What Does A New The Grand Tour Trailer Show?

Amazon Prime has unveiled the first trailer for a new special episode of the auto show The Grand Tour , which will focus on the host's journey to Scotland during the coronavirus pandemic. The title of the episode is "Lochdown." The trailer first appeared on TikTok and later on YouTube.

As usual, there will be a lot of cars, funny situations, jokes, and discussions surrounding the automotive market. The hosts of the show chose classic American cars of the '70s for transport. Judging by the trailer, they are not always ideal for traveling around Scotland.

What's Known About The New 'The Grand Tour' Season?

The video also showed how the heroes are trying to cross a huge lake by car using a makeshift bridge. The episode was filmed in the fall of 2020. Everything was filmed over 10 days, during which around £50,000 was spent on coronavirus tests for the film crew.

The fourth season of The Grand Tour will be exclusively a one-hour series. The premiere is scheduled for July 30. Last time, the episode was released a day ahead of schedule , so fans will be eagerly checking out the new episode on July 29.

Earlier, the heroes went on a boat trip to the Mekong Delta, and also visited Madagascar in search of pirate treasures.

The concept behind The Grand Tour is simple. The show combines places where gearheads would like to drive and visit, while doing so in notable modes of transport. This is where the name of the show comes from. Once, Grand Tour was the name of trips on luxury carriages, then on comfortable cars. Also, the hosts are good at creating funny situations. For example, in one of the plots, Clarkson is moving the car in which Hammond is sleeping. In another, Jeremy is driving in a bulletproof vest while May shoots him.

The "spiky building" Clarkson suggests visiting with Hammond - supposedly the site of the fictitious town of Hammondsburg - is in real life Taigh Mòr, which in English means "Big House". The well-appointed Edwardian mansion boasted running water piped in from North Uist as well as fireplaces in every room. It was built in 1905 for Scottish textile manufacturer, historian and landscape photographer Erskine Beveridge, one of the heirs to the estate of an internationally-renowned tableware manufacturer. After his passing in 1920, the property was inherited by his son George, who drowned in 1944 while attempting to make the crossing from North Uist to Vallay at high tide. With no heirs, the mansion was abandoned soon after his death and its staff dismissed. In the three-quarters of a century since it has gradually become a ruin, and its story has been documented by Scottish-Indian writer, musician and academic Arun Sood, whose grandmother Katie MacNaughton was one of the last to leave the island.

The Grand Tour returns with new special featuring 1970s American luxo-barges

It looks like a good portion of this Lochdown special surrounds a trio of cars, including a Cadillac De Ville, Lincoln Continental and Buick Riviera.

grand tour scotland american cars

Clarkson, Hammond and May are back, and for this latest special of Amazon Prime Video's  The Grand Tour , things stick closer to home. Lochdown, as it's called, was filmed amid the pandemic and features a grand road trip through Scotland in machines from across the Atlantic: 1970s American luxury cars. Lovingly, we'll call them land yachts. The thought of driving a Cadillac De Ville, Lincoln Continental or Buick Riviera on thin, windy UK roads sounds terrifying, if I'm being honest.

Nevertheless, The Grand Tour Lochdown puts the former Top Gear guys on the road in these machines, and plenty of stunts show up in the new trailer. It looks like we're in for track time with these giant cars, close calls as the three travel narrow roads in elongated machines and the typical slew of outlandish hijinks we expect from the show.

At some point, it does look like the trio swap their floaty rides for more hardcore vehicles. There's a vintage Chevrolet Camaro, what looks like a Ford Shelby Mustang and a Plymouth Superbird, too.

Have a look at the trailer above before the new special launches on Amazon Prime Video on July 30.

The Grand Tour: Lochdown review – Clarkson, May and Hammond drive Scotland out of the union

The patriarchy’s Cheeky Girls bumble their way through a bants-filled Highlands holiday, leaving carnage – and surely a spike in support for Scottish independence – in their wake

I had high hopes for this diplomatic incident masquerading as a TV travelogue through Scotland. Fingers crossed, patriarchy’s answer to Katie Hopkins and the Cheeky Girls would get chucked out of Scotland just as they were from Argentina while filming Top Gear. During that 2014 debacle , Jeremy Clarkson , James May and Richard Hammond were attacked for driving a Porsche whose number plate – H982 FKL – was deemed a reference to Britain’s victory in the 1982 Falklands conflict. In the resulting unpleasantness, the three presenters took a helicopter to safety, like the last chopper out of Saigon, leaving the crew to defend that oxymoron, British honour.

