Experience Michigan by touring campus and meeting the people who make up our dynamic community.
The University of Michigan is located on the territory of the Anishinaabe people. In 1817, the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Bodewadami Nations made the largest single land transfer to the University of Michigan, ceded in the Treaty of Fort Meigs, so that their children could be educated. We acknowledge the history of native displacement that allowed the University of Michigan to be founded. Today we reaffirm contemporary and ancestral Anishinaabek ties to the land and their profound contributions to this institution.

2027 QB Mason Holtzclaw Details ’Amazing’ Michigan Visit
Eric rutter | jun 5, 2024.

- Michigan Wolverines
Over the weekend, 2027 Arden (NC) Christ School quarterback Mason Holtzclaw was in Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit at Michigan, and the 6-4, 185-pounder is a young prospect that the Wolverines coaching staff is keeping tabs on.
“We got to watch their first summer practice of the year being on the sideline interacting with all of the coaches, which was awesome,” Holtzclaw told Wolverine Digest . “We toured all of campus and the football facilities, which was one of the nicest I’ve seen. Also, they took us by the Big House. That was amazing, getting to be on the field and seeing how big the stadium is.”
So far, Holtzclaw has already picked up offers from East Carolina, Kentucky, Toledo, USF and Virginia Tech early in his recruiting process, and more schools are expected to enter this mix as the summer goes on. Holtzclaw has an extensive visit schedule for the next couple months with stops at Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and South Carolina. However, Michigan took center stage over the weekend, and Holtzclaw described his time on the U-M campus.

“Most of the time I was with coach [Kirk] Campbell and coach [Josh] Sinagoga,” Holtzclaw said. “After practice was over, coach Sinagoga took me into the office and we watched some of their film and broke it down. He was surprised that I knew so much already, being as young as I am. We also were in coach Campbell's office, and he was telling me about how great of an offense they have and he said that I’m one of the top 2027s on their board.”
According to 247Sports.com, Michigan has only offered two quarterbacks in the 2027 class up to this point, but this visit sounds like it laid the groundwork for Holtzclaw and the U-M staff to learn more about each other.
“I would say something that stood out to me on the visit is how all of the coaches interacted with me and the stadium was a big thing that stood out to me,” Holtzclaw said. “Also, they are a National Championship team and are a winning program.”
Overall, Michigan impressed the North Carolina native on the visit just a handful of months after winning college football’s most important title.
“I would rate my visit great at Michigan,” Holtzclaw said. “I could see myself playing in their offense and thriving in it.”

Top Michigan football 2025 target sets commitment date
W hile he hasn't been to campus yet for his official visit, things have been trending well for Michigan football with one of its top targets.
2025 Red Oak (Tx.) four-star wide receiver Taz Williams Jr. fits the mold of what the Wolverines are looking for at the position and is set to visit Ann Arbor in just a few short weeks, on June 21. Also planning to visit Penn State and Texas A&M before that, it appears that he'll have his decision made as to where he'll commit in short order.
Williams is set to announce his school of choice just a few weeks after his slate of visits concludes with July 13 being the date he'll make his commitment.
According to his graphic, Williams is also considering SMU among his final contenders.
As for what he likes about Michigan football, Williams told WolverinesWire last week that the maize and blue see him as a redux of Roman Wilson.
“They see me as an outside-inside guy that can do it all,” Williams said. “It’s basically how they used Roman. That’s how I’d describe it, how they used Roman. They used him outside-inside, they get him the ball, they try to get playmakers the ball. So they told me they’d get me the ball in different ways so I won’t get schemed by the defense – it will be easier. To get to the next level in the league, it makes you more marketable being able to play multiple positions – to play inside-outside, outside-in.”
As of current, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions indicating where he'll end up but we did put him in our best-guess list of the 2025 class for Michigan football.

An alliance of three Michigan universities benefitted the state with nearly $24 billion in economic impact last year, officials said.
The University Research Corridor, which partners the University of Michigan, Michigan State and Wayne State, released its 2023 URC Economic Impact Report on Monday, May 27.
For every dollar the state invested into the three universities, the corridor put back $24 into the state economy through research, education and innovation activities, jobs and more, corridor officials said.
The economic impact includes training employees for businesses across the state needing skilled workers, the in-state spending of 152,000 students and 755,000 resident alumni, contributing to communities in every Michigan county and investing in research, officials said.
The total impact was $23.9 billion, or 144 times as much as the $165 million in economic impact generated by the NFL Draft in Detroit, officials said.
The three universities employ about 71,000 people across the state, officials said. This is more than Michigan-based companies such as Meijer or Dow Chemical Company.
Some of the research at the three universities include about $1.6 billion in life sciences in 2022 and more than $565 million in mobility over the past five years, officials said. The corridor produces about $3 billion in research and development each year, officials said.
The corridor also produced more medical professionals to the tune of 21% more medical degrees granted and 2,500 more total medical degrees for the fourth year in a row, officials said.
The full economic impact report can be downloaded here .

