Cable – Many vehicles mount the cruise control switch on the steering wheel. A faulty spiral cable may have an open circuit, preventing the switch from contacting the CCM.

Control Switch – If the internal contacts wear out, the cruise control switch may not be able to contact the CCM. This might disable cruise control completely, or it might not react to the cancel or accelerate functions.

Check Engine Light – On some modern vehicles, particularly those equipped with ETCS, cruise control may be disabled if there is an engine or transmission problem .

Vacuum Leak – Some older vehicles used vacuum actuators to control the throttle body during cruise control operation. If there is a leak, such as a cracked hose or tube, the system won’t work. A vacuum leak might cause the engine to idler higher or set a fuel trim code.

Vehicle Speed Sensor – There are usually multiple vehicle speed sensors (VSS) on any given vehicle. The CCM might use a VSS feed from the ECM, instrument cluster, or transmission. If that signal is lost, the CCM can’t detect vehicle speed, disabling cruise control.

Electrical Problems – As most cruise control systems use electrical or electronic components, any diagnosis should include a thorough check of source voltage, wiring harnesses, and connectors. Anything loose or broken could disable the system entirely.

If your cruise control isn’t working properly, avoid using it until it is repaired. A faulty cruise control system may not cancel on demand, which will create a safety hazard for you and those around you. After assessing your cruise control yourself, take your vehicle to a trusted mechanic for a check or a couple diagnosis and repair.

Dashboard Warning Lights Explained

Toyota Hilux Dashboard Warning Lights

Airbag SRS Warning Light If this light remains on while driving or fails to come on at ignition, it means there’s a fault with the Toyota Hilux SRS airbag system. The warning light indicates a malfunction in:

  • The SRS airbag system
  • The seat belt pretensioner system
  • The front passenger occupant classification system

Typical faults are related to a sensor. Have airbag SRS system serviced by a qualified Toyota workshop as soon as possible.

Battery Warning Light If Toyota Hilux battery warning light comes on while driving, it means the engine is running on battery power alone due to the alternator not charging it. High probability of engine stall once battery charge depleted. Due to a malfunction in the vehicle charging system, immediately turn off any vehicle utilities that consume electricity and make your way to the nearest vehicle repair workshop. Check battery wiring / connections, alternator, drive belts and battery for malfunction. See  why is my car battery warning light on  for further information.

Brake System Warning Light This red warning light indicates a fault with the Toyota Hilux brake system. First check that the parking brake has been properly released. Secondly, it may indicate low levels of brake fluid. If the parking brake is properly released and fluid levels are within acceptable limits, it indicates a malfunction with the vehicle braking system. It may also indicate low negative pressure in the vacuum tank on diesel engine versions on Hilux. In this instance, only drive the vehicle a low speeds to a repair workshop if the vehicle has working brakes.

High Coolant Temperature Warning Light / Gauge If the temperature warning light begins flashing or the temperature gauge increases, it means the engine is beginning to overheat. If the warning light goes from flashing to constant, it means the temperature has increased. Stop the vehicle immediately and allow engine to cool. Check coolant levels, cooling fans and belts are at acceptable levels and/or are working. If adding coolant, check for leaks. Do not continue driving if warning light remains on. For further information, see  red engine coolant warning light on or flashing .

Service / Fault Warning Light The spanner / wrench with exclamation mark is a required service fault warning light. It indicates a malfunction in the electronic engine control system, the electronic throttle control system, or the Brake Override System. Have vehicle diagnostics to read fault codes.

Rear Differential Lock Warning Light The rear differential lock system is ideal to help prevent the rear wheels from spinning on a slippery / muddy surface. The Toyota Hilux rear differential lock warning light rapidly flashes to indicate a malfunction in the rear differential lock system.

Oil Pressure Warning Light The Toyota Hilux oil pressure warning light is not generally an indication of low oil level, though low engine oil level can cause the light to illuminate. If the light comes on while driving, immediately stop the vehicle and switch off the engine. Check oil levels. If levels are normal, do not restart the engine and arrange for recovery. Engine lubrication has malfunctioned and severe damage will result in running the engine. If you have added engine oil, only continue driving if the light has gone out. Note: Stopping on a steep slope can cause the oil pressure light to come on.

Engine Malfunction Warning Light The Toyota Hilux engine malfunction warning light (often called the check engine warning light) has many potential faults associated with it. It indicates a malfunction in the emission control system or emission control system or electronic engine control system.