Indeed, there is surely nothing more apt to make Nicola Sturgeon unleash the ancestral claymore than the sight of three English muppets in gas-guzzling Yank tanks (Lincoln Continental, Cadillac Coupe de Ville and Buick Riviera, each more productive of Greta Thunberg’s tears than a cormorant with its beak stuck in a can of Irn-Bru) heading north from Berwick-upon-Tweed.

As soon as the convoy passed the border, the scripted bants began. “Welcome to McScotland,” said Clarkson into his walkie talkie, while May and Hammond cackled like fiftysomething Beavis and Butt-Heads in their vehicles. Why the McPlods (oh dear, this is catching) didn’t ticket the infantilised Murdoch lackey for driving while using a handheld device is beyond me. Presumably, normal rules of the road were waived for this Amazon production, which is not something I imagine the first minister signing off on. If Donald Trump can build golf resorts in Aberdeenshire and Clarkson can roll through the majestic Highlands babbling anti-Scottish slurs and manifold fatuities, clearly her powers to stymie toxic middle-aged man-babies realising their unedifying dreams need enhancing.

The Grand Tour: Lochdown.

PG Wodehouse once claimed it was not hard to tell the difference between a Scotsman with a grievance and a sunbeam. May embellished this theme, suggesting that Scottish police officers never have occasion to say “You’re nicked, sunshine” because – do you see the punchline yet? – there is no sun in Scotland. To be fair, the permadrizzle was unrelenting.

And then there were the meals, prepared by May, in which every item from kipper to carrot was battered. That said, Clarkson cleared his plate and Hammond hailed Scottish culinary genius for congealing peas, so tricky to eat with a fork, into battered clumps.

As a white, increasingly desiccated middle-aged Englishman, I should be in The Grand Tour’s demographic. But I’d rather read Iris Murdoch than watch Clarkson’s belly shot in profile wobbling from Auchtermuchty to Drumnadrochit in sync with the undulating terrain (proof that spending one’s career on, effectively, a series of La-Z-Boys on wheels is deleterious to one’s posture). If I were a middle-aged Scotsman, I’d have been further affronted by the carnage wrought on my homeland. Let’s review: three wrecked caravans, one left unacceptably in a wooded glen; the appalling fumes; the walls in Edinburgh’s old town; the boat sunk off the Hebrides; a pontoon bridge left bobbing off North Uist. None of the trio spoke to a Scottish person on screen, demonstrating, once again, how tourism narrows the English mind.

But what would have narked me most of all if I were Scottish was that my country was here busted down to an away venue for a proxy war between the US and the Soviet Union. Which of these two polities was responsible for manufacturing the worst car known to humankind, Clarkson asked. Oh, obviously the Soviets, you reply. Have you ever tried to put a Lada through hairpin? Of course you haven’t, because the Queen Mary has a tighter turning circle.

In truth, Clarkson was right about one thing in his life: the worst car in the world is American. In a field, six cars including two Chryslers and a Pontiac Aztek raced in circles in a kind of ground-based balloon race cum demolition derby. The loser would be the first car to crash out. It was the Pontiac (a car so terrible it figured in Breaking Bad as Walter White’s ride of choice to show what a loser he was) that was proven – scientifically, mind – to be the world’s worst car.

As the credits rolled, there was time to reflect on the show’s genius. Its success will be measured not by ratings, but by a spike in support for Scottish independence. It makes the SNP’s case more powerfully than Boris Johnson on a meet and greet in Sauchiehall Street. Watching this, Sturgeon must be laughing harder than she did during the England-Italy penalty shootout. Way to break up the union, you McPlums.

Fans of The Grand Tour have been clamouring for months to find out when the most recent special will air.