Michigan basketball hires KT Harrell as director of operations

New Michigan b asketball coach Dusty May brought another staffer from Florida Atlantic to join him in Ann Arbor.
Michigan announced it hired KT Harrell as the Wolverines' director of basketball operations on Friday. Harrell previously worked in the same position at Florida Atlantic since 2022 as a part of May's program in Boca Raton.
"It was a joy to work with KT over the last two years (at Florida Atlantic)," May said in a statement. "His ability to connect and communicate with the players is a tremendous asset. After a standout collegiate and professional career, he is an up-and-coming young coach. We are thrilled he and his family have joined us at Michigan."
Harrell joined Florida Atlantic after he started as a graduate assistant for the program he played for, Auburn, from 2020-22. Harrell played college basketball at Virginia before transferring to Auburn, and played professionally overseas before getting into coaching. He was a part of FAU's consecutive 25-win seasons in 2022 and 2023 which resulted in a Final Four appearance and conference championship under May's guidance.
"My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to work at a prestigious institution like the University of Michigan," Harrell said in a statement. "It has been an amazing experience to work with Coach May over the past two years and to rejoin him makes me very thankful. His dedication to the game and, more importantly, his players is unmatched. I look forward to supporting him, this amazing staff, and our players in our pursuit of excellence on and off the court."
Harrell joins a newly constructed coaching staff featuring three former FAU assistants (Drew Williamson, Kyle Church and Brandon Gilbert), plus former Saint Mary's assistant Justin Joyner , former Georgia assistant Akeem Miskdeen and former Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton Jr.

As ivy league prioritizes ‘activism at expense of academics,’ other schools rise to top for employers.

For decades, a degree from the Ivy League all but guaranteed graduates a top-tier job.
But, in the wake of post-October 7th campus chaos, employers are taking a broader view — and looking at alumni from schools once seen as being less prestigious than Harvard or Columbia.
“The longer I hired people, the less correlation I saw between prestigious schools and success within my company,” entrepreneur and CEO Liz Elting told The Post. “Only hiring from Ivy League schools will leave your organization with a limited and homogeneous talent pool.
![college visits university of michigan Boston College campus](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/boston-college-campus-september-14-82885631.jpg?w=1024)
“Companies are discovering that talent can come from anywhere, and they’re right,” she added.
Suddenly, an Ivy League pedigree has lost its luster for hiring managers who fear onboarding a radical antisemite or woke pro-Palestine camper.
![college visits university of michigan USC Campus](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/people-walk-campus-university-southern-80151335.jpg?w=1024)
Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy made headlines in December for saying he will no longer hire from the Ivy League — and other hiring managers are following.
Adam Leitman Bailey, who runs a law firm in Manhattan, has flat out refused to hire Ivy graduates for over a decade.
“We don’t hire from the Ivy League,” he told The Post. “We want the person with the highest grades, who competed with their classmates and grew up without means and have drive. And we got the best candidates by going to the top of the class of the second and third tier schools.”
![college visits university of michigan Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy clapping](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/dave-portnoy-barstool-sports-seen-16163436.jpg?w=1024)
Tellingly, Forbes recently released a ranking of schools that are “turning out the smart, driven graduates craved by employers of all types,” based on standardized testing scores and a sentiment survey of hiring managers.
Among the public colleges that made the cut are Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Virginia and University of Wisconsin Madison.
Private colleges on the list include Boston College, Emory, Georgetown, Vanderbilt and USC.
![college visits university of michigan Georgetown University campus](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/cost-university-education-united-states-15305239.jpg?w=1024)
“Those schools are being added to college lists and are being considered in a very similar light to the Ivy League,” college admissions consultant and Command Education CEO Christopher Rim told The Post. “Our clients are wanting to get into Ivies and Ivy-plus schools — including these so-called ‘new Ivies.'”
He estimates that applications to the private schools on the list have gone up by 10 to 15% among his clients in the past admissions cycle — and that USC has especially soared in popularity.
Other private colleges on the list include Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Rice, and Notre Dame.
![college visits university of michigan Harvard University liberated some](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/2024-pro-palestinian-protests-rocked-81273902_f1da76.jpg?w=1024)
So-called Ivy-plus schools — MIT, Stanford, Duke and the University of Chicago — were excluded from the rankings by Forbes.
Graduates of the “new Ivies” average an impressive 1482 on the SAT and 33 on the ACT — well into the top 10 percent of test takers.
“I think a big reason why employers are focusing on second-tier schools is because the quality of the students at the actual Ivies can be so low,” Rim said. “The Ivy League focuses so much on diversity, performative activism, and social impact causes at the expense of academics.”
Other top-ranked public schools included University of Texas Austin, Binghamton University, University of Florida, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and University of Maryland College Park.
![college visits university of michigan UNC Chapel Hill campus](https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/05/2023-chapel-hill-north-carolina-13387201.jpg?w=1024)
Notably, California public colleges were omitted because they no longer require standardized tests .
“At the end of the day, it’s really what you do at these universities — the connections you make, how hard you work,” Rim added.
As more and more employers wake up to the reality that the Ivy League isn’t what it used to be amidst an explosion of pro-Palestine encampments and rampant campus antisemitism, some had seen the writing on the wall.
