Yellowstone and Grand Tetons Adventure

6 days | follow in the footsteps of cowboys as you explore wyoming’s wild terrain.

SASY - Person viewing the colourful Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

Embark on a discovery of some of the most iconic natural landmarks in the USA. Visit the country’s oldest national park – the immense Yellowstone National Park – where Old Faithful Geyser shoots boiling water to the sky, bubbling hot rivers flow, and herds of bison roam. Spot wildlife like moose, bears and beavers hidden within the Grand Teton Mountain Range and follow along with a real-life wolf tracker who’ll teach you their secret tracking tricks in the wee hours of the morning. In the evenings, unwind like the cowboys used to do, with dinner, drinks and entertainment in the famous frontier town of Jackson, Wyoming.

Trip overview

  • Enjoy three full days exploring Yellowstone National Park, as you explore both the northern loop and the southern loop, witnessing all of the park’s highlights.
  • Explore the stunning scenery of Grand Teton National Park – home to wildlife such as moose and grizzly bears, as well as pristine lakes and incredible alpine terrain.
  • Meet up with an experienced wolf tracker in the wee hours of the morning for a unique opportunity to search for wolves in their natural habitat in Yellowstone National Park.
  • See Yellowstone’s most iconic sites like the powerful Old Faithful Geyser and the hypnotic Grand Prismatic Spring, then see if you can spot the park’s famous bison herds (from a safe distance, of course).
  • Spend two nights in Jackson – known for its cowboy heritage and culture – and visit the elk antler arch at the town square, surrounded by a mountain range.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, the Grand Canyon Conservancy. Donations help them protect Grand Canyon National Park and support trail restoration, conservation of native plants and wildlife, and educational programs.
  • This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
  • There are walking opportunities throughout this trip. We recommend you bring good quality walking shoes if you're keen to enjoy a hike - or two!

Welcome to Wyoming! Your adventure begins in the historic town of Jackson, where fur trappers and frontiersmen once gathered. Surrounded by towering mountain ranges and the meandering Snake River, Jackson is your gateway to discovering Yellowstone National Park. You’ll have a group meeting at 6 pm, followed by an optional welcome dinner. After, the evening is all yours to explore the town’s nightlife. Feel free to wander the plaza or maybe head to the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for a drink with your new fellow travellers.

  • Hotel (1 night)

There are no meals included on this day.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance and emergency contact details at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

This morning, embark on a day of exploring Grand Teton National Park – one of the most stunning places in Wyoming. The Grand Teton Mountain Range rises above a scene rich with abundant wildlife and pristine lakes. Stop at Jenny Lake and gaze up in awe at the surrounding landscape. Perhaps take the optional boat trip across the lake for more incredible views of the Tetons from the water, or hike to Inspiration Point. Maybe have a picnic, spot a moose or even a grizzly bear and enjoy the serenity of this remarkable place. Other wildlife you might find include elk, beavers and black bears, so keep your eyes peeled! Continue to viewing sites for buffalo and antelope herds along the Gros Ventre River and Antelope Flats, then visit the Mormon Row Historic District to see the iconic Moulton Barn with the Tetons towering behind. For dinner, you'll head out as a group for a western-style chuck wagon dinner at a local restaurant.

This morning, drive from Jackson to Yellowstone National Park – the crown jewel of the American national parks – and spend the day exploring with your leader. Yellowstone is the country’s first national park – a mountain wilderness home to grizzly bears, wolves and herds of buffalo and elk. You’ll take the southern loop today and watch as Old Faithful Geyser sprays over 4000 gallons (14,000 litres) of boiling water into the air. Then, be hypnotised by the startling colours of the Grand Prismatic Spring – you should definitely have your camera handy today! You have three full days to explore the park, which means you can take your time at all the sites and fully immerse yourself in this unique landscape.

  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Yellowstone National Park - Southern Loop Featuring Old Faithful Geyser & Grand Prismatic Spring

Your travel time today will be approximately 3.5 hours.

Today we will spend a full day exploring Yellowstone National Park. You’ll focus on the northern loop of the park today, which passes by the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone – an icon of the park’s complex and dramatic geological history. Pass the Norris Geyser Basin as well – the hottest and oldest geyser in Yellowstone’s thermal areas – among other sights along the loop. Along the way, look out for abundant wildlife, including birdlife and grazing elk.

  • Yellowstone National Park - Northern Loop Featuring Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone & Norris Geyser Basin

Yellowstone is a huge park and we will cover a lot of ground during our exploration. We'll spend approximately 9-10 hours in the park today, of which you can expect to spend about 3.5 hours in the vehicle.

Wake up super early this morning, ready for a very special last day in Yellowstone National Park – you’ll join a naturalist wildlife guide on a wolf-tracking adventure in a quieter, off-the-beaten-path section of the park. This is an ideal place to look for wolves, as well as lots of other wildlife like bison, elk and bears. High-power binoculars will be provided during the tour, so you have the best shot at glimpsing these elusive beasts. Check out the Mammoth Hot Springs in the park, then continue back to the hotel. Enjoy some time to rest and recharge this afternoon, then head out for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant with your group.