Filmed during lockdown after the pandemic put paid to plans to film in Russia, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond were spotted driving around the Highlands in American muscle cars.

Now, it seems fans of the hit show will finally get to see what the trio has been up to on their adventures in "MacScotland" as Clarkson calls it, with the much anticipated special streaming on Amazon Prime from today.

So what can GT fans expect from the new Scotland special?

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are back in the new Grand Tour special

Where can fans watch The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown?

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on July 30 from midnight GMT, meaning fans can watch it now.

Those with a subscription to the streaming can watch now, while those without will need to subscribe to a 30-day free trial on the streaming platform, with membership costing £7.99 per month after.

What can fans expect from the new special?

Starting out on what promises to be the "most beautiful drive they have ever done", as expected from these three the trip quickly descends into chaos.

Taking Classic American cars from the 70s (and their childhood) as their inspiration, the new tour sees them behind the wheels of a Cadillac Coupe de Ville, a Lincoln Continental and a Buick Riviera.

May was pictured driving the Cadillac, while Hammond was in the Buick, and Clarkson was seen behind the wheel of a Lincoln.

The cast and crew apparently even had their own Covid-19 testing centre van for added safety on set.

Clarkson, 61, recently described the new mini-special as "an unplugged album", adding that it's a change of pace that "some people might quite like".

Speaking to PA he said: "People have been saying that my farming programme - because it's so gentle and down to earth and local - is better for it. So maybe they'll think the same of this Grand Tour."

What parts of Scotland will we see?

Beginning their journey in Berwick-upon-Tweed, they then head to the capital, before stopping off at places such as the picturesque Glentruim and Perthshire.

They then boarded their cars onto a Calmac ferry on their way to North Uist where the adventure finished up.

What did they get up to for the Lochdown Special?

The mischievous trio can be seen hitting the race track, driving over floating bridges (which they built themselves) and crashing caravans.

But it isn't long before Hammond is sinking boats, May is getting stuck and Clarkson is up to no good.

As Clarkson recently quipped: "When we're all three together, everything goes wrong."

It's the kind of high jinks fans expect from the three, and is sure to whet their appetite for the arrival of the third special in the Amazon hit show's fourth series.

How did shooting during the pandemic affect the show?

It's been reported that producers spent £50,000 on coronavirus tests on the ten-day shoot, while bosses at an Outer Hebrides hotel were forced to defend the show's stars following rumours of an 'after party' at their Benbecula accommodation which would have been in breach of coronavirus guidelines at the time.

James May told the RadioTimes.com that the shoot was still great fun, adding: " I mean we had to COVID proof everything, which meant the whole process was not very spontaneous at times,

"Often you have to disinfect things and the crews had to exist in bubbles, and we had to be two metres away from everybody else – but all this stuff wasn’t that terrible considering."

What's next?

With the current problems with travelling abroad, especially to Russia where they originally planned to shoot, it's now likely that the next release will be the second part of the UK double bill across England and Wales, which was recorded in April 2021 to be streamed later this year.

At the wheel of a Cadillac Coupe De Ville as driven by Elvis, a Lincoln Continental as driven by Jock Ewing of Dallas fame, and a Buick Riviera as piloted by Clint Eastwood, the three hosts take their iconic Detroit machines on a road trip across the stunning scenery of Scotland.

And even though they are on home turf this lockdown journey turns out to be one of their funniest, most action-packed, and most charming adventures in years.

Along the way, they cause chaos on the ancient streets of Edinburgh, enjoy a hilarious, tyre torturing, high octane showdown with Abbie on the racetrack, before heading off to stage an epic Cold War shootout between the worst Soviet and American cars ever made.

They also find themselves homeless in the Highlands after a series of housing-based crash bang wallop catastrophes, but still find time to use classic muscle cars to put an infamous Pizza Express journey to the test.

After receiving a text from Mr Wilman, Richard, James and Jeremy modify their cars and head to the Outer Hebrides for one of their toughest challenges yet.

At the far reaches of Scotland, they must build a homemade floating bridge across the Hebridean sea, capable of supporting them and their massive cars on a perilous journey to their final destination.

