CLUTCH shares more in common with The Grateful Dead, Rush, and the Allman Brothers than their heavy riffs and heady twists-of-phrase might suggest. Because like those bands, the supporters who adore CLUTCH are there for the experience, community, and authentic connection.
To love CLUTCH is to feel a sense of ownership, membership, and belonging.
Seneca Valley High School classmates Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) share an unshakeable musical and personal bond now three decades strong. Shaped by the same region which birthed Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Rites Of Spring, CLUTCH crafts hyper-literate and libertine jams informed by hardcore fury and fuzzy, athletic, stoner rock.
A worldwide cabal of fans and critics cherish the band’s dense and diverse catalog of underground classics, released through major labels, indies, and since 2009, Clutch’s own Weathermaker imprint. Sunrise On Slaughter Beach , the band’s thirteenth studio album, is a slamming summary of everything that makes the band great and another giant leap forward into career longevity.
“There’s no question that Clutch etched themselves a name in the pantheon of great rock bands,” Lambgoat wrote in 2004. Classic Rock Magazine counted 2013’s Earth Rocker and 2015’s Psychic Warfare among the 50 Best Rock Albums of the 2010s. Rolling Stone described 2018’s Book of Bad Decisions as “bathed in the grit and liberal fuzz tone that have made their live shows legendary.”
Those live shows over the years include tours with Slayer, System Of A Down, and Marilyn Manson, and more recent co-headlining treks with Dropkick Murphys, Killswitch Engage, and Mastodon. Like Slayer or Iron Maiden, CLUTCH outlasted rock bands anchored to “hit songs” and the pressure of replicating them. The foursome from Germantown, Maryland, isn’t bound by trends. Across 13 studio albums and assorted releases since 1991, they’ve earned a reputation as one of the best around.

Clutch Announces New World Samurai Tour 2024: Tickets on Sale Now
Clayton Edwards
Updated:
Maryland-based rock stalwarts Clutch will be back on the road this spring. Earlier this week, they announced their New World Samurai Tour 2024. The tour kicks off in late April and will come to a close in mid-May. The short tour will see them making 16 headlining stops and two festival appearances.
Videos by American Songwriter
Clutch won’t be on tour alone. They’re bringing Blacktop Mojo and The Native Howl along to provide support. The tour starts on April 26 at The National in Richmond, Virginia. The final show is a festival date on May 19 at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio.
2023 a Busy Year for Clutch
Clutch has been touring almost constantly since the release of their 13th studio album Sunrise on Slaughter Beach in 2022. Last year, the band released the “complete” edition of Slaughter Beach which contains three additional tracks. They also released a series of five live albums. The PA Tapes capture their live performances from previous tours. Four of the releases capture stops from their 2022 tour: Copenhagen, Denmark; Seattle, Nashville, and Portland, Oregon. The other live release was recorded at the King’s Head Inn in 1993 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Because the band has retained the same lineup—Neil Fallon (vocals/rhythm guitar), Jean-Paul Gaster (drums), Dan Maines (bass), and Tim Sult (lead guitar)—since its formation in 1991, these live albums are a great way to see how well the band has aged sonically since their early days.

Clutch is my favorite stoner rock band. They never disappoint. It was great to see them as the headliner as they played stuff that I haven't heard them play before when they were the support group. The only issue was a group of ten or twelve people who felt that half of the hall was for them only and slammed dance or just were general assholes. I mean slam dancing for Clutch makes no sense.
I love Clutch and you can tell that they love their fans and love is returned. Please come to the Bay Area as often as possible.

