Chicago – One musical with everything. Set during the roaring 20s, jazz era, this tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. A show stopper Broadway landmark. Back to the Future – Great Scott! Marty Mcfly has found himself transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by eccentric scientist Doc Brown, and has accidentally changed the course of history. Now he’s in a race against time to fix the present, escape the past and send himself back to the future. Based on the hit 1980s film, this musical features original new songs and hits from the film.Hadestown – Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone – as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Hotel-Sheraton New York Times Square

Get to know the artsy culture and eclectic architecture that has defined the neighborhood. Encounter specialty shops, hidden gardens and the narrowest house in NYC along the way. Then sit down for a traditional Italian “family style” dinner at a local restaurant. Sample an array of tasty appetizers and hearty main courses. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a world-famous Rocco’s cannoli before returning to the subway for your ride back to Midtown.

Travel Director

Embark on an orientation tour of the City that Never Sleeps

There’s no better way to dive into the energy of the Big Apple than with your Travel Director leading the way to all the best places in New York. From the glittering uptown penthouses to the charming downtown streets, and from the neon-lit skyscrapers to the lush oasis of Central Park, it’s all about the iconic and the unexpected on our New York tours.

View the towering Art Deco façades of the Empire State Building

You can’t go to New York without setting eyes on the Empire State Building, an icon of the city skyline and a symbol of innovation and triumph - everything that makes New York so unique. A masterpiece of modern engineering, this Art Deco skyscraper is a staggering 102 storeys high, and you can head to the observation decks for panoramic views over the city.

See the pulsating Times Square

You’ve seen it in countless shows and movies, and now you’ll walk in the footsteps of some of the world’s most famous stars when we take you to Times Square. It’s a hub of adventure, and you can gaze up at the flashing billboards, marvel at the street entertainers, or simply watch the world rush past in the “Crossroads of the World”.

Go behind the scenes on Broadway

Our New York trips take you to the bright lights of Broadway and beyond, with a very special behind-the-scenes tour of this legendary theater district. You’ll meet a Broadway show performer and find out how the famous shows are created, from the first auditions to the live performance, and all the costumes, choreography and chaos in between.

Ascend to the Top of The Rock for dramatic views of the Manhattan

If you’re looking for stunning views over Manhattan, we’ll take you to the Top of the Rock at the famous Rockefeller Center. First, you’ll feel the thrill of gliding 70 floors into the sky as you ride the elevator to the open-air observation deck. Then, you’ll step out into 360-degree views of the world’s most iconic skyline. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Our top 5 things to do in New York

The Big Apple is an adventurer’s playground, and we’ll show you all the very best things to do in New York, from the Empire State Building to the beautiful Strawberry Fields.

American Museum of Natural History

As one of the largest natural history museums in the world, you’ll be amazed by this institution, complete with a planetarium, library and over 34 million specimens from fossils and meteorites to cultural artifacts. Learn about volcanoes in 3D film, marvel at a T-Rex skeleton, discover Native American culture, or even travel to the universe beyond Earth.

Guggenheim Museum

Housed in a UNESCO-listed modernist masterpiece by revered architect Frank Lloyd Wright, you’ll be impressed before you even enter the museum. The spiral ramp and domed skylight make the perfect introduction to the superb collection of modern and contemporary art, including works by Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Vasily Kandinsky and Jeff Koons.

9/11 Memorial & Museum

You’ll have the chance to learn about the tragic history of the 9/11 attacks and World Trade Center bombing at the site where the Twin Towers once stood. We’ll take you around this moving memorial to learn the story of the attacks and the aftermath, and pay tribute to the resilience and strength of the people of New York City.

Best museums in New York

The city’s museums are some of the most incredible places to visit in New York, and we’ll go from iconic art collections and ancient artifacts to moving memorials.

Manhattan clam chowder

Love seafood and soup? You’ll adore this unique clam chowder. It’s famously made with tomatoes and no cream, along with clams, bacon, broth, garlic, red pepper flakes and other vegetables. Created back in the late 19th century in Rhode Island by Portuguese immigrants, it’s still a beloved dish today and you’ve got to give it a try in New York.

New York-style bagel

Soft and chewy in the middle, yet glossy and crunchy at the crust, the New York bagel is one of the city’s greatest masterpieces. It originated from the Jewish community of New York City, and we’ll take you to a 100-year-old Jewish deli in the Upper West Side to taste some of the very best bagels in the city. Don’t forget the cream cheese!

Pastrami sandwich

Famed as New York’s signature sandwich, the classic combo of smoky pink sliced pastrami on rye bread with spicy brown mustard is an unmissable foodie experience in the Big Apple. This delicious invention originated from New York's first Jewish kosher delis in the early 20th century, and we’ll show you all the best places to try this iconic sandwich.

Best food in New York

When you travel New York with Trafalgar, we’ll show you all the best places to taste the city’s most famous eats, including those irresistible New York bagels.

It’s not all about the food either: Your guide will explain how immigrants shaped both this neighborhood and its cuisine as you walk.

Roosevelt Island Tour

10.  Roosevelt Island Tour

Few visitors know anything about Roosevelt Island, a secluded residential community that feels worlds apart from the rest of the city. Once used for insane asylums and hospitals, Roosevelt Island is now home to a thriving population of about 14,000 residents. But, if you have the stomach for it, revisit the island's troubled past on the 'Island of Lost Souls' tour. Pass eerie sites, like the neo-Gothic ruins of the smallpox hospital, the first pathological and bacteriological research lab, and the NYC Lunatic Asylum which opened in 1841. After you learn about the island’s history, board the aerial tram for a sky-high trip over the East River into Manhattan.