The light may also illuminate on certain versions of the Hilux due to a malfunction in the electronic automatic transmission control system or on diesel versions, where the boost pressure in the turbocharger is abnormally high. On some models, the engine fault light illuminates due to a malfunction in the DPF system. Some of the more frequent faults include broken gas cap, faulty oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor. Due to there being many potential faults, diagnostic equipment is required to read fault codes. For further information on the engine warning light, see  reasons why the engine warning light is on .

ABS Warning Light This fault is usually associated with a faulty ABS wheels speed sensor. The Toyota Hilux ABS warning light indicates a malfunction in:

  • The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • The brake assist system (vehicles with VSC system)

VSC Warning Light The VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) warning light comes onto the Toyota Hilux dashboard when:

  • There a fault with the VSC system. This is often due to a faulty wheel speed sensor. The warning light remains on.
  • Trailer sway control system.
  • The TRC/A-TRC system.
  • The hill-start assist control system.
  • The downhill assist control system.
  • When the system is operating. In this instance, the light flashes.

For further information on VSC / ESC (Electronic Stability Control), see what is ESC in a car .

4WD Fault Warning Light The amber Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive warning light along with a possible audible alarm indicates that the differential oil temperature is too high. If the warning light flashes rapidly and and audible warning sounds, turn the front-wheel drive control switch to H2, and wait until the warning light goes off. If the warning light comes on without the audible alarm, it indicates a malfunction in the four-wheel drive system.

4LO Fault Warning Light The Toyota Hilux 4LO warning light indicates a four wheel drive, low speed position. It’s ideal for maximum power and traction used for climbing or descending hills, off-road etc. If the 4LO warning light flashes rapidly, it indicates a malfunction in the four-wheel drive system. Have the vehicle serviced by a Toyota workshop.

T-BELT Warning Light The Toyota Hilux T-BELT warning light indicates that the timing belt should be replaced.

Brake Override Warning Light This warning light indicates that the accelerator and brake pedal are being depressed simultaneously – release the brake pedal or accelerator. If the warning light flashes, it indicates a malfunction in the Brake Override System.

PCS Warning Light The Toyota Hilux PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) warning light flashes when the system has malfunctioned. When the warning light flashes without an audible alarm it indicates that PCS is temporarily unavailable. This could be due to the area around the radar sensor (located on the front grille) or camera sensor (located in front of the rear view mirror) being dirty, covered in snow, condensation etc. It could also be due to the camera sensor not having optimal operating conditions, for example, the temperature is too high.

LDA Warning Light The Toyota Hilux LDA (Lane Departure Alert) has malfunctioned when this warning light remains lit. Ensure the camera sensor is not obscured by dirt etc.

Oil Level Warning Light The Toyota Hilux low oil level warning light indicates that engine oil level is low or that the vehicle has been stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to a level surface and check to see if the light goes off. If the warning light remains on, check oil level. If oil level is at recommended levels and the light remains on, it’s likely the oil level sensor fault.

Master Warning Light The amber triangle containing an exclamation mark is the the Toyota Hilux master warning light. An audible alarm sounds and the warning light comes on and flashes to indicate that the master warning system has detected a malfunction. If the audible alarm sounds along with the master warning light, it means a serious problem has been detected. The problem is not as serious if the alarm does not sound. For further information about this fault light, see Toyota’s master warning light explained .

Tire Pressure Warning Light The tire pressure warning light comes on when one or more tires is under-inflated. The light will flash for one minute then stay on if the tire pressure system has malfunctioned.

Thanks for your good work and support to us

Hello, i am driving Toyota hilux GD6 2017 model, i went out to do wheel alignment, now i am experiencing VSC warning light in the dashboard, what might be the problem and how can i solve it?

Hello Marope, VSC, Vehicle Stability Control makes use of wheel speed sensors, one located at each wheel. It’s usually one of these that is damaged that causes the problem.

Hi I have the same problem all the sensors are fine what else can be the problem ? Thanks

Hi Uzair, Are you referring to ABS sensors and the VSC light staying on? There are other sensors such as steering angle sensor, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration sensor, along with other components such as the VSC module. Also check brake fluid, how old is it, does it require cleaning. Hydraulic pump problems. The way forward is to have diagnostics and check for fault codes to locate the specific problem.

Hi, I have a 2010 Hilux Vigo 3.0ltr 4×4 and have 3 lights operating, The VSC is flashing, the ABS light is full on and the braking system light is full on, Have you any ideas please as to why they all have come on at the same time.