  • Yellowstone - Wolf Tracking Experience

Due to the very early start and remote locations visited, we recommend you pack snacks to carry with you during the Wolf Tracking experience. We'll spend approximately 9-10 hours in the park today, of which you can expect to spend about 4 hours in the vehicle.

This morning after breakfast, take a scenic drive back to Jackson. Watch the Idaho scenery pass you by as you follow the western edge of the Tetons and then cross the Snake River in Wyoming. You’ll arrive in Jackson at about 3 pm this afternoon, where your trip will come to an end. If you’d like to extend your stay, just speak to your booking agent.

Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours.

It’s recommended that you don’t book any flights home until at least 6 pm tonight, in case there are any delays in the transit back to Jackson.

What travelers say about their tours to Yellowstone

Travel tips for our yellowstone.

America’s first national park covers a vast area (3,472 square miles, to be exact), and traveling between its various attractions takes time. While the ideal length of a trip to Yellowstone National Park can vary depending on your interests and travel style, we recommend spending a minimum of three to four days there. That gives you enough time to experience the park’s highlights—Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon, Mammoth Hot Springs, and the wildlife-rich Lamar Valley—and immerse yourself in its natural wonders.

Our Yellowstone vacation tours offer a wide range of activities that cater to different interests and preferences. Some of the most popular include:

  • Geyser and hot spring watching. Yellowstone is home to over 1,000 geysers—including Old Faithful, which erupts every 90 minutes. Other popular geysers include Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in the world, and Morning Glory Pool, known for its changing colors.
  • Wildlife viewing. Renowned for its diverse wildlife population, Yellowstone offers abundant opportunities to spot its native animals. Keep an eye out for grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, elk, bison, and various bird species. Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley are particularly good spots for viewing wildlife.
  • Scenic drives. Yellowstone offers numerous picturesque drives, allowing you to take in the park’s breathtaking landscapes, geothermal features, and wildlife habitats. The 142-mile-long Grand Loop Road showcases the park’s major attractions, including waterfalls, canyons, and more.

Known for its incredible natural wonders and diverse landscapes, Yellowstone National Park is a must-visit destination for any nature lover. Here are some unmissable attractions on our Yellowstone tours that showcase the park’s unique beauty:

  • Old Faithful.  This famous geyser erupts approximately every 90 minutes, reaching heights of up to 180 feet. The nearby Old Faithful Inn is also worth visiting for its rustic charm and stunning architecture.
  • Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.  The colorful canyon walls and the mighty Yellowstone River, cascading over the Upper and Lower Falls, serve up breathtaking views. For more incredible vistas, be sure to visit Artist Point and Inspiration Point.
  • Mammoth Hot Springs.  This complex of intricate terraces and colorful mineral deposits has been sculpted over thousands of years.
  • Lamar Valley.  This area’s considered the “Serengeti of North America” thanks to its abundant wildlife sighting opportunities. Keep an eye out for bison, elk, wolves, bears, and various bird species.

One of the most fascinating facets of our Yellowstone tours is the opportunity to see the park’s diverse wildlife population. Along with bighorn sheep, moose, and over 300 bird species, here are some of the iconic animals you can expect to see while visiting the park. (And please remember—treat them with respect and observe them from a safe distance.):

  • Bison.  Yellowstone is home to the world’s largest free-ranging herd of American bison, and you can often see them grazing in open meadows or alongside the park’s roads.
  • Grizzly and black bears:  Yellowstone is among the few places in the Lower 48 where you can spot the elusive grizzly bear. Black bears are also present, and sightings are relatively more common.
  • Wolves.  A successful reintroduction program has made Yellowstone a prime viewing destination for wolves. With patience and luck, you might catch a glimpse of these fascinating predators in Lamar Valley or Hayden Valley.
  • Bald eagles. Bald eagles are a common sight in Yellowstone National Park. Keep an eye on the skies and along the water for these majestic raptors.

The weather in Yellowstone National Park can vary significantly depending on the season and elevation. It is characterized by a highland continental climate, meaning temperatures can fluctuate considerably throughout the year—and even within a single day. To assist with planning your tour to Yellowstone, here’s an overview of the park’s different seasons:

  • Spring (March to May). Fluctuating temperatures characterize spring in Yellowstone. Days can be cool to mild, ranging from 30–60 degrees Fahrenheit. As the season progresses, wildlife becomes more active, and melting snow leads to increased water flows in rivers and waterfalls.
  • Summer (June to August). Yellowstone summers are generally mild to warm, averaging between 70–80 degrees Fahrenheit. However, temperatures can occasionally climb into the 90s. The park is bustling with visitors during this time, and the weather is generally pleasant for outdoor activities. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoons, so it’s best to be prepared.
  • Fall (September to November). Fall in Yellowstone brings cooler temperatures, especially in the later months. Daytime temperatures range from 30–60 degrees Fahrenheit. The park’s foliage transforms into vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red, creating a stunning autumnal landscape. September is generally pleasant, while October and November can be colder, with the possibility of snowfall.
  • Winter (December to February). Cold temperatures and heavy snowfall characterize winters in Yellowstone. Daytime temperatures can range from 0–20 degrees Fahrenheit, with nights dropping well below freezing. Snow covers the park, turning it into a winter wonderland.

