Babybee Miles Travel Stroller: An honest review from a toddler mum

On paper the Miles is the travel pram of my dreams: it’s compact, lightweight and affordable. But is it really all that?

Aussies reveal their favourite winter escapes

Holidaying with a toddler is hard work. In fact, most of the time it doesn’t feel like a holiday at all. You have to do everything you normally would for them, ON TOP of trying to relax or explore a new city.

Then there are those legs. Those little legs that can run forever around playgrounds but god forbid if you ask them to walk a block to get some food. Which is why I love the idea of a travel pram to do the heavy lifting (pun intended).

No longer a clunky stroller that must be checked in at the airport, these days companies like Babybee design prams and strollers like the Miles that are made to move.

They pack down to the size of a carry-on and are almost weightless - all while maintaining a quality similar to that of an everyday pram . The price for the Babybee Miles is on point too, costing $449.99 . Plus, you can save even more when you bundle it up with a car seat, capsule or other baby essential.

To a traveller like myself it sounds like an absolute dream, so when I was offered the chance to test the Miles out I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough.

Honestly, before I got the Miles I’d never used a travel pram. When I took our toddler on her first flight last year I entertained the idea. I researched how to choose the right travel pram , asked my mother’s groups for their suggestions and tested a bunch of popular models at the baby store. But finding that all the prams I loved were $800 or more I left empty handed. I simply couldn’t justify the cost for the few trips we had planned.

Had the Miles come my way then, things may have played out differently because now, after having used it exclusively for two months I can honestly say the Miles stacks up against the best. And I’ve already retired my everyday pram because of it.

What’s to love (and not love)? Here’s my breakdown.

So small, so light, so easy to transport. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: One-hand open and close (no, really)

I have to admit I’m more than a little obsessed with opening and closing the Miles . It’s just so damn satisfying.

To open it, undo the latch on the right, grab the handle bar (one hand is all it takes and I do this at chest-height), give it a good flick and like a ribbon it unravels. I pop my foot on the brake bar for stability and to help it to click into place, but that’s literally it.

To close, it’s even less work (and even more satisfying to watch).

Again, with one hand, you squeeze the buttons on the handle, push down and the pram folds into itself. Then you simply grab the carry strap, sling the pram over your shoulder, and away you go.

Babybee says that it folds in one second and after testing it, I can confirm that's pretty spot on. Unfolding it takes a few seconds longer though as there are a few steps. Either way it’s very impressive and a lifesaver when you’re juggling a suitcase and a kid with only one hand spare.

At 105 centimetres high, the Miles doesn't compromise on height for comfort. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Extremely compact and lightweight

The glowing feature about the Miles is its size and weight. As a petite person I’ve always found my everyday pram awkward to move up and down stairs and into the boot, but the Miles is the exact opposite.

Its slim build and lightweight frame makes transporting it light work, and it doesn’t sacrifice on height to do this either being a comfortable 105 centimetres tall which is a similar height to most everyday prams.

Living in the inner city, I love how slender the frame is as it can weave through narrow parts of the footpath that my normal pram would get stuck in or graze itself on.

When packed down, it’s a little larger than a standard carry-on (23 x 54 x 47cm) and is able to fit into the overhead compartment of planes or in the backseat of the car. It even passes the carry-on weight limit, falling shy of 7 kilograms. There's an in-built shoulder strap for portability but if your carrier requires it, you can also purchase a carry bag for $29.99.

While I haven’t tested it in the air yet, I’ll be taking it with me later in the year and will update this review when I do.

The Miles couldn't get over this lip in the footpath. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Con: Extremely compact and lightweight

Now, being small and lightweight has its drawbacks - and the following as all to be expected from any pram that’s as portable as the Miles .

Firstly, it’s nowhere near as stable as my everyday pram. When turning corners too fast the side wheels pulled up, suggesting you could easily tip it, and your child, over if you’re not careful.

The suspension isn’t fantastic either. Since the wheels are small it doesn’t handle bumps well and struggles to get over footpath lips of two centimetres or higher.

You get used to slowing down and easing the pram over these as you use it but the first time I did it I lifted the back wheels off the ground, tipping it slightly forward.

The first time my husband did it he whacked his shins against the brake bar from the abrupt stop.

Moral of the story? Go slow until you get used to it. That and avoid using it on uneven surfaces if you can. As the manual says, this is a city pram for urban living and weekend adventures, not an all-terrain vehicle.

