Pakistani PM Sharif due in Turkey on 3-day official visit
By daily sabah.
Pakistan’s prime minister is set to arrive in Turkey on Tuesday on a three-day official visit to address bilateral relations and regional developments with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The trip will mark Shahbaz Sharif’s first visit to Turkey since he assumed office in mid-April after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted in a no-confidence vote following political turmoil.
Sharif’s meeting with Erdoğan will cover the “entire gamut” of Pakistan-Turkey bilateral relations and address regional and international issues, a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said Monday.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the prime minister will also have “extensive interaction” with leading Turkish businesspeople and potential investors from a range of industries, the statement noted.
A business delegation from Pakistan comprising representatives of leading companies across various sectors will travel separately to Turkey to participate in the business engagements, it added.
Sharif will also attend a Pakistan-Turkey Business Council Forum, hosted in collaboration with the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK).
“During these events, the prime minister will highlight Pakistan’s vast investment potential and encourage Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan and work to strengthen Pakistan-Turkey trade and economic ties,” the statement said.
“Prominent businesspeople from Pakistan will participate in these events and will also hold B2B meetings on the sidelines,” it added.
Turkish companies have invested more than $1 billion in Pakistan in different sectors, including construction, power, solid waste management, hygiene products, electronics and dairy.
This year, Pakistan and Turkey are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, underpinned by structured institutional mechanisms.
The High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council is the primary platform at the leadership level, which has been instrumental in further cementing bilateral relations.
Six sessions of the HLSCC have taken place so far, with the 7th slated to take place this year.
“The historic and long-standing relations between Pakistan and Turkey are firmly anchored in common faith, shared history, and a glorious tradition of mutual support to each other on issues of core interest,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“The Turkish leadership and government have steadfastly supported the just cause of Kashmir. Turkey is an important and active member of the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir,” it noted.
“The two countries have convergent views on a range of issues including peaceful and stable Afghanistan, Palestine and countering Islamophobia,” it added.
The statement said Sharif’s visit to Turkey “is important in the context of deepening and broadening bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, regional connectivity, health, education, culture and people-to-people relations.”
“It will help in further strengthening the leadership dialogue and existing multidimensional strategic relationship between the two countries and will impart fresh impetus to the efforts to take this unique partnership to new heights,” it added.

PM Shehbaz Sharif, foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto and other officials were supposed to visit Turkey for solidarity on February 8
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Turkey on Thursday, a week after Ankara cancelled Sharif’s visit amid relief and rescue operations after the powerful earthquake that killed over 38,044 people in the country.
Shehbaz Sharif met Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and conveyed the Pakistani nation’s “heartfelt condolences” over the damage and loss of precious lives caused by the tremors.
“I assured him of our steadfast support to Turkey. I am confident that under [the] president’s leadership, Turkiye will emerge from this catastrophe stronger,” he said.
In a meeting with my brother H.E. President @RTErdogan , I expressed profound condolences to him on behalf of people & govt of 🇵🇰. I assured him of our steadfast support to 🇹🇷. The Pakistani PM, who is on a two-day trip, was welcomed by the Turkish President at the presidency in Ankara.
Sharif on Thursday announced that he is “leaving for Turkey with a message of unwavering solidarity”.
“I am leaving for Türkiye with a message of unwavering solidarity and support for our Turkish brothers and sisters from the people and government of Pakistan. True to the spirit of one nation living in two states, we consider their loss as ours,” Sharif tweeted.

