4 Nights | 4-DAY BAHAMAS ROUND-TRIP MIAMI: GREAT STIRRUP CAY & NASSAU

You will visit the following 3 places:

Nassau

Nassau - an attractive harbour, a colourful blend of old world and colonial architecture, and a busy port, is the capital and largest city of The Bahamas. The tropical climate and natural beauty of the Bahamas have made the city a popular tourist destination. Nassau is considered a historical stronghold of pirates.

Miami

Great Stirrup Cay

Great Stirrup Cay is a small island that is part of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. Norwegian Cruise Line purchased the island from the Belcher Oil Company in 1977 and developed it into a private island for their cruise ship passengers. The northern part of the island has a sandy beach surrounded by rocks with snorkeling areas. The southern part features a helicopter airfield (with a sign reading "Great Stirrup Cay International Airport"), a large area without vegetation, and numerous concrete blocks. These are all remnants of a previous U.S. military installation and satellite tracking station. The island's lighthouse was originally constructed in 1863 by the Imperial Lighthouse Service. Great Stirrup Cay is adjacent to Little Stirrup Cay, Royal Caribbean Cruises' private island.

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Norwegian Escape

This was my seventh cruise and my fifth NCL cruise. We had a balcony room near the back of the boat on the 11th floor. The room was quiet and the room and balcony are exactly what I had expected of a newer large NCL or RCI ship, I've always discounted reviews of others when they posted negative reviews of food. I'm not a particularly 'foodie' type person. I will clarify my thoughts by saying ... Read More

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Epic

This was our 4th cruise with NCL we have cruised 5 times with Disney and 1 with Royal Caribbean. This will be our last NCL! The staff was rude and they didn’t care about their customers. We waited in 30 minute lines just to get a drink even a soft drink. The food was horrible except at Cagney. The excursion we booked was to include a catamaran but didn’t…they only refunded us 30.00. Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Encore

Last year we were on the Breakaway from New York ( round trip) this week. It wasn't offered in 2024 so we flew to Miami ( which cost a fortune for the five of us) grandparents, daughter and an 11 and 8 year old. We were in a two bedroom suite in the Haven. The bed was terrible ( soft and lumpy) and we had trouble sleeping. It is a beautiful Haven. I don't think it was sold out as the pool was ... Read More

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Norwegian Epic

I should have done my homework before I subjected my family to the EPIC. Embarkation was painless but waiting 3 hours for your stateroom to be ready was painful. The Family Balcony Suite was excruciatingly small. It was dated and absolutely of poor design. The commode was 2 feet from your head while sleeping. The room accommodates at most three guests and somehow they allowed 4 in ... Read More

Disappointment in the quality of this cruise. This is my third NCL and 5th cruise and was the least enjoyable of my experience. The staff was frequently rude in numerous departments. Norwegian Sky 4 day Bahamas cruise

This was our fist experience of cruising so we chose a 4 day one just in case we hated it. This was a fantastic trip full of fun and free booze and food. Nothing is too much trouble for these chaps and fhr the entire time we were aboard it was fabulous. If you are looking to try cruising and you can get to Miami then this is a must. Great value too.

On the Norwegian spirit, it was my first cruise and I had a lovely time. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful and lovely like Miko the room cleaner. The food is good same with the facilities but, some of the rules are pathetic. One of them was you were not allowed to use the golf nets because you had to be 16 same with the main pool, the gym and some other stuff. However I would highly recommend Norwegian cruises because they are lovely but I think they should change some of the rules.

This was our first cruise. Our friends talked us into it, we were VERY pleasantly surprised. We were on the Norwegian Epic in the Caribbean and had a great time! Lots of activities, we esp enjoyed the water slides! The food was delicious everywhere-buffet was great, the Noodle bar was awesome, Taste was terrific, and the Churrascaria was amazing. The rooms were a good size, we had a mid ship balcony, service was quick and attentive, bartenders at Maltings and O'Sheehans were amazing! We had a very good time and are ready to go on another!