Best of Brooklyn Half-Day Food and Culture Tour

11.  Best of Brooklyn Half-Day Food and Culture Tour

Despite Manhattan's abundance of white-clothed, Michelin-starred dining rooms, some are now touting Brooklyn as the epicenter of food culture in NYC. Either way, it's impossible to deny that Brooklyn's dining scene is incredible, from pierogis in Greenpoint's Polish stronghold to tacos and pupusas in Sunset Park and trendy farm-to-table newcomers in Williamsburg. To provide a thorough understanding of the borough's eats, this half-day tour will take you through all those neighborhoods, as well as Dumbo, the waterfront neighborhood where you'll enjoy sweets from the renowned Jacques Torres chocolate factory.

Sex and the City Hotspots Tour

High Line and Chelsea Walking Tour

What started life as an unremarkable elevated railway is now famous across the world and one of New York's most photogenic landmarks. The High Line is a public park, rotating art gallery and perennial tourist attraction stretched, as the name suggests, high over the bustling city streets below. Take a two-hour walking tour hosted by New York Tour 1 to explore the full span of this green oasis and take in the architecture and unique history of Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. Make sure you save some time to shop in Chelsea Market afterward and don't forget to snap a pic of the lush greenery.

Lower East Side Food and Culture Tour

15.  Lower East Side Food and Culture Tour

This is one for the foodies. The Lower East Side’s culinary scene is as vibrant as its culture. It's impossible to separate the two: as different immigrant communities moved in over the decades, each brought the foods of their homelands with them. These days, you can find everything from knishes to stroopwafels to fresh mozzarella within a few blocks. This three-hour walking and eating expedition around the neighborhood lets you t aste all the foods it has to offer – and learn about their origins.

Ghost Tour of Greenwich Village

16.  Ghost Tour of Greenwich Village

You’d never know it from the looks of Washington Square Park, but Greenwich Village has a sinister past. At the northwest corner of the park is the Hangman’s Elm, one of the oldest trees in the city and the site of at least one public execution. Master of horror Edgar Allan Poe once lived in the neighborhood and rumor has it that artist John La Farge still haunts the nearby Church of the Ascension. Delve into the neighborhood’s gruesome past on this two-hour ghost tour, and discover all of its haunting secrets. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes!

The Sopranos Sites Tour

17.  The Sopranos Sites Tour

After you board the bus in Midtown, you’ll go through the Lincoln Tunnel – the site of the show’s unforgettable opening sequence – on your way to the New Jersey suburbs. There, you’ll check out the Bada Bing! strip club, Big Pussy’s auto body shop, and the restaurant featured in the final scene of the series.

Alternative New York Street Art Tour

18.  Alternative New York Street Art Tour

There's much more to art in New York than just the paintings, photography, and sculptures exhibited in its many prestigious museums. Graffiti started life in the Big Apple and NYC remains at the very forefront of the street art world to this day. Discover some of the city's very best outdoor artworks and murals on an Inside Out Tour of either the Lower East Side or Bushwick and Williamsburg. You won’t find these artists hanging in any gallery. Yet.

New York City Lights Sail

New York Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Vibrant New York is a destination city for dreamers. The city is home to history that goes back to before the American Revolution, and has traditionally been the first step onto US soil for decades of immigrants. It's a place for great art, theater, and entrepreneurship. Many tours that begin here may explore the wider northeastern United States, which shares a reflection of America's earliest history.

26 Group Activities in New York City

New York City is full of great things to do. Many of these can be experienced as a group. Check out the guide below for more info!

group travel new york

We have probably all been there at some point. We find out that we are going to a city that is high on our travel wishlist. Unfortunately, it’s for work or an event rather than for vacation. Even worse, we find out that most of our time is going to be spent in a nondescript hotel conference room that could be anywhere in the world. Sounds kind of depressing doesn’t it? Luckily, it doesn’t have to be!

New York City has a slew of great group and team-building activities that can be done outdoors or at some of the city’s biggest attractions. Our team of in-house travel experts has gathered up a long list of ideas that you can do whether you are visiting New York as a small group or a large one!

Dig into the Big Apple with Let’s Roam .

As one of America’s oldest and most dynamic cities, the Big Apple takes many lifetimes to really get to know properly. Let us help you speed up the learning process and become a New York expert! At Let’s Roam, we’ve created a library of great resources for exploring NYC including travel guides, must-see lists, and a ton of fun-filled scavenger hunts. Find out all the ways you can make your trip to the Big Apple extra special by clicking the link below!

Awesome NYC Group Activities

Below you’ll find a list of some of the best group activities in NYC. From searching for ghosts in Greenwich Village to learning how to cook from the masters themselves, there truly is an N-Y-C of group activities to do here!

Important Things to Know

Before we get into all of the fun group activities that you can do in NYC, there are a few things that you should know about the Big Apple. First, New York City is actually comprised of five different boroughs including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island.

Money Saving Tip: Many parts of New Jersey are also lumped into the New York metro area including Jersey City, Hoboken, and West New York. Many people commute back and forth from these areas every morning to work in the city, and there’s frequent public transport linking the eastern section of New Jersey to New York City. Accommodation tends to be quite a bit cheaper in these areas than what you would find in Manhattan or Brooklyn and the quality is usually better so if you are traveling on a budget, this could be a good option for you.

Money Saving Tip #2:   Many New York City museums offer pay-as-you-wish pricing for residents of New York City. This means that anyone who has a valid ID from any of the five boroughs is able to access the museum for free. If you’re exploring New York with a mixed group of residents and visitors from outside of the city, this is something that you should keep in mind.

1. Go on a NYC Scavenger Hunt .

Like most cities, New York City is full of well-known attractions and hidden gems. Our wide range of app-based scavenger hunts can help you take a deeper look at not only Manhattan but also some of the most charming neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. Head over to Let’s Roam for a full list of all the great hunts on offer. These are perfect for team-building events, family reunions, and date nights as they can be customized just for you1

2. Be a real-life Ghost Buster on a ghost hunt .

New York is known as being the city that never sleeps—and neither do its ghosts! Our Greenwich Ghost Hunt will lead you through one of the spookiest areas of the city. During the hunt, you’ll visit the “One If By Land, Two If By Sea” restaurant, the Cherry Lane Theater, and the Jefferson Market Library. These spots are said to be haunted by Vice President Aaron Burr and his ill-fated daughter Theodosia who was lost at sea, as well as theater patrons who aren’t willing to let the afterlife stop them from seeing a good show!