Ultimately, the best time to visit on a Yellowstone guided tour depends on your personal preferences—whether you prefer warmer weather and more activities (summer), stunning foliage (fall), a snowy wonderland (winter), or a quieter experience (spring). Here’s a breakdown of each season to help you determine the ideal time for your Yellowstone vacation tour:

  • Summer. The peak tourist season in Yellowstone, summer finds the park bustling with visitors, and all facilities and roads are open. This is the best time for wildlife viewing, as animals are more active, and the weather is generally pleasant. However, popular attractions can be crowded, and accommodation rates tend to be higher. It’s advisable to make reservations well in advance if you plan to visit during this season.
  • Fall. Fall is a beautiful time to visit Yellowstone. The crowds thin out, and the park’s landscapes become tinged with vibrant autumnal hues. The weather is cooler, but still pleasant during the day, and wildlife becomes more active as it prepares for winter. It’s an excellent time to take photos and enjoy peaceful trail hikes. However, some facilities and services start to close as the season progresses, and weather conditions can be unpredictable.
  • Winter. Winter in Yellowstone offers a unique and magical experience. The park’s landscapes get covered in snow, and visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and wildlife watching. The park is much less crowded, offering a tranquil atmosphere. However, access to certain areas and services is limited, and many roads and facilities are closed. Winter weather can be harsh, too, with frigid temperatures and heavy snowfall.
  • Spring. Spring brings the awakening of the park, with melting snow, blooming wildflowers, and newborn wildlife. While the weather can be unpredictable, with occasional snowfall and colder temperatures, spring offers a quieter time to explore Yellowstone before the summer crowds arrive. Some facilities may still be closed, and road accessibility can be limited, especially in April.

When packing for a tour of Yellowstone National Park, it’s important to be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and various outdoor activities. Here are some essential items to pack for our guided tours of Yellowstone:

  • Layers. Layering clothing is key to navigating Yellowstone’s fluctuating temperatures. Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking clothes for warmer days and warmer items such as sweaters, jackets, and thermal underwear for cooler weather. And don’t forget to bring a waterproof, windproof outer layer, just in case any storms roll through.
  • Comfortable shoes. Choose sturdy, comfortable shoes suitable for hiking and walking on uneven terrain. Opt for closed-toe footwear that provides good traction and ankle support. Packing a pair of sandals or water shoes for aquatic activities is also a good idea.
  • Outdoor gear. Depending on the season, pack essentials like a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection. Insect repellent and a mosquito net can also be useful, especially during the summer months. And don’t forget a backpack for water, snacks, and other items during hikes.
  • Rain gear. Yellowstone’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to pack a lightweight, waterproof jacket or poncho. Consider bringing waterproof pants or a rain cover for your backpack as well.
  • Binoculars and a camera. Yellowstone is known for its wildlife, so having binoculars can enhance your viewing experience. And be sure to bring a camera or smartphone to capture the park’s stunning landscapes and your wildlife encounters.
  • Water. It’s essential to stay hydrated and energized during tours of Yellowstone National Park. To travel sustainably, you can pack a reusable water bottle to use on any of our Yellowstone tour packages.

Once you’ve reserved one of our Yellowstone National Park guided tours, we’ll send you detailed information about what to bring with you. Don’t forget to download the  EF Go Ahead app  before you take off, so you’ll have all the info you need about your trip right in your pocket.

Home to more than 2.2 million acres, hundreds of geysers and waterfalls, as well as Yellowstone Lake – the largest high-altitude lake in North America – Yellowstone National Park is a bucket list vacation destination for many travelers. For help planning an unforgettable visit to America's oldest national park, consider a guided tour. In addition to in-the-know locals, these tours also provide hassle-free transportation from nearby cities like Jackson Hole, Wyoming . With the help of traveler and expert input, U.S. News determined that the following tours offer the best ways to take in all that the park has to offer. All of these top-rated excursions feature skillful guides who are eager to share their knowledge of the park's unique geologic features and wildlife.

Note: Because of weather and other factors, the park's roads are not accessible all year, and its entrances in Wyoming and Montana have differing seasonal opening and closing dates, so plan your visit accordingly. Additionally, tour companies' prices typically do not include the park's approximately $20 entry fee for each visitor 16 and older.