As a second time cruiser on the Norwegian Getaway I was very disappointed compared to our first cruise. Be aware that you may not get the room you booked and paid for. We booked for a ocean view room and our view was of the smile face on the deck of the ship. This was also just above the crew members bar area which was noisy at nighttime. I asked for a change of room but was informed the ship was full and they could not accommodate us. Getting off the ship at the end of the cruise was a nightmare. I'm not sure why their procedures for disembarkment changed but it was a disaster. Very disappointed in Norwegian's response to my concerns about our cruise.

NCL cruises have gone from a top mainstream cruise line to the bottom of the barrel.. Food, service and crew friendliness have all declined. Newer ships are crowded, noisy and difficult to move about. No center elevators. No forward observation lounges. Overworked staff (no wonder they always seem angry and unhappy). We were told by some staff that receive none of the "service charges", supposedly added as gratuities. Even specialty restaurants are so-so. Entertainment still very good; if you can get a reservation and find seats. On land the corporate passenger service desk is unreachable and reservation agents become nasty if you enquire about speaking to the corporate office or Latitudes desk. Many other better choices, try Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.

I was informed by multiple members of the staff at the pool and at guest services that I could not throw a ball or play in the kids play pool (main pool) because if I hit someone the security would come, even though most people would call it an accident and forgive me right away. I was told at guest services by one of their many workers that the rules are posted on the sign and on their website. I could not find a website to look at any rules, in fact it was all advertisements and pictures of kids jumping into the pool (which is against the rules) and things saying "Practice your cannonballs…Your kids are in for some serious water play" (again against the rules). If they should say something with the rules it should be posted where people actually look and can see it

Norwegian Sky 4 Day Bahamas Review - Long

By donmattox , January 10, 2011 in Norwegian Cruise Line

Cool Cruiser

First a little set-up. This was my first cruise on Norwegian. Ended up picking the Sky because it fit with the dates I was free while in Miami. I have sallied on Royal Caribbean and also Princess.

Embarkation: What a breeze. Arrived at the cruise terminal just before noon and dropped all luggage off curbside. Then headed up to check in, get a photo taken and hand over a credit card number.. Within minutes we were boarding the ship. No long lines and no waiting. Way to go!

The Ship: I was surprised to hear the Sky was the smallest and oldest of all the Norwegian ships. They sure do keep it in good shape. I liked the colorful carpeting (showing a little wear in the rooms) and each bar and restaurant seemed very different from each other. Started off with a spa tour, then had lunch in the Palace Dining room. Loved the fact we could wear shorts in to eat. After lunch, we set off to explore the ship a little more and learn our way around. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We were able to check into our room around 2pm with luggage arriving a short time later. Unpacked and relaxed. We had a balcony room on Deck 10. Room was fairly small, but I was not surprised at the size. One minor complaint, it’s time to upgrade the televisions to flat screens. It didn’t really bother me, as I didn’t have it on that much anyway. I thought the bed was comfortable and had a good night sleep all four nights. We did have a balcony and that made the room seem a little bigger. One interesting note, we never once met our room steward. His service was fantastic. Our ice bucket was always full, and when we left a note for him to empty out the mini-fridge, he did and then stocked it with our own diet Coke. They sell Pepsi products on board, so we checked a 12 pack of diet Coke along with our luggage and it showed up right to the room. I don’t think they should be too concerned, I had a big bar bill.

Departing Miami: Headed up to Deck 11, the Pool Deck for the sail away party. Drinks and dancing, plus a big BBQ right on deck. Ate again!

Bars and Entertainment: Clearly had two favorites and two favorite bartenders. Don’t miss the 2 for 1 martinis in the Plantation Bar. They have it every evening from 6pm to 8pm. Look for Aan if he is there. Nice guy! Watch for the drink specials, 2 for 1 Mojitos are featured one night at the Atrium Bar. Also, Rudy (Rodolfo) at the Atrium Bar was amazing. Captain Cooks Bar had a 2 for 1 drink special one night on any drinks.

Just a warning, on the pool deck, you will get asked for bar drinks a lot.