3. Let your hair down during a bar crawl .

New York is famous for its nightlife. While you can easily just meet at your favorite Midtown cocktail bar for some after-work Martinis, why not get the good times flowing with an NYC bar crawl ? This app-based bar crawl is a far cry from the drunken college rampages that you see throughout the country. Instead, it’s designed to get people out of their comfort zones and promote engagement and teamwork.

The Let’s Roam NYC bar crawl will take you to some of the best bars in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. At each stop, players will be tasked with an array of fun tasks and trivia questions in an effort to win the ultimate bar crawl championship.

4. Catch a Broadway show .

From Andrew Lloyd Webber classics to edgy new plays, Broadway is the place to go in NYC for the performing arts. Some of the theaters offer group discounts, especially if you’re booking during the low season when they are struggling to fill seats. While this may not work for shows like Hamilton, it can certainly help you snag seats for some of the up-and-coming shows or ones that have been running for a long time.

Money Saving Tip: If you’re traveling with a small group, you can always try your luck at the TKTS ticket stand in Times Square. Here, you can often get discounted orchestra seats for some of New York’s longest-running shows.

5. Schedule a tour at the Tenement Museum.

The Lower East Side has long been a melting pot of different cultures as immigrants from across Europe and Asia settled here. Tucked into a quiet street, the Tenement Museum is dedicated to the people who lived, loved, and worked in the LES. The museum faithfully recreates apartments of the families that lived in some of NYC’s oldest tenement (aka apartment) buildings and lets you learn more about the residents through artifacts, audio recordings, and more.

The museum is only accessible by guided tour which makes this one of the most private group activities on this list. Group reservations can be made from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. It’s recommended that you make your booking at least two weeks in advance.

6. Treat your group to some of the best pudding on the planet .

Although the Midtown East cafe Magnolia has become famous for its banana cream pudding, many other places in the city offer a far superior product. Luckily, one of these places is just a short walk away from the Tenement Museum which means you can easily combine these two activities together for an extra special treat!

Sugar Sweet Sunshine is the cream of the crop so to speak when it comes to all things pudding related. This tiny cafe has just two tables, but they’re renowned amongst New Yorkers who simply can’t get enough of their oh-so-delicious banana cream pudding and melt-in-your-mouth cupcakes. You can order online for a group event or simply show up and let everyone pick and choose from all the delicious options.

7. Go to the Bronx Zoo .

You can say this is where New York really shows its wild side! Located north of Manhattan in The Bronx, the Bronx Zoo is the biggest zoo in New York City. This sprawling zoological park features more than 10,000 animals including gorillas, red pandas, tigers, elephants, giraffes, sea lions, lions, sloths, and bears. It’s possible to purchase group tickets for the zoo or you can even host catered events amongst the jungle animals.

8. Ride a sightseeing bus.

If it’s your first time visiting New York City, one of the best ways to explore is via one of the iconic sightseeing buses. These buses take visitors up and down most of the major avenues in Manhattan, giving tourists a chance to see the biggest attractions easily. It also gives you an interesting perspective of the city streets as you zoom by on a double-decker bus.  This is a particularly great option if you are visiting with people who have low mobility or you happen to visit NYC when the weather is far from pleasant.

City Sightseeing offers Downtown and Uptown routes as well as package deals that also give you access to some of New York’s top attractions. It could be a good idea to narrow down the places that you want to see before buying tickets to see if the package options can help you save some money. NYC is an expensive city to visit so every little bit of savings helps!

9. Have some fun in Chelsea Piers .

Chelsea Piers is where New Yorkers come to play all year round! This massive sports and entertainment complex is located right along the Hudson River and offers a plethora of different activities. There is a golf driving range, ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, and much more where you can arrange fun team-building activities. The complex also hosts a wide array of team-building and corporate events ranging from happy hours to holiday parties so you can finish off the day with a catered dinner or some relaxing drinks.

10. Fly away in Hudson River Park

One of the most unique of these is definitely trapeze school. Located on Pier 40, Trapeze School New York gives visitors the chance to fly high above the Hudson River while testing out their aerial skills. Classes are held throughout the day and are open to people of all skill levels, even people who have never tried the trapeze before. It’s a unique experience and not one that you can find in many other cities.

11. Go kayaking on the Hudson River .

While the Hudson River may not be as idyllic as some of America’s other rivers, its location right on the western edge of Manhattan makes it a convenient spot to embark on some aquatic adventures!  All along the edge of the river in Hudson River Park, you can find boathouses where they rent out kayaks, sailboats, and stand-up paddle boats. The Downtown Boathouse in Tribeca even offers kayaking programs that provide free access to New York Harbor.

12. Take a walk on the High Line .

When the High Line Park first opened in the mid-2000s, it was the talk of the town. The park was created using a repurposed railway line that used to carry people and goods throughout the Meat Packing District and Chelsea. However, as trains declined, the elevated railway line was left to rot. It was eventually slated for demolition until a group of local residents decide to try to transform it into a public space.

Today, the High Line Park stretches just under one and a half miles starting on Gansevoort St in the Meatpacking District and finishing on 34th Street near Penn Station. It’s lined with gardens, art exhibits, food stalls, and seating areas where old and new friends can meet. Despite being open for more than 15 years, the park is still an extremely popular attraction for both locals and residents alike. It is also a great way to travel from one place to another in western Manhattan!

13. Discover the hidden gems of Central Park

Besides being the green lung of Manhattan, Central Park holds a special place in many people’s hearts. From the rugged rock outcrops peaking through the green grass to the sweeping views of the skyline rising high above the trees, Central Park has unique attractions and hidden gems around every corner.

