Daniel Caesar left NZ off his Down Under tour dates, but here's how we can get him to come

Kia ora e te whānau!

If you don't know - now you know: Daniel Caesar is bringing his 'Superpowers World Tour' to this side of the world, but not here in Aotearoa - he literally just skipped us this time :(

He announced his 'Australia, Asia & Hawaii' dates last week, but there was no mention of Aotearoa to be found!

I've been out here patiently waiting with a huge hope that he'd drop some NZ dates, but look, it's already been 9 days... so I am taking this matter into my own hands.

But I can't do this on my own, so I'm asking YOU to join me in this waka of bringing Daniel Caesar's 'Superpowers World Tour'.

Daniel Caesar's official website allows us to request a show at a city/ country if it's not on his tour list yet: so that's exactly what all of us will be doing!

So here's a quick easy step-by-step process to request him and get Daniel Caesar to do a show here!

1. Click on this direct  LINK HERE  ( a link found on his official website).

2. Add your email address, your first name and add the city - Auckland, New Zealand and hit next.

3. A code will be sent to your email, and now you just have to add your code!

And that's it - you've submitted a request to Daniel Caesar.

daniel caesar tour nz

It will literally take about 38 seconds - trust me, I've tested it.

Get your friends and whānau to do it and I reckon we could make this happen - LITERALLY EVERY REQUEST COUNTS!

In case you needed any more convincing, here's the likely set list:

Daniel Caesar's setlist:

  • Toronto 2014
  • Disillusioned
  • Do You Like Me?
  • Japanese Denim
  • Please Do Not Lean
  • Pain Is Inevitable
  • Shot My Baby
  • Superpowers

Yup, new songs as well as songs from his older albums and EPs.

Now IMAGINE hearing this live - how gooooood!

This could be us Daniel, but you're not touring here...

Daniel Caesar kicks off his show with an absolute tune 'Ocho Rios', followed by one of my favourite songs from his latest album Never Enough -  'Let Me Go'.

Imagine the nostalgia of singing 'Japanese Denim' and 'Best Part' back to back, word for word with everyone in the place.

I am really bad with lyrics, but I have jammed these songs with my cousin so much that I know every word! He could hand me the mic over for H.E.R.'s part at the show and I could sing it all.

His last show in the U.S. is today (19.10.23), and the next show is directly in Melbourne, Australia next month on November 25! There's a month and week between those two dates, surely he could pop in NZ before his Aussie tour, do a show here, and then continue his scheduled tour?

Thank YOU in advance!   Here's the LINK.

Daniel Caesar never disappoints lyrically, musically everythingly lol. I saw him perform at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta and I was blown away. Koffee's performance surprised me as his opening act only because I had no idea she was touring with him. She's amazing and I'm so happy he chose to tour with her all while she is blowing up Jamaica with her authentic, organic onstage presence. Now back to Daniel. Omg he is so spontaneous and he doesn't follow the norm. As he graced the stage with his performance, he opened with two of my favorite songs...I was like omg i thought i'd have to wait until the end of the show. I was sipping on a rum and coke and it made the performance magically pierced my inner soul. He is in total real form and has the most beautiful voice when he sings live. Yes, he can actually sing. Halfway thru the show he sits in a stool and played the guitar - omg I fell in love all over again. If i had the time and money I would travel to every venue so I could recreate the moments I experienced at his concert. He is so talented and gifted. I wish him all the success in the world!

I saw Daniel Caesar live on January 31st, 2018 in Paris, in a nightclub called Yoyo and it was incredible! The setlist included "We'll always have Paris", Daniel dedicated it to the crowd and to his "Praise Break" (eg his first project) fans which was so thoughtful. His band was out of this world, they were all extremely talented and an incredible mash-up of Get You and Best Part appeared at the end of the concert and really was the epitome of it. His voice sounded just like on the album, it was just pure raw talent. I highly recommend seeing him if he comes to your town!

An absolutely breathtaking talent.

The concert started with a little delay of around 10 minutes, which isn’t that bad. He performed new and old songs and plus since it was his last concert in the European leg of the tour, he sang more than in other cities. Amazing vocals and his back singers are wonderful as well! The audience in Madrid was very active, singing along all the song (except for one new that he performed and btw it’s beautiful).

I would definitely recommend going to see him if you like this type of music.

