Lakshadweep Samudram is a Five-days cruise to visit the islands of Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Minicoy by ship- M.V Kavaratti. Once Schedule is announced: Up to 4 person’s bookings, island getaways take only 50% amount as advance. Balance 50% can be paid on the same day once customer gets the booked confirmed tickets by mail. For bookings with travel dates within 10 days and booking above 4 persons, 100% advance payment has to be made.

How to Book VIP Quota Seats in Samudram Package 2021?

Cost of VIP/ Tatkal Quota ( Diamond class only)  : Rs. 35000/ Adult & Rs. 27000/ Child ( 1-10 years).

Apply with filled application form and 10% Advance. Final chart will be prepared between 60-15 days prior to travel date. If customer gets the confirmation will be intimated once the chart is prepared and has to pay balance 90% amount within next 24 hrs to get the tickets. If customer is not selected after final chart preparation remitted 10% advance will be refunded within next 2 working days.

How to Book Waiting List Seats in Samudram Package 2021?

Some Specially reserved un booked tickets  if any kept by administration will be released to agents quota 10 to 12 days before the travel date. So Customers do have a chance to get such tickets at last moments by registering under waiting list tickets with travel agents. For trying to book for Samudram tickets under Waiting list, customers can register with us with 10% advance payment. If any vacancy comes it will be intimated and tickets can be booked with balance payment on the spot. If we are unable to get the tickets 100% amount will be refunded within 3 working days.

Samudram Package Passengers can avail an LTC/ LTA certificate from SPORTS (Government of India) for an equivalent amount of Rs. 18000 + 5% GST / adult (Rs. 14000+ 5% Tax for kids) for Diamond Class  and Rs. 12000 + 5% GST / adult (Rs. 10000+ 5% Tax for kids) in Gold Class . They can submit with their working company (both private and government) and re reimburse the same amount if the firm gives LTC/ LTA for the employees.

What is the difference between Diamond Class and Gold Class in Samudram Package?

Many passengers ask the same question. Actually, Diamond class refers to the first class cabin in ship with maximum 2 members per cabin. These first class cabins are in 4 th  and 5 th  deck of the ship. Whereas the Gold class refers to the second class cabin in ship with maximum 4 members per cabin. These first class cabins are in 3rd deck of the ship. Both class cabins will have an attached toilet. 84 cabins are available for Diamond class with 168 seats and only 3 cabins with 12 seats are available for Gold class and hence the availability for Gold class will be very tight always. Also Gold class cabins are small and crowded compared to Diamond class. Rest all the package facilities are same for Diamond and Gold classes.

Government employees and their family members traveling on leave can get LTC/ LTA Certificate from the Sports Manager on board. On 2nd day onward in the cruise.

• Tour will be booked subject to availability of berths.

• The total package tariff (subject to revision, without notice) shall include transportation from Cochin by Cruise, embarkation/ disembarkation charges, port charges, food, accommodation, sightseeing, wherever applicable.

Cancellation Policy

• 10% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled 30 days before departure of the ship.
• 25% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled between 29th to 7th days before departure of the ship.
• No refund if cancelled within 7 days before the departure of the ship.

Refund Policy

• 100% refund if the schedule is cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions and/or other unexpected technical faults. No damages/claims will be payable except money paid by them.

Terms & Conditions

• Consumption of liquor is prohibited in Lakshadweep.
• Program / Schedule of ship is liable to be changed / cancelled without prior notice. Ships are operated by Lakshadweep Administration. In case of a change in the ship schedule liability of SPORTS is restricted to transporting the tourists back to Cochin by immediate available conveyance of the ship only.
• Tourists availing LTC may collect LTC certificate from Ship Manager on board at the time of return journey or from our Kochi office on return. Transport and tour change bifurcation is given in the tariff chart.

Kavaratti Island

Location: 10'-33* North Latitude and 72' -38* East Longitude, located 404 kms. from Cochin. It is the headquarters of the U.T Administration since 1964. You have enough time to explore the island. The beautiful calm lagoon forms an ideal spot for water sports, swimming and basking on warm sandy beaches. Marine life exhibits can be seen at the new MARINE AQUARIUM which has excellent collection of specimens.