There is a six-mile road that encircles the park that is perfect for biking or running and you will see many New Yorkers squeezing in some exercise throughout the day.  Another popular activity is to bring a picnic and relax for a while as you watch the world go by.

If you want to turn your visit to Central Park into a fantastic team-building event, make sure to try our “ Central Park Adventure Scavenger Hunt .” During this hunt, you will visit the many sculptures and cultural attractions scattered throughout the park including the Bethesda Fountain, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and the Hans Christian Anderson Statue.

14. Get high in Midtown .

Midtown Manhattan has one of the highest concentrations of old-school skyscrapers in the world. It’s also home to many of New York’s most iconic buildings. The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and Rockefeller Center are all here, creating one of the most magnificent skylines in the world. Many of these legendary buildings boast observation decks where you can get great views of Manhattan, New Jersey, Queens, and Brooklyn.

Some of the most visited observation decks include the Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building, the Edge Observation Deck at Hudson Yards, and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt. While visiting the top of Rockefeller Center and The Empire State Building gives you the opportunity to see inside these amazing art deco buildings, you don’t get to have them in your actual photo.

Meanwhile, the Edge Observation Deck offers a sky deck, the outdoor City Climb and glass-paneled floor and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt near Grand Central Station has some of the best 360-degree views in the city. These two newer observation decks also have the added bonus of allowing you to have both the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center in your photos!

Visiting any of these observation decks is a great group activity, especially for people who are new to the city. It gives you a bird’s eye view of Manhattan which makes it really easy to get a pretty good idea of how the city is laid out. Many of the most popular observation decks often have lines that wrap around the block so it’s a good idea to book your tickets online to avoid the long wait.

15. Sing your heart out in the West Village .

While New York has more than its fair share of karaoke bars, nothing quite compares with a night spent at Marie’s Crisis. As New York as they come, this combination of a dive bar and piano bar is THE place to go if you want to belt out your favorite Broadway show tune.

Marie’s Crisis can get insanely busy late at night so try to come early in the evening if you are traveling with a group of people. This will give you a chance to grab a spot around the piano or over by the bar where you can hang out for the night. If you want to request a song, make sure that you tip the piano player well. You also may not want to request anything too mainstream (looking at you Andrew Lloyd Webber fans).

16. Learn about America’s past at Ellis Island .

Many Americans have at least one, or many, ancestors that passed through Ellis Island while they were emigrating to the United States from Europe. Built in 1892, this immigration center was the first place in America that many immigrants ever saw. Once they arrived, they would be quickly scanned for any major medical issues and then were free to venture off into the city to create a brand new life for themselves. Although it stopped handling most immigration procedures by the mid-1920s, the center didn’t officially close until 1954.

Visiting the National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island gives an inspiring look into what life was like on board the many ships that crossed the Atlantic, bringing more than hopeful 12 million immigrants to the U.S. to start their new life. It also gives insight as to what happened once they arrived here.

Visiting the museum is a great experience for groups of people. As you walk through the Great Hall, baggage room, and restored dormitories, it’s easy to feel a sense of camaraderie, knowing that many of you have a shared history no matter where your family background originated.

17. And climb the Statue of Liberty .

Most tours to Ellis Island also include a stop at the Statue of Liberty, one of America’s most beloved monuments. The idea for building Lady Liberty was originally brought forward in 1865 just when Americans were finishing killing each other on Civil War battlefields and was designed to signify the close relationship between France and the United States. The statue was finally completed in 1886 which means that she was there to greet newly arrived immigrants as they made their way to Ellis Island.

Today, you can climb the 162 steps up to the Statue of Liberty’s Crown and get a close-up view of the torch that she holds high above New York Harbor. On the way up, you can also check out the spectacular amount of engineering that went into erecting the statue.

18. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge .

While New York has a slew of beautiful bridges, the Brooklyn Bridge is by far the most famous one. Stretching across the East River from Chinatown in Lower Manhattan to Brooklyn, this iconic suspension bridge has been connecting the two parts of the city since 1883. Walking across this beautiful bridge is not only a popular tourist activity but also a bit of a rite of passage for recently-arrived New Yorkers.

A walk across the bridge is 1.3 miles each way, so you may want to decide early on if you want to walk across and back or spend some time on both sides of it. The bridge ends near the trendy neighborhood of DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass) which offers great restaurants and cafes as well as a lovely park area.

Make sure you keep your wits about you and keep an eye out for bikers riding in the pedestrian lane. You should also allow plenty of time to look around and take photos of the Manhattan skyline looming behind you as you walk towards Brooklyn or rising up in front of you as you make your way to Manhattan.

19. Go to Governor’s Island.

Located within New York Harbor, Governor’s Island was previously used as a military installation starting during the American Revolutionary War. The site was finally decommissioned in 1996. This 172-acre island has become a major event venue in NYC with a long list of arts and cultural events held there throughout the year.

While you’re there, you can join a walking tour, rent bikes and zoom around the island, or visit a historic fort. There’s a frequent ferry that takes visitors back and forth between Brooklyn and Manhattan which makes this the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours.

20. Brush up on your history at the American Museum of Natural History.

Thanks to movies like The Night at the Museum , the American Museum of Natural History is one of New York’s most recognizable buildings.  Housed in a magnificent late 19th-century building near Central Park, the museum boasts a spectacular collection of dinosaur skeletons, looming IMAX theaters, and a range of exhibits covering the Earth’s natural history.

There are free guided tours held throughout the day where you can learn more about the exhibits and the history of the building. The tours last around 75 minutes. Spots are limited so make sure to sign up for one on the first floor when you arrive.

21. Unleash your inner artist (or art critic!) .

Besides offering some of the world’s best history museums, New York City is also home to some of the world’s most renowned art museums including the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). All of these museums have incomparable collections that can hold their own against other international art museums like the Louvre, the National Gallery in London, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, and the Uffizi in Florence.

Visiting any of these museums can give you a great perspective on art from all over the world. Many of these museums offer free guided tours or you can also book a private tour for you and your group. This is the perfect rainy or snowy day activity and one of the many fun things that you can do as a group in the Big Apple.

