Traveler Reviews

Don’t waste your money. I never received the link for the guide so lodged a refund request. Heard nothing a month later other than the trip advisor app saying it “has been escalated to customer service” whatever than means. Glad it was t expensive.. Seems like a scam.

Bought the tickets but got no instruction on how to access.. wasted my money for nothing. Tried contacting, but no valuable help came. Could not take the tour.

We have taken many tours in many cities all over the world; and this was by far the Worse! Tour guide said very little. We asked many questions and he didn’t know much of anything. This was an architecture tour... not one word of architecture was spoken... unless you count ‘old building’ as architecture terminology. Total waste of time and money. We’d give it 0 Stars if that was an option.

The Viator description says "Meet your guide in the morning and climb aboard your private air-conditioned vehicle for your tour through Chennai", and "... hear informative commentary about ...". But the day before the tour (when it was too late to cancel and re-arrange) we heard that there is no guide. When I complained to the tour company they said the Inclusions section did not list a guide (but then nor did the Exclusions section) and the description is provided by Viator, not the tour company. I would have thought that an honest company would have got Viator to sort this out.

So what do you get? You get a driver and car for the day, a suggested itinerary (which you can change) , and a PDF document with a paragraph on each site.No entry fees or lunch is included. The driver was fine, looked after us well, and helped where he could. Our only gripe is that we had to say about 6 times that we did not want to go to his friend's sari shop.

This tour is not what we expected or wanted (and we cancelled another trip with this company as a result). But it may be fine for you.

I would add that this is NOT a rip-off. It is a lot cheaper than the other full-service tours that we took, so you get what you pay for. But it is unaccceptable for the tour operator to let the incorrect description remain.

Our driver was flexible and shared historical insights. He even persuaded one of the on duty policemen at the Court to show us around the grounds of the courthouses. Got a good appreciation of many of the historical buildings which are in urgent need of repair. Do not think there have been any repairs since the Brits left. Had not appreciated that the main beach is the second longest after Miami. It is incredibly wide as well as long and surprisingly clean. Cricket stadium where the Chennai Superkings play stands out in an area where people live on the streets and the rubbish problem is immense. An interesting morning and it gave us a good feel for Chennai - old and new.

I Visited several places Kapaleeswarar Temples, SanThome Cathedral, Marina beach, University of Madras and Goverment musuem. And saw St. Goerge Fort, Goerge Town, railway station, various historical via the car. During this tour, I could experience way of praying at Hindu (though I can not enter the inner temple because I am not Hindu.) Driver provides recent history of this city (about flooding 4 years ago), lunch with using right hand only. He flexibly stopped the car to take photos so I could take cow's walking. Very nice tour and happy to select this.

It contains immense material gathered personally through the rough and tumble of travel, of almost 25,000 km from Vizhinnam in southern Kerala to Bangladesh border, to almost all the battlefields of the Cholas outside of Tamilnadu. It is a story of their victories starting from Rajarajan (985 CE) to Rajendran and to his 3 sons who built the Empire and put the Cholas in an unassailable position.

This book is a unique record of a piece of history not very well known or written about. This is no book to sit on the shelf. This is a must-read research work that will fill every heart that beats for the Cholas with a thrill of walking the warpath along with the Cholas and the author. The book is marketed by Heritage Inspired, a history and heritage interests company.

The Deccan tour starts with your arrival at the Mumbai International Airport. Here you will be met by a tour representative who'll assist you in smooth transfer to the hotel for overnight stay. The 'City Of Dreams' overlooking the vast Arabian Sea was given to Charles II of England on account of his marriage to the Portuguese princess Catherine. It also goes by the title 'Financial Capital of India'.

The Heritage tour of South India starts with tour arrival in Chennai, capital city of Tamil Nadu. Our tour representative will welcome you to this gem of South India, popular for its history and culture. Check-in to a hotel, after which you go for half day tour of the city and visit important cultural centers and monuments of the city.