Scenic Safaris – Yellowstone Snowmobile Tour (Old Faithful)

While certain parts of the park may be inaccessible by conventional four-wheeled vehicles in winter, that doesn't mean there aren't adventures to be had. This 45-mile snowmobile tour beside the Yellowstone River takes riders past points of interest, such as Moose Falls, Lewis Canyon and West Thumb Geyser Basin, to Old Faithful. Rides are offered daily from mid-December to mid-March, a period when some of the park's larger animals move down to its lower valleys. Trip-goers generally find snowmobiling in the park a memorable experience, one enhanced by the helpful, informed guides' commentary. Jackson Hole-based Scenic Safaris picks up tour-takers in the area between 6 and 7:30 a.m. and returns them to their lodgings between 6 and 7 p.m. Prices vary over the course of the season but are usually around $340 for drivers (16 and older), $210 for passengers 13 and older and $190 for passengers 8 to 12. (Note: 8 is the minimum age to participate). In addition to use of a snowmobile, prices include use of a helmet and snowsuit as well as breakfast and lunch. Passengers generally find the coaches warm and comfortable and the drivers (who double as guides) knowledgeable and passionate about the park. Tours, which are available to book year-round, generally start at around 5 a.m. in the summer and 6:30 a.m. in the winter. Rates start at approximately $650 for a single person and $50 for each additional person (except for children younger than 5, who can tag along for free). Show Full Itinerary

Welcome to the historic town of Jackson, Wyoming, where fur trappers and frontiersmen once gathered. Surrounded by towering mountain ranges and the meandering Snake River, Jackson is your gateway to discovering Yellowstone National Park. We’ll have a group meeting at 6 pm, followed by a welcome dinner. Afterwards, the evening is all yours to explore the town’s nightlife. Feel free to wander the plaza or maybe head to the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for a drink.

After breakfast, embark on a day exploring Grand Teton National Park, one of the most stunning places in Wyoming. The Grand Teton mountain range rises above a scene rich with abundant wildlife and pristine lakes. Take a walk to Inspiration Point for outstanding views or enjoy a scenic stroll around the glacially carved Jenny Lake and gaze up in awe at the surrounding landscape. Have a picnic, maybe spot a moose or even a grizzly bear and enjoy the serenity of this remarkable place. Other wildlife you might find include elk, beavers and black bears, so keep your eyes peeled! We’ll continue on to viewing sites for buffalo and antelope herds along the Gros Ventre River and Antelope Flats.

This morning, take in the fascinating artwork of the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Featuring work by famed artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Andy Warhol, the museum’s collection chronicles the history of wildlife in art, from the present all the way back to 2500 BC. You’ll have the rest of the day free to further explore Jackson – perhaps wander among the many shops or opt for an exciting whitewater rafting adventure on the Snake River.

An early start sees us on the road to the crown jewel of the American national parks, where you’ll spend the full day exploring with your expert guide. Yellowstone is the country’s first national park and is a mountain wilderness, home to grizzly bears, wolves and herds of buffalo and elk. Watch as Old Faithful sprays over 4000 gallons (14,000 litres) of boiling water into the air, then be hypnotized by the startling colours of the Grand Prismatic Pool. Other highlights include Yellowstone Canyon with its geysers along the north and south loop, and the tranquil Yellowstone Lake.

It’s another early morning for a fascinating day with a local wolf-tracking expert. There is no better place than Yellowstone to see these magnificent animals in the wild. We meet up with an experienced naturalist guide who tracks the movements and behaviour of Yellowstone wildlife almost daily and know the best places to find the animals. There will be top-of-the-line binoculars and high-powered spotting scopes on board, so no one will miss out on seeing these creatures close up.

After breakfast, make your way back to Jackson (approximately 3 hours), where you will arrive late afternoon. Your tour ends here and you are free to explore more of Jackson or depart at your leisure.

Why Choose Our Guided Small-Group Adventure?