The visit by Pakistan PM came a week after Turkey had cancelled Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to the country as it was busy in earthquake rescue and relief operations.
PM Sharif, foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto and other officials were supposed to visit Turkey for solidarity on February 8.
However, two days after cancelling Shehbaz’s visit, Ankara gave a go-ahead to Qatar’s Emir to visit along with a high-level delegation.
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, visited Turkey on Sunday and met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Pakistan government sent medical squads, search and rescue teams, and relief materials via two military aircraft and one passenger plane to Turkey to help rescue victims, according to the military media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Pm shehbaz to leave for 3-day turkey visit tomorrow.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a three-day trip to Turkey tomorrow (Tuesday), Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Monday.
The visit is part of efforts to renew bilateral relations with Pakistan's trusted friends and brotherly countries, she said in a series of tweets.
In addition to promoting relations between the two countries, the minister said the visit would be important for enhancing cooperation in various sectors including investment, trade, health, education, culture, and other areas of mutual interest.
The Pakistani delegation is also slated to attend a meeting of the Pak-Turk Business Council and engage with Turkish businessmen and traders.
Aurangzeb said PM Shehbaz would visit the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
The premier, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will also issue a commemorative plaque to mark 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, she said.
The minister added that Erdogan would host a dinner in PM Shehbaz's honour.
Earlier this month, the prime minister had proposed turning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into a "trilateral arrangement" between China, Pakistan and Turkey so that all three nations could benefit from its potential.
He had made the remarks while addressing a launching ceremony for the third Milgem corvette built by Turkey, where he was the chief guest. In a video message on the occasion, Erdogan had said his country wanted to share its expertise with Pakistan in the area of defence, adding that the Milgem project was one such example.
Separately, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, in their maiden official meeting on May 18, had vowed to bolster economic ties between the two countries.

Turkey allows Qatar Emir’s visit days after cancelling Pakistan PM Shehbaz's visit amid earthquake
Earlier last week, turkey directed pakistan's prime minister to cancel his visit to ankara as the country's ministers are busy with relief and rescue operations..
The major embarrassment for PM Sharif came at the very last moment when he was scheduled to visit the devastated country on Wednesday morning. According to Pakistani media reports, PM Sharif and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto were scheduled to visit Ankara on February 8 in solidarity with the victims killed in the earthquake. However, the host country denied their entry saying "its ministers have no time to entertain Pakistani PM and delegation".
Turkey allows Qatar to visit Ankara
However, Ankara has allowed Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to land in their country and arranged an immediate meeting with its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Interestingly, Qatar donated 50 million Qatari riyals, an air bridge equipped with relief and health materials and 10,000 mobile homes on Friday.
Notably, Turkey, which is the worst-earthquake-affected country, was hit by a massive quake on Monday, resulting in the killing of more than 36,000 people. According to the Turkish authorities, the toll is expected to only rise in the coming days as thousands of people are still trapped under the debris of skyscraper buildings.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb informed that the debt-ridden Prime Minister would leave for Ankara on Wednesday morning. “He will express his condolences and condolences to President Erdogan for the destruction of the earthquake, the loss of life, and the people of Turkey. Due to Prime Minister’s visit to Turkey, the APC convened on Thursday is being postponed, a new date will be announced in consultation with the allies," she said.
Bad weather?
Hours after her tweet, Azam Jamil, former special assistant to Prime Minister, took to social media and wrote, "The last thing Turkey wants at a time like this is to look after state guests. Please send relief staff only." Citing sources in Pakistan's foreign ministry, Express News reported that Sharif's visit has been postponed due to bad weather and the Turkish leadership's engagements related to the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
It added that Pakistan's premiere would not be able to visit the affected areas as the helicopter could not fly during bad weather. Also, it noted that president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his vice president are also engaged in relief activities.