Lochdown is the third episode of Season 4 of The Grand Tour . It aired on 30th July 2021.

  • 5 Production
  • 6 Promotion/Marketing

Synopsis [ ]

Did you wonder what this trio were up to during the pandemic? Well, they took some classic American cars and went on a grand tour adventure through the Scottish coastal roads. There are overheated engines, shouting, plenty of tea, and a whole load of classic car chaos.

Teasers [ ]

Andy Wilman shared a teaser of the intro to the Episode on April 16th, 2021. It shows views of Scotland landmarks and more. In addition, a teaser was released on July 14th, 2021 through the show's new TikTok account. This revealed the name of the episode and properly confirmed that it was official.

The Grand Tour Scotland Special Introduction Teased By Executive Producer

The cars used are from America to "show" Scotland what they're missing out on. The American Classic muscle cars were used for the second part of the episode, while the terrible american cars were used in a "Cold War revival".

Summary [ ]

Warning, Spoilers below!

The show starts with gorgeous shots of Scottish landscape. The trio introduce their cars and find out they must travel from Edinburgh to the Outer Hebrides. The trio struggle through the cobbled streets of the city but eventually find their way out. Next, they test their cars against a benchmark time at the Knockhill race track. The trio realise that they can not stay in hotels due to the lockdown, and therefore have to sleep in caravans. As usual, they modify these caravans. However, Hammond and Clarkson destroy their caravans and flood May's one in a prank so they stay the night in a Scottish castle.

The next morning, they switch to classic muscle cars to pay tribute to them. However, wanting to balance out these amazing cars, they showcase the worst in a "recreation" of the Cold War. This is done with a demolition derby of three rubbish cars from the Soviet Union and three from America.

The trio want to find a community that would enjoy the style and flamboyannce of the American cars, embarassing to Europeans. So they drive up to North Uist, but find a body of water in the way. To get over, they build a pontoon-like bridge and reach the American community. However, they are disappointed.

Production [ ]

The episode was filmed in October 2020 over the Scottish Highlands, starting at Edinburgh.

Promotion/Marketing [ ]

For this special, the trio took a different approach to advertising the special's forthcoming release. They pretended as if they had no promotional material (although images were used frequently on their social medias throughout July) and asked the fans to make some images, videos and films to do it instead. This was done through a Twitter Hastag (#Lochdown)

‘Grand Tour – Lochdown’ review: it’s great to be back

T he Grand Tour and the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May recently graced our screens again for the new Grand Tour special, Lochdown’ – an obvious play on the horrific reality we have lived under the last year and a half. It’s great to see them back again, though on a smaller scale this time. But it is no less enjoyable, with a twist ending that’s so true it hurts.

Lochdown is a massive improvement upon the last special, A Massive Hunt  which felt too contrived and scripted for my liking – which was odd as the trio are usually great at hiding the show’s scripted nature. Clarkson’s joke to Hammond about ‘jumping the shark’ in 2013 felt fitting at that point. It was fun and I did enjoy it, and it was visually stunning, but severely lacking.

Lochdown  has salvaged The Grand Tour –  it was much more fun, and the humour and chemistry were back on point. It feels more at home, with the three now over middle-aged idiots romping through Scotland. The special sees Clarkson, Hammond, and May take three classic American cars on a grand tour through Scotland, with the dreary weather you’d expect, as well as destroying American and Soviet cars in typical fashion. There’s no escaping the hulking elephant in the room – the lockdowns and other restrictions we have suffered under, which the title is an obvious play on – which forces Clarkson into his least favourite past-time, caravanning.

However, they do very well at filming an episode that only has a few tongue-in-cheek references to Covid-19, lockdowns, and the rare sighting of the crew in masks. While the title, premise, and production are intrinsically tied up with the misery of a year with Covid-19 and lockdowns, the special does a great job of making light of it and producing an episode that could be mistaken for an old Top Gear episode.

Watching Clarkson get his Lincoln Continental MK V, Hammond his Buick Riviera Boattail, and May his Cadillac Coupe De Ville through the back and beyond of Scotland is pure fun.

