Tip #1: Wear Comfortable Shoes

Tip #2: Bring a Jacket, and Maybe Gloves Too

It is usually very damp inside the catacomb tunnels. On top of that, the temperature is 15 degrees Celsius year-round. This equates to less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. For most, this is a bit chilly at the very least. Most visitors are comfortable with a light jacket. However, having a thin pair of gloves won’t hurt either.

Tip #3: Invest in a Guided Tour

Because the number of guests in the tunnels at any one time is just 200, the lines to obtain a general admission ticket are usually very long. By purchasing a priority ticket through a guided tour, you can skip the lines at the entrance and go right in.

Another added bonus is that you will have a tour guide that can tell you much more about the Paris catacombs. Some tours even allow you to see areas of the tunnels that most don’t.

Tip #4: If Not, Arrive Early

If you haven’t planned ahead and purchased a tour with priority access to the catacombs, you will have to wait in line. This line can get quite long so be prepared for it. However, if you arrive 30 to 60 minutes before they open, you most likely won’t have to wait quite as long. Sometimes the wait can be hours, so be sure to get there early.

Tip #5: Are you claustrophobic?

There aren’t many restrictions when it comes to visiting the catacombs, except for a few banned items. Even kids can go inside for a look at the more sinister side of Paris. However, if you are claustrophobic and already know this, the catacombs may not be the ideal attraction for you. The good part is that there are always the famous cabarets of Paris, the Seine River cruises, or even guided tours of Versailles.

Tip #6: Stay in a Central Location

Everywhere you’re going to want to go as a tourist in Paris will be centrally located or have provided travel that leaves this area. Most of the hotels, many museums, and a lot of restaurants are all centrally located.

Tip #7: Always Have Euros on Hand

There are many stores and even restaurants that don’t accept debit or credit cards. Some taxis won’t accept plastic either. If an establishment does accept a card, they often won’t allow you to leave a tip on your receipt.

This means it’s important to always have a few euros on hand. Many ATMs in the city will allow you to use a foreign card to withdrawal euros.

It dates back to 1895 and the interior decor hasn’t changed much since. This is one of those restaurants that only take cash, so have a few euros on you.

In Paris, it’s hard to find a truly casual restaurant. Because of this, you’ll want to make sure that you’re dressed for the occasion. If you’re not sure what you could or should wear to a particular establishment, some will list their dress code online or you can always give them a call.

Getting Around

There’s no shortage of ways to get around in Paris. The most popular, effective, and affordable way is the Metro. You may find it a bit intimidating at first due to the sheer number of lines and routes, but after a few trips to an attraction or restaurant, you’ll be riding the Metro like a pro.

You can purchase single ride tickets or a batch of 10. If you’re going to be in Paris longer there are also ride passes.

While traditional taxis can be quite expensive in the city, Uber offers some fairly inexpensive ways to get around town if traveling by car is best.

Walking between destinations is very doable in Paris but if you’d like to ride a bike instead, there’s plenty of kiosks that rent them. In fact, this can be a great way to tour the city and do some sightseeing on your own.

Attractions

Not every inch of Paris is as romantic as you think – in fact, the Catacombs are downright chilling. Prior to the creation of the Catacombs in the late 18th century, Parisians buried their dead in cemeteries. But as the city continued to grow, burial grounds ran out of space, graves started to become exposed and stunk up surrounding neighborhoods. The limestone quarries located 65 feet beneath Paris eventually became the solution, providing ample and safe space for the city's deceased loved ones. It took years to move millions of bodies from all the Parisian graves.

Today, the solemn, skull-and-boned lined tunnels weave beneath the heart of the City of Love, beckoning to visitors with an interest in the departed. The catacombs stretch for miles all over the city, but visitors are only allowed to access about a mile's worth for 45 minutes at the Denfert-Rochereau (lines 4,6 and RER B) metro station. Trying to access the catacombs at any other entrance throughout the city is illegal. You'll want to wear sturdy footwear as the paths inside are full of gravel, uneven and even slippery in some sections. What's more, you'll have to descend 131 steps and climb 112 steps back up. As such, the catacombs are not wheelchair-accessible. And because of the attraction's unique nature and popularity, expect a queue.

Tips for Visiting

Recent travelers advised arriving as close to opening time as possible (or even before) to aim for the shortest wait time. But even then, travelers encountered long lines. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time on the attraction's website. Those with even the slightest claustrophobia might want to sit this one out, as the tunnels are narrow and cramped.