22. Join a walking tour .

Unlike most American cities, York is a city for walkers. If you have good shoes, time, and a lot of endurance, you can walk from the tip of Manhattan to the far northern stretches of the island with nothing standing in your way. This makes NYC an amazing place to do a walking tour.

There are many different guided tours offered throughout the city. Some cover general history and culture while others delve into niche topics like pizza, Broadway theaters, George Washington, dive bars, and more. Basically, you want it—you got it! Both types of tours give you great insight into what makes NYC so special.

If you’re feeling really energetic, you can even spend the day doing a food tour of Chinatown and then finish it off with a dive bar tour of Greenwich Village! The world is your oyster…. or… apple?

23. Have a seaside holiday at Coney Island .

Coney Island holds a special place in the American psyche. This beach destination and amusement park has become almost synonymous with the early 20th century when beach babes would put on their best swimming costumes and go for a swim in the chilly Atlantic waters.

Although Coney Island doesn’t hold quite the same sense of grandeur as it once did, it still offers a great escape from the busyness of the city, sweeping views of the ocean, and the chance to let your inner child out for a few hours. While you are there, you can go for a walk on the boardwalk, eat carnival-style food, ride on one of the amusement park rides, or go for a swim if you are feeling brave. This is a great way to experience the old-school New York of yesteryear and have a great time doing it!

24. Climb aboard the Intrepid .

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to climb aboard a historic 1943 aircraft carrier (or any aircraft carrier for that matter!). Docked in the Hudson River at the edge of Hell’s Kitchen in Midtown West, The Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum is a must-visit for all history and military buffs. During your visit, you can check out airplanes, helicopters, submarines, and space shuttles while learning about the science and history behind them.

Besides their normal visiting hours, the museum offers special programs for groups and community organizations where you can get private tours and take part in experiential and object-based learning. They also host free events throughout the summer including outdoor movies and wine tasting and mixology lessons as well as overnight visits where you can sleep amongst the aircraft!

25. Go to a free outdoor event .

As they say, the only things in life that are certain are death and taxes. While New Yorkers pay a sizable chunk of change in tax, they definitely get a lot for their money when it comes to free events!  Every summer, you can find free cultural events happening in all corners of Manhattan.

Free movie nights, live performances of Shakespeare plays in Central Park, yoga and exercise classes, and concerts are a great way to spend a few hours on a warm summer evening. The key to enjoying your time at these free events is to get there early to snag a good spot, bring some snacks, and drinks, and relax for a while. If you’re planning on attending something with a large group, have a few of your team members try to go as early as possible even if that means spending half of the day hanging around to save your spot. Trust us, it’s definitely worth it!

26. Take a cooking class .

With more than 700 Michelin-starred restaurants, countless hole-in-the-wall joints, and some of the best pizza on the planet, New York is a city that takes its food seriously. What better place is there to take a cooking class?

From learning how to roll your own sushi to putting together the ultimate vegan meal, cooking classes are a great corporate team-building event as they give team members the chance to show off their cooking skills while learning a few tips and tricks on creating a delicious meal. Cooking classes are held throughout the city. You can attend them at culinary institutes, restaurants, or even bakeries depending on what types of culinary skills you want to learn.

Ready to roam?

We hope this list of fun group activities in NYC has left you inspired to grab your friends, family members, or coworkers and have some fun in the Big Apple. As you can see, corporate team-building activities don’t necessarily have to mean being stuck in a boring hotel conference room!

If you want to read about more great group activities in cities like Seattle , Miami , and Charlotte or even more team-building activities in New York , make sure you head over to the Let’s Roam Explorer blog . Here, you’ll find tons of great destination guides, must-see lists, and travel articles for locations all over the world.

Spa Resorts

Wellness spaces, nature activities, coming soon.

Between spa resorts that focus on nature-based rituals like forest bathing and aromatherapy massages, glamping , and opportunities for outdoor recreation, Upstate New York — specifically, the scenic regions of Catskills and Hudson Valley — has emerged as the ultimate four-season wellness destination on the East Coast.

So whether you’re looking to schvitz out toxins in the sauna, try some alternative healing practices such as reiki, or sleep under the stars , the arcadian goldmine of wellbeing northwest of New York City delivers. Even better news for stressed-out urbanites seeking fresh air and transformative energy? It’s just a short drive or train ride from the Big Apple.

For folks who are new to the whole wellness thing, a luxury spa resort promises to be an indulgent and exceedingly comfortable entry point — especially if it’s somewhere like Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection . Tucked away on a river-crossed, 140-acre plot in Gardiner, the pastoral escape is dotted with free-standing cabins and boasts a resplendent spa with a rotating menu of treatments inspired by shifting seasons that use locally harvested botanical products. To unwind before and after the healing rituals? Outdoor hot tubs and an indoor saltwater pool.

In the fall of 2023, Hemlock Neversink  in Sullivan County, New York, started welcoming guests. "The 34-room Hotel Neversink shows that upstate New York tourism darling Foster Supply Hospitality is as invested as ever in local communities and creating welcoming, offbeat lodges — just ask on-site goat whisperer Meagan Frederick, who leads complimentary rambles on the 230-acre grounds with a herd of nine goats," Samantha Falewée , a senior editor at Travel + Leisure , said. "The food at Bittersweet is frankly phenomenal: local but mod, and most importantly, delicious. The spa is small but nice; when the pool opens that will be a treat."

Mohonk Mountain House , a castle resort that’s been around since 1869, recently upgraded its spa to include an outdoor treatment sanctuary overlooking the lake, plus a variety of new wellness experiences — including mindfulness sessions, hydrotherapy massages, and seasonal programs.

The smaller Piaule Catskill , a modern and minimally minded “landscape hotel,” supplies a spa with saltwater and cold mineral pools as well as bird walks, yoga, sound baths, and stress-melting massages.