Pull the latch to convert the Miles into a lie-flat for bub. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Transitions from lie-flat to seated (and everything in between)

Another big selling point of the Miles is its infinite recline system, making it suitable for newborns to toddlers of up to 22 kilograms.

The way it achieves this is absolutely genius. A two elastic loops and a latch hold the back up. When you unhook the loops and pull the latch, the back falls down along with the extra material that’s been tucked behind it to create a surface to lie down on. This isn’t completely flat but has a small incline for bub’s head to be slightly raised.

You can adjust recline to go as far back as you like by stopping the latch at different points. A handy tutorial is available online to see it in action.

This has been an absolute game changer for when my kid falls asleep in the upright position. Instead of leaving her there, or tilting the seat back like I do with my everyday pram, I can instantly lay her down.

She’s never woken up from the movement and looks much more comfortable than in an upright position.

When she wakes, there is a bit of effort involved to get her back upright as I’m pushing against her weight to shorten the strap and tighten the latch. If this is a hassle, I suggest taking your little one out of the pram for a smidge to reset the seat.

Loads of safety features including the 5-point harness and belly bar. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Multiple safety features

The Miles comes with a five point locking system, which, being the mum of a little Houdini (iykyk) is paramount for her safety.

I love how each point is independent of each other so there’s less fiddling around while your child is squirming about.

The harness straps are fairly easy to adjust and tighten. If you get stuck, Babybee has a video tutorial that I found extremely helpful.

There’s also a detachable belly bar for an added level of safety and to pop toys onto. Considering all the single-hand touches the Miles offers, I was a little disappointed that I had to use both hands to remove it as there’s no way to pop only one side off.

As a result I’ve kept the bar off as I don’t use it much these days anyway.

From daycare bags and pool bags, there's so much space in the Miles' storage basket. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Large basket

For such a lean pram the underseat basket of the Miles is surprisingly roomy. I’ve taken it on supermarket top-up trips, daycare and the pool and had no issues fitting groceries or her daycare bag in.

The pool required a bit of squishing. Two towels, two sets of wet swimmers, a stuffed toy (Bluey if you must know), and a change of clothes will do that, but I managed to make it work.

Outside of the basket, there is no other storage which is a bit annoying if you accidentally over shop or don’t have pockets to pop your wallet, phone and keys in.

Due to the curved shape of the handle, you can’t hang any bags to it, and for safety reasons you shouldn’t as it could tip the pram backwards.

There’s currently no option to purchase a Miles handlebar bag from Babybee either, but I reckon a universal bag could easily be popped on.

Personally, I’ve been using the inside of the closed canopy and recline for storage. As long as I don’t need to open them it works a treat. I can fit my phone and keys there for easy access on the move.

Pro: Premium quality and long warranty

As it says on the website , Babybee is on a mission to “make the very best baby products” that are “stylish” and “fun” - and the Miles is no different.

I’ve seen customers online rave about how modern and premium it looks, with more than a few receiving compliments about it.

Similar to other luxury prams on the market, it has a sleek black frame and vegan leather handles that are nice to touch, though not as nice as real leather.

The material is a mix of polyester and melange that’s on the thinner side of things but successfully blocks out the sun and feels as though it could withstand some beating.

To back its quality, Babybee’s prams come with a three year warranty , and each is quality checked before it’s shipped out to you.

Your new travel pram is here! Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Efficient delivery and generous trial period

Speaking of shipping, if you’ve never heard of Babybee before, there’s a reason. Babybee runs off an online-only model , to save you money as well as time heading into the store.

For me, delivery was extremely quick and efficient and I was provided with tracking from the warehouse to my doorstep. Bear in mind, there’s no authority to leave, so ideally you want to be home when it arrives. If not, you’ll need to pick it up from your local post office.

Once Miles arrives, Babybee lets you trial it at home for nine months. If you don’t feel it’s right for you you can return it for free as long as it’s in like-new condition (used indoors only) and with all original packaging.

The seat liner is made from organic cotton and comes free with the Miles. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Loads of accessories, including one freebie

Every Miles travel stroller comes with a free GOTS certified organic cotton seat liner which is a lovely touch. It’s reversible, and is white on one side for a luxurious look and black on the other to hide the stains created by messy kids.

There are loops at the top of the harness to secure it in place. It might be me but it’s not enough to stop my wiggly worm from sliding, and I feel a second secure point on the seat itself could be added to stop this.