Hi, I have a 1996 Hilux Diesel Dualcab. I’m currently getting intermittent multiple dash lights illuminating together while driving and then intermittently going out. (ie Fuel Filter, Park brake, Brake, Battery and T-Belt al at same time). Due to its age I’m searching for a short but have not been successful to date. Any thoughts?

Hi friend ,i see your post and i have same proplem now , Could you say me how you fix it

Hi guys I have a Toyota Hilux who T Belt keep on the dash board how can I fix it

Hi Abraham, When was the timing belt last changed? I think it needs changing around every 60,000 miles, or 5 years, whichever comes soonest. If it hasn’t been changed, best do it asap. The light is purely based on mileage, so should be reset after it has been changed.

Hi, I have a Hilux 2016. I suddenly get from time to time the following 3 board yellow lights at the same time and then they disappear: Service / Fault Warning Light Engine Malfunction Warning Light Brake Override Warning Light Could you please advise what could be the problem and how can I fix it? Thank you

Hi Jason, In terms of the brake override problem, a common issue with the Hilux is the brake fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. See if it needs replacing. The service / wrench warning light will be related, so should be sorted when the brake override issue is fixed. Because the brake override system relates to the throttle, it can also cause the engine warning light to come on. Check the fuses. Failing that, there should be fault codes to scan for.

Hi I have a 2010 hilux 4×4 auto suddenly I saw a Rear Differential Lock Warning Light . Wht could be the problem?

Hi guys iam driving toyota hilux legend 45 ..2014 I need help with my lights in dashboard hand brake light…ABS light and slipary light is on I want to help me Thank you Regards Award 082 455 0855

A continuous ABS and ESC / VSC / traction control light is usually a symptom of a wheel speed sensor that has malfunctioned. However, you say your handbrake light is on. Is it the red exclamation or the ‘P’ symbol? If it’s the red exclamation, it’s the brake warning light. Check brake fluid levels, check for fluid leaks and also check brake pads. But if all those check out, the brake warning light is on, means there’s a possible malfunction with the vehicle’s braking system and would require an immediate service. If a fault code has been generated, diagnostic tools can help to locate the fault.

warning sign, circular in shape with several teeths round it, switches off when car is started

Hi Charles, Does the warning light resemble something like this:

If so it’s usually a problem related to the vehicle’s transmission. But you say that the light switches off when the engine is started. If that’s the case, you have nothing to worry about.

Rear diff lock is flashing non stop,it says rear diff lock solenoid circuit low

Good day. My car is a 2004 3Rz with a Diff Lock (It is not a 4WD) It displays a green 4WD fault light. What can possibly be the problem.

Hello I am driving Toyota Hilux Model LN147 Pick up. Light L/O OFF is on what does it mean.

Hello sorry I missprinted the error. Should read ‘O/D OFF’ Light. Toyota Hilux LN 147 model. what is wrong?

O/D stands for overdrive. It’s essentially an ‘ECO’ gear designed for high speed driving on the highway. The gear has little power as it’s designed for cruising and fuel economy. You should have a button, often near the transmission with O/D on it. Pressing it should enable it.

You would switch off the O/D function when you might want a little more pulling power, such as when going over hilly roads, or when going down a hill to take advantage of engine braking.

What is the 2nd plug for on the back of a 2006 hilux fortuner instrument cluster please, have just gotten a 2007 2wd DC instrument cluster to replace my broken one but 07 only has 1 plug instead of 2 which my original one has

Help!! cruise light flashing and throttle not working

  • Add to quote

Hello, I installed 16 inch ape hangers on my 2010 Road King, the wiring went smooth exept for the wiring being a little tight on the throttle side but everything looked fine. I started reassembling everything back together and decided to try the new wiring, everything works, except for the trhottle... and the cruise control light flashes alternating from green to red. I made the mistake of not disconnecting the battery before the changes... Can this be the problem? Is there a way to reset it to discard this before dismounting and rewiring throttle side? I know now as I have been reading posts trying to find the answer to my problem that not disconnecting the battery was a stupid thing... I don´t consider myself to be any kind of expert... will continue to mess up on most new things I try. Hope someone can help.

Me, too. Any suggestions?

