Elsewhere, Jones finally released her cover of  Ray Charles ‘ ‘Hallelujah, I Love Him So’ last year.

Released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her landmark debut ‘Come Away With Me’, Jones originally recorded her rendition of the 1956 song during one of her very first demo sessions for Blue Note Records back in 2000.

The cover had never previously been released but was made available for the first time as part of ‘Come Away With Me: 20th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition’, a multi-disc reissue that arrived in April 2022.

The show itself was great! But the chairs in Espaço das Americas are uncomfortable. It’s a place where I have no intention to go again.

Regarding the show, it’s important the artist plays a local song with her special voice and interpretation.

Beautiful performer, played some beautiful songs. Was obviously having a bad day or overtired because in a little over an hour she said about 3 sentences other than introducing the band after about the 4th or 5th songs.

It would have been nice to have have her introduce her new songs with the title and not just that it's on the internet! Or 'this is our last song' and get up say 'goodbye ' and walk off. At least there was an encore. It was like paying to watch a very expensive, professional open mic or watching them practice I've been to a fair few concerts so it was a bit odd

she's lost the blue note...

still a great singer but not sharing anything with the audience, or maybe she was just tired, anyway, it was disapointing, she baraly spoke to the people, there was nothing particular about the show, not interresting sadly

The last full album Norah released was her festive record, I Dream of Christmas, in 2021, but she also commemorated two decades since the release of debut album, Come Away with Me, in April 2022.

The record spawned some of her biggest hits, including Don’t Know Why and Feelin’ The Same Way.

Come Away with me earned the jazz artist five Grammy Awards, including the Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Announcing the special edition on her Instagram at the time, Norah explained: "It’s expanded to 44 tracks. 22 of them are previously unreleased recordings including early demos, bonus tracks and very special versions of the songs produced by Craig Street. It also includes a whopper of a liner notes section telling the story of the album, written by me.”

Most recently, Norah turned her attention to podcasting, and launched Norah Jones is Playing Along Podcast in September.

Describing the new venture, the singer-songwriter said at the time: “I love playing music with people so this seemed like a fun new way for me to collaborate. I’ll get to sit down with my favourite musicians to play songs and talk about life and music.”

The 50 Best Jazz Drummers Of All Time

‘power of three’: michel petrucciani’s masterful montreux live set.

The singer’s last release was  I Dream Of Christmas (Deluxe) , an expanded 24-track edition of the nine-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist’s  beloved 2021 holiday album , a delightful and comforting collection of timeless seasonal favorites and affecting originals. The Deluxe edition features 11 additional songs including bonus tracks and live performances, as well as a brand-new studio recording of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

“When I was trying to figure out which direction to take, the original songs started popping in my head,” Norah explained. “They were all about trying to find the joys of Christmas, catching that spark, that feeling of love and inclusion that I was longing for during the rest of the year. Then there are all the classics that have that special nostalgia that can hit you no matter who or where you are in life. It was hard to narrow down, but I picked favorite classics that I knew I could make my own.”

The original studio album was produced by Leon Michels and features an excellent cast of musicians including Blade on drums, Tony Scherr and Nick Movshon on bass, Russ Pahl on pedal steel guitar, Marika Hughes on cello, Dave Guy on trumpet, Raymond Mason on trombone, and Michels on saxophone, flute, percussion, and more.

Jones’ self-described “moody little record” introduced a singular new voice and grew into a global phenomenon, sweeping the 2003 GRAMMY Awards. Since then, Jones has become a nine-time GRAMMY-winner, sold more than 50 million albums, and her songs have been streamed six billion times worldwide. She has released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful solo albums—Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007), The Fall (2009), Little Broken Hearts (2012), Day Breaks (2016), Pick Me Up Off The Floor (2020), the live album ‘Til We Meet Again (2021), and her holiday album I Dream Of Christmas (2021)—as well as albums with her collective bands The Little Willies, El Madmo, and Puss N Boots featuring Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper.

Norah Jones has been a steady voice of warmth and reassurance since her cozy 2002 debut album Come Away With Me , which marked its 20th Anniversary in 2022 with a Super Deluxe Edition, became a familiar musical companion for millions of people around the world.

The 2010 compilation …Featuring Norah Jones showcased her incredible versatility by collecting her collaborations with artists as diverse as Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters, Outkast, and Herbie Hancock. In 2018, Jones began releasing a series of singles including collaborations with artists and friends such as Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Thomas Bartlett, Tarriona Tank Ball, Rodrigo Amarante, and Brian Blade, some of which were compiled on the 2019 singles collection Begin Again.