  • Don't Go It Alone—Let Us Take the Hassle Out! When you travel on your own, you spend a lot of time researching, planning, asking questions, competing for reservations, or driving around trying to figure out where to go and what to do. As a result, you lose precious time and miss the secret spots known only to locals. We’ve taken out the legwork and guesswork: because we’ve already researched and tested everything, and we coordinate reservations far in advance, you'll experience much more than most people can accomplish on their own.
  • Small Groups Make a BIG Difference In contrast to motorcoach tours, our small groups are limited to  just seven guests per private safari vehicle, and only six on photo tours!  With a maximum of 13 guests (in two vehicles) per departure—just 12 on photo tours—plus two NHA Expedition Leaders and a support staff member, we offer a matchless guide-to-guest ratio and a far more intimate nature adventure. We can move more quickly to areas where wildlife has recently been spotted and access roads and places buses can't reach.
  • "Hidden" Wildlife Enclaves, Private Experiences & Fewer Crowds Our itinerary features out-of-the-way corners of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks that most visitors miss. With in-depth knowledge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, we take you to lesser-known areas where wildlife viewing is better and crowds are fewer. Over the years we’ve developed relationships with a range of interesting locals, and you'll get personalized experiences you wouldn’t have access to on your own, such as a home visit with a famous local wildlife photographer.
  • Expert Naturalist Guides Add Immeasurably to Your Experience Our Expedition Leaders are professional naturalists and biologists who know this region like few others. Many guide and teach here year-round, all have in-depth knowledge of the places we visit, resident wildlife behavior, and where and when to be in particular places to see animals. Our guides are the most senior in the region, called on to train other local guides.  We can't emphasize enough how much difference this expertise makes to your overall experience. They are also in constant communication with local wolf researchers, providing our groups the most up-to-date knowledge of wolf locations and activity. See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  • Special Photo Departures with Expert Photography Coaching On our photo safaris, we often begin the day earlier and end later, to capitalize on the best light—slowing down a bit to take advantage of photo opportunities as they arise. And we make the most of autumn's brilliant colors with special fall foliage photo departures, too. Our guides on these trips are not only professional naturalists but gifted photography instructors, too.
  • Personalized Encounters with a Local Naturalist Photographer Exclusively for Nat Hab guests, we have arranged a private home and gallery visit with Dan Hartman, one of Yellowstone's most famous wildlife photographers, whose work has been featured in National Geographic  and other notable outlets. His wolf images are particularly renowned, and he is an important Yellowstone naturalist in his own right. Photo safaris also spend a day in the field with Dan, gaining insight and tips from this local pro.
  • Exclusive Nat Hab Safari Trucks—Pop-Top Roofs Enhance Viewing A far cry from the typical buses or vans other companies use, Nat Hab has crafted new Mercedes Sprinters into specialty North American Safari Trucks . Featuring luxury bucket seats, USB chargers, expansive side windows and a pop-top roof offering 360° views on the landscape, these impressive vehicles provide a superlative wildlife viewing experience, not to mention exceptional comfort. Every guest has a window seat and plenty of room for camera equipment and other gear. These exclusive vehicles make a big difference!
  • A Diversity of Seasons So You Can Choose Your Preference No matter when you visit Yellowstone Country, you are in for an uplifting nature display. In spring, crowds are fewer, the landscape is bright green with the peaks still blanketed by snow, and babies abound: bear cubs, bison calves, moose calves, fawns and wolf pups.  Bears are especially active searching for food after hibernation, and cooler temperatures tend to mean more wildlife activity. In high summer, wildflowers are in full bloom and animals are still very active. Long days allow us to rise early and linger late, maximizing time for the best wildlife viewing when visitors have left the park or aren't yet out and about for the day. Fall is splendid here, with autumn’s palette of golden aspen and willow contrasting against brilliant blue skies and providing a superb backdrop for wildlife photos. Crowds are fewer again, too, as we listen for bugling elk and look for rotund bears, fattening up before winter.
  • Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Yellowstone Adventure With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive guarantee, stating clearly that we will meet the lofty expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. Legendary Journeys and Adventures

The world's first national park inspires awe any time of the year, as Yellowstone winter tours would attest. But as you'll discover visiting the national park during the winter – when bison, elk, wolves and bighorn sheep wander across snow-covered valleys, and Yellowstone's amazing geologic features are even more spectacular in the frigid air – is a whole other... and perhaps other-worldly... experience.

Sleigh ride through the national elk refuge, ride through the national elk refuge via horse-drawn sleigh in wyoming.

Each year, one of the world's largest remaining herds of elk (wapiti) – about 7,500 out of what was once a population of 25,000 – weathers the harsh winter in the National Elk Refuge, nestled between Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton National Park. Your unforgettable horse-drawn sleigh ride through the refuge takes you right into the steaming, pawing winter world of the herd, as they watch you pass! It's truly a ride to remember!

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

Wonderland: Yellowstone in Winter begins and ends in the U.S.

Real ID Act - Effective May 7, 2025

Beginning in May 2025, some state IDs will no longer permit you to board a domestic flight. Currently, some states are compliant, some have received extensions, and some are not compliant.  Click here  to see the status of your state. If your state license is not compliant, you can use a passport in lieu of a valid state ID.

Please Note:  The federal government has extended the deadline to May 7, 2025 for domestic airline passengers to secure a Real ID driver's license for use as identification at the airport. Travelers without a verified license or ID card will also have the option of showing other identity documents, such as a passport or military ID to board a plane.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally,   you should contact an embassy or consulate of the U.S. to determine what travel documentation is necessary. You may also log on to the U.S. State Department's Internet site by clicking  here.

If you are traveling by air to join and/or depart from this tour within the U.S., please read the section titled Airline Security Measures to determine what travel documentation is required.

If you are a citizen of the U.S. or Canada who travels frequently between the two countries , you may benefit from the NEXUS program, which is a joint initiative between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows pre-screened and approved travelers faster processing at designated highway lanes in high-volume border crossing locations, at a NEXUS kiosk at several airports, and at certain marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle regions. For further information, you may log on to the Nexus Internet website by clicking here. Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of another country traveling to or within the U.S.,  we suggest that contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to obtain information regarding vaccinations and medications for vaccine-preventable diseases and other diseases for which you might be at risk when you reach your destination in the U.S. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking  here .

To enjoy this tour, you should be in reasonably good health. Our journeys are active adventures which may include considerable walking on uneven terrain, involve stairs and steep inclines, touring at high elevations and visiting remote areas. It is important that you have sturdy, comfortable and worn-in walking shoes. Hiking boots are recommended for the hiking portions of this tour. Some of the winter activities available include: hiking by snowshoe, ice skating, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling so warmer layers, hats, gloves and other winter sportswear may be of use.

