App is a waste of time

Picking seats is really tricky, but if you managed to do that, then you get the 4620 error when trying to pay. I tried a few different credit cards. The app says my card was declined, but my card companies tell me there were no attempted charges, they had not declined a payment. Like I said, attempting to use the app was a complete waste of time. Well, except it will make those seats you picked unavailable for quite a while. So, uninstalling the application and reinstalling or trying a different device just ties up even more seats on the plane.

Worst Airline Ever

I don’t like to give negative reviews but this time it’s necessary. Kenya Airways please put some effort in improving your services. Starting from your website. Before you even get a mobile app, you should have a website that functions well. I have an excellent wifi connection but your website lags way too much, it is so frustrating. You should also work on your refund process. I’ve been trying to redeem my voucher for the past two months but I send multiple emails with no reply, someone might think you are scamming people.

How to log in CheckMyTrip

1. download the checkmytrip app.

CheckMyTrip is now available in apps only.  If you don’t have the CheckMyTrip app on your mobile, first you will need to install the app via Google Play or Apple App Store.

2. Log in with your email address

Once you download the app, you can enter the email you have registered with in CheckMyTrip. Please note that you no longer need a password to login.  To log in, simply enter the 6-digit confirmation code we’ve sent to your email.

3. See your past trips and add new ones

Once you enter the confirmation code, you will be able to see all your trips. You can swipe left to see all your past trips and right for upcoming ones. 

There are 3 ways to add your trips:

• Simply forward your booking confirmation emails to [email protected] and we will import your trip details for you. Just make sure that the email you are forwarding from is the same email that is associated with your CheckMyTrip account
• Via digital assistant: If your trip is booked through the Amadeus Booking system (by travel agencies or airlines using Amadeus), you can share the 6-digit booking code with the digital assistant to automatically import it
• Via digital assistant: You can share the trip details with the digital assistant to add them for you

Yes, after printing your boarding pass at home, you will have to drop your luggage at the dedicated online check-in drop off point and proceed to the boarding gate.

Yes, you can select or change your seat while checking in online.

If I plan to check in at the airport, how much time should I allot?

• For all international flights , passengers are required to check in at least two and a half hours before departure of flight (irrespective of class of travel).
• Flying Blue Elite members (Gold and Platinum) traveling from Nairobi to any destination have priority check in and boarding and lounge access with one guest. Remember to present your Flying Blue card at the counter to automatically register your miles. Request for an upgrade to business class if you have sufficient miles. Upgrades are applicable only if you hold an economy ticket booked on S, B, or M booking classe. Upgrades are subject to availability.

For Kenya Airways flights, it is convenient to check-in online, as you do not have to wait in long airport queues. You can also check-in using your phone.  

• Visit https://www.kenya-airways.com/prepare-for-travel/manage-booking/online-check-in/en/ and enter your departure date, along with your Kenya Airways PNR number (booking reference number) or Kenya Airways e-ticket number.
• Click on ‘Continue’, to confirm your information, select seats of your choice and print your boarding pass.

Criteria for Online Check-in with Kenya Airways

• Web check-in for Kenya Airways flights is available from 30 hours to 1 hour before the scheduled departure of your domestic or international flight.
• Airport check-in counters close 1 hour before departure for international flights, and 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights. Kenya Airways on the Spot Over 2-Day Flight Delay

T ravel and lifestyle Content creator Silvia Njoki has expressed her disappointment after she could not travel back home from Miami, USA due to a two-day flight cancellation by Kenya Airways (KQ)

The founder of Soul Sync Discoveries revealed that she was planning to travel back to Kenya on April 15 only to be notified by the airline that her flight had been cancelled.

“KQ regrets to inform you that your upcoming flight KQ3 to NBO on 15 Apr has been cancelled. Rest assured we are working on an alternative and will provide an update shortly,” the notification stated.

The airline later updated her of the new developments and informed her of the new travel dates.

“KQ regrets to inform you that your flight(s) KQ3 has been affected by a schedule change. Your flight is now scheduled to depart on Wednesday 17 April 2024 at 13:45Hrs and arrive NBO at 10:45Hrs. Click below to take action or check your email for more information,” the notification read.

As such, Silvia wondered how a flight can be cancelled for two days further complaining of the challenges she faced despite booking a direct flight to avoid lay overs.

Silvia further lamented about her missing out on work appointments and her daughter missing school.

“Imagine a world in 2024 where your flight gets cancelled for 2 days!!!! @officialkenyaairways which is unfortunate because we booked this direct flight so I could avoid layovers. Now my daughter will miss her first day back to school; (and I will miss a few work appointments,” she noted.

Previous Flight Cancellation

The content creator recalled telling her friend about another cancellation on the same flight a week prior to them travelling and hoped that all would be well come her departure date.

She documented the ordeal in her social media platform showing the challenges she experienced including poor customer service from the airline attendants, no food and delays in offering a place to sleep.

Moreover, the content creator compared KQ and Qatar Airways, applauding their swiftness in dealing with a similar situation citing that she enjoyed her time at a hotel offered by the airline despite a flight delay.

She further added that Qatar Airways reimbursed $600 as an incentive for the inconveniences caused.

Kenya Airways was yet to respond or issue a statement by press time.

Kenyans React to Kenya Airways Flight Delays

Following her public outcry, reactions poured in from Silvia’s stories with some of them expressing their frustration as well while others vowed to use alternative airlines.

Instagram user Jeh Kamau, termed it as the worst airline.

A different content creator Murugi Munyi shared a similar experience saying she almost missed the funeral procession of a close relative due to flight delays.

The podcaster who was traveling to Zimbabwe with her sister for her in law’s funeral lamented at a delay that would have meant them missing the service.

Murugi and Angela (her sister) had to find a place in the kids play area to lay their heads as they waited for their turn to board.

Nevertheless, Kenya Airways has been on the spotlight previously for flight cancellations and delays rising from a number of issues including spare part shortage, cabin crew shortage and maintenance.

Subsequently passengers have considered other competitor airlines for convenience.