Visitors are welcome to tour the catacombs Tuesday through Sunday from 9:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (last admission is at 7:30 p.m.). Adult admission costs 29 euros (around $29) and includes an audio guide. Tickets for children between the ages of 5 and 17 cost 10 euros (around $11). Many attractions can be visited on your own, including the Paris Catacombs, but because only 200 people are allowed in at a time, the lines can be long.

To get the most out of your visit, here are the 5 top-rated Catacombs tours in Paris, packed with history and excitement.

2. VIP Skip-the-Line Restricted Access Tour

This VIP tour is sold by a different operator but is basically the same as #1. Choose either one and you can't go wrong.

Here, too, you'll be in a small group with an expert guide, and you'll have access to secret corners of the Catacombs not available to normal ticket-holders.

On both tours, you'll learn plenty of history, especially dating back to the French Revolution (victims of the guillotine are buried here) and World War II, when the tunnels were used both by the Resistance and the Nazis.

3. Skip-the-Line Special Access Tour

While the two above tours are small (6 people or less), this is a medium-sized tour that can reach 19 up to 19 people. If you don't mind a larger group and would like to pay less than you would on a smaller tour, this one is for you.

It has many of  the same benefits. You get an English-speaking guide who knows the Catacombs intimately, and you'll have a skip-the-line ticket and avoid the long waits at the entrance.

You'll hear all about the stories and legends of the Catacombs, and about what it took to engineer their move from city cemeteries to these underground tunnels, a move that took 12 years to complete.

As you enter areas that aren't normally accessible, you'll visit secret sculptures and even a hidden chapel, and receive personal explanations of how they came to be. Some of these are almost too incredible to be real!

The only significant difference between this tour and #1 and #2 is the size of the tour (this one is a bit more crowded) and the price (this one is cheaper).

4. The Paris Underbelly Walking Tour

NOTE: THIS TOUR IS NOT AVAILABLE IN 2024.

This tour, on the other hand, is quite different because it is private.

You get your own guide, and no one else tags along, only your group of up to 10 people. It's up to you: do it alone, or with your family or friends.

The advantage of this more "personal" approach is that you don't feel constrained by asking too many questions, as you might in a group full of strangers. You can ask away, and no question is too silly or repetitive.

Of course this tour includes everything the others do, from a skip-the-line ticket to access to "behind the scenes" portions of the Catacombs, and if you'd like it as an add-on, Addie (the guide) is happy to take you to some delectable pastry shops afterwards!

This is the simplest of my five recommendations: a skip-the-line ticket and an audioguide.

The Catacombs are incredibly popular and during the high season, it could take several hours to reach the ticket counter. Unless you want to spend your holiday standing in line, a skip-the-line ticket is the sensible way to go.

Having an audioguide (available in English) allows you stop where you want to and repeat the commentary if you feel you've missed something – perfect if you're an independent-minded traveler who prefers to do things on their own terms.

As you walk along, the recording will point out such landmarks as the "Barrel" and signs related to streets above where significant events took place.

Whenever you feel like silence, you'll be able to switch off the audioguide and get a sense of the eternal stillness of the six million souls that have been buried here for centuries.

Here are a few practical considerations you should consider when visiting the Catacombs.

• Only 200 people are allowed in at a time, but it can still get a bit crowded if everyone is interested in the same "room".
• The tunnels are quite cool and humid all year, around 14°C/57°F, so please dress accordingly. Bring a sweater, and wear good shoes with a bit of tread, because it can get a bit slippery.
• The toilets are only accessible on your way out so make sure you don't need them on your way in.
• No large bags are allowed, only small purses.
• The Catacombs are not recommended for anyone who suffers from claustrophobia. The tunnels aren't particularly narrow but they are tunnels nonetheless, with no daylight.
• Nor are they suitable for people with mobility issues. The Catacombs have 130 steps, which you have to descend on arrival and go up on the way back. There is no elevator access.
• This is one of the most popular attractions in Paris and tickets will sell out quickly, especially at the height of the spring and summer seasons, so make these a priority for advance purchase when you're doing your planning.

How long is the wait for Paris Catacombs?

It depends on the season, the time of day, and pure luck. It can be as quick as five minutes but can also last several hours.

Can you tour the Catacombs on your own?

Yes, you can. You can buy a ticket, enter and wander around, or get an audioguide for a bit more structure.

How much of the Paris Catacombs are open to the public?

Only a tiny portion is open to the public, about 0.5% of the total.

What are the visiting rules of Catacombs tours Paris?

🆘 Quite safe. But if you need it, the emergency number in France is 112.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK FOR FRANCE?

Here are a few essentials: 👟 Comfortable walking shoes . You'll be on your feet a lot, and... cobblestones. 🔌 An adapter for your charger. Plugs are different in France . 👜 An anti-theft purse ( this is the bag I use ). 🧣 An infinity scarf , for evenings when you don't want to carry a purse.

