Fruity and Juicy with a Beautiful Balance!
2017 was not the vintage of the century but a lot of very good wine was made. A late April frost damaged many vineyards but those who survived with rewarded by a dry but not too hot July and August. Consequently, the grapes ripened correctly but the wines have a degree less alcohol and more freshness, which is no bad thing, compared to the vintages either side of this one.

STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
Canon-Fronsac is a sub section of the Fronsac appellation, the best part or the ‘classico’ section as the Italians would say. The soils of Fronsac and Canon Fronsac are essentially limestone and clay-over-limestone on the plateaus and hillsides, with areas of siliceous – sandy – clay at the foot of the slopes. The region is a bit of a hidden gem, unfairly overlooked in the rush to buy the classified wines of the Médoc and Saint-Émilion. Chateau Canon has almost 9ha of vines with an average age of 40 years, 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and is aged 50% in barrels and 50% in vats.

Decanted 3 Hours. Upon decanting strong leather book color w/tight cherry aroma. Initial pour: Nose of light tar, big plums & cherries w/Strong legs. Flavor of tart cherries, lead pencil & taut leather w/full oak finish. Went well with appetizer: Cheese tray w/sun dried tomato's & walnuts. Entrée of Cheese Rotolo w/Alfredo sauce & Italian Sausage

Decanted 1 Hour. Upon decanting very pleasant lovey fragrant plum aroma. Good balance leg's with light tar & cranberry nose. Flavor of figs, light lead pencil w/balanced oak finish. Went very well with Greek Lamb Chops

Medium ruby to garnet wine with medium-intensity aromas of blackberry, cocoa, lavender, black pepper, and bell pepper. Medium-intensity taste of sweet black fruits, chocolate, red fruit, smoke, and minerals. Medium plus acidity with soft tannins. High alcohol that you do feel 😳, but a good value Bordeaux that you can age for a few years.

This Canon Fronsac produced by Chateau du Gazin whilst remarkably approachable and ready to drink upon release, may also be cellared for five to ten years, giving a softer, more complex wine. Ripe and almost lush, soft and cuddly like a teddy bear.
A Blend of Tradition and Innovation. In most cases, it will be 'topped up' with a little Cabernet Franc and possibly Cabernet Sauvignon. The best results are as seductive as any Pomerol: supple, rich, and juicy on the mid-palate.