Went to the White Hot Party and it was a lot of fun. Be sure to pack something white if you go, or they sell t-shirts on board. The only show we made it too was the On Broadway show and we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted to go to the Pub Crawl and the Martini clinic, but there was just too much going on and missed them both. They both have a fee, as does a murder mystery dinner that you can sign up for. The last night was the adult game show “Quest.” It was extremely funny and we’re glad we went.

Also signed up for the Slots Tournament in the casino. It’s $15 and I have never done something like that before. Too bad I didn’t win.

We also attended two of the art auctions. We wanted to see what they were offering and if anyone was buying. It was a fun experience. Only one person bought something during the first one, but there were a few more sales during the second auction. They also have some fun raffle prizes for attending and I won a chance to take part in the next slot tournament for free.

Restaurants and Food: We did the buffet for breakfast most days. There was lots to choose from. The orange juice machines were not working some of the time. We lunch in the Palace Dining room a few times. At Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise lines private island, there was a nice BBQ. I really don’t have any complaints about the food. After reading some of the reviews on here I was a little nervous.

There are ice cream cones on deck 10, but it’s more like ice milk. There are lots of ice cream choices featured on the lunch and dinner menus along with sherbet and many other dessert choices. Get ready to get sanitized. You get your hands sprayed when you enter the buffet or get back on the ship. You’ll hear “washy, washy” a lot!

Ports: Our fist stop was Grand Bahama Island. The ship docks in an industrial port. We took a 12 mile taxi ride into Freeport. It’s $5 per person each way. Honestly there wasn’t a lot to do. Went to some shops in the market and walked around. We ended up sitting on the beach watching people jet ski and parasail. I was surprised by how chilly the water was. There were some activities we wanted to take part in back on board, so after a few hours, we grabbed another taxi and headed back to the ship.

Luckily our captain was paying attention to the weather forecast. We were supposed to head to Nassau next, but with high winds in the forecast for Thursday, the day we were suppose to go to Great Stirrup Cay, he switched the itinerary. The ship can dock in Nassau, but you have to be tendered to the island on Great Stirrup Cay. If it’s too windy, it’s too dangerous to tender in. Thank goodness we didn’t miss this island. It’s under construction. Norwegian is expanding and the new buildings should be completed in November of 2011. The beach was nice with lots of activities. You could pay to ride a waterslide, or rent a tent with lounge chairs. We pretty much walked around, took pictures, tested out the water and sat in a beach chair. It was the most relaxing day. There are a lot of excursions at all the islands but we decided to go it on our own and we’re glad we did. At the airport I heard another couple talking about how they had to miss their private island because of the weather. I’m not sure what cruise line they were on, but glad we made it to ours.

On Thursday we headed to Nassau. We ended up taking a water taxi to Paradise Island. It’s about a ten minute boat ride from the dock. The tour guide (who works for tips) did a nice job of explaining all the expensive homes and who lives in them. When we docked, we headed for Atlantis. It looks so impressive and we were excited to take a tour. You are able to walk though the gift shops and casino for free, but for a self-guided day pass to tour the hotel it’s $40 and does not include any of the beaches or aquarium. There’s another more expensive package deal for that. We skipped out on that and then headed for a public beach, Cabbage Beach. There were quite a few people there, and we had a drink from the beach bar and relaxed for a while. We also took a water taxi back to the ship after a few hours. It’s $6 round trip by the way.

Spa: If you’re into getting pampered, watch for the daily deals that are featured in the Latitudes newsletter delivered to your cabin. Also, be sure to take the spa tour on day one. You can register for a drawing to win $500 worth of spa services.

Late night night life: There is ALWAYS something going on. We ended up in Dazzles Cabaret for dancing a few nights. As I mentioned, the White Hot Party was another night. If you’re looking for a late night snack before heading to bed, you need to head to Longboards Sports Bar. That’s the only place serving food after 11pm into the early morning hours before the buffet reopens.

The people: Out of all the bars and restaurants we went to, we met the most people at The Plantation Bar during the 2 for 1’s. Not too may were there the first night, but as more people found out about the place, it got more crowded as the week went on. We met some people that we hung out with at dinner for the next several nights. Everyone was so friendly.