Some of the excursions on this tour are:

  • Day-long journeys aboard specialized snowcoaches that require navigating several steep steps to board and exit the vehicle
  • A snowshoeing activity that traverses slick and icy snow conditions

This tour spends multiple nights at an elevation of 7,800 feet in Yellowstone National Park. Those with heart conditions or lung ailments should consult their physician before traveling. It is important to drink plenty of water and avoid any strenuous exercise throughout all high altitude travel. If you have any concerns about the altitude, we urge you to speak with your physician before your departure.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

Certain activities on the tour will require a liability waiver signature before participation. This liability waiver will include an assumption of risk, release and indemnification by you .

The Old Faithful Inn Snow Lodge is a non-smoking hotel and a very large fine will be assessed if anyone is determined to have smoked on their property.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey! You can view the reading list  here.

Temperatures in winter often range from zero to 20F(-20 to -5C) throughout the day. Sub-zero temperatures over-night are common. Snowfall is highly variable. While the average is 150 inches per year, it is not uncommon for higher elevations to get twice that amount.

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website, noaa.gov , by clicking here.

What To Pack

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with New Headings who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .

Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended, with plenty of warm layers appropriate to the winter season. Cold weather at higher elevations and at night will require warmer, layered clothing. Temperatures during the day range from zero to 20F (-20 to -5C) so please keep that in mind while packing. For the welcome and farewell receptions, casual resort wear is appropriate; formal wear is never required. Most important are lightweight walking shoes and winter boots with ankle support. Be sure to bring warm layers, hats, scarves, gloves and boots for walking and hiking in the snow. A walking stick is suggested if you have one and crampons (or ice cleats, anti-slip over the shoe chains) can come in handy.

Cold weather gear/clothing is not provided in the cost of the tour. Guests are responsible for bringing adequate cold weather clothing and gear to keep themselves comfortable and safe in the cold environment of Yellowstone in winter. A detailed list of recommended clothing is provided in the guest documents, as well as contact information for a recommended outfitter who can provide the gear at a competitive rate. Additionally, rentals for skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles are not included in the event cost.

Layering: Air is a very good insulator. Therefore, if you trap air in several layers of clothing, you will stay warmer than if you wear one or two heavy items. You will also be able to add or subtract layers more easily to remain comfortable at all times. Wool and silk are superior to cotton because they can trap warm air. Synthetic fabrics that spring back into shape after compression are also good. Fleece clothing, gloves, turtlenecks and pants can all be purchased from an outdoor outfitter or ski shop. Very Important : If you do not have warm insulated boots, you will not be able to hike in the snow around the park or participate in wildlife viewing. It will likely be very cold and you may be stepping into very deep snow.  Moon boots or leather boots are not appropriate.  Shoe liners are a good insulator (in addition to wool or synthetic socks) and can be dried out easily since they are removable. Crampons or ice cleats (over the shoe anti-slip chains) are also recommended for added traction and grip in the snow and ice. Wind pants or ski pants are crucial to staying warm. NOTE: Be sure your boots fit properly over heavy socks.

Valet laundry services are available at the Wort Hotel for a fee.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your journey:

  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • Optional: Jacket and tie for men
  • Optional: Casually elegant evening wear for ladies
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
  • A light sweater, fleece or jacket for higher elevations or a breezy night
  • Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes or boots that have already been broken-in and a walking stick is suggested if you have one
  • Hiking boots and water shoes for rafting
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
  • Reusable zipper-lock bags or other waterproof bags
  • Daypack for camera equipment
  • Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

10 Incredible Facts About Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is the most famous national park in the United States . It is known for its vast size, and its extreme diversity makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations. However, there’s much more to Yellowstone than meets the eye. So, keep reading to discover some of the most incredible facts about Yellowstone National Park!

1. First National Park in the United States

Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872, officially becoming the first national park in the United States. It is also often considered to be the very first national park in the world , although there is some debate around the fact. In the late 1770’s, Bogd Khan mountain in Mongolia was declared as a protected area by the Mongolian government. However, although the area is now officially a national park, some argue that, as it was not initially designated as such at the time, it can’t hold the title of the first national park in the world, leaving the spot open for Yellowstone.

2. It’s Bigger Than Delaware and Rhode Island Combined

Yellowstone is a vast swath of protected land, spanning some 3,472 square miles. Incredibly, this actually means that it is larger than the combined area of Delaware and Rhode Island . Yellowstone crosses three states — Wyoming , Idaho , and Montana . The vast majority of the park is in Wyoming (96%), with Montana and Idaho having 3% and 1% respectively.

3. Located on an Active Volcano

One of the most incredible things about Yellowstone National Park is that it is actually an active volcano . Within the park is a huge caldera which is 30 miles wide and 45 miles long. Known as the Yellowstone Caldera, it is actually considered to be a massive supervolcano . It’s called a supervolcano because of its extreme size, which means that it has the potential for any eruption to have catastrophic consequences for both the climate and the ecosystem.