Well last night show was one of the best I've seen in a very long time, it's nice to actually see a showman like Zack Wylde perform and melt your face off as my buddy Daniel would say. He showed us how it was done last night, even got an up close (meaning he was standing 3' from us) solo from the crowd during Warpigs.
Then Clutch comes like the powerhouse that they are and blew the roof off the place. Total energy from start to finish.
But I will not forget to mention Kyng either, a great band from the LA metal scene. Opened the show in fine fashion with some heavy riffs, phenomenal vocals, and a true sense of how to get a crowd going. If you have a chance to catch this tour, I HIGHLY recommend you do!!!!!
The show opened with The Wexford School of Rock kids who were fantastic. They covered 4 or 5 popular metal songs including one of Clutch's in which Neil Fallon came out to help them sing.
Next came Kyng, a metal band out of L.A.. I was not familiar with the band, but they were clearly a very tight 3 piece. Their music was good and sound.
Zakk Wylde's cover band, Zakk Sabbath, followed up Kyng. If you enjoy Sabbath, and I love Sabbath, then you should definitely see this group before they return to their normal jobs.
If you've never seen Clutch. This is one of the great acts of this generation, both studio and live. Their music appeals to all types of rock and metal fans, and it is all well comprised. I've seen them twice and I will see them every time they come around.

Clutch, Dinosaur Jr., and Red Fang Announce 2023 North American Tour
The post Clutch, Dinosaur Jr., and Red Fang Announce 2023 North American Tour appeared first on Consequence .
Clutch , Dinosaur Jr. , and Red Fang are heading out on a Summer 2023 North American tour together.
Dates kick off July 21st in Washington, D.C., and run through August 5th in Denver.
A Live Nation ticket pre-sale has begun for select dates using the code OPENER , with general ticket sales starting Friday (March 17th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . You can also look for deals and pick up tickets to sold-out gigs via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.
The eclectic trifecta of Clutch, Dinosaur Jr., and Red Fang stands one of the most intriguing tour packages of 2023. The run will follow Clutch’s previously announced spring headlining jaunt (which begins in April), while the newly unveiled dates are the only non-festival shows on the books for Dinosaur Jr. in 2023.
Meanwhile, sludge-metal vets Red Fang will return to the road, following up a strong 2021 campaign and touring cycle in support of their latest album Arrows .

Clutch Flesh Out North American Tour
Clutch – Story by Anne Erickson, courtesy photo
Clutch have added more dates to their 2023 tour
Longstanding metal band Clutch have added more tour dates to their already lengthy 2023 North American tour roster. The new leg, which marks their third of the year, will kick off Aug. 9 in Seattle, Washington, and keep the guys on the road through an Aug. 27 date in Charlotte, North Carolina. As for openers, Giovannie and The Hired Guns and Mike Dillon & Punkadelick will serve as support.
Those looking for tickets will be able to take advantage of a Live Nation pre-sale starting Thursday (April 6th) at 10 a.m. local venue time via Ticketmaster using the code VINYL. General ticket sales start Friday (April 7) at 10 a.m. local time.
The touring news comes right before Clutch kicks off the spring leg of the tour, which begins April 11 in Norfolk, Virginia. Openers for that trek include Nate Bergman and Amigo the Devil. Clutch’s second leg will see support from Dinosaur Jr. and Red Fang. That trek will hit just over a dozen cities, beginning July 21 and running through Aug. 5. That’s a lot of tour dates, but Clutch are known as a band that performs as many shows a year as possible, so it’s not a big surprise.
View the full roster of Clutch’s 2023 North American tour dates below. The following tally includes their previously announced shows, as well as the new ones.