Final thoughts: So how much did we like the cruise? Enough to put a deposit down on another Norwegian cruise. It’s a $250 deposit and good for the next four years. You can only get the deal on board. And when you sign up, they credit your on-board account $100. Now I am ready to plan the next one. Getting off the ship was just as easy as getting on. You are able to keep your luggage in your room and leave when you want anytime after the ship is cleared at port. Since we had to catch a taxi for an early flight out of Ft. Lauderdale, we left around 8am and walked off the ship with no lines at all. Impressive.

I second the Plantation Bar!! I am in there every night for those 2 for 1's - they are STRONG!!!

Good review, thanks for sharing!

Thank you SO much for posting this review. My daughter and I are taking our first cruise on the Sky in March 2012 and this helps us get an idea of what to expect, especially at the ports.

Thank you for the review I am booking a cruise for the wife and me, we are planning to sail on a 4 Night cruise to the Bahamas and I am currently torn between the NCL Sky or the RCCL Majesty of the Seas.

Sparks, I enjoyed your cruise pictures. You have a cute family. You all look like you have a great time together!

Thanks to the OP for the review. I can't wait! We sail in 20 days! Thanks for the tips on the drink specials, I will be taking advantage of those!

To the previous two posters, please know that this OP posted this review in January 2011. Drink specials etc. may not be in force when you sail.

Good point. I'm sure they'll have something though, whether it's the same or not. I'm not too picky lol!

Best Bahamas Cruises for 2023

If you're looking for a carefree escape, cruise options to the Bahamas are endless. These are our picks for the Best Bahamas cruises in 2023.

Best Bahamas Cruises for 2023

Share this post:

The Bahamas is a straightforward vacation choice for a carefree, warm-weather cruise. However, so many cruise lines have caught on to the popularity of this island nation that choosing which Bahamas cruise to book might have you a bit cross-eyed.

Gone are the days of just one port call in Nassau or Freeport. Instead, cruise lines are exploring other island chains like Bimini, as well as providing cruisers with their own private island experiences.

The Bahamas makes an ideal weekend getaway, with short cruises from Florida. Or groups can opt for longer voyages from New York or even Puerto Rico. Bring the family for a beachy holiday with all the kids. Or, invite yourself to take a couple’s or solo retreat on an adults-only floating resort.

The best thing about the Bahamas is what a dynamic vacation option it is, offering cruises to suit any time constraint or budget. Plus, it’s one of the destinations that doesn’t require a passport for U.S. travelers.

So, what are you waiting for? These are 2023’s best Bahamas cruises.

EXCLUSIVE SAVINGS: Book Your Bahamas Cruise Now!

Best Budget Bahamas Cruise: Carnival Conquest

Carnival Cruise Line has long been associated with value-packed fun in the sun. The brand’s 3-day Bahamas sailings are no exception. Choose from three different Miami-based itineraries that call on either Nassau, Bimini, or the private island of Half Moon Cay.

From just $154 per person, per night (including taxes and fees) set sail on a vacation with onboard favorites like Guy Fieri’s Guy’s Burger Joint and the RedFrog Rum Bar on the pool deck. The perfect pre-dinner mixology experience is at Alchemy Bar and Punchliner Comedy Club will keep you giggling late into the night.

Best Bahamas Cruises for 2023

Carnival Conquest carries up to 2,980 passengers but there is no room for boredom with Carnival’s exclusive Seuss at Sea programming or playtime by the pool. Escape the crowds with some downtime at Serenity, your ship’s adult-only sun deck.

In port, make memories by horseback riding in the ocean on Half Moon Cay . Or snorkel with reef sharks in Bimini, also known as the Fishing Capital of the Bahamas.

Best 3-Day Bahamas Cruise: Freedom of the Seas

If you’re ready to “weekend like you mean it”, look no further than Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. As one of the best Bahamas cruises, this recently amplified ship offers 3- and 4-day getaways that are perfect for the whole family. Departing from Miami, Florida, get whisked away to Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay for a long weekend of fun and sun.