I loved every moment of that night. Absolutely one of my favorite concerts ever. The lighting and visuals were stunning and set the vibe for the entire show perfectly. Definitely an even bigger fan of Daniel after this concert. Much respect for him; he sounds exactly like the recording, if not better. I enjoyed how the venue was outdoors as well. It was a fun, open, an cozy environment for a concert that matched its energy. My only complaint is that the whole experience felt way too short. 11/10 would go to another show of his.

Daniel Caesar is without a doubt an underrated artist. His voice and his lyrics are out of this world and it was amazing to see that the french crowd recognized it. The concert started with some of the best tracks of his latest album. However, Daniel did not miss melodies from previous phases and delighted the crowd with his most successful singles, Get you and Best part. Back up vocals and his band also performed amazingly. Thankfully he came back for an encore. Still the crowd wanted more, but overall it was a great show.

Multiple problems. The tickets said 6.30 for everyone, but then we were forced to wait an hour outside. When we got in, the worst dj in the world played. Then, when Daniel Caeser finally got on, the sound system was so bad you couldnt hear him and the singing was mediocre. Looking back at videos the singing sounds better than it was. The dj played more than Daniel and I just wanted the night to end. Guess I got what I paid for, £12.

eleonoraleemhuis’s profile image

Daniel sounds exactly the same live, tickets were an extremely good price. He sang every song off his album, which I was very happy about. I just wish he had backing singers to emphasise his songs that had gospel vocals in the background. I also would have preferred an opening artist that sings rather than a DJ to set the vibe of the concert.

I would see again!

Pbxndii’s profile image

He had a pop-up show he announced 2 hours before it started and I swear I've never rushed so fast to get somewhere. His voice is angelic, knows how to intrigue a crowd and overall it was amazing. Even people just walking by had to stop and listen till he was done. Wonderful experience can't wait to see him again this December.

Nami.713’s profile image

the support act had the same vibe to daniel's music so was a fitting artist. the music sounded incredible live, and the musicians with the background singers made everything come together. even though i sat far back, i could see everything on stage clearly. one of the best nights .

Incredible.

Daniel's voice, his personality, the lyrics... he's truly a full package. One of the most genuine artists I've seen in a while.

He (and his band!!!!!) absolutely killed it. Looking forward to seeing them again when I'm back in the states for a full concert.

Daniel Caesar - Auckland Arts Festival 2018

Grammy Award-nominated R&B artist Daniel Caesar is coming to New Zealand for the first time, exclusively for the Auckland Arts Festival in March.

The 22-year-old Toronto native launched his musical career in 2014, releasing R&B & soul songs bathed in ambient electronics. He rose to fame after the release of his EP Praise Break in 2014, which was ranked in the 20 Best R&B Albums of 2014 by Rolling Stone Magazine. It was followed by Pilgrim’s Paradise in 2015, which was met with even greater praise, subsequently capturing the attention of both the Canadian and international music markets.

His latest release, Freudian which, along with receiving stellar reviews, has been nominated for Best R&B album and Best R&B performance (Get You) in the 60th annual Grammy Awards, to be announced in February. He was acknowledged twice on Barack Obama’s favourite songs of 2017 and his other fans include Stevie Wonder, Liam Gallagher, Chance the Rapper, Shawn Mendes among many others.

Caesar’s full catalogue has garnered over 160 million global streams on Apple Music and over 200 million streams on Spotify.

The world has come to understand R&B/Soul music as a multi-faceted genre that transcends soundwaves into the inner core of our existence — a genre that makes listeners feel, rather than just hear. For Caesar, the genre serves as a foundation he builds with gospel nuances, heart-tugging guitar chords and soothing, harmonious vocals.

Conveying moody anecdotes about life’s most pertinent lessons – love, loss, faith, desire and determination – Caesar, born Ashton Simmonds and the son of gospel singers, tells a coming-of-age tale that is not only relatable, but genuine.

Caesar’s one-night-only stop-off in Auckland is Friday 16 March and the magic happens at the Festival Playground in Silo Park.