Do not bother if you are not a good swimmer, we have made viewing the exotic underwater world easier for you through our glass bottomed boats. The Dolphin Dive Center is another attraction for water sports enthusiasts. The Dolphin Dive Center is another attraction for water sports enthusiasts.(Tourists availing 'Taratashi' package to KAVARATI stay in the tourist huts at the tourist complex. One can also visit KAVARATTI in Taratashi packages.) Location: 10'-05* North Latitude and 73'-39* East Longitude, located 287 kms. from Cochin.

It is known for its Scenic beauty and the small islets called Tilakkam and Pitti and an uninhabited island on the north called Cheriyam. A huge shallow lagoon encloses all of them. A peculiar feature of KALPENI atoll is the huge storm bank of coral debris along the eastern and south-eastern shorelines. It is believed that huge boulders were thrown up during a storm in 1847. It is a progressive island. It was in this island that girls first went to school, when women's education was considered a taboo. Here, one can swim, reef-walk or water sport on kayaks, sail boat and pedal boat. A visit to the Baniyan Factory and the Light House is also included in the day's program. Location: 8'-17* North Latitude and 73'-04* east Longitude, located 398 kms. from Cochin.

It is about 10.6 Kms. long: it is the second largest island, the first being ANDROTT. It is the southernmost island in Lakshadweep, crescent shaped and has one of the largest lagoons.

Viringili is the small islet that can be seen on the south. MINICOY is set apart from the northern group of islands by its culture: the islanders are employed as seamen in ocean going vessels the world over.

The island has a systematically arranged village system known as 'Avah'. Each avah is a cluster of houses which is headed by an elected elderly man called Bodukaka. Traditionally all powers to manage village affairs are vested in him.

Each village has a village house beautifully decorated and maintained. Mahl is the spoken language. MINICOY is an important centre for tuna fishing.

The Light House of the island is one of the oldest and was constructed in 1885. One can visit the villages, tuna canning factory, the light house and go for a long drive through dense coconut groves and winding village roads. The beaches have bathing huts and change rooms. So swim and beach walk, Pedal boat, Kayak and Sail. Three Tourist Cottages and a Twenty Bedded Tourist Home have been constructed for the staying tourists.

• All Passengers to hold a valid identity card ( Voters ID / Passport / Driving License)
• The reporting time is 09.30 am. At First Floor, Lakshadweep Wharf, Opp. FCI Gowdon Willingdon Island, Kochi-3
• Covid-19 negativity certificate (RT-PCR) obtained 48 prior to the travel.
• The scheduled ship departure time is 02.00 pm, however the exact time of departure may vary.
• While on the ship, a representative of SPORTS has been specially designated to assist you. In case of any difficulty, please avail of his services.
• Please note that ships cannot dock at the islands. The facility to dock the ship is not available on all islands.
• The passengers will be transferred into boats, which will take them to the island.
• The person availing the ship packages should be in sound health.
• Avoid usage of plastic on the islands.
• Please carry sunscreen lotion, umbrellas, caps, etc. as it may be very hot.
• Carry a first-aid kit as per your family’s requirements.
• Carry your special brand cigarettes, cosmetics etc. for use, as only ordinary varieties are available on the islands.
• Do not litter the land or the water.
• Do not pick up corals as souvenirs. It is a punishable offense.
• Do not carry narcotics or drugs. It is prohibited.
• Do not use alcoholic drink, intoxicants while on the islands and on the ship.
• Swimming or sunbathing un-clothed is strictly prohibited.
• Do not go out of your island lagoon without permission of the SPORTS authorities and without a proper escort - it can be risky.
• Do not pluck tender coconuts yourself. The trees are privately owned and unauthorizedplucking of coconuts is a theft
• For the Weekend, Lakshadweep Samundram and Coral Reef packages – as you will be spending the full day on the island. Please carry some extra clothes / towels for wash and Change, as the facility to wash and change is available on the island.
• It is better to arrive one day prior to departure from Cochin to avoid last minute delays.
• Mobile: - Only BSNL has range on the islands. Kavaratti and Agatti Airtel available.