Another thing to note is that adding the seat liner makes it a little more difficult to fold the pram. The first time I did it the latch didn’t lock and the pram started unravelling as I was walking!

Over time though the liner has flattened and now I don’t have to worry about double checking the latch before I carry it.

Other accessories you can purchase for the Miles are a rain cover , carry bag , cup holder , snug pouch , lambswool liner and foot cover .

You get so much shade when you extend the canopy. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Pro: Wide brimmed canopy

There are two settings for the canopy on the Miles : a short, standard canopy and an extended, full canopy (pictured above).

During spring, the standard canopy was enough to shade my little one, but as summer rounded the corner the poor thing cried out one afternoon as she was smacked with a face full of sunshine. Since then it’s been full canopy all the way.

Like a suitcase the extension is hidden behind a discreet zipper and adds about 10 centimetres more protection. It’s a world of difference and I feel even when the cooler days are back I’ll continue to use it.

I'm pretty sure this zipper is for ventilation but I prefer to use it to pass snacks to my kid. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Something other customers have brought up is that there is no peek-a-boo window. While that’s true, the canopy extension does have tiny mesh sides to peer though, and there's a zipper at the back of the pram that lets you look in when the pram is reclined.

I’ve also found it handy for passing treats or toys to my kid while on the move.

This was before I lowered the footrest to give my kid somewhere to pop her feet. Picture: Escape/Stephanie Yip

Con: Short seat

Another pitfall of a compact travel pram is how short the seat is.

From the back to the seat to the end of the footrest it measures 35cm, which is 30 per cent shorter than my everyday pram. Now my toddler's long and lanky, so if it may not be an issue for a shorter or younger child, but I was constantly noticing her slide and slouch as we walked.

After making a variety of adjustments, including increasing the height of the harness, tightening the straps, double-looping the seat liner, and lowering the footrest so she could put her feet on the bar below, the situation improved immensely.

However I anticipate I'll have to continue to make adjustments as she grows, which is something I’ve barely had to do with my other pram.

Overall verdict

From the moment I unfurled the Miles travel stroller I was in love. It’s stylish, affordable, compact, light, and for the most part can be used with just one hand. Because, let’s face it, parents always have their hands full.

As a travel pram , it ticks all the boxes: it packs down small enough to fit in the overhead compartment, has a carry strap to sling it over your shoulder for portability, and weighs just 6.9 kilograms .

The full recline system means it can be used from birth and there’s more than enough storage for all the essentials when and out about.

My only concern is that the seat is short, so it might be better suited for smaller children. If in doubt, Babybee offers a nine month trial period .

Personally, I'm intending on keeping it around for years to come. Or at least until my little mini is capable of walking longer than a block for food.

Customer Reviews

Wonderful stroller, great customer service. I would 100% recommend this to product and company to anyone. It’s not too heavy, it’s smooth and the quality is top.

Plus there is a 3 year warranty on the product, which is incredibly useful and not something offered by many companies as far as I have seen.

We originally had an Uppababy Cruz and loved it, however we weren't expecting a second baby so soon so had to upgrade. We were originally just going to go with the Vista, but we did our research and found the Duo2. On paper it had all the same functionality, with the additional ability to have the bassinet in the upper position which ultimately sold it for us over the Vista. We were a bit nervous about buying sight unseen, but we're so glad we took the chance as I'd rate it on par with the quality of our Cruz, and it was half the price of the Vista. It's been a great stroller so far, light weight for a double, easy to pack up and pack down. Can't wait to get many years use with 2 kids.

I love how versatile the Duo2 is! I love that I can have my baby boy face me and the foot rest is quite nice. It’s perfect for a growing family! And all the accessories that already comes with it!! It’s it as wide as the uppababy which I actually prefer and the storage area is humongous.

The one thing I will say is that the canopy when extending it doesn’t fully extend without fiddling with it.

The Ultimate Australian Pram Buying Guide 2020

July 03, 2020

The Ultimate Australian Pram Buying Guide 2020

Everything you need to know before you buy a pram

First things first: the key to finding the right pram is to understand and prioritise the features that are going to be most important to you . No one pram can be a perfect fit for everyone, but understanding what's going to fit into your lifestyle and make your life with a new bub easier will go a long way towards finding the perfect pram!

This guide covers the key info you need to know before you buy a pram:

1. Types of Prams and Strollers and the pros and cons of each 2. Key Considerations before you buy a pram , like how you'll be using the pram, future proofing and budget 3. Pram and Stroller Features including what's available, what's a must-have and what you need to be looking for Lets (st)roll!