At Perfect Day at CocoCay, you can enjoy your own mix of thrill and chill. From the towering Daredevil’s Peak in the Thrill Waterpark to a helium balloon ride and zipline, there’s plenty to keep adventure seekers busy. If that’s not your thing, there’s sprawling sandy beachfront and the large Oasis Lagoon pool. There’s even the Coco Beach Club with exclusive amenities or floating cabanas for the ultimate upgrade!

Back onboard, this 3,782-passenger ship features a number of signature attractions like the Perfect Storm waterslides and the Flowrider surf simulator. Best 4-Day Bahamas Cruise: Norwegian Sky

Norwegian Cruise Line boasts the youngest fleet cruising to the Bahamas. The line has a great mix of itineraries and departure ports, which is why it’s chosen here as the best option for a 4-day getaway to the Bahamas this year.

The 2,004-passenger Norwegian Sky joins Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Pearl with four-day voyages from Miami in 2023. Ports include three days in the Bahamas with visits to Freeport in Grand Bahama Island, the capital of Nassau, and Norwegian’s own private island Great Stirrup Cay .

Norwegian Sky, remodeled in 2022, features a different restaurant for every night of your voyage, from French and Italian to an upscale steakhouse. Start your morning with Starbucks at a branded onboard café and end it with a mojito flight from Mojito Bar.

A 4-day Bahamas cruise on Norwegian Sky with open bar, a specialty dining package, shore excursion credit, and free Wi-Fi is $791 per person, including taxes and fees.

Best Bahamas Cruise for Families: Disney Wish

It’s tough to beat the House of Mouse when it comes to family-friendly vacations. Therefore, our pick for the best Bahamas cruise for families in 2023 is aboard Disney’s newest ship, Disney Wish .

A variety of three- and four-day cruises from Cape Canaveral make these short sailings the perfect addition to time at a Walt Disney World resort. Call on the Bahamian ports of Nassau as well as Disney’s magical private island Castaway Cay . Soft-sand beaches with a gentle cove is perfect for littles to splash and play, inviting the entire family to have the best port day ever.

Disney Wish Bahamas Cruise Review

The first-in-class Disney Wish debuted in 2022. It’s the cruise line’s largest vessel, accommodating up to 5,555 guests.

Exclusive spaces and activities read like a child’s wish list, with themed dining experiences ranging from “Frozen” to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Award-winning kids’ clubs are just a drop in the bucket compared to activities for the whole crew, like the immersive Disney Uncharted Adventure or stage production of “The Little Mermaid.”

Adults are not forgotten on a Bahamas cruise aboard Disney Wish. Fine dining restaurant Palo Steakhouse is an upscale adults-only specialty venue. The Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge will impress with cocktails that are out of this galaxy.

In addition to everything onboard and in port, Disney loves to lean into holidays. DCL features special themed sailings to the Bahamas during Halloween and the December holidays. Prices start from $2,081 including taxes and fees for two adults in a cabin.

Best Bahamas Cruise for Adults: Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady

Richard Branson’s cruise line disrupted the industry just prior to 2020. A lot can be said about Virgin Voyages, from its unconventional pricing structure to its adults-only clientele. But if you’re looking for a kid-free escape to the Bahamas, all you need to know is that Scarlet Lady has some great offerings in 2023.

Sailing round trip from Magic City Miami, Virgin’s four-night “Fire and Sunset Soirees” calls on the brand’s private beach club in Bimini, in addition to Key West. Guests 18 and up spend about 11 hours docked in Bimini. This means there’s plenty of time to let loose during a DJ-led pool party or by a beach bonfire.

From Wi-Fi and gratuities to every alternative dining venue (and there are more than 20), fares are inclusive of nearly everything but alcohol onboard the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady. Sailings are priced per cabin like a hotel room (not per person). These four-day Bahamas cruises start from $1,380 per cabin for a sea view room, excluding taxes and fees.

Far from stuffy, this adult-focused cruise line keeps things fresh with racy evening entertainment, a drag show, and a tattoo parlor at sea. The experience begins even before you set foot on the ship, at Virgin’s flashy new Terminal V in the Port of Miami.