Islamabad [Pakistan], November 25 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed in Turkey for a two-day visit to the Western Asian country for deepening the defence cooperation between the two countries.
Taking to Twitter, Sharif said, “Being in Turkey feels like being home, overwhelmed by the warmth of our Turkish brothers and sisters. Our bilateral ties have entered a new era of strategic partnership under the leadership of President Erdogan. We are on course to unpack the full untapped potential of relationship.”
Upon his arrival, PM Sharif was received by Istanbul’s deputy governor, senior Turkish civil and military officials, and diplomats of the Pakistani Embassy and Consulate at the Islamabad International Airport, Geo News reported.
The prime minister is undertaking the visit at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Before leaving for Turkey, the Pakistani PM said that he is there to inaugrate the third MILGEM Corvette Ship, which represents the deepening of defence cooperation.
“Leaving for 2-day visit to Turkiye at the invitation of my brother President Tayyip Erdogan. Inauguration of third MILGEM Corvette Ship represents deepening of defence cooperation between our two brotherly countries. High-level exchanges are a defining feature of our partnership,” he said in a tweet.
According to Geo News citing a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the two leaders will also hold wide-ranging discussions encompassing bilateral relations, the regional situation and other issues of common interest.
During his stay in Istanbul, the president of the ECO Trade and Development Bank (ETDB) will call on the prime minister, the FO said, adding that the PM will also interact with the leaders of the Turkish business community.
Pakistan and Turkey enjoy a good relationship where the latter has supplied various models of combat UAVs to the former country, according to The Balochistan Post-English.
According to the information on the microblogging site Twitter and Pakistan-based defence blogs, Chinese CH-4B UAVs were spotted over Bolan, Balochistan, where the rebels killed two SSG Commandos, reported The Eurasian Times.
Notably, the MILGEM project, based on joint collaboration between the two countries, represents a significant milestone in the Pakistan-Turkey strategic partnership that continues progressing on an upward trajectory, Geo News reported.
It is pertinent to mention here that the launching ceremony for the first Corvette for the Pakistan Navy, PNS Babur, was performed in Istanbul in August 2021 while the groundbreaking for the Second Ship, PNS Badr, was held at Karachi in May 2022.
PM Shehbaz Sharif last visited Turkiye in May-June 2022, reported Geo News. (ANI)

Turkey’s Erdogan expected to visit Pakistan next month
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to visit Pakistan next month.
Sources privy to the development told ARY News that the Turkish president will undertake an official visit to Pakistan in the first week of August. He would be accompanied by a high-level delegation including Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
During his stay in Pakistan, Erdogan will hold a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss matters pertaining to mutual interest.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will hold a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The two sides would sign a range of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for enhancing economic and trade cooperation in different sectors, they say.
It is pertinent to mention here that PM Shehbaz Sharif last month travelled to Turkiye to join the world leaders in the inauguration ceremony of President Erdogan.
During his stay in Ankara, the prime minister met a number of world leaders and discussed avenues of cooperation in various fields.

Middle East latest: Netanyahu 'hurting Israel more than helping', Biden says - and warns Rafah invasion is 'red line'
In some of his most pointed criticism of the Israeli prime minister yet, Joe Biden has said Benjamin Netanyahu is "hurting Israel more than helping Israel" and should "pay more attention to the innocent lives being lost" in Gaza.