Types of Prams & Strollers

There's a lot of variety out there in pram-land, which can be both a blessing and a curse. The first point of call will be understanding the different types of baby transport and the pros and cons of each.

TRAVEL SYSTEMS

Watch: We run you through what a travel system is and how it can make a mum's life even easier!

Travel systems can be configured for use with a bassinet (for bubs aged 0-6 months), stroller seat or infant car capsule (that fits on both your pram and in your car) depending on your need. They can be single prams (like the Babybee ROVER ) or have the ability to add a second bassinet or seat (like the Babybee DUO 2 )

Pros of a Travel System style pram:

Generally, all seating options can face in either direction and the seat typically reclines to 180° flat. They are a great flexible option for new parents who are using a car capsule for their newborn, as well as a bassinet for longer trips in the pram.

Travel Systems can be used from birth and will last up to 4 years depending on the size of the stroller seat. Travel Systems are far sturdier than lightweight prams and offer a smoother ride.

Cons of a Travel System style pram:

Travel Systems are larger in size than most lightweight prams and can be heavier and less compact when folded. They will o ften will have smaller seats than fixed seat strollers and generally can't be used for jogging or off-road terrain.

Things to check: Is the bassinet and/or car capsule included in the price of the pram? What car capsules are compatible with the pram?

FIXED SEAT PRAMS

Suitable for children 6 months and up, fixed-seat strollers will generally have the largest seat-size of any stroller model. They are often lighter and more compact than 2-in-1 models when folded and do not require the seat to be removed when folding. T he fixed seat, however, will mean that you miss out on the flexibility and benefits that come with a reversible seat. Some models will have the ability to use a soft-shell bassinet or cocoon or attach a capsule for newborns.

Did you know that your baby is more likely to fall asleep in a parent-facing pram than in a forward-facing pram? It's all in the eye contact between parent and baby – this not only strengthens the bond between you and your child, but it also makes your baby feel more content and secure therefore encouraging sleep!

Pros of a fixed seat pram:

  • Larger seat back height
  • Generally more compact fold and lighter weight than travel-systems

Cons of a fixed seat pram:

  • Can't reverse the seat or bassinet
  • Often not suitable for newborn

Things to check: Can it accommodate a bassinet or cocoon? What car capsules are compatible (if any)?

DOUBLE PRAMS: SIDE-BY-SIDE

baby bee pram travel bag

There’s no doubt that double prams are a convenient way of transporting two children at once. Especially during a hectic day, the ability to strap both kids into the stroller and get going is priceless. There are many options for two-seater prams and strollers on the market and the first step in starting your research is to narrow down your options by selecting the type of double pram or double stroller that will best suit your family.

Side-by-side prams (sometimes called double buggy's or twin strollers) usually have two, fixed seats and can come with or without a newborn compatible cocoon. Each seat can be reclined independently of the other.

Pros of a side-by-side double pram:

  • Easy to manoeuvre
  • Extremely sturdy and handles uneven terrain easier

Cons of a side-by-side double pram:

  • Wider than tandem or inline prams
  • Usually have fixed seats and less configuration options
  • Larger to fold

DOUBLE PRAMS: TANDEM, 2-IN-1 & INLINE

Watch: All the possible ways you can configure a tandem pram!

Tandem, 2-in-1 or inline pram s are the newest style of double pram to come on the market and offer parents unmatched flexibility for transporting bubs around town. Many of the tandem prams on the market double up as travel systems and can be used in combination of stroller seats, bassinets and car capsules.

Pros of a tandem pram:

  • Some tandem prams double up as a travel system and can be used with car capsules
  • Usually around the same width as a travel system making them easier to squeeze in smaller spaces
  • Perfect for growing families and can be used as a single stroller before your second bub arrives
  • Harder to manoeuvre than s ingle or side-by-side prams
  • Heavier than side-by-side style prams

LIGHTWEIGHT & COMPACT STROLLERS

Sometimes referred to as "umbrella" strollers, these are the cheapest, most compact and simplest form of stroller. They fold up to resemble a - you guessed it! - umbrella, or compact box perfect for travel. Some are specifically designed for air-travel, folding into a carry-on size or coming withe a protective travel bag or case.