I did NOT have this trouble when i did my bar swap. So this is 100% my best guess: This sounds like the TBW got pulled / separated during the install process. The throttle won't work if its not plugged in. And the cruise won't work cause the throttles not working... Remember the rule when putting the wires in the bars: PUSH the wires through and gently guide them with the draw line. NEVER pull on the draw line... This pulls the connectors apart. Speaking as one who has done this bar wiring project. It really is painful to say the wires need to come back out to investigate. Yes i know: 😱😨😳😭🤬🤬🤬

Probably the TBW sensor plug got pulled apart, that little connector is the weak link in the harness.

Cruise control light flashing???

hilux cruise control light flashing

  • Add to quote

Hey guys!! I am a new owner of an Outback 06 and lately, I am having trouble with my cruise control... I had it on when I was driving on a dry road (60mph) and all of a sudden the cruise control stopped working and the cruise light and the check engine came on.... And the cruise light started to flash. It's been doing that since it last occurred... Did it happen to any of you guys?? Is it a sensor or a breaker?? Thanks for the help!!

You need to stop by an autoparts store and borrow their code scanner. The code may be preventing cruise from coming on.

hilux cruise control light flashing

So if there was a misfire and the plugs and wires need to be changed as these were the codes, this would cause the check engine light and cruise to blink. Sorry just bought a Subaru 08 legacy 2.5i and has been sitting for almost 2 yrs

hilux cruise control light flashing

The cruise will blink telling you it's disabled when the car senses a problem. Generally you will have a CEL along with it but, if it's a pending code, I've heard that sometimes only the Cruise will blink. Did you goof around and do burnouts in the dirt ? I know it can happen from excessive spinning of the wheels [the TCU will get confused and set a pending code, also the cruise will blink] Other issues could be, Knock sensor code from some bad gas, "gas cap code" [forget the number] from a loose gas cap and others but, lets start there.

actually i was going in straight line, driving very normal, dry asphalt on a sunny day.... But it stopped blinking yesterday night... Its the second time it does that and i started to think is the cable to the cruise control unit...Gas is fine (87 grade) and the cap was on properly... any other ideas....

You need to get the CEL code read (PXXX) and bring that code back here. The CEL is preventing your Cruise from working and the Cruise light is flashing to tell you it can't work. You may be able to disconnect your positive battery cable for 10 mins and step on the brake pedal for a minute to reset the ECU. That may put the CEL out and allow your cruise to work. If the CEL comes back on after you do that, you will need to get the code read.

Alright, Thanks guys for the help!!! next time it happens i'll try your trick!! But for some reasons it works fine now...

hilux cruise control light flashing

JF, our '05 set-off the CEL and blinking cruise light twice following a loss of power which brought the vehicle down to 10 - 15 kph. Both times it coded a faulty accelerator assembly. This (ghostwalking) car is now on its 3rd accelerator assembly. Hopefully your warning light faults are relatively harmless.

the exact same thing happened to me last night at 2 a.m.. i was driving on the interstate, came upon a horrible storm, then stopped for a while. the rain let up a bit, but the check engine light came on and the cruise flashed. i had to keep on driving to get home, and it's the same this morning. i checked the gas cap and will try the battery disconnect/brake peddle trick. thanks miker104! so, i could take my car to advance auto parts and they scan for free? they do that?

hilux cruise control light flashing

I took delivery of a 2004 3.0 Outback on the 27th May, and the lights came on less than 100 yards from the dealer...they have had the car ever since, finally traced it to a faulty TCU and a whole host of other faults...so they contacted me yesterday, they are cancelling the deal and giving me an 06 2.5 OB A/T at cost price...still with maintenance contract...only 46000 km on the clock, so it looks as if I got a sweet deal! ;D @marcc - Don't you have a dealer you can take it to? They usually check and re-set the thing in about 10 minutes...99% of the time it is your cat that is at fault.

You got a great deal! The 3.0 is not as good as the 2.5 in my opinion. The dealers usually charge for reading codes, unless you tell them to also make the repairs. I prefer to knowing what the code is before entering a dealership, just in case I can do the repair myself.

Most autoparts store will either lend you the use of a scanner to use in the parking lot. Pepboys and Autozone will have a store clerk read the codes for you, but they will not clear any. Yes, CEL = check engine light.

@paulO, i bought it form a dealer, but it's an '05, so out of warranty. "You may be able to disconnect your positive battery cable for 10 mins and step on the brake pedal for a minute to reset the ECU. i've disconnected the + cable, do i press the brake during or after the cable is off? or does it matter? side note: just before the rainstorm, i noticed the parking lights didn't come on nor the fog lights. is this related? last week, i had to replace the low beam bulb (i did both even tho one was out). did mess something up doing that?