Watching Clarkson get his Lincoln Continental MK V, Hammond his Buick Riviera Boattail, and May his Cadillac Coupe De Ville through the back and beyond of Scotland is pure fun. Even the small stuff like getting stuck in the narrow roads of Edinburgh and the natural banter is refreshing to watch. Then, after their time on the test track and realising how heavy and slow their American cars are, Mr Wilman contacts them to inform them about some random virus or something going around and therefore they can’t stay in hotels. He gives them all caravans, much to their obvious delight.

After a hilarious case of Clarkson’s caravan gaining sentience and flying off the road, and Hammond’s falling off the side of the road, we see them go to find the nearest castle – as they interpret the no-hotel rule as not applying to random ‘abandoned’ castles. It does gleefully show the absurdity and unevenness of the rules we’ve had this last year. The humour is back too. Clarkson’s constant and iconic jokes against the Americans are back, not least because the whole premise is about why American cars didn’t catch on in Britain and Europe. However, they do all ponder keeping their cars, sparking a reminiscence about how few cars they keep, such as Hammond’s iconic Oliver. The Scots don’t escape either, with resident cook May, fresh off his cooking programme, serving up breakfast and dinner in the traditional Scottish way of being entirely deep-fried.

Practical jokes are back with Hammond and Clarkson using a fire engine to pump May’s caravan full of water, much to his surprise when it sweeps him off his feet when he nonchalantly opens the door. The dreary weather and jokes about it make this feel like a Top Gear episode of old, as does the classic May angry shout of “CLARKSOOOON” after yet another prank.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May give us a much-needed unadulterated dose of fun in terrible times.

The challenges are good fun, with a muddy competition to see if the Americans or Soviets made the worst cars. Yet for all Clarkson’s hatred of his Chrysler PT Cruiser, he ends up winning and losing. Seeing them struggle over the concept that to win they had to lose reminds me of the Chernobyl challenge. It culminates in a very angry Clarkson winning and therefore losing.

With the final stretch, they realise how foreign their American cars and Hammond’s American conversion, gun and all, is to Britain, so they set off for Wilman’s American enclave in the Outer Hebrides. The gags and banter along the way are great, including Clarkson’s disgust at Hammond taking up golf.

Building a bridge to the American town has another staple of a sinking ship – Hammond really does have an unlucky touch. I’m surprised they managed to make it over the winding and sagging bridge. I expected when they got to the place it would be a typical “and on that bombshell” moment of finding it either didn’t exist or it was a massive disappointment. Instead, expectations subverted, they do arrive, through the magic of editing, at the American paradise – although with an atmosphere reminiscent of the towns in Hot Fuzz and The World’s End . For good reason, something isn’t quite right in this American sports bar. As a final gag, we find out China has already taken over this brand-new community. Quite the open-ended, timely, hilarious, but depressing commentary on the world.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May give us a much-needed unadulterated dose of fun in terrible times. They deftly resurrect the joy of old and give us a special that is simultaneously steeped in the last year and would fit neatly in any of their old series. It’s great to have them back, and I look forward to their next outing!

The Grand Tour Heads To Scotland In Big American Classics

Hammond, May and Clarkson, as usual, look like they're having a good time.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are known for their years on BBC's Top Gear program but since 2016 have been creating shows for Amazon Prime. It started with The Grand Tour . We'd call the first three seasons "inspired" by Top Gear with a live audience segment, a racing segment and a couple pre-shot new car reviews. But in the last year or two the trio has only done special road trip episodes to places like Cambodia and Madgascar. Now they're going to Scotland.

From the official trailer for The Grand Tour: Lochdown (get it? Scotland? Loch Ness?), we can see the boys in giant American sedans . We first see May in a '70s Cadillac Coupe de Ville and Clarkson in '70s Lincoln Mark V. It looks like they're trying to cross a waterway of some sort on a floating bridge. It also looks like Clarkson is up to his old tricks, about to plow into May on the bridge.

Later we see an early-gen Chevy Camaro, Mustang Shelby GT350, and Hammond in a sweet green Buick Riviera. It looks like at some point he installs a blower on the engine and a Superbird-style wing on the back. Then the boys go racing in what looks to be an old Fiat or Russian Lada, piloted by Clarkson and a minivan (Plymouth?) in May's hands.