Yellowstone has had three massive eruptions in history which caused the formation of the caldera. The earliest and most violent eruption occurred 2.1 million years ago, with a slightly smaller one occurring 1.3 million years ago. The most recent super eruption was 640,000 years ago. There’s been several smaller eruptions since, the most recent of which was 70,000 years ago. Although this may make it seem as though the volcano is extinct, the area is actually in a volcanic hotspot, and beneath Yellowstone is a massive magma chamber which is estimated to be 37 miles long.

4. There’s Thousands of Hydrothermal Features

Yellowstone features a vast number of hydrothermal features. Hydrothermal features include things such as hot springs, geysers , fumaroles, and mud pots. In total, there are more than 10,000 of these features, which can be found right across the park. Many of the hot springs and mud pots are brightly colored due to the thermophiles that they contain. Thermophiles are micro-organisms that grow in areas with extremely high temperatures. Different thermophiles live at different temperatures and produce different colors, hence the variation of vibrant colors in the hydrothermal features.

5. Contains Half of the World’s Geysers

As well as all of the other hydrothermal features that we’ve just mentioned, there are actually more than 500 geysers in Yellowstone National Park. Incredibly, this is around half of the geysers in the entire world!

6. Largest Hot Spring in the United States

Another incredible fact about Yellowstone National Park is that it also features the largest hot spring in the United States. Grand Prismatic Spring is approximately 370 feet wide and 160 feet deep, which also makes it the third-largest hot spring in the world. It is situated in the Midway Geyser Basin and was first recorded in 1839 by fur trappers. Like many of the other hydrothermal features in Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic features a stunning array of colors around the edge. However, the center is known for its striking blue appearance.

7. Thousands of Archaeological Sites

Yellowstone is one of the ultimate places when it comes to archaeology, as it features around 2,000 different archaeological sites. Amazingly, only 3% of the national park has been explored so far. Numerous artifacts have been excavated from areas across Yellowstone, including items such as arrowheads, spears, and pottery. Based on the archaeological evidence that has been found, it has been determined that humans lived in the area up to 11,500 years ago.

8. One Geyser Erupts Every 90 Minutes

The most famous of Yellowstone’s geysers is undoubtedly Old Faithful , which erupts regularly with an average interval of 90 minutes. The geyser ejects boiling water to a height of between 106 and 184 feet, and each eruption lasts between 90 seconds and five minutes. Old Faithful is located in the Upper Geyser Basin and is considered to be so predictable because it is not connected to any of the other nearby hydrothermal features. Surprisingly, the geyser was once used for doing laundry. Clothes were placed on it in the interval and after they were ejected they came out completely clean! Old Faithful is now a popular tourist attraction in the park, with visitors being able to stand a safe distance away and observe the eruptions.

9. Yellowstone Gets a Lot of Earthquakes

Incredibly, Yellowstone is one of the most active areas in the country when it comes to seismic activity. The park experiences between 1,500 and 2,000 earthquakes annually, with 2023 recording 1,600 of them. The most powerful earthquake in Yellowstone had a magnitude of 6.1 and occurred close to the Norris Geyser Basin. However, the largest earthquake ever felt in Yellowstone was the 7.3-magnitude Hebgen Lake earthquake which occurred just outside the park’s border.

10. It’s Home to Thousands of Species

Considering the massive area that Yellowstone National Park spans, this last fact probably isn’t the most surprising. However, with 67 different species of mammals alone, it’s actually the biggest group of animals within the contiguous United States. But that’s not all, as the park is also home to around 300 species of birds and more than 1,300 species of plants. Many of the species within Yellowstone are considered to be endangered , including grizzly bears , grey wolves , and whooping cranes .

Truly one of the best trips I’ve ever had. It was my first time ever doing a solo trip. Himanshu gave us an itinerary and a list of good traveling tips for Egypt months in advance. He is very organized and responsive so I never had any concerns. Everything was already taken care of. All I had to do was show up. The scenes in Egypt were breathtaking and I saw places that I never thought I’d see.

Had a great time in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Land in Salt Lake City & the rest of the trip is taken care by BLGT.. you have absolutely nothing to worry about.. logistics, campsite booking, tickets, planning is all done by them. We had a great guide with us through out the trip. Would definitely be going with BLGT in future.

The trip was to the Galapagos and it was wonderful Quito was also a beautiful City.

This was a trip of a lifetime, been wanting to do this for a long time. All planning done right and price was great can’t wait for my next trip, unfortunately I can only do one a year

Had a great experience through BLGT recently in Alaska; appreciated the trip leaders’ ability to handle logistics so you could focus on the experience and having fun. It was just like traveling with a group of friends, with the added bonus of the itinerary being all taken care of.

This New Luxury Travel Company Features Carbon-neutral Trips to the Dolomites, Victoria Falls, Amazon, and More

The 30 itineraries — all tested by the founders — include adventures in the Seychelles, Rwanda, Dolomites, Yellowstone, and Slovenia.

