Clarkson tells Billboard in an exclusive interview that this show is the ideal way to share new music with her fans.

“I wanted to have this moment with my audience with the new music. My last tour was in 2019 so it’s been years for me [since I’ve been able to] sing more than two minutes on TV,” she says. “It’s nice to be doing a full show. I worked really hard on this record and it took me a while to figure out if I was actually going to put it out. Once I decided, I wanted to sing this live and to feel that energy from the crowd. I didn’t want to do a tour. I have a lot of jobs and also I obviously want to spend some time with my kids this summer so I agreed to do 10 shows.”

Chemistry will be her 10th album and her first (non-holiday) effort since 2017. There was a time when she didn’t know if she would ever release it. Clarkson says the break from music has been good given the unfolding circumstances within her life.

“I had a huge divorce happen and my life changed and I did not expect that. Doing the talk show created space for me as an artist because even with my label, I could say, ‘Well, I’m doing this job.’ They didn’t ask me for anything, they really gave me a lot of space, which was really cool,” she says.

“I wrote most of these songs like three years ago. Now I feel like I can talk about it. And it’s not a fresh wound,” she says. “It’s not just one emotion. It’s an entire relationship. There are definitely songs that are devastating and songs that are very angry. And then there are songs that are super sad, and ones that are more sexy, like that first feeling that you get in a relationship. It covers the whole arc of an entire relationship from beginning to end. I didn’t want it to be just about the devastating part.”

Her candor is one of the things her fans love most about her and the reason why her audience has continued to flourish for more than two decades. For Clarkson, honesty is a non negotiable in the creative process.

“I’m very honest about everything but also I have to navigate that I’m a mom of two kids that will be affected. That is one reason why I chose certain songs for the record. But also, I didn’t hold back, you know, in the sense of I feel like it’s important because people love connecting with me, because I’m honest, and I share my story,” she says.

While Clarkson is tight-lipped on the details, she promises the show will be different every night.

“We’re calling it an intimate night and I don’t want to give it away. There will be different elements every night and every show is not going to be the same,” she says. “We will have the audience participate and I will talk to the audience because now I’m on a talk show and I’m used to engaging. It’s going to be a different kind of show than what people are used to in Vegas.”

She confirms the presence of a full band and a rock ‘n’ roll vibe overall, but says she won’t be bringing fire or dancers—somewhat of the Vegas norm these days.

The summer dates will also give the single mom a chance to have some fun.

“I wasn’t going to bring it up. But yeah, I’m not dead, I want to have a good time, too,” she says with a laugh. “I chose the time for the shows when my kids are with my ex. I do this when I don’t have them so it makes it easier for me as an artist to really just engage with the audience and only have that on my plate. And then also, it’s nice because, you know, they’re getting one-on-one time with their dad.”

This announcement comes on the heels of the official renaming of the Zappos Theater to Bakkt Theater on March 24. It has been home to residences from John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Shania Twain. Currently, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and The Chicks, scheduled to begin May 3, call the venue home. The theater has undergone extensive renovations to both the front of house and back of house facilities over the last year. Kelly Clarkson is playing Vegas this summer. Here's how to get tickets

Kelly Clarkson is about to take over Sin City.

The pop superstar has announced she will headline a series of shows in Las Vegas this summer entitled "Chemistry: An Intimate Evening with Kelly Clarkson."

“I’m going to be playing an exclusive Las Vegas engagement this July 28 through August 19 at Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood,” Clarkson said on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on March 27 as the audience wildly cheered.

“I am only doing 10 shows. I could only commit to 10 shows. That’s why it’s exclusive. There’s only 10 shows. I ain’t adding more. I’m telling you right now. Mama needs a little bit minute of a break.”

Clarkson typically ends episodes of her show by surprising someone in her audience with $1,000. A few weeks ago, one woman, named Lily, won the cash and said she’d hoped she’d be able to use the money to buy concert tickets to see Clarkson. At the time, the singer hinted Lily might have a chance to do so in the near future.

Sure enough, Clarkson beamed Lily in at the close of the episode to let her know she'd be getting two free tickets to one of the shows, along with a two-night stay at Planet Hollywood and round-trip airfare.

Tickets for the engagement go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster .

Clarkson’s announcement comes on the heels of her other big news. On March 25, she revealed in a video posted to Twitter that she was releasing a new album called “Chemistry," which she had been working on for "close to three years" in the wake of her divorce from Brandon Blackstock in 2020.

“I was trying to find a word that really described the whole thing because I didn’t want everybody to think I was just coming out with some just like, ‘I’m angry. I’m sad,’” she said. 

“This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship,” she continued. “And a whole relationship shouldn’t be just brought down to one thing. So there’s the good, the bad and the ugly kind of thing going on in it.”

She didn’t give a release date for the album — which will be her 10th studio release — although she said music from it will be coming “soon,” while music from it will be coming “even sooner.” 

This will mark Clarkson’s first collection of new music since 2021’s “When Christmas Comes Around...” and her first non-holiday release since “Meaning of Life.”

Clarkson had previously discussed the new album , hinting that it was on horizon.

“I had some time, finally. I’ve never had a summer off since I was, like, 16, and I was like, ‘I need it off,’” she told Variety in September 2022. “I think that created the space for me to really have time to go, ‘What am I comfortable with? What do I want to release?’ So I’m working on my album this week. It’s coming out next year.”

Bob Dylan Stuns Fans With New Set, Surprise Covers on Outlaw Festival Launch

Before Bob Dylan even walked onstage Friday night to kick off the summer Outlaw Music Festival tour at Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta, Georgia, word circulated through the fan community that big changes were afoot in Dylan World. Super fan Ray Padgett was on site with early reports that gospel-era drummer Jim Keltner was taking over from Jerry Pentecost, and pedal steel player Donnie Herron was out after a 19-year stint in the band.

But nobody was prepared for the remarkable show that followed, which was one of the most surreal and unpredictable nights in the 36-year history of the Never Ending Tour. After three years of playing a static set built around his 2020 LP, Rough and Rowdy Ways , and select deep cuts from the past, Dylan presented a completely new show heavy on Fifties covers and his original tunes from the past two decades. The only songs recorded prior to the turn of the millennium were 1990’s “Under the Red Sky” and 1975’s “A Simple Twist of Fate.”

There’s no record of him playing any of them throughout the course of his career. There wasn’t a single selection from Rough and Rowdy Ways , but he did break out four songs (“Early Roman Kings,” “Long and Wasted Years,” “Pay in Blood,” and “Scarlet Town”) from 2012’s Tempest.

When the Outlaw tour heads to the West Coast later in the summer, John Mellencamp and Brittney Spencer are coming onboard, and Plant and Krauss are departing along with Celisse. Dylan and Nelson are on the bill every single night. But in the more immediate future, many questions linger. Will Nelson recover from his mystery ailment in time to join up with the tour next week? Will Dylan stick with this bizarre set every night? Will he throw in more surprises? Might he consider covering a song written after Dwight D. Eisenhower departed the White House? Will venues continue to let fans bring in phones and film/livestream the set? (This was a huge no-no at Dylan shows these past few years.)