Marc, Pushing on the brake pedal with the battery disconnected ensures a complete ground to the electronics. But, now you don't know what code was stored and what the error might have been. Plus, you ruined the computer's drive cycle and if you are in a state that checks your car for emmision controls, it will fail the check until the drive cycle is complete. As for the lights, you probably did not home the plugs enough.

i pressed the brake after re-connecting the battery. the engine turned over for a few seconds and started up. no check light or flashing cruise light! klausc, good point on not knowing the code. i live in south carolina, and they don't check for emissions here (we do lots of other crazy stuff, however) my fog lights now work, don't know why. (it was operator error on the parking lights i think: last night i flipped the switch on the steering column, but didn't move the light switch on the stalk to the correct setting). thanks for everyone's help.

Thanks klausc - the 3.0 litre was certainly very impressive to drive, but I am already totally sold on the 2.5 so will not miss all that extra power at all, plus there's the added bonus of much better fuel consumption!

reviving the thread... I'd like to report that I had my Cruise control light blinking (but NOT the CEL) while going off road on a very messy snowy road (12 inch deep). I was in second gear and pushing a bit to keep my momentum. RPM was around 3000-5000 and turbo spooling. Everything was running fine though. My guess is AWD or CC started to get confused with all the wheels spinning in an unusual way. What do you guys think?

interesting..I forgot to mention that after that, I turned off the car, went on our planned hike in the deep snow with my wife, came back, turned on the car and all was well. Nothing flashing, nothing weird. First time ever this happened but I have to say I was gunning it through the snow packed road to keep my momentum (gunning but overall speed limit was just maybe 20 mph cause it was REAL bumpy and only drove like that for like 30 seconds). So I know for sure it was spinning like crazy. But again, NO CEL light.

hilux cruise control light flashing

Guys, I wonder what would cause the blinking cruise control light to go off and on and also CEL turn on. This morning driving home I was using the cruise control going on the highway at the speed limit which is 70. After 10 minutes of driving I noticed the lights blinking. I followed your instructions disconnected the positive cable for 10 minutes and pressed on the brakes for a minute. The blinking lights went away. Curious to know what caused the lights to blink. Totally weird. Thank you NRHTX

If your CEL turned on, then you had a code stored. You should have checked out that code before resetting the ECU. If it pops again, go to Autozone and get them to plug their code reader to your OBD2 port. Record the code and report back.

You guys rock. If it happens again I will go to AutoZone Thank you

You're welcome.

Man as I was backing out of my garage. My car was acting up. I pulled out of the garage and noticed that the engine was not performing normal. I turn around and the car turned off on me. Tomorrow at 0630am a tow truck will pickup my OB and straight to the dealer. I wonder if it has something to do with the catalyc converter. I am so happy I purchased extended warranty.

My check engine light just came on along with a flashing cruise control light, its done this before and both turned off after about a day, so I'm thinking this will just turn off too but I will go to autozone in the morning and have them get the code if its still on by then.

Hi Mark, This happened to me twice. Finally I took it to the dealer and they discovered that 1 of the cat converters was bad. I was so happy that I was still within warranty on my 2008 OB LL Bean Edition. It was my rear converter. The problem went away, its been 2 months

CEL and Cruise Control Flashing Hey everyone. I looked around for any topics about a CEL/Cruise Control Light flashing. It actually happened to me this afternoon. A friend of mine has an OBII scanner and I found out the code it is showing is for "catalytic efficiency below range". Would that have anything to do with why the CC light wod now be flashing? It all started at the same time.

CEL/CC FLASH..... Rough idle? I have also noticed that within the last 2-3 weeks my OB has started to idle very rough when I am stopped at a red light. It only idles rough when I am in drive. If I out it into park it smoothed out and runs fine. I'm assuming that too could be related back to the catalytic converter?

Whenever the check engine light (MIL) is on, the cruise control is automatically disabled. That's why the cruise control light is flashing -- to tell you that it won't work. Find out what the trouble code was rather than the description. It should be in the form of P#### ("P" followed by four numbers). Then do a search here for that code, or post it and others will help with it. If it's a P0420, there's lots of posts -- it's a very common code -- and there's a few good threads about it. For example, see: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums...ce/49537-p0420-diag.html?highlight=P0420+Diag