Brit Sarah Dusek and her American husband Jacob Dusek have always viewed the world through a lens of possibilities. The couple met in Taipei, Taiwan, nearly two decades ago and started out raising their two sons in Montana — all while they launched what has become one of the preeminent glamping companies in the country, Under Canvas . It disrupted the old standards of rustic camping and replaced it with chic, eco-friendly safari-style tents against the background of some of the most iconic U.S. destinations.

Now they’ve taken that same mindful model of meaningful outdoor experiences into the luxury travel space, debuting a new brand last month: Few & Far . It's a sustainable company dedicated to carbon-neutral exploration. “The heart of all of it is the magical connection there is when people connect with nature in extraordinary ways,” Sarah Dusek told Travel + Leisure.

Each of the 30 itineraries available on the site right now are ones that someone from the Dusek family has experienced first-hand, providing a personal level of curation and paired with a focus on putting sustainability first.

Among her favorite trips offered are the Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Masai Mara Wildlife Adventure , a 12-day itinerary with visits to Kigali and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Masai Mara in Kenya, and Zanzibar in Tanzania. She took a group of female CEOs on the journey last October, saying that “it was absolutely mind-blowing and extraordinary” and that “every single woman on the trip said it was by far the most incredible trip she’s been on.”

Another highlight is the five-day San Juan Islands Tented Camp Experience , a tailored group trip with accommodations set up specifically for each group. On Sarah Dusek’s own visit, she took about eight female CEOs there for a “boutique, five-star tented experience under the stars on a farm,” where they arrived by seaplane and then sea kayaked, hiked, and enjoyed outdoor farm-to-table dinners. The best part: every person could rest assured that their stay used 70 percent less water consumption than staying at an average hotel.

Her own family traveled last Christmas inspired the Enchanting Southern Africa itinerary, a 12-day getaway from Cape Town up to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, before heading to a houseboat on the Chobe River in Botswana. “It was so special because you could be right on the water watching the wildlife morning, noon, and night,” she said. “The boys could fish and we could traverse up and down the Zambezi, experiencing a different view each day.”

After that, the trip boards the luxurious Rovos Rail through Hwange National Park in Bulawayo to Pretoria, before ending in Johannesburg.

Having test-driven every single one of the itineraries on her own is what makes Few & Far’s curation so special. “All of these are very personal to us,” Sarah Dusek said. “They're an expression of who we are — and we love to share them.”

Launching a new travel company was never the intention, with the Duseks selling off Under Canvas in 2019 and moving their family to Cape Town, where they worked as venture capitalists helping empower and fund female entrepreneurs. But they continued to be avid travelers, committed to exposing their sons, now 12 and 15, to as many cultures and perspectives as possible.

During a trip to the Forgotten Mountain’s remote region in northern South Africa’s Limpopo province along the Zimbabwe border, they knew they had stumbled upon something special in UNESCO’s Vhembe Biosphere Reserve . Soon, they had bought a 10,000-acre space, where they’re now set to debut as the 60-room Few & Far Luvhondo eco-lodge at the end of this year. Inspired by weaver bird nests, the site will include a solar-powered aerial experience with a cable car system featuring a 40-kilometer (about a 25-mile) track to provide a uniquely immersive way to explore the African bush and its wildlife.

“We hadn't planned on coming back to the commercial travel space again, but are still so passionate about travel and we still love curating extraordinary experiences,” Sarah Dusek said. “We kept thinking about the safari experience and how to reimagine it for our children and how we could incorporate conservation and travel.”

That forward-thinking eco-first philosophy is what drives all of the Duseks’ efforts. “Outdoor tourism can do so much good,” Sarah Dusek said. “There can be so much harmony with creating an economy, stimulating jobs, preserving wildlife, making sure that our habitats are protected, and that we don't lose biodiversity.”

In fact, through a combination of conservation efforts — largely from tree planting, as well as wetlands management, rewilding, and restoring — the eco-lodge should be on track to sequester as much as 100,000 more tons of carbon a year than it currently does. That’s especially meaningful since the 10,000 acres they own have more biodiversity than in all of Europe.

Additionally, she started looking at the possibilities of helping the rural people, many of whom live in poverty and are generating a revenue stream through tourism. “You start educating people about the difference of what happens when we conserve and protect the land and start investing in the people and then you start to ripple effects in so many levels," she said.

Ultimately, what drives Sarah Dusek is her own dedication to instilling these values in her kids. “I want to show my kids how extraordinary our planet is and I want them to fall in love with it,” she said. “When you're out in it, magic happens and the chances of falling in love with the planet are infinitely greater.”

All of those facets come together in each of the trips through Few & Far — and she hopes that every traveler will be taken by the impact of their adventures. “Travel changes us and has the power to change a belief pattern,” she said. “It shows us that the way we live is not the way everyone lives and maybe not the right way to live.”

In particular that happens the most when she’s out on the great outdoors. “The more time I have spent in the natural world, the more I learn about the people, behaviors, patterns, and cultures in our world,” she said. “That makes us richer and gives us all a chance to realize gosh, all the little things matter.”

For a full list of Few & Far’s trips, which range from $10,000 to $50,000 per trip, visit Few and Far's site .