CANCELLATION POLICY

• 30% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled 30 days before departure of the ship.
• 45% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled between 29th to 10th days before departure of the ship.
• No refund if cancelled within 10 days before the departure of the ship.

REFUND POLICY

• 100% refund if the schedule is cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions and/or other unexpected technical faults. No damages/claims will be payable except MONEY paid by them.
• Consumption of liquor is prohibited in Lakshadweep.
• Program / Schedule of ship is liable to be changed / cancelled without prior notice. Ships are operated by Lakshadweep Administration. In case of a change in the ship schedule liability of SPORTS is restricted to transporting the tourists back to Cochin by immediate available conveyance of the ship only.
• Tourists availing LTC may collect LTC certificate room Manager on board at the time of return journey or from our Kochi office on return. Transport and tour change bifurcation is given in the tariff chart.
• Service tax applicable as per the prevailing Govt. Tax rate.

The Motor Vessel Kavaratti, 700 Passengers cum 200 MT Cargo Vessel built for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Islands.. The all-weather passenger ship, m.v. Kavaratti, built for the Lakshadweep administration by Hindustan Shipyard, Visakhapatnam, will make its maiden voyage to the islands in the first week of August, 2008.The Rs.173-crore ship, the largest passenger vessel ever built in India, is 120 Meter long and has a speed of 17 Knots. The ship can carry 700 passengers and 200 tons of cargo. The ship has world-class facilities like a 152-seater cafeteria, 100-seater dining hall,

Recreation room, gymnasium and a very large airspace to enhance passenger convenience on-board. The ship is fully Air conditioned by centralized air-conditioning system and has been built to world class standards. The ships have cafeteria, snack bars, doctor on call, entertainments and upper-deck promenade. Ship facilities include three independent galleys, halls, recreation place with a swimming pool and a helipad.

The ship has 100 Deluxe First Class Berths (2 Berths in each room) and has 70 Second Class Berths (4 Berths in each room) available for ‘ Samudram Package ‘ for tourists. The ship was designed and built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) located in the port city of Visakhapatnam on the East coast of India. HSL is a fully owned Government of India Undertaking, under the Administrative control of the Ministry of Shipping, Road and Highways. According to Rear Admiral Ajit Tewari, the HSL Chairman and Managing Director, “M.V.Kavaratti is a fine piece of work created by our workforce. Some facts about MV Kavaratti

• It is the 1 st indigenous cruise ship of India that is functional since the last 10 years. It was built in Vishakhapatnam over a 10 year period.
• It was built for a maximum running speed of 16 knots, but usually reaches only till 13 knots now.
• It can carry 700 passengers in 1 st class, 2 nd class and Bunk class combined. The Samudram package tourists are in 1 st class by default.
• It was part of the mission to rescue Indians from Syria in April 2016.
• MV simply stands for Motor Vessel.

Samudram Package Schedule for March and April 2024

The package is 4 Nights and 5 Days. Nights on board. Visiting 3 islands are Agatti, Kalpeni and Minicoy

The embarkation is at Lakshadweep Passenger Center, Wellington Island, Cochin from 09:00am to 10:00am.

. There you get through - Collecting tickets, Checking In, Security check etc. Should be aware that no alcohol is allowed to be carried or consumed on this cruise. Let the company take our luggage on board, and it will be at our seat.

MV Kavaratti is a passenger ship which departs from Kochi to the island and between the islands. During the day, it drops the 'tourists' off at the tourist resort islands. The ship is clean and well maintained. The cabins are comfort size with air-conditioned and ensuite bathroom.

The meals on board are tasty. The filtered water is safe to drink. The tea is always sweetened.

The tourists visit three islands in turn. Agatti, Kalpeni and Minicoy in that order - but the order does change. The schedule of the day is similar in each day: 7 am breakfast (6.30 am sweetened tea), then don life jackets (provided in the cabin) to jump onto the launches which take you to the island shore. Back on the launches between 4-5 pm and dinner at 7.30 pm on board.

Every day is full of experience. Once back on MV Kavaratti you just take a shower, eat your evening meal, and then relax. Catch another island by the next day. The lack of 'luxury cruise ship' amenities is immaterial because of the excitement of each island visit. On the final day, we will be back to Cochin at 12 pm.