Pros of lightweight strollers:

  • They’re great for quick trips and the car
  • Easy to travel with

Cons of lightweight strollers:

  • The fixed seat will only face outward and will not be suitable for newborns
  • Won't be a s sturdy, comfortable or last as long as other strollers
  • Not suitable for any off road terrain or long walks

Things to check: Can it be taken on board as a carry-on? And what are the weight and height limits?

As its name suggests, Joggers or Jogging Strollers are designed to be ran with and have 3 wheels instead of 4. As these are designed specifically for running, they are lightweight with little resistance so they are easy to push. Please note that ALL Joggers are not to be used with babies 0-6 months, with each manufacturer stating different age limits (some say 8 months, others from 1 year onward).

Pros of joggers:

  • The only pram type that is suited for running with your baby
  • Lightweight and designed to be pushed easily

Cons of joggers :

  • Very bulky and wide
  • You must run with the front wheel locked, therefore many people find the steering difficult
  • Many babies and toddlers don't like the movement they encounter whilst in a jogger

Things to check: How many times do you think you will go for a run? Would you get more use from an everyday pram?

Key Considerations

Primary Use

ultimate pram buying guide key considerations

What will you use your pram or stroller for the most? There is no point buying a jogging pram if realistically, you're going running once in a blue moon! If you want a pram to take shopping, then you definitely need something with a good amount of storage space. If you want to take your newborn out, you'll need to ensure the pram comes with either a bassinet or a newborn cocoon to ensure bub is safe and comfortable.

Another key thing to consider is where and who will be using the pram. If you are a single parent or want to be able to take bub out for plenty of activities and in and out of the car, then you will need to look for prams that offer easy folding and aren't too heavy for you to put in and out of a car.

Weight & Size

As a rough guide, lightweight prams are anywhere between 3-8kg, 3 or 4 mid to larger prams are anywhere between 7.5-15kg and double prams are often between 10-20kg. As mentioned earlier, this is extremely important if you intend on taking bub and your pram in and out of your car on your own, so be sure to know what weight pram you realistically could manage on your own.

When it comes to size, compact prams aren't the only option for finding a slimline pram. Many travel systems also offer pram widths from as little as 58cm wide, so be sure to read the exact specifications of all prams before you make any decision. You also want to ensure that the handlebar is at a comfortable height for both parents and can be adjusted accordingly rather than set at a fixed height.

A few things to consider:

  • Will it fit through doors or checkouts?
  • How important is it that it’s simple to collapse and set it up in a hurry?
  • When collapsed is it easy for you to carry?
  • And light enough to lift into your car?
  • Will the pram fit into the boot of your car?
  • Can the handle bar be adjusted to a comfortable height for both parents to use?

Multiple Children

Let's be honest - prams are expensive, so you want to ensure you are getting bang for your buck! Having a think about not just your family situation now, but what the future may hold is important if you want to ensure you get maximum longevity from your pram. Generally 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 travel systems will give you the best flexibility and room for growth with a bassinet, car capsule or seat option. If purchasing for a newborn, parent facing and a fully flat option are recommend by experts for optimal development. Purchasing either a travel system that allows for a second seat or bassinet to be attached to the frame is your best bet in future proofing yourself. A toddler buggy board or skateboard is another great option that allows your toddler to stand on and ride along behind the pram.

Set your budget early and don’t be tempted to exceed it. To some extent you’ll get what you pay for; however; safe, quality, well-designed prams are becoming increasingly more affordable. Retailers markup prices from anywhere between 50-90%, so buying a pram online is a great way to ensure you get a great quality pram that fits within your budget! If you do spend big, make sure you’re getting all the features on your list and a lengthy warranty .

Pram Features To Look Out For

Most pram frames are made from either aluminium or steel. You can get ultra lightweight plastic frames that are cheaper and great for the beach (won’t rust); however, they’re not designed to last long and should be avoided if you are looking to get a good 3 years from your pram. Seats, bassinets and canopies are typically made using a combination of plastic and fabrics. Most pram and stroller fabrics clean up quite well with a damp cloth, but it helps to be able to at least remove parts for easy cleaning if they’re not machine washable. Separate fabric packs (ie. canopies, matres covers) allow you to refresh your look and smell of the pram and extend its life. Other parts such as handles, latches and buttons will usually be made from rubber or plastic, but some stylist designs offer incorporate features such as vegan leather or bamboo lining for that extra hint of luxury.