At least 31,045 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's military offensive in Gaza since 7 October, the Hamas-run health ministry has said.
A further 72,654 have been wounded, it added.
Sky News is unable to verify the figures.
Hamas launched attacks in Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and taking hundreds more hostage.
Israel has since been targeting Hamas fighters and infrastructure in Gaza.
Palestinians in Gaza are preparing for Ramadan, which is beginning tonight and tomorrow, depending on location.
Some displaced Gazans, living in tents in Rafah, have been hanging lanterns and creating home-made sparklers.
It was hoped there would be a humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and Hamas by now, but that appears to be very unlikely.
Previously, retired Israeli general Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet, indicated a ground invasion of Rafah may begin around the start of Ramadan.
He told a conference of Jewish American leaders: "If, by Ramadan, our hostages are not home, the fighting will continue to the Rafah area ."
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar .
It is marked worldwide with communal prayers, self-reflection and charity.
People protesting against the Israeli government have blocked a highway in Tel Aviv.
There were scuffles with security forces as they called for a new administration.
Some were dragged away by police and water cannons were used.
Watch how the scenes unfolded below:
A ship carrying aid from Cyprus to Gaza will be one of very few to dock in the Palestinian enclave since Hamas took control in 2006 and Israel imposed a sea blockade.
"There is very little precedent for this," says our Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall , who is in the Cypriot port city of Larnaca.
The ship is due to leave from there at about midday, and is important because others could follow.
The vessel is run by Open Arms, an independent Spanish organisation, while World Central kitchen - a US aid organisation - will be helping to deliver supplies.
A lot of funding has been provided by the UAE and the ship is sailing as part of an EU initiative.
High-tech scanning is being used to reassure the Israelis about what is being provided, and Israeli officials have been to Larnaca, Bunkall said.
A US initiative to provide aid by sea could take another 60 days to set up, he added.
It is on a larger scale, involving a floating pontoon stretching out from Gaza, enabling military ships to be brought in.
Benjamin Netanyahu is "hurting Israel more than helping", Joe Biden has said.
The American president also said Israel "cannot have 30,000 more Palestinians dead" as a "consequence" of pursuing Hamas fighters.
Inflicting mass civilian casualties is also "contrary to what Israel stands for", he added.
Washington has urged the Israeli prime minister not to begin a major offensive in the southern Gaza town of Rafah until a plan is in place for the mass evacuation of civilians.
More than half of Gaza's 2.3 million people are in the Rafah area.
An IDF invasion there would be Mr Biden's "red line", he told MSNBC.
He immediately appeared to backtrack, however, saying he was "never going to leave Israel".
"The defence of Israel is still critical," he said.
"So there's no red line [in which] I'm going to cut off all weapons so they don't have the Iron Dome [air defence system] to protect them."
He insisted, though, that Mr Netanyahu "must pay more attention to the innocent lives being lost as a consequence of the actions taken".
And he reiterated his call for a six-week ceasefire to enable hostages to be released and aid to be delivered.
Welcome back to our coverage of the Israel-Hamas war.
Yesterday, Israel struck one of the largest residential towers in Rafah, in southern Gaza, where more than 1.5 million people are trapped with nowhere to go.
And preparations were under way for a food aid ship to Cyprus and sail to Gaza.
Meanwhile, among the tens of thousands who joined a pro-Palestinian march in London was the Welsh singer Charlotte Church, who has been vocal about her support for Gaza.
She said she joined the protest to "show solidarity with the people of Palestine for all that they are suffering through".
Here are the other key developments over the past 24 hours:
- Gaza's health ministry said at least 30,960 Palestinians have been killed and 72,524 wounded in Israel's military offensive since the 7 October attack;
- The chief of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency said the organisation was "at risk of death" but said he was "cautiously optimistic" some donors will resume funding soon;
- The US military and coalition forces downed at least 28 drones over the Red Sea.
A US army vessel has set off for Gaza carrying the first bits of equipment to build a temporary port which aims to deliver more humanitarian aid to the region, according to US Central Command.
The General Frank S Besson left Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia "less than 36 hours after President Biden announced the US would provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea", CENTCOM said.
It comes after warnings of widespread famine among millions of Palestinians in Gaza.
By Jason Farrell , home editor
Busloads of demonstrators came from across the UK to march through London calling for a ceasefire in Gaza on Saturday - the 10th demonstration of its kind since the conflict began.
For all the drums, horns and clamour of this protest, the build-up to it has had more political noise than most, with the prime minster telling police chiefs that mob rule is replacing democratic rule and making a speech on the steps of Downing Street warning of extremists infiltrating the march.

Charity workers have been loading relief supplies bound for Gaza on to a barge in Cyprus today as part of an international effort to launch a maritime corridor to Gaza.
The European Commission had said a maritime aid corridor between Cyprus and Gaza could start operating as early as this weekend in a pilot project run by an international charity and financed by the UAE.
The Open Arms, a salvage vessel owned by a Spanish NGO, has been moored at a port in the coastal Cyprus town of Larnaca, 210 miles northwest of Gaza.
It will tow a barge with 200 tonnes of food sourced by charity World Central Kitchen and mostly funded by the UAE.
It is an estimated 15-hour journey by sea to Gaza, though a barge tow could make the journey longer.
The IDF is coordinating a temporary or floating dock to get more humanitarian aid into Gaza, a spokesman has said.
In a statement, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said Hamas "had been stealing humanitarian aid and stockpiling equipment and food for Ramadan".
"In coordination with our partners in the US and US Central Command, we are coordinating a temporary floating pier to get more humanitarian aid to Gaza," he said.
"We will continue our humanitarian efforts while we continue to dismantle Hamas military capabilities and do everything we can to bring our hostages home."
Explained : A temporary or floating dock is used to allow boats and ships to moor up further away from the shore - generally so they can stay in deep enough water.
They've been used various times throughout history. Perhaps the most famous example were the floating mulberry harbours that Allied forces used during the D-Day landings.