The special is set to air on July 30 although the filming took place in October 2020. In the meantime, we have Clarkson's Farm to watch. That's an eight-episode miniseries of Clarkson taking over the farm work at his compound in Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, which we can assure you is a real place. After watching the entire run we can say it was enjoyable even for non-car fans. There are a few high-speed shenanigans, but mostly it's Clarkson bumping into things with his massive Lamborghini tractor.

If you've finished that, James May has his Oh Cook show, also on Amazon Prime, as well as Our Man in Japan. We haven't seen those yet but they've both received great reviews. Hammond has been filling his time with his own show called Richard Hammond's Workshop, where he'll be trying to help his two mechanics bring life back to old cars. Hopefully he'll stay away from anything new ( Rimac Nevera ) or anything really fast (dragster) because we know he likes to put the shiny side down sometimes.

Regardless, we'll he happy when these three get back in the saddle again. The old American Top Gear was pretty good. Top Gear without those three was pretty good too. But when Hammond, Clarkson and May get together, despite their obvious flaws, greatness ensues.

This Year's Grand Tour LOCHdown Special Airs July 30th

The boys are back! Driving 70s American Cars through Scotland

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are most renowned for their time at BBC's Top Gear, but they've been making their new series the Grand Tour , for Amazon Prime since 2016, and they're back for this year's special, The Grand Tour: Lochdown, which premieres on July 30.

What We Know About The Grand Tour: Lochdown

The short clip was first uploaded to TikTok, followed by the complete trailer which was eventually released on YouTube a few hours later. As the pandemic broke out last year, the boys were stuck in the UK. As a result, this year's special was shot up north, in Scotland. It was filmed last year during the peak of the coronavirus outbreak in the United kingdom, and they thus couldn't stay in hotels. The answer to this problem was for them to tow a trailer and camp out in the wilderness.

Knowing the specials, we can be certain that they have always been shot in exotic countries such as Namibia, Chile or Vietnam. Over the years, Top Gear and the Grand Tour have taught me more about geography than what I learned back in school.  Jezza drives a fifth-gen Lincoln Continental , Hamster is in a third-gen Buick Riviera , and Captain Slow drives a fourth-generation Cadillac Coupe de Ville .

While it's unfortunate that they couldn't go on an epic foreign adventure owing to continued travel restrictions, the trailer brings back memories of Top Gear's earlier days, when many episodes were filmed in places like Wales and the Yorkshire Dales.

Coming back to the Lockdown special, these large, American land yachts, as one would guess, are not really a great fit for the small roads of the Scottish countryside. Clarkson's Lincoln just about makes it past a stone arch and negotiates a very tight turn in the trailer. The boys can also be seen in the trailer engaging in various pranks, such as hauling and ruining three trailers, trying to put together a temporary bridge across the lake where May gets bogged in, along with making different alterations to their cars.

The trailer also shows us an early-generation Chevy Camaro , a Shelby Mustang GT350 , and a beautiful green Buick Riviera with a  Superbird-style wing on the rear. The guys then race in what appears to be a vintage Fiat or Russian Lada.

Jeremy is seen at one point fruitlessly attempting to fix his Lincoln as Hammond and May laugh at his incompetence to undertake this kind of physical work. Lochdown appears to be a funny excursion through some spectacular landscapes, which is what the Grand Tour crew excels at bringing us every year. I Can't wait for it. Watch out for the Grand Tour Lochdown special that airs exclusively on Amazon Prime later this month.

The Grand Tour Scotland: Clarkson And Co Modify Their American Cars For Drag Racing

With The Grand Tour currently filming in Scotland for the episode following the Madagascar Special , We’ve been keen to keep an eye out for any fan-shot videos that elude to what Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May are up to. In a recent video, it looks as though the trio have ditched their modified caravans and instead taken to modifying their three American cars.