ABOUT DANIEL CAESAR

Multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Daniel Caesar is on a journey of self-actualization. He’s built his name across the gamut of contemporary R&B—contemplative soul and evocative rock to intergalactic alternative and understated pop—with artistry at his core. One of the most critically and commercially successful artists today—he’s one of the Top 10 most-streamed Canadian artists of all time on Spotify with over 20 million monthly listeners on the platform and 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube—he’s ready to elevate his artistry in 2023 and beyond. His 2017 debut,  Freudian , was released independently and was a R&B breakthrough, bolstered by the 5x-platinum “Best Part” [feat. H.E.R.] and 3x-platinum “Get You” [feat. Kali Uchis]. Daniel received a GRAMMY® Award for “Best R&B Performance ”  for the former, and the b-side “Blessed” was featured on President Barack Obama’s annual favorites playlist. 2019’s follow up,  CASE STUDY 01  [featuring John Mayer, Brandy, and Pharrell Williams], debuted at number 17 on the  Billboard  Top 200. His first number one hit on the  Billboard  Hot 100 came two years later with Justin Bieber’s megahit “Peaches” [featuring Giveon], amassing billions of streams. 2022’s “Please Do Not Lean” has garnered nearly 70 million global streams to date and received critical acclaim from across the globe, including a “Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year” Juno Awards nomination. In 2023, he returned with a slew of singles, “Do You Like Me?,” “Let Me Go,” and “Valentina,” which set the tone for his new album  NEVER ENOUGH , out now.

Daniel Caesar has announced the third leg of his “Superpowers World Tour,” expanding it to Australia, Asia, and Hawaii. Australia and Hawaii tickets are available for general onsale starting Friday, October 13 at 10am local time.

Tickets for the Asian tour dates will go on-sale with different timelines per market. In Taipei, general onsale is Wednesday, October 18 at 12pm CST. In Seoul, general onsale begins Thursday, October 19 at 12pm KST. In Bangkok, general onsale starts Monday, October 30 at 10am ICT. For Tokyo, general onsale begins Saturday, November 18 at 10am JST.

The first two legs of the sold-out North American tour offered a unique look at Daniel’s artistry and singular vision. For the first few songs of each show, he performed behind a sheer white curtain, adding a celestial quality to the performance. As a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, he took full command of the stage, offering the tens of thousands of attendees piano ballads and guitar solos with a stripped-down quality, yet almost otherworldly precision.

Jeremih & Mick Schultz Revisit The Smash Single “Birthday Sex”

The set design displayed raw camera footage of fans singing along and his band entering and exiting the stage at each show. His ability to effortlessly switch between genres, from the sultry R&B of “Get You” to the gospel-infused “Blessed,” is remarkable and puts his versatility on full display.

The tour follows on the heels of his highest-charting album to date, NEVER ENOUGH , which debuted at No.2 on Billboard Top R&B Albums Chart and Top 15 on Billboard 200 Chart upon release and maintained his status as one of Spotify’s top 200 streamed artists worldwide.

Album highlights include “Always,” which continues to dominate Billboard Hot R&B and Adult R&B Airplay charts. NEVER ENOUGH is an examination of Daniel’s insatiable perfectionism and juxtaposes his self-scrutiny in relationships with his characteristically reassuring vocals.

The project was recorded in part in Canada, New York, London, and Los Angeles, and the concept was largely conceived in France. He cites the hero’s journey in Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist as a major influence. NEVER ENOUGH was produced in part by Raphael Saadiq and Daniel’s brother Zachary Simmonds.

Live Review: Daniel Caesar "Superpowers World Tour"

As the glowing lights dimmed at Hollywood Bowl, fans anticipated what was on the way. At approximately 9:26 PM on September 22, 2023, murmured conversations transformed into screaming matches over a live video feed of Daniel Caesar as he walked onstage. The anxious energy that flooded the venue was enormously heightened with a point-of-view shot. He graced the crowd with a look back into the camera, causing concert attendees to scream louder (and a few octaves higher), before reaching the main stage. Despite Caesar being known for his slow soulful rhythms, a wild excitement still filled the Bowl. There he was, in all of his glory; Daniel Caesar had arrived.

Tears were shed as audience members hugged and swayed from side to side, hearing the first lyrics come out of Daniel's mouth: "In the nick of time, that's when you appeared." He opened up the show with "Ocho Rios", a song from his latest album, Never Enough .

"In the nick of time, that's when you appeared."

Instantly, you could hear microphone feedback of screaming fans from the floor section, both of which remained ongoing throughout the show. Whether on the floor or in higher sections, viewers shared a natural rush and undying love for their favorite artist.

Caesar stepped out in a monochromatic grey outfit: a short sleeve hoodie and long shorts that just passed his knees. His whole set matched perfectly with his "master of discretion" aesthetic as concertgoers viewed very minimal shots of the front of his face. Backed by an entire band, Caesar's set lit up with many alternating grey, blue, black, and white tones. Smoke and strobe lights created dream-like effects, which corresponded to each song's lyrics.

Daniel Caesar performed songs from Case Study 01, Freudian, Never Enough, Acoustic Break, Pilgrim's Paradise, and Praise Break. Songs from Never Enough ranked first, with the majority of the songs performed coming from the album.