INNESS , which has amassed quite the loyal base thanks to its soothing farmhouse-chic aesthetic, harvest-driven fare, and flora-framed grounds, will add a nature-oriented, full-service spa in the fall.

Glamping definitely falls into the wellness cannon, too. If you’re all about communing with Mother Nature but prefer not to recharge on the ground, a tricked-out tent at AutoCamp Catskills might be just the ticket. The 31-foot Airstreams are also compelling (and cool) options. Wellness-tinged experiences include forest bathing, morning meditation, and pottery making.

In addition to its cozy regular rooms, Eastwind Hotel & Bar offers guests the opportunity to snooze in Scandi-inspired A-frame cabins surrounded by the tranquility of leafy trees.

Getaway Eastern Catskills leans into the collective interest in downsizing and streamlining, inviting guests to do away with the superfluous extras by shacking up in tiny homes. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean sacrificing creature comforts like queen beds and hot showers.

Upstate New York has heaps of alternative day spas with an emphasis on wellbeing. Hudson Valley Healing Center boasts an immersive salt cave, infrared sauna, a hyperbaric chamber, and vitamin IVs. BODHI is a holistic sanctuary that supports well-being through yoga, acupuncture, energy work, and massages. More than just places to practice downward dog, studios that go beyond the physical aspects of asana such as Stone Wave Yoga — which hosts classes, pranayama workshops, farm meditation, and retreats — are on the rise as well.

It’s no secret that hiking is a huge reason people visit Catskills and Hudson Valley. Both destinations are exceedingly popular among fall-foliage chasers , but possess a year-round appeal that means wildflower-framed trails in the spring and summer.

Other pilgrimage-worthy ways to work up a sweat? Biking, kayaking, and climbing the Gunks. When winter rolls in, snow covers the mountain resorts, creating picture-perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding. Ice skating on frozen lakes and cross-country skiing through frosted parks are great ways to remain active when the temps dip.

Missouri and South Dakota Move Toward Abortion Rights Ballot Questions

Both states are reliably Republican and have abortion bans that are among the strictest in the nation.

By Kate Zernike

Two more states with near-total abortion bans are poised to have citizen-sponsored measures on the ballot this year that would allow voters to reverse those bans by establishing a right to abortion in their state constitutions.

On Friday, a coalition of abortion rights groups in Missouri turned in 380,159 signatures to put the amendment on the ballot, more than double the 172,000 signatures required by law. The Missouri organizers’ announcement followed a petition drive in South Dakota that announced on Wednesday that it, too, had turned in many more signatures than required for a ballot amendment there.

Both groups are hoping to build on the momentum of other states where abortion rights supporters have prevailed in seven out of seven ballot measures in the two years since the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which had established a constitutional right to abortion for nearly five decades.

Groups in about 10 other states have secured spots on the ballot for abortion rights measures or are collecting signatures to do so. Those include Arizona and Nevada, swing states where Democrats are hoping that voters who are newly energized around abortion rights will help President Biden win re-election.

South Dakota and Missouri are reliably Republican states. But their bans are among the strictest in the nation, outlawing abortion except to save the life of a pregnant woman.

Missouri, where post-Roe polls show that a majority of voters want abortion to be legal in all or most cases, appears to offer abortion rights groups the bigger chance of success. But both measures face significant hurdles.

Republicans who control the Missouri legislature are pushing another ballot question that would appear before voters in August and make it harder for future ballot amendments to succeed.

That measure would raise the threshold for victory, requiring not only a majority of voters statewide but a majority of voters in five out of the state’s eight congressional districts. Abortion rights supporters fear the requirement would allow a minority in rural areas that tend to oppose abortion rights to vote down the amendment.

Missouri legislators are expected to vote on that measure before their session ends this month. State officials will also have to decide whether the abortion rights measure appears on the primary election ballot in August, when turnout tends to be light, or in the general election in November.

The state’s Republican leaders have attempted to keep the measure from going before voters for more than a year. The secretary of state, Jay Ashcroft, attempted to change the language of the ballot measure in ways that could have inflamed fears that it would lead to dangerous and unregulated abortions; supporters of the measure successfully sued to block him.

The amendment in Missouri i s similar to ones passed in Ohio and Michigan. It would establish “the right to make and carry out decisions about all matters relating to reproductive health care,” including abortion. The Legislature could regulate abortion after the point when, “in the good faith judgment” of the treating health care professional, the fetus could survive outside the uterus without “extraordinary medical measures.”

In South Dakota, getting the signatures certified could be a challenge because Republican legislators passed a law in March allowing signers to withdraw their support. Backers of the amendment collected about 55,000 signatures, 20,000 more than needed, but anti-abortion groups are working to collect enough reversals to keep the measure off the ballot.

The amendment effort in South Dakota has been largely driven by one group, Dakotans for Health. Planned Parenthood and other usual allies of abortion rights have declined to support the effort. The groups say that the ballot amendment leaves open the possibility that the legislature could continue to regulate abortion so heavily that the amendment would allow, in the words of the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, “abortion in name only.”

The South Dakota amendment would prohibit the state from regulating “a pregnant woman’s abortion decision and its effectuation” during the first trimester, but would allow regulations on the procedure during the second trimester only in ways that are “reasonably related to the physical health of the pregnant woman.” In the third trimester, the state could regulate and even ban abortion, as long as the ban included exceptions for the “life or health of the pregnant woman.”

South Dakota is one of a handful of states where polls show that less than a majority of voters — 47 percent in a recent survey — believe that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. (The other states in that same survey were North Dakota, Arkansas, Idaho, and Utah.)

Exclusive-Royal Caribbean recruiting thousands to meet surging demand, sources say

By Doyinsola Oladipo

NEW YORK (Reuters) -Cruise operator Royal Caribbean Group is in discussions with new and existing markets around the world to recruit thousands of workers to staff its ships and private destinations to keep up with record cruise demand.