After a hearty breakfast, proceed to Mahabalipuram for a sightseeing tour. The city located on the Coromandel Coast, 58 kilometers from Chennai is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its stone carvings, the thriving port city was built under the Pallava Empire. There are many rock-cut monuments dating from 7th – 9th century AD. The tourist attractions include the Shore Temples, Arjuna's Penance, Krishnamandapam, Mandapams, and Rathas. The other places you must visit are Crocodile Farm, Covelong beach, and Thirukkazhukundram.

Start the day with a hearty breakfast. Later check-out of the hotel and travel to Pondicherry. Known as 'The French Riviera of the East', the Union Territory was a French colony until it was integrated into India. Though time has passed, the town still remarkably preserves its French heritage. The colonial monuments, cuisine, language, customs and traditions are kept intact, presenting interesting heritage tours. The places of tourist interest to check-out include the Sree Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, The French Institute and the Raj Nivas.

Overnight stay in a heritage hotel in Pondicherry.

Today morning after you are done with breakfast, leave for the temple town of Thanjavur. The town is an epitome of the most remarkable civilization of Dravidian history. Forged during the Great Chola Empire, there are a number of aesthetic style architecture of the time. On arrival, check-in the hotel. Later in the afternoon visit the famous monuments in the historic town including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Brihadeeshwarar Temple built in the 10th century.

Today after a quick start with breakfast, leave for Karaikudi. A cultural pot in South India, the town has a unique way of life. Check-in to a heritage hotel on arrival in the town. The Chettinad mansions are palatial buildings in the town, where you can enjoy a palatial stay and have a personal experience of the culture's local flavor. Later, get ready for a sightseeing tour of Chettinad town. The town of the Chettiar community is prosperous with centuries old culture. On your sightseeing tour, see how artisans make woven saris, handmade tiles, gold jewellery, etc. Also go on a bullock-cart ride on a morning excursion to the village, which is a fun filled experience.

Today post breakfast, check-out of the hotel and proceed to Madurai. On arrival, check in at a heritage hotel. Later, proceed for sightseeing tour to Madurai. Settled on the banks of River Vaigai, the temple town of Madurai is one of the most ancient cities in India. With a history dating back to the almost 2000 years back, Madurai was the seat of Tamil learning and the last of the Tamil Sangams (Academies).

The places of tourist interest to visit in Madurai include the magnificent Meenakshi Temple, Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal, Gandhi Museum, Vaigai Dam, Thirupparankundrum, Athisayam Water Theme Park, Azhagar Koil and the Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam.

Today, the Heritage tour of South India comes to an end. After breakfast, you will be assisted with drop at Madurai airport to board flight to Chennai.

In addition, there are some excellent hotels and restaurants in the area, as well as several other attractions, including the volcanic gorges at Raneh Falls 20km outside of town and the eye-popping museum of Tribal Art that is in town (with its Mock village of colorful houses and psychedelic art that rivals anything in Africa or Mexico). The First Look: Valero Texas Open

The First Look

Change Text Size

It’s the final week before the season’s first major, with four of the world’s top-10 players heading to TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open.

The Aon Swing 5 for the RBC Heritage will also be finalized this week. With less than 10 FedExCup points separating Nos. 5 to 7 in the Aon Swing 5 standings heading into this week, it’s set to be a dramatic finish at TPC San Antonio.

The winner – if not already qualified – also earns the final invite to the Masters, something that’s happened in two of the last four Valero Texas Opens.

Here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR’s Texas two-step continues in San Antonio.

FIELD NOTES: Rory McIlroy returns to make his third start of this event’s TPC San Antonio era; he finished runner-up in 2013 and missed the cut in 2022. Since McIlroy’s last Valero start, he has won six times worldwide … Corey Conners will look to become the first back-to-back winner at the Valero Texas Open since Zach Johnson in 2008-09. He is also looking to join Justin Leonard and Arnold Palmer as the event’s only three-time winners … Jordan Spieth , the 2021 winner, returns to action. He looks to right the ship leading into the Masters after missing his last two cuts on TOUR … Collin Morikawa is making his tournament debut. It’s been an up-and-down 2024 campaign for Morikawa so far, with just one top-10 finish in six starts … Max Homa is set to tee it up in San Antonio for the first time since 2019 … Ludvig Åberg will play the Valero Texas Open for the first time as a pro after missing the cut in 2022. Åberg has gone 7-for-7 in cuts made this season and has three top-10s, including an eighth-place finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, his last TOUR start. Åberg is set to make his major championship debut next week at the Masters … Reigning Open champion Brian Harman returns to TPC San Antonio for the first time since 2019. His best finish to date is a T16 in 2014 … Upwards of 25 players in the field are also headed to the Masters. This marks the final opportunity for Masters qualification; if the winner this week is not already in the field, they’ll punch the final ticket to Augusta National.

