The 1975's Melbourne show was insanely energetic even though Matty was apparently not feeling 100%. You wouldn't have known that he'd tweeted the night before apologising for being sick and mentioning that People might be dropped off the setlist due to his voice not being able to cope. Luckily, it was not dropped and proved an amazing opening song to get everyone up and dancing. There were three songs which really stood out over the course of the show: firstly, Love It If We Made It. It was apt that the climate strike had taken place the actual day that the Melbourne show was on, so Matty took it upon himself to do a little spiel about climate change which was (as usual) inspiring. The song itself was full of energy and great staging. Love Me sounded much better live than in studio which was a surprise for me! Finally, Sex was absolutely fantastic: everyone was screaming every word and Matty jumping up and down on stage. My only issue was that Girls was taken off the setlist which is understandable seeing as they're probably sick to death of playing it but I think they owe it to everyone to play their classics like Girls (Arctic Monkeys would never drop Do I Wanna Know despite Alex constantly complaining about how he's sick of it nor would Green Day drop American Idiot!). Genuinely an 8.5/10 and a fantastic night. (Matty in the pleated skirt was also a highlight!!!)

My first concert. My favourite band.

Belsonic music festival is an intimate venue so I was in touching distance of the foursome. As the intro played in, the crowd erupted as we caught the first sight of Ross (bass guitar), followed by George (drums), Matty (vocals) and finally Adam (rhythm guitar). The boys filed on to 'Love Me' and got the party started. Favourites from both albums followed such as 'A Change of Heart' and 'Menswear'.

As the sky began to darken Matty decided it was time to address the audience, cigarette in hand. Stating he loved Belfast and reminiscing about the time they first played Belfast to only 25 people, I could hear loyal fans shouting, "we were there! We were there!" Matty continued to talk about the world and how a 'revolution' was imminent, saying that it looked a lot more "emo these days". I tried to capture his little speech on my phone like many others, when Matty told us all to put our phones down for one minute, telling us we would "enjoy the next ten minutes much more than if it was on our iPhone." The sea of people dropped their devices (me included) and swayed to the transcendent sound of 'Me'.

The second half of the show was truly electric with a rainbow flashing on stage to 'Loving Someone' as two shared a kiss to my left. Then came the ever a party starter 'Girls' and 'She's American'. The true spectacle of the night was 'Sex' however, a light show in its own right, and a religious experience.

Finishing their set the crowd chanted, "one more song! One more song!" The guys obliged and then some, coming back out to play three scintillating tracks: the hymn - like 'If I Believe You', the classic 'Chocolate' and banging 'The Sound'.

The 1975 are a band that not only perform with such energy track after track, but put on an impressive light show and with a prophetic front man foretelling the future, I would recommend anyone witness their excellence for themselves.

From Vancouver, BC. PNE Forum May 1, 2017.

First opening band was Colouring, and I have to give them kudos for a job well done! I might be searching for their tunes. Second opening band instrumentals and music were good, but I was not a fan of the vocals.

On to The 1975: THANK YOU for an INCREDIBLE SHOW! The light show was AMAZING! STILL the best I have EVER seen! Matty kept all his attire on, lit up, and I swear there was a bottle of beer and a couple of wine glasses on stage. He danced on the piano and beckoned the sexy sax player. Mesmerizing. Merch was stocked! Unfortunately they did not carry the rose gold necklace I wanted. Set list was a mix of both albums and Medicine. He played 'Me' after kindly asking to put our phones away. Live in the moment for a memory no one else needs to know. Also played 'Robbers' after mentioning he'd never play it again, but they'll play it anyway. I was surprised how ok the acoustics were in the cement building of the PNE Forum. My friend and I had a tonne of fun! If you want a band that can give hot, steamy, sultry sex to your eyes and ears, see this band. MUSIC FOR CARS 2018!!!!

The 1975 Announce 2024 U.K., European Tour Dates

The 1975 have announced dates for their 2024 U.K. and European “Still At Their Very Best” tour.

The schedule for the band’s biggest shows to date in Europe includes two nights at London’s O2.

The group will commence the U.K. leg with a show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on February 9 and then move on to perform at London’s O2 on February 12 and 13, followed by dates in Manchester (Feb. 18) and Birmingham (Feb. 21).

The 1975 have announced their upcoming 2024 European tour dates.

The 1975 announced the details for their upcoming European tour on Thursday. The trek will begin in February and will consist of 22 dates across the continent.

The pop-rock band are set to play their biggest shows in Europe to date. The tour, titled Still... At Their Very Best, will include two back-to-back dates in London at The O2.

The trek will kick off on 9 February at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The British band will then hit cities including Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Milan and more. They will then wrap up at the Palladium in Cologne, Germany on 22 March.

The new dates will follow the band's 32-date U.S. tour which will begin on 26 September in Sacramento, California and includes two sold-out shows at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden.