Best Bahamas Cruise for Couples: Celebrity Summit

Celebrity Summit graced the scene back in 2001. But this enduring and contemporary vessel is one of the only cruise ships recently rated as a top resort by Forbes Travel Guide. Due to constant upkeep — the ship was fully refit in 2019 — Summit has maintained a modern feel, from its all-suite Retreat to a stellar spa and fitness program.

In 2023, you can sail Celebrity Summit to the Bahamas on a series of four-day voyages round trip from Miami. Calls include Nassau, as well as the trendy island chain of Bimini in the Bahamas or Key West, depending on the itinerary.

Best Bahamas Cruises for 2023

An adults-only Solarium allows relaxation poolside, while Deal or No Deal keeps the adrenaline pumping in the theater with a chance to win cash or a free cruise. By night, inventive production shows and dining experiences like the interactive Le Petit Chef dazzle guests.

At 2,218 passengers, Summit is comfortably mid-sized. Celebrity’s ships are not as overwhelming as megaships featuring top-deck theme parks, but not so small that couples will grow listless.

Best Bahamas Cruise from New York: Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas

The seven-night “Perfect Day” Bahamas cruise onboard Royal Caribbean sails from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey — just about 11 miles from New York City. A view of the Statue of Liberty is just one epic aspect of this Bahamas cruise. As one of the biggest cruise ships around, Oasis of the Seas accommodates up to 5,606 passengers.

This round-trip itinerary is convenient and offers an ideal balance of time in port (two days in the Bahamas with one day in Orlando) as well as two sea days to explore the action-packed ship. A call in Nassau is paired with a thrilling day spent at Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamian island Perfect Day at CocoCay .

During your week onboard, solve an escape room, splash through an age-appropriate water park, or eat your weight in barbecue. Oasis-class ships offer various neighborhoods to explore, from the alfresco Boardwalk complete with carousel to the indoor Central Park alive with real plants.

Availability in May through October 2023 is perfectly timed for summer breaks and graduations. Prices start from just over $100 per person, per night. Plus, kids sail free with two adults booked in a cabin.

Best Quick Getaway to the Bahamas: Margaritaville at Sea Paradise

If you like pina coladas and short getaways, head to Palm Beach, Florida for a breezy, two-day Bahamas cruise. The Jimmy Buffet-inspired Margaritaville at Sea experience — formerly Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line — specializes in short stints to Grand Bahama Island.

If you’re looking for a longer stay, book a four- or six-night package that bundles this two-night cruise with a few nights at a resort on Grand Bahama. All-inclusive options feature the Viva Wyndham or Grand Lucayan properties. Four nights starts at just $399 per person, including transfers and free drinks.

Margaritaville at Sea Paradise review

Well suited to couples, friend groups, and even families, the Margaritaville at Sea Paradise features 659 cabins. There’s also a casino, a kids club, and of course a production show well suited for the ultimate Parrotheads. Have dinner at the steakhouse followed by drinks at Euphoria Lounge or keep it casual with pizza.

By nature of its length, a Margaritaville cruise is a fantastic budget-friendly option. Additionally, military veterans, first responders, law enforcement officers, and even educators are all eligible to sail for free.

It’s easy to book a Bahamas cruise with Margaritaville at Sea, as departures are every other day. The cruise line sails year-round from the Port of Palm Beach. Look for last-minute deals as well as waived single supplements for solo travelers.

Best Extended Bahamas Cruise: MSC Meraviglia

If just a few days in one of the world’s most popular cruising destinations isn’t enough, consider pairing the Bahamas with 10-plus nights aboard MSC Cruises. Sailings span 10, 11, and 14 nights. They provide a leisurely cruise vacation that calls on Nassau as well as Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC’s pristine private island.

The 5,714-passenger MSC Meraviglia is an impressive ship featuring a 315-foot central promenade with shopping and dining. Not to mention, there’s avant-garde entertainment in various venues like the Carousel Lounge. State-of-the-art kids’ clubs plus activities like an aquapark, F1 simulator, sportplex and bowling alley, mean your family will never be bored.

Whether you’re craving sushi or fine Italian cuisine, Meraviglia offers a range of dining experiences for any taste. Numerous bars include pub fare to Champagne. In addition, a chocolate shop or creperie and gelateria are on standby to satisfy any sweet tooth.

