MTG Pro Tour 2023: Full List of Dates, Cities
By conner dejecacion | feb 16, 2023.
The MTG Pro Tour is a series of top-level competitions for Magic: The Gathering . It pits the best of the best against one another for huge cash prizes, as well as fame and glory in the trading card game community. Here are the details.
To enter the Pro Tour, players must first qualify via a Local Qualifier and a Regional Qualifier. These two events come together in the Pro Tour, where players from different regions play against one another in one massive event. The year is then capped off by the World Championship, which has a massive cash prize and the opportunity for the winner to be memorialized in an upcoming Magic card.
TOMORROW! #MCPhilly and #PTPhyrexia from the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA! Coverage of the Pro Tour starts 11am ET tomorrow on https://t.co/nUzYF5lMQ3 https://t.co/Bq6Nlk6oaJ for badges and more information pic.twitter.com/Q1UbTdZvhv — Magic: The Gathering (@wizards_magic) February 16, 2023
Here's how the 2022-2023 Pro Tour season will shake out according to the Magic Wiki:
In between each event is a Regional Championship that will allow players to qualify for the Pro Tour, in addition to finalists from previous Pro Tours. Lastly, the Magic World Championship will be held Sept. 22-24, 2023 at MagicCon Las Vegas, USA, marking the grand finale of the 2022-2023 Pro Tour season.
If you're looking to go competitive, it might be a good idea to practice at in-store events or online. Also be sure to follow the latest decks and competitive strategies so you can plan to come out on top.
Busted MTG card appears in 88% of top pro tour decks
The March of the Machine pro tour saw seven out of eight MTG decks in the top eight run the same Magic: The Gathering card, Reckoner Bankbuster.

The MTG March of the Machine pro tour wrapped up on May 7, and there’s a peculiar pattern among the best MTG decks of the competition. Namely, seven decks in the top eight ran the same Magic: The Gathering card – Reckoner Bankbuster.
The March of the Machine pro tour is a competitive MTG tournament that took place at Minneapolis Magic Con between May 5 and May 7. The top prize was $50,000 (£39,622), which was awarded to current MTG World Champion Nathan Steuer.
First printed in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, Reckoner Bankbuster is possibly one of the best MTG vehicles around right now. It’s colourless, so it slots nicely into a wide range of decks. Plus, it’s a two-mana 4/4 that generates card draw and a pilot token. Reckoner Bankbuster is a solid midrange option – and since four Rakdos Midrange decks made it into this pro tour’s top eight, we’re not too surprised to see it.
Rakdos was the MTG color combination to beat at the pro tour, with the four Midrange decks also accompanied by a Rakdos Reanimator deck. The remaining decks in the top eight were Orzhov Midrange, Five-colour Ramp, and Azorius Soldiers.
Here are the decks that ran Reckoner Bankbuster at the March of the Machine Pro Tour:
You can learn more about the pro tour’s best decks on the Magic Play website . For more Magic news, keep an eye on the ever-changing MTG release schedule . Or, if you’re an Arena player, here’s the latest on MTG Arena codes and MTG Arena decks .

MagicCon Is Coming to Minneapolis
Magic: The Gathering turns 30 this year, and manufacturer Wizards of the Coast is celebrating this milestone all year long with a number of three-day-weekend MagicCon festivals. Earlier this month, it was announced that the next such convention is coming to the Minneapolis Convention Center on May 5–7, 2023. If you’ve attended geek conventions before, MagicCon is largely the same sort of event, but with the focus placed on the beloved trading card game. Whether you’re a veteran player or a relative newcomer, there is something here for everyone.
Wizards of the Coast
For the competitive Magic player, MagicCon will feature Pro Tour qualifiers and other tournaments—including a Secret Lair Showdown, which awards participation and prize promo cards treated in the wild art styles Secret Lair drops are known for. Tickets to these events cost $125 per person. Senior designer Gavin Verhey will be hosting a special Un-Known event for $60. Perhaps by design, there is little information about this online, but what has been openly revealed is that proceeds from this event will help fund the Trevor Project .
Fans looking to avoid spending a ton of money at the con can enjoy a plethora of cheaper offerings. A badge offers full access to the Command Zone, the play area for Commander (a.k.a. Elder Dragon Highlander), Magic ’s most popular casual format. Previous Magic events have made this attraction an add-on purchase, but now all attendees are welcome to participate. Commander aficionados Jimmy Wong and Josh Lee Kwai will be hosting a live episode of their popular show Game Knights on the main stage. Cosplayers can show off their workmanship at the MagicCon masquerade, with the $4,000 top prize also affording the winner two VIP tickets to the final MagicCon of this year as well as hotel accommodations for the event. Plus, while supplies last, registrants can also receive a promotional pin featuring the borderless art of Urza, Prince of Kroog, by ordering a premium or VIP badge before March 28
Single-day and weekend tickets are now live , and if you purchase in advance of April 3, your badge will be shipped to you rather than needing to be picked up at the event.