The Paris Catacombs Tour is a 2-hour excursion down into this dark labyrinth. If you’ve been to Paris before, you’ll know that there’s oftentimes a pretty lengthy line to get in on the regular tours. One of the biggest upsides to this tour, is that you get to skip that line and head straight into the mazes of tunnels which lie beneath the city streets.

Beforehand, make sure that you’re wearing the appropriate clothing.

Even in the summertime, it still doesn’t get above 57 or so degrees Fahrenheit down there. Also, the tunnels can get slippery so boots are definitely your friend, or other shoes with a nice grip to them.

The tour starts out at the entrance of the catacombs, where you’ll meet your guide. They have extensive experience in touring the catacombs and know exactly where to go and the history behind it. The tunnels already existed as they were there from miners looking for limestone. You’ll follow the guide throughout different passageways and little rooms.

• We particularly enjoyed their anecdotes, along with the stories from many others who’d worked or visited there.

Of course, there are over 6 million bodies laid to rest here, so we appreciated the stories that were told about some of them as well.

Getting There –

Paris is luckily a pretty easy city to get to from the United States, as it’s the second most-visited European capital. It has three airports: Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Orly, and Beauvais. However, the two that you really have to deal with are either CDG and Orly. Beauvais typically is only used by budget airlines, and is much further from the city center than the other two.

Not only that, CDG and Orly are very easy to get to Paris to by the RER trains. Some of the most popular airlines to take to Paris from the US are: Norwegian, American, United, and Air France. However, most major airlines offer flights directly from the US to France. If you don’t feel like taking the train/metro into the city from the airports, a taxi or Uber into the city will take around half an hour (depending on traffic).

Getting Around –

Getting around Paris is luckily incredibly easy to do, even if you’ve never been there before or don’t speak a word of French. However, we recommend going on foot and by metro. These are the cheapest, most efficient ways (and oftentimes the fastest ways to get from point A to point B!).

Walking – It’s no secret that Paris is an absolutely breathtaking city, from its architecture, meticulously-maintained trees, and even the streets. While every massive city has areas you probably don’t want to be walking around late at night in, the touristy areas are generally quite safe at any hour. Not to mention, the main sidewalks and streets are wide and clearly designed for pedestrians. If you’re staying around most tourist hotspots, you could realistically rely just on walking.

Metro – Realistically, though, you’re going to want to mix in walking and taking the metro. There are metro stations everywhere around the city. It’s affordable, easy to see the stations with their large signs and entrances, and operate a whopping 16 routes. Each route is pretty lengthy, too, and you can get from one far end of the city to the other in less than an hour, realistically.

You can purchase a single ticket for about 2 bucks, but it’s probably a better idea to get a book of 10 tickets or a Mobilis day pass. If you get the book of tickets, you do get a discount, and once you ride the metro once you’re going to realize what a cool experience it is and want to do it again. The windows are large, and oftentimes offer some of the best views of Paris! Not to mention, they’re overall very clean, and people tend to read or keep to themselves on the metro. Running from about 6 am to 12:30 am every day, this is a great way to get around.

Train – The Reseau Express Regional (RER) trains have 5 routes (letters A through E) from the city center to the suburbs surrounding it. These are what you’ll take to and from the airports if you don’t want to take a taxi or Uber (or drive). They’re also a great way to see some of the towns outside of the city, and tickets can be purchased at any RER or metro station. Keep in mind that ticket prices won’t always be the same, as they’re based off of which stations you’re traveling to.

Bus – RATP has an impressive 59 bus lines which go through Paris’ city center and suburbs. The T+ tickets and metro passes can also be used for bus trips as they do cost the same as a metro ride. Running from 7am to 8:30pm Monday to Saturday (some like the Noctilien bus operate at night to cover the gap until 4 am) they can be scenic. However, if you do take the bus late at night, we noticed it’s not quite as clean or calm as the metro sometimes.

Taxi or Rideshare – Paris has taxis just about everywhere, especially near tourist attractions and the city center. You’ll see the taxis designated with a “Taxi Parisien” sign on the roof. When it’s available, the sign is green, and when it’s red it’s occupied. You can hail one from the street, but it’s more convenient to wait in line at a taxi rank. Uber does operate here as well. Just keep in mind that traffic can get very heavy at times in Paris.

Where to Stay –

n Paris, the easiest way to refer to the different areas are by “arrondissements”. An arrondissement is an administrative area within Paris, which include various neighborhoods or certain historical places. In Paris, there are 20, and each have their own mayor! The 1 st arrondissement is in the very city center. They go all the way to the 20 th , in a spiral clockwise motion, going outward from the center. Let’s talk about the best to stay in.