The number of people taking cruises hit a record in 2023, and with the surge in demand and larger vessels, labor needs are growing. Tourism boards and port operators from around the world said Royal Caribbean is looking to hire worldwide and the company confirmed it will hire around 10,000 workers this year.

Royal Caribbean's sea-based workforce at the end of 2023 totaled about 88,700 employees, 6% lower than the year prior, according to the company's annual filing. The company's land-based workforce including private destinations consisted of approximately 9,500 full-time employees, up 17%.

Bookings hit a record in the first quarter, boosting quarterly revenue to $3.73 billion, up 29%, and the company's stock price doubled in the past year to hit a new record.

"The recruiting strategy follows the business strategy of moderate capacity growth," a spokesperson said. The company plans to hire more than 10,000 workers in 2024 as it brings on three new ships, they added.

Andrew Spencer, president of the Caribbean Maritime University in Jamaica, said Royal Caribbean and rival Carnival have asked the university to ramp up short-term skills and certifications courses to get more workers trained for a career at sea.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) in April was approached by Royal Caribbean in regards to recruitment and hiring, a request it hadn't received in the past, said Natasha Chalwell, BVI Port Authority marketing director.

Royal isn't only focused on the Caribbean. The company also approached The Gambia Tourism Board in April with an interest in hiring more workers, a spokesperson said. The cruise operator currently employs about 700 workers from the West African nation.

"This is something we have discussed and will follow up to see how best we can facilitate that (request)," the spokesperson said. The tourism board said it will try to provide up to 1,000 additional workers.

Netherlands territory St. Maarten is in the midst of discussions about recruitment with Royal after the parties held a recruitment drive last year to source 1,000 workers.

"It did not necessarily yield as many applicants that I think we all were expecting," said Alexander Gumbs, chief executive of Port St. Maarten Group, who said less than a third of that goal for 1,000 applied.

Tens of thousands of people need to be hired from the Caribbean and Latin America as new ships are deployed across the industry, according to the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association, a trade organization. Tourism boards and ports said one of the major challenges is educating potential candidates about a career at sea to meet industry labor demand.

group travel new york

On May 7, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in Italy. This announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our team of experts, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels. In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection in Italy includes 8 Three Key hotels, 31 Two Key hotels, and 107 One Key hotels. Want to know more about the MICHELIN Key? Velona's Jungle Luxury Suites — Florence

Under 10 Rooms: The Tiny Keys Reign Across Italy

Expect: Bold, proprietor-driven design themes, special experiences, and hyper-personal service. The tiny hotels that pepper the cities and countryside might get lost on lists full of castles and palazzos, but these little boutiques with ten rooms or less are some the most creative and satisfying accommodations in all of Italy. It’s a given that you’ll find places like these in the Tuscan countryside ( Siena House and Follonico Suite B&B — both with just six bedrooms), but don’t miss the gems in the cities. Vico Milano is a seven room space filled with dazzling design furniture and contemporary art. Velona’s Jungle Luxury Suites is a pocket-sized jungle-themed luxury boutique full of animal-print upholstery and peacock-feather prints. Both are independently owned and marvelously compact.

Lupaia — Torrita di Siena

Pick One: A Castle or a Farmhouse Hotel in Tuscany

Two iconic options in Tuscany earned a bevy of Keys: the castle hotel and the classic farmhouse. The former speaks for itself — ancient fortifications that were once private residences, built to house the handsomely titled, and fortified against attack. Towers, turrets, and crenellations give way to handsome wine cellars and vineyard views. Look to Castello di Casole for a masterclass in how to convert a thousand-year-old estate into a historically preserved, contemporarily luxurious hotel. Meanwhile, the motif of the Tuscan farmhouse has been emulated throughout the world — but there’s nothing like the real thing. Hotels like Lupaia and Conti di San Bonifacio make farmhouse charm into nothing less than a work of art.

It’s profoundly satisfying to us that one of the most impressive places in the world has among the world’s most impressive hotels. On the Amalfi Coast, where natural cliffsides tumble down into an endless Italian sea, hotels like Palazzo Pascal and Le Sirenuse host guests in miraculous buildings that served for centuries as aristocratic homes over the water. Casa Angelina and Borgo Santandrea sport more modern builds. In either case, the views are perennially spectacular. Also read: High Drama in the Seaside Hotels of the Amalfi Coast

The Strategist Guide to Making a Bed

group travel new york

The writers and editors at the Strategist spend a lot of their working hours thinking about bedding (testing mattresses , studying the difference between percale and sateen ). So it’s not terribly surprising that when it comes to their own beds, they’re a bit obsessive. Here’s how they style their duvets , quilts , shams , and unattractive orthopedic pillows.

Okay, if I were to walk into your bedrooms right now, what would I see?

Lauren Ro, writer: We have a king-size bed, and I top it with Company Store’s Premium Alberta Down Light Warmth Comforter . I change up the cover depending on my mood — I use a linen one from Parachute in dusk for a casual, lived-in look, and Snowe’s Percale Duvet Cover for a polished vibe. It has a border trim that makes it look a bit formal without appearing too fancy. For every setup, I use a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, two standard pillows, two king pillows, and two mini-shams with scalloped flanges.

The Company Store Premium Alberta Down Light Warmth Comforter

Simone Kitchens, senior editor: I don’t like a sad-looking low duvet. Aesthetically, my bed needs to be pillowy, so I top mine with a Parachute Down Duvet that’s super-fluffy or Quince’s Premium Down Comforter . When either one is paired with my mauve percale duvet cover from Parachute , it stays lofty.

Parachute Down Duvet Insert

Liza Corsillo, writer: Contrary to almost everyone in this group, I’m not trying to create the perfect marshmallowy bed. I basically want it to look like a more modern take on a cozy spare bed in a grandma’s summer cottage. I prefer a flat and neat surface. I use linen fitted and flat sheets from MagicLinen with a coverlet or quilt on top. I rotate between two quilts from Schoolhouse, then sometimes in the summer I’ll use a linen duvet cover, also from MagicLinen , without anything in it.