MSC’s lengthy New York-based Bahamas itineraries are paired with calls to the many islands of the Caribbean, as well as voyages to Bermuda and Florida. MSC is a fantastic budget-friendly cruise line. Extended sailings to the Bahamas start from less than $65 per person, per night, including taxes and fees.

Every call to Ocean Cay in the Bahamas is a late night visit ending in a spectacular Junkanoo parade and laser lights display.

MSC Seascape Inaugural Caribbean Cruise Review

Best Luxury Bahamas Cruise: Ritz-Carlton’s Evrima

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection takes the hallmarks of the luxury hotel brand and brings them to sea. The 298-passenger flagship, Evrima, offers guests all-suite accommodations. In addition, there’s a sumptuous spa and premium dining options to accompany them on their Bahamas voyage.

Set sail from San Juan for a unique, seven-night cruise combining the British Virgin Islands with the Bahamas. After calls in the idyllic ports of Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke, you will spend three full days soaking up the rays of the Bahamas.

Pair a visit to Nassau with calls to the less-visited islands of Long Island and San Salvador. Distinctive features of these hidden Bahamian ports include secluded beaches, world-class dive sites, and deep caves.

Other weeklong cruises featuring these ports also include departures from Fort Lauderdale with Key West and Great Exuma. Sail dates for Ritz-Carlton’s 2023 Bahamas voyages are in December and begin from $5,500 per person, including taxes and fees.

I would definitely add Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas , a beautifully renovated Voyager class ship, with a highly motivated staff to match…. It proved to be one of our best cruises in our 25 or so in the past 25 years ….

You’ll have to rewrite this later this year. When Allure of the Seas starts doing the 3/4 out of Port Canaveral in November.

Carnival Cruise Line shares a serious warning for its customers

Cruise lines take on a lot of responsibility when it comes to the safety of their customers.

That brief includes keeping them healthy on the ship, ensuring they don't engage in dangerous behavior, and protecting them while in port.

The health issue has been in focus in recent years as the rare outbreak of norovirus on ships tends to overshadow the industry's efforts to keep its customers healthy.

Covid, of course, created a unique situation for the industry, with companies including Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Lines ( CCL ) , and Norwegian spending hundreds of millions of dollars to enhance their health protocols.

Related: Royal Caribbean makes a big change some passengers won't like

Port security has also recently been a major focus in countries including the Bahamas, a destination for many cruises out of Florida, Texas and any East Coast port.

The U.S. State Department's warning sounds scary and puts added pressure on the cruise lines.

"Violent crime, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas," the U.S. government said. The warning specifically named Nassau, Bahamas, one of the world's busiest cruise ports.

All major cruise lines pass those warnings onto passengers and encourage them to book cruise-line-operated excursions. In all cases, the cruise companies work to safeguard their passengers, and that starts on land, according to a new post from Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald.

Carnival wants to keep its customers safe

Heald has become one of the faces of the cruise industry, due to his popular Facebook page. He spends most days answering questions and fielding complaints from Carnival customers about their cruises.

It's a thankless job. While thousands of posts on his site are supportive, Heald often has to deal with very angry passengers. He does that all day, often six days a week, maintaining his trademark self-deprecating humor.

His concerns for his followers and Carnival's customers extend beyond their time at sea, according to a March 4 post.

"And now for something far more serious. Please, please, please remember this Facebook page where you are reading this is the only real page I have," he wrote. "If any of you see other pages please completely ignore it. They are fake pages and they are made only as some kind of scam to extract money from you using my name."

Heald shared an example of the type of scams people are trying to pull off in his name.

"Another example of this happened this past weekend when a lady was asked for a large sum of money not to have her cruise canceled, allegedly by me. I am so sorry 'S' and my colleagues will be taking care of you today," he added.