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Joe Sullivan, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, won the inaugural Valero Texas Collegiate last September to earn a spot in this week’s Valero Texas Open – prevailing in a three-man playoff. Sullivan, who is from England, spent his first three collegiate seasons at Jacksonville University. He led the team in scoring average in 2022-23 … Ryan Palmer has played every Valero Texas Open hosted by TPC San Antonio and is back in action this week. He notched three straight top-six finishes from 2015-17 at this event … Padraig Harrington will play his second straight PGA TOUR event after winning the Hoag Classic Newport Beach on PGA TOUR Champions two weeks ago. Harrington finished T10 at the Valero Texas Open last year. It was his first top-10 on TOUR since the 2021 PGA Championship when he finished T4 … Other sponsor invites were awarded to 2017 winner Kevin Chappell , 2015 winner Jimmy Walker and European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.

SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: Stephan Jaeger’s win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open saw him move to No. 3 in the Aon Next 10 standings; however, he’ll be exempt for the remaining Signature Events in 2024 regardless of his position in the Aon Next 10 by virtue of his victory at Memorial Park … Thomas Detry , after finishing T2 in Houston, jumped inside the Aon Next 10 standings from No. 13 to No. 9 … The next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the RBC Heritage. The Aon Swing 5 standings for that event started with the Puerto Rico Open and have continued through the Valspar Championship and Texas Children’s Houston Open; this week’s Valero Texas Open marks the final event to try to qualify … Alejandro Tosti (T2 in Houston) and Billy Horschel (T7 in Houston) both moved inside the Aon Swing 5 and are both teeing it up this week at TPC San Antonio … The Aon Next 10 for the RBC Heritage will be finalized after the Masters.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: With his win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, Stephan Jaeger jumped to No. 10 in the standings, a move up 37 spots … Scottie Scheffler kept a stranglehold on the No. 1 spot of the FedExCup standings after his tie for second in Houston … Nick Taylor was bumped by Jaeger from No. 10 to No. 11 … The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 remained unchanged with Byeong Hun An and Chris Kirk remaining as the only players to be inside the TOUR TOP 10 for every week so far this season.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 500 FedExCup points.

COURSE: TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course), 7,438 yards, par 72. Opened in January 2010, the layout features just 100 feet of elevation and boasts a traditional design that balances wider fairways with narrower tree-lined fairways for strategic options to the greens. The downhill holes often play into the prevailing wind while uphill holes play downwind. This is the 15th time the design will play host to the Valero Texas Open.

72-HOLE RECORD:

  • 254: Tommy Armour III (2003 at La Cantera)
  • TPC San Antonio record: 268, Corey Conners (2019)

18-HOLE RECORD:

  • 60: Bart Bryant (Round 3, 2004 at La Cantera), Zach Johnson (Round 3, 2009 at La Cantera)
  • TPC San Antonio record: 62, Trey Mullinax (Round 3, 2018)

LAST TIME: Corey Conners won the Valero Texas Open for the second time in his career, closing with a 4-under 68. Conners was a shot back of Patrick Rodgers through 54 holes, but the Canadian built up a three-shot advantage through 15 holes Sunday. Rookie Sam Stevens eagled the par-5 17th but missed a 9-foot birdie try on the 72nd hole that would have tied it. Conners, who had the first-round lead after a 64, tapped in for par on 18 to win by one. Sam Ryder and Matt Kuchar finished a shot back of Stevens, at 13 under, and tied for third. Rodgers shot a 1-over 73 in the final round and ended up fifth.