Day 1 Departure from Kochi

Boarding time will start 9:00 am. Please be in patient while in queue for check in, All Passengers including children's mandatory to carry photo ID cards. After the security check in, you will be transported by bus to Wharf and board to MV Kavaratti. A short instructional video show also will be screened depicting the various facilities available on board the ship and about the rules and regulations to be followed by the tourists on board for their own safety and for the safety of co-passengers.

Marine life exhibits can be seen at the new MARINE AQUARIUM which has an excellent collection of specimens.

Lakshadweep - Explore by Kavaratti Cruise

“Have you visited Lakshadweep...? “ Shaina asked me while chitchatting about Kerala tourism. This spiked in my mind to explore Lakshadweep. In no time, I did explore the avenues and zeroed in on to take Samudram package by MV Karavatti cruise which operates between September-January and then March-May period and can be booked via Laksadweep tourism website. MV Kavaratti is a passenger transit crusie for the locals to commute between the islands of Lakshadweep and later offered to tourists.

“Lakshadweep comprises 36 islands popular for the striking and sun-kissed beaches. The name Lakshadweep in Sanskrit means ‘ A HUNDRED THOUSANDS ISLANDS ”

 The popular islands of Lakshadweep are – Minicoy, Kalpeni, Kadmat, Bangaram, Thinnakara and Kavaratti.

Samudram Package which I have selected to cover the Kalpeni, Minicoy and Kavaratti islands.

Day 1 – Arrived the day I wanted…!!! All set to travel

As this trip was with my family, spent some time to properly plan and take necessary things required for 6 days stay. Boarded the KSRTC from Bengaluru to Kochi (Ernakulam) at 8:45 PM. It was almost 12 hours by the time we reached Ernakulam, at 8:45 AM, next day.

Day 2 – First sight of MV KAVARATTI

Refreshed at hotel Luciya as soon as we reached Ernakulam, which is next to KSRTC bus stand. After we had a breakfast in a small hotel nearby, walked towards the pre-paid Auto stand to reach ‘Lakshadweep Wharf and Passengers facilitation center’ at 10:15 AM. All visitors were advised to report by 12 PM.

Lakshadweep passenger’s facilitation center is a 2 story mid-size building. Went to first floor and collected the boarding pass by showing ID card. The boarding pass has allocated ship cabin number. The ground floor is meant to check-in. Post luggage scanning and we entered inside. There was a bus waiting to take passengers from the center to the ship. Post 15 minutes journey we reached the port. That’s the point where I have seen the Kavaratti ship first time.

‘ Dad, so big ship………’ uttered my daughter looking at the cruise with an excitement.

There we were introduced to the tour Manager. He explained briefly about the cabin numbers allotted for the passengers. The ship has 5 decks. 1st and 2nd are for public passengers. 3rd, 4th and 5th are for tourists. 4th deck is for Diamond class tourists and 3rd and 5th are for Gold class. Diamond class can accommodate 2 passengers with private bathroom whereas the Gold can accommodate 4 passengers with private restroom. We went to 4th deck to our cabin. The luggage was transferred to the doorstep and no need to carry along.

The cabin….? It’s good enough and spacious to accommodate 2 people. It has 2 bunk beds, fan, 2 chairs, table, 1 long cup board and mirror. It was clean and tidy.

After relaxed for short time, we started exploring the ship – Cafeteria, cabins. We went to 5th deck / top deck where there was a mini swimming pool (But not operative). We clicked snaps all over the ship. Lunch was provided at 12PM in the first-class cafeteria. Both veg and non-veg buffet options were available. Post lunch there was an orientation session by the tour manager. He briefed about the itinerary for next 4 days and guidelines to follow.

The ship started sailing towards the first island around 8PM. Dinner was provided at 8PM. There would be announcement for the dinner. To avoid crowd in the cafeteria, as it’s not so big, tourists/commuters only needs to go deck/class wise based on the announcement. Food was nice. After dinner, went to the top of the ship, seated sometime chat chatting looking at the vast see. It was full dark and Kavaratti is sailing towards the island as if like splitting the sea.