From Case Study 01 he performed "Cyanide", "Enthropy", "Open Up", and "Superpositon". Out of the three, "Superposition" was the only unplanned song of the concert. Right before singing, Caesar stated, "this is the part where I decide on the fly what I'm going to do". Fans experienced a surprise acoustic rendition of the track, much to their delight.

From Freudian , he performed "Best Part", "Get You", and "Loose". Since "Best Part" and "Get You" feature artists H.E.R. and Kali Uchis, Caesar relied on the audience to sing their parts. They delivered, even performing the ad-libs, which acted as another humorous aspect of the interactive crowd. During "Best Part", the big screen switched from footage of Daniel Caesar to pans and close-ups of the audience. The twenty-somethings in the crowd beamed while singing along, a couple snuck in kisses, and others shielded their weeping faces out of embarrassment. While he performed "Get You", the artist interacted with the audience, singing: "who would've thought I'd get you?" He asked, "oh yeah?" as a question, which prompted the audience to reply, "oh yeah, babe". During "Loose", the stage lights went dark and a piano arrived front and center. A single spotlight illuminated Caesar's silhouette from above.

"Los Angeles, I'm not lying to you when I say this... this may be the best show of my entire life, I love you guys," Caesar admitted. The crowd went berserk as he reassured every person in the crowd that the concert affected him as much as it had them. He spoke as if history was being made with every second of the performance.

As the show reached the beginning of its end, Caesar performed "Always" from the Never Enough LP. The audience sang and swayed in a simultaneous trance, all while staying in perfect harmony. The star strutted off stage after completing the song; little did the audience know that this was the last time they would see Daniel Caesar in the show. With the dim lights a perfect cue, the anxious crowd began to understand the situation. Caesar performed "Streetcar" as an encore backstage–the same way the concert began–through a live feed on a handheld camera. The phenomenal show, sadly, came to an end.

Daniel Caesar's connection with his fans remains unmatched. There is an unspoken understanding between the showman and his audience, making for an absolutely electric show. His lyrical genius regarding yearning and love create an engaging experience unique to each and every fan.

NEVER ENOUGH

Daniel Caesar’s soul-baring debut, 2017’s Freudian, traced his journey of leaving home, finding love and suffering heartache. On its experimental and existential 2019 follow-up, CASE STUDY 01, the Toronto-born singer-songwriter tried to understand the chaos of the world, confronting ideas of life, death, loneliness and God. He’s shown his gift for taking heavy, complex themes and turning them into introspective songs about love, life and everything in between, and they’re just as present on his third album, NEVER ENOUGH. Where CASE STUDY 01 came from a place of anger, and the uncertainty he felt about his career after making some controversial public comments about race at the time, NEVER ENOUGH finds the Apple Music Up Next alum reflecting on those doubts. “It was really aggressively seeking out truth and trying to learn about myself and about the world in which I live, because I want answers,” Caesar tells Apple Music. “That’s the most important thing to me. I think I’ve been dealing, struggling a lot with my desire to know things versus my desire to be liked.” This internal conflict is a constant through line on NEVER ENOUGH, whether he’s navigating his romantic entanglements (“Valentina”, “Buyer’s Remorse”, “Do You Like Me?”) or the heartache that comes along with them (“Let Me Go”, “Always”). It’s all part of his look inward to find himself. On the acoustic track “Toronto 2014”, Caesar reminisces about the happiness he felt before his new-found fame, and his search to get back to that feeling: “If only I could find a way through space-time/Back to when I was happy being me,” he croons. His desire to express himself artistically while staying relevant is challenged on “Pain Is Inevitable” (“Now I’m a product that must a turn a profit/Something to prove I’m a god, I’m a prophet”). “Every day, I remind myself that it’s exactly what I ask for and what I fought for and what I suffered for,” he says. “And there’s always moments where I feel like I’m the victim of this thing, but at the end of the day, it’s completely within my control, and I can just stop at any point.” He also collaborates with artists like Ty Dolla $ign, serpentwithfeet and Raphael Saadiq, who co-produced “Do You Like Me?”. The idea of feeling “never enough” is his constant struggle: trying to balance confidence and insecurity. He deals with his self-doubts on the haunting piano ballad “Cool”, but quickly reaffirms and builds himself up on “Superpowers”. That’s further cemented on the album closer “Unstoppable”, where Caesar challenges his critics, asking, “And who’s gon’ stop me?/I’m unstoppable.”