In a recent interview with AndrewHaug.com , CLUTCH drummer Jean-Paul Gaster was asked if there is a "retirement plan" in place for him and his bandmates. Gaster replied: "No, there is no retirement plan in the future. We're gonna do this for as long as we can possibly do it. We still enjoy it. We just wrapped up a very extensive European tour, probably the longest we've done over there. And it was certainly difficult to do, and it was tiring, but it was also probably one of the most exciting things I'll ever do for my entire life. It was amazing. It was an experience of a lifetime. And I think we all feel like that. This opportunity to play music is such a special thing. And I think we all appreciate it more. And so we're just gonna keep doing this thing for as long as we can. We really enjoy it. I enjoy making music with these guys. It's a very special thing."
Gaster 's bandmate, CLUTCH singer Neil Fallon , previously discussed the group's longevity in an interview with RVA magazine last year. He said: "The way I calculate success is like, you got to do something that you love, and that's all you have to do. Most of our friends that are in bands or are musicians have to relegate that to weekends, maybe. I've known plenty of musicians that bang their head against the wall for years, to no avail. And sometimes things are looking good and then fate just deals them in, all four hands. But you know, we've stayed committed, through feast and famine as well. Sometimes you can generate more quote-unquote 'luck' the harder you work. But I also understand it's a rare thing, to have the same lineup and to be able to do this. And as every tour passes, every year passes, I think we get more and more defensive and protective about it, because we realize that we dodged a lot of bullets along the way. We don't, and we shouldn't, take any of it for granted. I mean, the last two years [of the pandemic] was sort of a preview of what retirement might feel like. And it's a drag. We don't want to do that."
CLUTCH 's thirteenth studio album, "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" , was released in September. The LP, which was recorded at the The Magpie Cage Recording Studio in Baltimore, Maryland, was produced and mixed by Grammy -nominated Tom Dalgety ( GHOST , ROYAL BLOOD , PIXIES ) with additional engineering by J Robbins ( JAWBREAKER , AGAINST ME! , THE SWORD ).

...the high energy performance had the crowd doing that in a beautifully chaotic storm of chanting, fist pumping, horns held high, bouncing, moshing, crowd surfing, singing and every other thing that makes a great rock show a spectacle to behold.

The hard rocking quartet hits the road
Clutch Clutch
Why see Clutch?
On the road.
Frederick, Maryland rock quartet Clutch burst out of their sleepy hometown to capture mainstream attention with their heady blend of alternative metal, grunge, pop and psych rock in the early 90s. Formed in high school, the hard-working heavy rockers have toured relentlessly over 25 years, combining a tireless work ethic with high-energy performances that keep their fans coming back to every gig.
Purveyors of the quintessential rock show experience, Clutch suck their adoring audiences into a chaotic, yet addictive whirlwind of chanting, moshing and crowd surfing whilst performing seminal hits like Pure Rock Fury, Electric Worry and Earth Rocker. Serving up these unapologetic rock and roll hits with a habit of shaking the foundations of venues to their core, the outfit's lasting legacy is one best experienced live and in the hot-blooded flesh.

Clutch has been on the music scene since the 90s, which means they’ve had over 30 years to hone their craft and to run tours and concert events throughout their life. So it’s no surprise to anyone that they’ve developed quite a history.
In the early years, they spent most of their time running gigs to make money and get their name out there. While they had local acclaim and fans, it wasn’t until later in their career that they really hit the superstardom they enjoy today.
In fact, the band only had over 40 formal concerts in the period between 1992 – 1996. This trend of sporadic appearances would continue until 1998, which saw Clutch playing 31 concerts in that year. And many of these concerts were held in US venues, including a legendary show at the KUFO Rockfest 1998, in Portland Oregon’s Portland Meadows.
The band kept up this pace over the subsequent years, but hit their first major concert touring breakthrough in 2005 when they played over 100 concerts in that year alone. It had reportedly been their busiest year as a live performing band, with many critics considering this the peak of Clutch’s early work. And until 2013, this would be their trend to host over 100 concerts every two to three years on average.
The band slowed down starting in 2014, but not by much, as the band played an average of 70+ concerts each year in venues across the world. Except for the 2020-2021 years, when the band had to scale back their live performances due to the Pandemic.
But the band is back at their best in 2022, with 86 concerts planned and performed to date, including their current tour.

Those live shows over the years include tours with Slayer, System Of A Down, and Marilyn Manson, and more recent co-headlining treks with Dropkick Murphys, Killswitch Engage, and Mastodon. Like Slayer or Iron Maiden, CLUTCH outlasted rock bands anchored to "hit songs" and the pressure of replicating them.