During an interview with NME in 2022, frontman Matty Healy revealed that he and his bandmates chose the tour name Still... At Their Very Best to signify the growth of the band.

The band teased the tour announcement at Reading Festival last weekend when posters were spotted around the venue.

The band headlined the Reading and Leeds festivals last week, stepping in for Lewis Capaldi who announced that he would be taking a break from performing to focus on his health.

the 1975 notes on a conditional form

Following two postponements, The 1975’s long-awaited European tour has officially been rescheduled for 2021. The 17-date run, in support of their chart-topping new album,  Notes on a Conditional Form , kicks off February 12 at Copenhagen’s Tap 1 and concludes at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz.

Additionally, the band released their newest video alongside Ben Ditto, who has curated an online exhibition of 15 artists responding to tracks from the album. View “Roadkill,” from New York filmmaker Mia Kerin, below.

The 1975 - Roadkill (Visualiser)

Kerin’s visual response to “Roadkill” tells the story of a lonely cowgirl (played by the filmmaker) who dreams about a fantasy princess and then embarks on a real-life journey to find her. Thanks to the magic of a green-screen, Kerin sets out across America on a trip of desire and self-discovery.

Dweezil Zappa Announces Nationwide Tour

Weezer announces ‘voyage to the blue planet’ tour to celebrate ‘the blue album’, eric carmen, raspberries frontman and solo artist, dies at 74.

Kerin first heard “Roadkill” after 20 days of being quarantined alone in her apartment. Her first reaction, upon hearing the lyrics “You, I’ve been waiting for you/My whole life, waiting for you/I’ve been waiting for you,” was a message of longing.

But then she added a twist. As the YouTube description reads, “What if the one you’ve been pining for isn’t who you thought they were? At the end of her trip, cowgirl Kerin lassos her object of desire, but things don’t play out quite how she’d hoped. Sometimes you find that person you’ve been looking for and they smash eggs in your hair, they humiliate you. The world has a dark sense of humor like that.”

“It’s humiliating to expect a lot out of anyone and not get it,” explained Kerin in a statement. “But it’s also relaxing to have absolutely no control over others and take the backseat. I can’t tell you what’s happening in my life but having a bunch of eggs smashed on my head helped me understand a recent experience all for the better.”

While the short film’s heroine is left to fantasize forever, the video ultimately leaves viewers with an important lesson: “If you go on a long journey, you never know what you’ll find along the way; and the greatest parts of a journey are often when you’re alone with your fantasies, with time to explore them in-depth.”

The visual for “Roadkill” follows an endearing, 3D animated short for “Don’t Worry” and a live-action video for “Yeah I Know,” both released last week, in support of The 1975’s widely-acclaimed, fourth studio album.

Still… At Their Very Best Tour hits the region in February and March 2024.

The 1975 has announced details of the UK and Europe leg of their Still… At Their Very Best Tour. The trek is set to hit the region in February and March 2024, featuring two nights at London’s The O2. The tour represent the band’s biggest ever shows in Europe and will be the final shows of the Being Funny In A Foreign Language campaign.

Tickets for the UK and Europe tour will be available via exclusive fan presale on Wednesday, September 6th at 10 am BST, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Friday, September 8th at 10 am BST.

The 1975’s new tour will see the band play arenas across North America and Canada throughout the Autumn, including sold out shows at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and, for the first time ever, two back-back sold out nights at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, before arriving in the UK and Europe for these newly announced shows in 2024.

The band’s previous At Their Very Best Tour took in arenas across USA, Canada, UK & Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia across the last nine months with more than 500 thousand tickets sold. Between the impressive staging, high-concept performance art and surprise appearances from friends, the tour has been lauded as a band truly in their prime.

The 1975 also recently announced a number of new limited edition formats of their self-titled debut album to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the record. This includes a 4 LP deluxe vinyl release which also includes Facedown EP , Sex EP, Music For Cars EP & IV EP , plus a solid white vinyl release in gatefold sleeve, a limited edition white cassette, and 2 CD set containing the album plus live recording of The 1975 played in full live at Gorilla, Manchester earlier this year. New and classic era merchandise will also be available from the band’s webstore, starting September 1st, the original release date for the album back in 2013.

Over the last decade, The 1975 has firmly established themselves as the defining band of their generation with their distinctive aesthetic, passionate fanbase, and unique sonic approach.

Released last October, the band’s fifth studio album Being Funny In A Foreign Language was met with lavish praise. It outsold the rest of the top five combined to land the band their fifth Official UK No. 1 album in a row. The band was also crowned Best Rock/Alternative Act at the 2023 BRIT Awards.

The 1975 have rescheduled their upcoming European tour for June.

Matt Healy and the band were due to begin a run of 16 gigs in continental Europe later this month. However, their label Dirty Hit Records announced on Monday that these shows were being postponed .

Now the new dates have been announced, revealing that the band will begin their European tour in Aarhus, Denmark on June 11 and conclude in Milan, Italy on June 29. The new tour features fewer shows than originally scheduled, but Dirty Hit said “original tickets will be honoured wherever possible”.