Jones recently launched her own podcast Norah Jones Is Playing Along , each episode of which features her sitting down with one of her favourite musicians for impromptu musical collaborations and candid conversation.

Live Review: Norah Jones – 16th November 2023 – Royal Festival Hall, London, UK

norah jones tour 2023 uk

Over the course of 10 days, the capital plays host to one of the finest series on the musical calendar – the EFG London Jazz Festival. While the streets of London may be starting to frost over, fans from around the world are flocking to the city to catch one of the most diverse and intriguing line-ups of the festival in some years with not just superstars of the worlds Jazz genre finding a place in the programme, but also an array of incredible homegrown talent. But it’s been New York megastar Norah Jones that has really created an additional buzz about this years event.

Much like Shania Twain wove pop music into her country penning’s to make the genre intertwine within the world of mainstream pop, Norah Jones could easily be credited as doing something slightly similar for Jazz around the same time – she made it cool to love. Having celebrated the 20 th anniversary of her record breaking, independently released debut album, Come Away With Me last year, Jones has been playing venues the width and breadth of the UK this month including a recent sold out performance at the London Palladium. The 9-time Grammy winning icon of piano and voice has treated fans to her impressive catalogue of hits and so we were so excited to be invited along to catch the petite superstar play this show as part of the Jazz Festival – as were the 2,700 over fans that helped mark this show as yet another sell out performance for the New Yorker.

It was an early start and an early finish for the nights set as Norah was ushered on stage at just shy of 8.30pm, following her 3-piece backing band consisting of bass/double bass, percussion and guitar maestros that were so skilled at their instruments that they would each get their own applauses at various points throughout the show. Over just under 90 minutes we were taken through a delicate and mesmerizing journey of songwriting masterpieces that have helped shape Jones’ 20+ year career as both a solo superstar as well as a member of one of the various bands she plays in back home in the US; the singer giving a shout out to her bandmates Catherine Popper and Sasha Dobson of Puss N Boots back in the Big Apple as she went through an upbeat rendition of Don’t Know What It Means .

Opening the show with My Heart Is Full from her 2018 Begin Again compilation and a swaying performance of I’m Alive , it wasn’t long before she took us into mainstream waters with Feels Like Home number, What Am I to You? As Jones sat at her piano wearing loose black pants and a green jacket with a glittery head of a cat emblazoned on the back, the lighting of the stage transformed into shades of red and orange and the singer swayed into a beautiful performance of Sunrise . The crowd were transfixed to the singers skilled and delicate vocals, hanging off each and every word of the Feels Like Home hit.

A slide guitar and double bass complimented most numbers within the set, adding a slightly country feel to numbers like Flame Twin from the singers most recent 2020 studio record, Pick Me Up Off the Floor .  Even Jones showed off her multi-instrumental talents as she moved around the stage throughout the set, picking up either one of many electric guitars or an acoustic guitar when she wasn’t standing at her keyboard or dominating her grand piano.

norah jones tour 2023 uk

As Jones showcased her amazing songwriting talents, is was very clear to see just why she has become an icon of her genre and why she holds so many musical accolades for her work in the industry. Her effortless yet pristine vocals swept over the silent crowd who just watched in awe as she ran through a patchwork of career achievements one by one as she gave a nod to each of her half dozen studio albums during the course of the set.

While discussions with the audience were kept to a minimum, those moments where there were interactions proved quite humorous. At one point in the set Jones introduced her band, allowing for the crowd to give their applause, and after her introduction of them she simply said, in a casual tone “and I’m Norah”, as if she considered herself the most unimportant musician on stage. She later went on to tell of her interaction with a customs offer at Heathrow Airport describing “we got a request for this song…actually it was more like a threat”, with a cheeky grin to the crowd before we were treated to a performance of Chasing Pirates which further showed off her pristine and pitch-perfect vocals.

Little moments like this were dotted throughout the night and gave a genuine feeling of a superstar that was down to earth and humbled to be playing to her fans.

It will always, of course, be songs that catapulted the singer into the world of mainstream success that would peak the audiences interest most of all and that was evident last night, and that was blatantly evident not by any rapturous applause or standing ovations (though there were several of both as well as a few song requests and even a marriage proposal thrown out from the audience), but from the still silence of a crowd that were listening so intently to the performance. As soon as the opening chords to the musicians signature hits Come Away With Me and closing number Don’t Know Why were played and the colour of the velvet curtain behind the stars performance being turned into a hazy shade of cool blue, we were taken right back to 2002 and that exceptional 27 million selling debut LP and its sheer brilliance – a brilliance that capped the night off perfectly as they bowed to the crowd for another incredible UK performance.