As you can see from the video above, The Grand Tour hosts have carried out some quite serious modifications. James May has added side-exit exhausts to his red Cadilac with a photo of someone over the rear wheel, Jeremy Clarkson has swapped out his stock wheels for much larger examples with tyre lettering saying that we can’t quite make out, but we believe they’re Radial drag tyres, and James May’s green Buick looks like it’s been supercharged with a large air intake protruding from the bonnet. On top of that, he’s added a huge Daytona-like wing made famous by the Dodge Daytona stock car. In this colour, however, it looks more like something out of Thunderbirds.

Rumours suggest that they will be taking these three cars drag racing, so the performance upgrades that we see here in this video are worthy attempts at squeezing more performance out of these three cars.

While the trio continues filming for the next episodes of The Grand Tour, fans are still left waiting for the next episode which is reportedly edited and ready to be released . After many setbacks caused by the global pandemic, we’re now waiting for Amazon to press the big red button and publish the episode to its streaming service, but we have no idea when this may be. Recently however, Alexa has stated that the next episode will be released on December 11th. You can read more about that here.

Richard Hammond in The Grand Tour season 4 episode 3

  • The Grand Tour Scotland special release date is July 30 on Prime Video
  • Filmed in Scotland during lockdown because of COVID-19 restrictions
  • The Grand Tour season 4 episode 3 comes 7 months after episode 2

The Grand Tour will return on July 30, Amazon Prime Video has announced, with a new trailer for “The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown”, the third feature-length special part of The Grand Tour season 4. In it, the former Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May get in classic American cars and take off for Scotland. For those wondering why they aren't in a more non-British exotic place — such as Cambodia/ Vietnam for episode 1, or Madagascar for episode 2 — that's because The Grand Tour's Scotland special was shot filmed during the COVID-19 lockdown. Hence the pun “Lochdown” in the title, referencing the Irish word for lake — and the famous Loch Ness.

Still, May promises “the most beautiful drive we have ever done” in the two-and-a-half-minute long trailer for The Grand Tour season 4 episode 3 “Lochdown”. And you can't argue with that, given the sneak peek at the vistas that we see in The Grand Tour Scotland special trailer. Of course, things are not going to be smooth sailing. Their classic (read: old) cars will naturally give them a lot of trouble, be it boiling engines or the struggles of getting out of them. Or just even basic turning abilities. The “Lochdown” trailer reveals that Clarkson, Hammond, and May will also keep switching cars throughout the new The Grand Tour episode.

And what are they up to? As Clarkson says in The Grand Tour Scotland special trailer, they have to build a bridge to ...somewhere in Outer Hebrides. The “Lochdown” trailer ends with May's car stuck on said bridge, with Clarkson about to use his patented use-all-the-power strategy to give him a push. You know, as well as I do, how's that going to go. Elsewhere, there's Hammond crashing his RV (expected), playing pranks on someone else's RV (what can go wrong?), and being applauded by Clarkson, May, and the masked crew for doing something stupid, it seems.

After airing 38 episodes across three seasons between 2016 and 2019, The Grand Tour has really slowed down its production as it has moved away from the hybrid studio and outdoors format. Amazon has expanded its deal with the trio, which includes new solo shows (Our Man in Japan for May, Clarkson's Farm for Clarkson, and The Great Escapists for Hammond). Starting with season 4 , The Grand Tour is now only about feature-length specials. The first of them, “Seamen” aired in December 2019, followed by the second “A Massive Hunt” in December 2020.

Here's the official synopsis for The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown from Amazon :

Confined to the UK by Covid, Jeremy, Richard and James embark on a Lockdown Special to celebrate the great 70s American cars they saw in TV shows as kids, and to find out just why it was, given their Dads were all driving terrible Austin Allegros, that these amazing vehicles never took off in Britain. And even though they are on home turf this lockdown journey turns out to be one of their funniest, most action packed and most charming adventures in years. Along the way they cause chaos on the ancient streets of Edinburgh, enjoy a hilarious, tyre torturing, high octane showdown with Abbie on the racetrack, before heading off to stage an epic Cold War shootout between the worst Soviet and American cars ever made.

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown premieres July 30 on Prime Video worldwide. The previous episode released a day early so I'd keep an eye on the app from July 29.