NEWBORN SUITABILITY

baby bee pram travel bag

Experts recommend the use of bassinets for babies less than 6 months old as the safest travel option for their development and safety. Lying flat ensures your baby’s airways remain clear, reducing the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death – formerly called SIDS).

A flat, firm surface also allows newborns to stretch out and move freely which is important for both muscle and spinal development (your baby is developing rapidly during this period). Some key pram features that are the best option for newborns include:

  • Prams with parent-facing seats are best for newborn bonding and development
  • Bassinet bases with "feet" which ensures the fabric does not get dirty when placed on the ground, ensuring best hygiene practices
  • Bassinets with carry handles to easily transport bub to and from the pram
  • Easy to remove bassinets from pram frames to ensure your bub is not bumped or disturbed whilst sleeping

STROLLER SEAT FEATURES

Key features to look out for to ensure you get the best possible quality stroller seat include:

  • Fully reclinable stroller seat to allow for sleeping
  • On the other hand, you also ideally want the seat to sit fully upright for inquisitive toddlers
  • Seat height is crucial in ensuring you see the maximum life out of your pram - be sure to check the height and additional headroom under the canopy
  • For maximum flexibility, look for prams with reversible seats or handles so the seat can face both forwards and backwards
  • How much leg room will your toddler have and will their feet be far enough away from the ground?
  • Check to see how far the canopy will extend - the more extension, the more protection from the elements
  • Prams with bumper bars are great for kids to hang onto, attach toys to and are an added safety feature
  • Washable seat liners will allow for easy cleaning and increase the life of your stroller seat
  • Some canopies come with a "peekaboo" flap so you can keep an eye on your baby even with the seat facing forwards
  • To ensure the maximum life of your stroller seat, look out for products with a weight .limit of at least 15kg

WHEELS, BRAKES & MANOEUVRABILITY

There are 4 common types of pram wheels:

$ Solid EVA: Light, puncture free wheels made from a rubbery like, plastic. Best suited to even-paved surfaces and indoor floors. The plastic is prone to getting small stones and gravel stuck in or leaving small dents/marks. This won't effect performance it just leaves them looking worn. Found on many cheaper prams and travel strollers.

$$ Solid PU: Slightly heavier than EVA they are made with a high quality rubber substance which is resistant to small stones and gravel and therefore remain in great condition and also last a lot longer than EVA. The density of rubber can vary from hard to quite spongy (almost mimicking air-tyre cushioning). They can be used on any surface.

$$ Air tyres: Heavier again than PU, air-filled tyres offer additional cushioning which is great for rough terrain and outdoor exercise. Like bike tyres, they will require the maintenance, pumping-up and may need to have the inner tube (or whole tyre) replaced if punctured.

$$$ Foam filled: An air tyre filled with foam rather than air. They do not require maintenance but are the heaviest option and typically most expensive.

Key considerations:

  • Does the pram or stroller have front swivel wheels to make manoeuvring easier? It’s useful if they can be locked when travelling at higher speeds or over rough terrain to avoid what’s known an “wheel shudder”
  • Large rear wheels tend to be better on kerbs
  • Is the rear brake easily accessible and easy to use? Linked brakes allow both wheels to brake with a single action rather than individually
  • Front brakes are particularly handy with a reversible handle so you have a brake on both sides
  • Hand brakes will be convenient for jogging prams

As many pre-existing pram owners will tell you - do NOT overlook how important storage is going to be when using a pram. Getting around town with a pram (in particular, navigating small spaces) can be a challenge to get used to. Think about the added pain if you are forced to carry your handbag, drink bottle and shopping in addition to the pram or stroller?

Ensure you investigate how much storage space and the weight limit of the storage space. Prams that offer accessories including a handlebar bag or cup holder are a great option and are very reasonably priced. Additional pockets are also a big win!

SAFETY STANDARDS OF AUSTRALIAN PRAMS

Always look for strollers and prams certified to the Australian safety standards AS /NZS 2088 and look at the date at the end of that number (the most current is 2013).

Some key things to check:

  • The mechanism that activates the brake is red
  • A tether strap is attached to the handlebar that allows the pusher of the pram to be tethered to it whilst in use
  • Seats which recline more than 150° require a head barrier of some sort
  • Does the canopy offer a reasonable amount of shade?

Ready To Stroll!

With so many options out there, buying a pram or stroller can seem daunting to say the least! We recommend having a think about what features are must have vs nice to have, and setting your budget early.

With a bit of research, we know you'll find the perfect pram for you and your family!