Day 3 – Kalpeni island – Known for hospitality

Morning when we had wake up, the ship was standing next to the island. The coffee time was 6AM - 6:30 AM and Breakfast time 7AM – 8AM. There was a separate announcement for Diamond class and Gold class passengers for the refreshments. After breakfast we proceeded to disembarkation in the ground deck through embarkation door. The water depth near island is shallow and hence the ship was landed few KMs from the Kalpeni island. There were small speed boats. We shifted from the ship to the speed boat which carried to the island. Light blue sea all around...!

After 30 minutes of boat drive, we reached the seashore. The vans are ready to take passengers to the resort. We reached resort around 9:30 AM.

I was happy after seeing the clean island. We were welcomed with tender coconut as complimentary. It was announced that the rest of the day till evening is at the resort which is just next to the seashore.

We roamed around to self-explore. There are many water sports. Snorkeling and kayaking were provided as complimentary. We have boarded a small boat to the other small island for snorkeling and kayaking.

Snorkeling was my first experience. We spent almost 2 hour enjoying snorkeling. I could spot many colorful fishes, sea cucumber etc.,

We did an hour of kayaking and boarded the boat to go back to the main Kalpeni island.

  Day 4 – Minicoy Island – Just Loved it…!!!!

Morning when we had wake up, the was standing next to the Minicoy. As usual the coffee time was 6AM to 6:30 AM and Breakfast time 7AM – 8 AM and separate announcement for Diamond class and Gold class passengers. After breakfast we proceeded for disembarkation in the ground deck. We shifted from the ship to the boat which carried to the island with the life jackets on. The vans are ready to take passengers to the resort. We reached resort around 9:30 AM. Again, we were welcomed with tender coconut as complimentary.

I felt this island offers the best view along with clean and clear water. This has long coastal area in Lakshadweep. Changing color frequently - Once dark blue, greenish, and slight blue makes one get attracted.

kayaking was provided as complimentary.

Scuba diving – We have taken scuba diving for the first time. We were happy to spot many beautiful fishes and corals. The most exciting moment was to swim over there in mid of the see whilst all passengers completed their Scuba diving.

Post lunch the village sightseeing conducted in vans. Later after Tea we are shifted to the ship via small boats.

“Northern Lights….” !!!??   Yes to resemble, while returning to the ship, the environment is suddenly changed. The colorful sky in the surrounding light dark made a magical moment. This was one of the best moments, I have experienced in Lakshadweep. It was like a northern light...!

Day 5 – Kavaratti island – Known for water sports

Morning when we had wake up, MV Kavaratti was standing next to the Kavaratii.  After breakfast we proceeded to embarkation door for disembarkation in the ground deck. We deported the resort again and as usual tender coconut offered. My first expression about this island – Good but not clean as compared to Kalpeni and Minicoy.

This is bit commercialized compared to other islands. We roamed around the seashore and took snaps here and there.

Bottom glass boat drive was provided as complementary. Super experience here.

“I liked this than Scuba diving as we were able to see many corals, fishes, sea cucumbers and other stuffs...?” my daughter voiced. Yes, this is the best one here.

“If anyone opts to do Scuba diving, Kavaratti island is the best ” our tour manager informed later. But we missed this and no regret.

Post buffet lunch (offered both veg and Non-veg), the village sightseeing was organized. Later after Tea we were shifted to the ship via small speed boat. Around 8 PM, the ship started sailing towards Cochin

Day 6 – Bye to Lakshadweep

Breakfast was served at 7AM. The ship reached Cochin port at 11 AM. We bid adieu and transferred to the nearest bus/auto stop.

We have taken auto and reached again hotel Luciya as our return bus at 7:15 PM. Post lunch at Saravanana bhavan, we spotted Sangeetha theater nearby. To kill the time till evening, watched movie. Then had to back Hotel and boarded the return bus to namma Bengaluru...!

 In a nutshell, each island in Lakshadweep has its own elegance. One common thing is plenty of coconut trees covering every inch of the island.  What made this trip impressive was the loveliness of islands, hospitality of the crew/staffs and timely announcements.