MagicLinen Sheet Set (4 Pieces)

Crystal Martin, senior editor: That’s what I do too. My apartment is too hot for a duvet, but I like buying duvet covers for styling purposes. I use them like blankets. I make up for the flat look with a ton of pillows . There are six on my queen bed. I have two Euro shams from Piglet in Bed and two muslin standards from Bluebell that are just decorative, and then the two that I sleep on.

Piglet in Bed Linen Pillowcases

Amelia Jerden, sleep writer: My bed might be the simplest. Fully made, it consists of either bamboo sheets by Ettitude or linen sheets by Parachute or sateen sheets by California Design Den ; an old quilt; and usually an extra-fuzzy blanket from Target, which I fold into quarters and lay at the end of the bed. I just have two pillows, one for me and one for my partner.

Ettitude Signature Sateen Sheet Set

Are you partial to white bedding?

S.K.: I’ve moved away from it. It’s not easy to keep looking good, so my sheets are this beautiful olive, almost moss green. We just covered this brand in the Secret Strategist newsletter called Studio Sutram . It has beautiful pigmented sheets and duvets in solids, and you can build a tonal mono-color look with them.

Studio Sutram Fitted Sheet

L.R.: I’ve been liking the Bria sheets by Bella Notte . They’re sateen and supersoft. I have them in a deep purple called fig.

Bella Notte Bria Flat Sheet

A.J.: My paisley quilt serves as a statement for the entire setup, so I keep the rest of it pretty simple. My sheets are either white or a sage green that matches the green in my quilt.

C.M.: I’m not afraid of patterns either. The Euro shams I mentioned are gingham, and the standards have an allover petite floral pattern.

Are your sheets tucked or untucked?

A.J.: I do know how to do hospital corners, but I am too lazy to do that on a regular basis. I usually just fold the top sheet over the quilt or hide it underneath.

L.C.: My sheets stay hidden too. I don’t tuck anything in. I really hate when the top sheet is tucked in and my feet feel trapped.

We have some orthopedic-pillow fans in the group. Do you display those on the bed?

S.K.: This is such a problem for me. I have two super-sculpted Tempur-Pedic pillows that are on the smaller side, but they look so bad in a regular pillowcase, so I hide them underneath king-size pillows. They sort of meet the flap of the duvet in a nice way. Nobody makes good Tempur-Pedic pillowcases.

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Symphony Pillow

C.M.: I also have embarrassing orthopedic pillows : There’s a cutout for my head.

L.C.: I have been getting really into quilted pillow shams. I have some vintage ones from Pottery Barn in navy blue with little ties, but the Pick-Stitch Handcrafted Cotton-Linen Quilted Shams it currently sells are similar and they camouflage any mess underneath. I also take a minute to throw on a tiny pillow with an embroidered sleeping cat on it at the very end.

Flight attendants use security privileges to smuggle millions in drug money out of US: federal prosecutors

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Federal agents hauled a flight attendant out of New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport as they broke up an international money laundering ring that prosecutors allege smuggled $8 million in drug-related proceeds out of the U.S. by taking advantage of flight crews' easy airport access.

Four airline employees, three from New York and another from New Jersey, are accused of taking a cut of each shipment as they snuck it through special employee-access lanes at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints and onto flights bound for the Dominican Republic.

The suspects all had special clearance with the TSA under the Known Crewmember Program, or KCM. Airline employees with KCM status have a separate, expedited security lane and face less scrutiny, according to federal prosecutors.

"In effect, given these loosened security procedures, KCM privileges allow flight attendants to bypass airport security with large quantities of cash without that cash being seized," the federal criminal complaint reads.

Charlie Hernandez, 42; Sarah Valerio Pujols, 42; Emmanuel Torres, 34; and Jarol Fabio 35, each face federal felony charges of operating an unlicensed money transmission business and violating airport security requirements.

"As alleged, the defendants knowingly smuggled large amounts of illicit money linked to the sale of narcotics, to include fentanyl, and took advantage of airport security checkpoints by using their trusted positions as flight attendants," Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Ivan Arvelo said Wednesday. "This investigation has exposed critical vulnerabilities in the airline security industry and has illuminated methods that narcotics traffickers are utilizing."

They allegedly used the code word "lotions" to mean drug cash and allegedly checked in with their handlers for cargo in advance of flights to the Caribbean nation and referred to the smuggling ring's drug-dealing clients as "los tigres," Spanish for "the tigers." When referring to "stuff," they meant the drugs, including fentanyl, that led to the illicit proceeds.

During that same span, Pujols allegedly transported at least $1.5 million on flights to the Dominican Republic. Both Torres and Fabio are accused of smuggling more than $1.5 million apiece between 2015 and last year and face up to 15 years in prison.

In exchange for getting the cash through TSA checkpoints , they each allegedly received a small cut — around $1,000 to $2,000 per $60,000 smuggled.

"As alleged, these flight attendants smuggled millions of dollars of drug money and law enforcement funds that they thought was drug money from the United States to the Dominican Republic over many years by abusing their privileges as airline employees," U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a statement.

Hernandez also faces conspiracy charges, bringing his maximum prison sentence to 20 years. Pujols faces the same conspiracy charge and an additional count of bulk cash smuggling, increasing her maximum possible penalty to 25 years behind bars if convicted.

JFK Flight Attendant escorted out of airport by federal Homeland Security Investigations Agents

She had been fired by her employer, an unspecified international airline , in 2019. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents allegedly found $60,000 in undeclared cash in her purse during a check on Dec. 20 of that year, according to the complaint.

Homeland Security Investigations and the NYPD began investigating an international drug trafficking and money laundering ring in 2018, leading them to an informant identified in court documents as "Cooperating Witness 1," who sold out his alleged mules.

After CBP agents stopped Pujols, the informant told federal investigators that Hernandez had another $60,000 which is currently unaccounted for.