Carnival's Heald shares online safety tips

As a very public figure Heald is not unique, and many of the tips he outlined apply to other well-known social-media figures as well. His warning, however, got into the specifics of his personal social-media presence:

  • This is the only page I have. It has the Blue Check Mark.
  • I do not have Facebook Messenger.
  • I do not send Facebook friend requests
  • I do have an Instagram account, which is johnhealdccl.
  • I do not have a TikTok account

"These fake pages (there are many) have been reported many times but they are for some extraordinary reason allowed to continue. They are run by heartless, soulless people who have no more right to live on God’s green earth than a Dung Beetle," he added.

Heald's Facebook page now requires people to follow him for 24 hours before they can comment. That's an attempt to cut down on fake posts and people trolling actual commenters.

"I love the note added regarding 'follow this Page for more than 24 hours' has been added," Tina Ensley replied. "It was terrible to receive the replies from fake pages to friend them or even worse suggestions. Thanks for keeping your page safe. Everyone enjoys following you and now we can do so safely."

Cruise Ship Rescues 14 People Stranded at Sea for 8 Days as Passengers Look on in 'Shock': WATCH

'We could see in the waves a tiny boat," passenger Alessandra Amodio tells PEOPLE of the incident that happened aboard the Icon of the Seas on Sunday

norwegian cruise 4 day bahamas

A cruise ship’s voyage to Mexico and the Bahamas turned into a rescue mission when the boat spotted a small vessel in the waves.

On Sunday, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas , the new world's largest cruise ship that launched in January, rescued 14 people who had been stranded at sea for over a week.

Icon passenger Alessandra Amodio told PEOPLE that the cruise ship was in the midst of an eight-day Caribbean itinerary when they spotted the individuals.

"I was in the lunch buffet with my family when we heard a coded announcement over the loud speakers," Amodio told PEOPLE, adding that the announcement came at around 3 p.m. local time. "A few minutes later people started gathering at the windows and then the captain came on and announced that they had found a distressed vessel and we would be turning around to investigate. We all rushed to the windows and in the nearish distance we could see in the waves a tiny boat waving either a large white flag or sheet."

Shortly after, the ship turned around and pulled up next to the boat and "deployed a small zodiac-type rescue boat," she recalls.

@alessandra_rosee/ LOCAL NEWS X/ TMX

"Eventually we saw Royal Caribbean crew helping about two people from the distressed boat onto the rescue boat before returning to the vessel. They then made a few more trips to safely bring everyone on board."

According to Amodio, they later found out that the passengers on the small boat had been "lost at sea for eight days."

Royal Caribibean

"We got a final announcement once they were all on board safely telling us there was 14 people on board," she said, adding that passengers clapped and cheered upon hearing everyone had been rescued safely.

"Our first reaction was shock, I’ve been on six or so cruises and I’ve never experienced anything even close to this," Amodio continued. "During the rescue everyone was more shocked and the general consensus was that this wasn’t something anyone ever thought would be happening. It was crazy to see, even knowing where they were in the water, once they dropped the flag, they were hard to spot. Just seeing this small boat you knew was filled with people surrounded by the vastness of the water was enough to freak you out. "

Royal Caribbean

The ship was on its first full day of sailing and it was between Cozumel, Mexico and western Cuba when the incident happened.

"We weren’t told by the captain or crew what happened to them," Amodio added of the rescued individuals.

The cruise liner, which departed from Miami, Florida, was headed to Roatán, Honduras, and Royal Caribbean's private Bahamian island, CocoCay, during its voyage.

Royal Caribbean told PEOPLE in a statement, "On March 3, 2024, Icon of the Seas encountered a small vessel adrift and in need of assistance. The ship's crew immediately launched a rescue operation, safely bringing 14 people onboard. The crew provided them with medical attention, and is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard."

A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson told Newsweek that the rescue occurred in Mexico's search-and-rescue area of responsibility.

The Icon of the Seas made its maiden voyage out of South Florida in late January. The ship departed from Port Miami and docked at ports including Puerto Costa Maya in Mexico, Basseterre in St. Kitts & Nevis and Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas.

Along with the world’s largest pool and water park at sea, Icon also boasts eight "neighborhoods" to explore and an open-air "Central Park."

The record-breaking vessel overtook Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas , which formerly held the title of largest cruise ship in the world.