The band’s European tour includes shows in Germany’s Munich and Offenbach on June 24 and 25 – the Saturday and Sunday of Glastonbury 2017. Check out the full list of dates below.

Meanwhile, The 1975 are due to perform at the Brit Awards at London’s The O2 on February 22. They have also picked up two nominations for the annual awards bash .

Healy had made a similar speech at Glastonbury when the result of the EU Referendum was announced . He also admitted  that he cried when he found out Donald Trump had been elected President of the United States .

Rehearsals were done around November 5-15, 1974 in Rudbecksskolan, Stockholm-Sollentuna. Prior to the second part of the tour another week of rehearsals was spent at the Jarla theatre in Stockholm.

The tour was an average success only and not sold out everywhere outside Scandinavia. Some concerts even were cancelled because of low interest. Several press reviews were rather negative or written in a mocking way.

Gerold Büchelmaier, BRAVO 51/1974, p. 15

For the concerts in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, a four page folder was printed “including discography, three pages including what was said about the group in the press, a black and white photograph taken during the pre-selection with Waterloo in Sweden and a folded poster naming all venues and dates in those three countries” ( ABBA Intermezzo #86 p. 11). A press conference for the tour start was held at the Copenhagen Plaza hotel on November 16 in the afternoon.

Before ABBA began their show the Beat Makers played alone.

Songs performed by ABBA probably included (listed alphabetically):

  • Gonna Sing You My Lovesong
  • Hasta Manana
  • He Is Your Brother
  • Hey, Hey Helen
  • Honey, Honey
  • Intermezzo No. 1 (‘Mama’)
  • I've Been Waiting For You
  • King Kong Song
  • Rock’n Roll Band
  • Sitting In The Palmtree
  • Waterloo (according to a press review performed as encore)
  • Ring, Ring is mentioned in a review of the Vejle Amts Folkeblad
  • While the set list may be very similiar to the Eskilstuna concert 1975 it seems that this list isn’t complete. ABBA The Book (p. 105) says ‘about 20 songs’ were played. The tour poster also mentions Ring, Ring , so it could be assumed that it actually is one of the missing songs.
  • Additional elements of the shows were fireworks (?) and soap bubbles.

Maurice Bembridge (1945-2024)

Maurice Bembridge, who played in four Ryder Cups and won six times on the European Tour, has passed away at the age of 79.

GettyImages-179417870

The Englishman turned professional at the age of 15 when he began working as an Assistant at Worksop Golf Club in Nottinghamshire.

He made his Ryder Cup debut in 1969 in the famous tied contest at Royal Birkdale, winning two and halving one of his five matches, and went on to play in the next three Ryder Cups, in 1971, 73, and 75.

Following the formation of the European Tour in 1972, Bembridge won six times in total, with his first victory at the 1973 Martini International. His best season was in 1974 when he won claimed three titles – the Piccadilly Medal, the Double Diamond Strokeplay, and the Viyella PGA Championship.

The following year he won the 1975 German Open and his final Tour victory came in the 1979 Benson & Hedges International Open.

One of his greatest claims to fame, however, stemmed from his performance in a tournament he did not win – the 1974 Masters Tournament.

Bembridge began the final round three-over Par at Augusta National and ended it on five-under after posting an eight-under par round of 64 to finish tied-ninth. In doing so, he equalled the course record then shared by Jack Nicklaus and Lloyd Mangrum and subsequently eclipsed by Nick Price and Greg Norman.

He took just 30 strokes on the back nine in a round that his 1969 Ryder Cup team-mate Peter Alliss rated as one of the finest in the game’s history.

Nicklaus, who finished tied-fourth, three shots adrift of Gary Player, the champion, had been served notice of Maurice’s capabilities a handful of months earlier in the 1974 Ryder Cup at Muirfield.

The afternoon fourballs on day one saw Maurice and Brian Huggett defeat Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer 3&1. Then in the singles Nicklaus needed 36 holes to overcome Bembridge after the pair had halved the morning session, the 18-times major champion winning the afternoon encounter two-up.

Bembridge, whose best finish in a Major was fifth in the 1968 Open Championship, continued to play on the European Tour – now the DP World Tour – until 1987. He became a PGA Honorary Member in 1994 and, on turning 50 the following year, joined the European Senior Tour.

He went on to win two tournaments on the Senior Tour, the Hippo Jersey Seniors in 1996 and Swedish Seniors two years later, and was a member of the European Senior Tour committee for nine years, serving as chairman from 2007 – 2011.

In total, he won 20 professional titles, including the Kenya Open three times (in 1968, 1969 and 1979), the 1969 News of the World Match Play, the Caltex Open in New Zealand in 1970, the 1971 Dunlop Masters and 1972 Lusaka Open in Zambia.

The thoughts of everyone at the European Tour Group are with Maurice’s family and friends.