Is MTG Festival in a Box from MagicCon Minneapolis worth the money?
Wizards of the Coast is selling a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair bundle for MagicCon at Minneapolis, containing three booster boxes and more.
The return of tabletop Magic and the Pro Tour has revived MagicCon events. Players and fans from around the globe gathered in Philadelphia during the month of Feb. for the Phyrexia: All Will Be One Pro Tour and the various events that also take place at a MagicCon festival. A Festival in the Box Secret Lair drop was offered to fans who attended the festival and to those who couldn’t.
The overall reception to the first Festival in a Box for MagicCon Philadelphia was that it was fine, but the contents that were included were a tad shy in value compared to the asking price. But that might not be the case with the second MTG Festival in a Box getting offered for the Minneapolis MagicCon, as the contents already have an established value on the secondary market.
What is in the MTG Festival in a Box Secret Lair ?
WotC has upgraded the Festival in a Box bundle that players can preorder now on the Secret Lair we b site for MagicCon Minneapolis. Priced at $269.99 with free shipping to most, the bundle contains three booster boxes, four unique alternative art Legendary Flyers foil cards, and one traditional foil Arcane Signet.
- One Mystery booster convention box
- One Phyrexia: All Will Be One Draft booster box
- One The Brothers’ War Draft booster box
- The Secret Lair Legendary Flyers foil edition
- One Traditional foil Arcane Signet
Is the Secret Lair Festival in a Box worth the $269.99 price tag?
The best way to determine if a bundle like the Secret Lair Festival in a Box is worth its price tag is to separate out the items according to market value and determine if the product has any personal value to the buyer.
Draft booster boxes are less valuable than set booster boxes, but players can still pull some ONE and BRO cards worth money while having the opportunity to play Draft with friends, either at a physical or digital gathering.
- BRO Draft booster box: Estimated value sealed is around $90 to $100
- ONE Draft booster box: Estimated value sealed is around $95 to $110
The Mystery booster convention box, however, is a very different product. Designed for Choas Drafts, the Mystery booster box was first introduced in 2020. Convention Mystery booster boxes are typically worth more than retail store ones. The average price of a Mystery booster box sealed from 2020 to 2022 ranges from $200 to $340.
Contents of what might be in the 2023 Mystery booster box haven’t been revealed by WotC at time of writing. But even if the box is worth half the value of previous versions, fans who purchase the Minneapolis Festival in a Box Secret Lair bundle are getting products that are worth more on the secondary market when sold individually, and that doesn’t include the Legendary Flyers or the foil Arcane Signet card.
From a personal investment standpoint, the Mystery convention booster box is the icing on the cake, as it has the potential to cover most of the $269.99 price tag. Fans who enjoy playing Draft with friends, whether at home or through digital programs like Spelltable, can enjoy multiple drafts with the two Draft booster boxes while potentially cracking a pack with a card that’s worth money on the secondary market.
Purchasing the Secret Lair box just for the Legendary Flyer cards with no intention of selling or using the booster boxes isn’t typically worth the money, though.
How to buy the MTG Minneapolis MagicCon Festival in a Box
Unlike other Secret Lair drops, the Minneapolis Festival in a Box product is not a timed-boxed-to-demand item. The quantity of the MTG box is limited. Fans can purchase the box at the Secret Lair website, with the Festival in a Box releasing on April 7.