Paris 3 and 4/Le Marais – Located right next to the city center, half of Le Marais is in the 3 rd and half is in the 4 th . If it’s your first time in Paris, it’s perfect due to how close it is to massive attractions and being central. Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Place des Vosges, Centre George Pompidou, and more are all here. It’s definitely a fun-loving, free-spirited area full of beautiful gardens, bistros, cafes, and bars.

Paris 5/Latin Quarter – This area is also close to Notre Dame, breathtaking medieval churches, plazas, the Pantheon, Roman Arena, and Jardin des Plantes. The Luxembourg Gardens are nearby, and are perfect for taking a coffee and going for a morning stroll. Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg and Hotel des Grandes Ecoles are both located here, and are some of our favorites.

Paris 1 – Of course if you’re looking to sightsee, really nothing compares to the 1 st arrondissement. You’ll find the Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre, the Royal Palace, and much more here. You can walk around easily, due to the large streets and walkways, however there are going to be quite a few tourists after 9am. Lots of tour companies operate out of this arrondissement so you will oftentimes see large groups of people walking through. However, you have tons of food, markets, and shopping to choose from. The Champs Elysees is right there!

Restaurants and Eating Out –

As you probably already know, Paris is a city very much renowned for its cuisine. There are plenty of local markets with fresh produce where you can grab something quick to eat or some ingredients to cook back at your apartment or hotel (if a kitchen is included). There are also plenty of food tours that perfectly combine sightseeing and eating! If you’re a chocolate fan, we highly recommend one of these!

Breakfast – For breakfast, we opt for the classic pastry and coffee (or tartine). These are just about at any Parisian café. They are fresh, flavorful, and usually easy on the wallet. Bistro Vivienne, Café St Regis, and Le Pain Retrove are all great spots.

Brunch – Brunch always seems to be delicious in Paris. However, it can get pretty busy, so be prepared for a wait if reservations aren’t available. Echo is often considered to be the best brunch in the city, but for Americans it may seem a bit too familiar. Les Marronniers in Le Marais has a legendary hot chocolate, fresh juices, delicious mini-pastries and a fantastic Eggs Benedict. Café Mirabelle is a charming little spot with Alsatian cuisine you’re sure to fall in love with.

Lunch – L’Ami Jean is a bustling bistro with fantastic desserts. Girafe has some of the best Eiffel Tower views with fresh, Mediterranean eats that are great if you’re trying to keep things light. If you’re going to be near (or in) the Musee d’Art Moderne, check out “Forest” on the roof! Behind the Louvre, you’ll find Le Luli, which has a great prix fixe meal.

Dinner – If you’re looking for one of the hottest restaurants to dine at, check out La Poule Au Pot. The dollhouse-like building is certainly eye-catching, and has an excellent wine list and rich mains. Bistro Paul Bert is a very classically French dinner spot, with an incredible cheese plate! If you’re going to be near the Champs-Elysee, check out Chez Andre, which has a very romantic, “old-school” Paris. If you are looking for something a little different, try a Siene River Dinner cruise .

Nightlife and Entertainment –

If you’re looking to go out to some clubs or in an area that has a rich nightlife, check out Le Marais. It’s more of a high-energy neighborhood with all kinds of music, from electronic to rock. If you want a more relaxed evening with a glass of wine or a nice beer, try the Latin Quarter. Saint Germain is another nice option, but it does have higher prices.

Another excellent, high-energy nightclub spot is on Champs Elysees. This massive avenue is going to be where you want to be if you want to dance all night long. Bastille is a popular tourist spot for going out at night, too. Of course, if you want to go full Paris, you have to check out a cabaret! The Moulin Rouge is the most iconic, but Le Lido and Paradis Latin are other prime selections.

Cruise – If you are on the hunt for nighttime adventures other than bars or clubs, why not try a Seine River night cruise? These are lovely on summer nights, and you’re sure to love the way the water lights up with the lights on the avenues.

Take a Walk – Walking around Paris at night is almost more delightful than in the daytime – particularly around the Eiffel Tower. The massive structure lights up at night, to where you can see it almost anywhere in the city. At every hour until 1 or 2 am it also glitters for 5 minutes, which adds a whole other level of charm. At this time, there will be street vendors out selling things like pastries and drinks, too.

Opera – If you’re into opera or have ever expressed the tiniest interest in it, take an evening and head over to Opera Garnier. The architecture and decoration alone is impressive, and at the interlude you can grab a glass of champagne and admire the gallery. The Mysteries of The Opera Night Tour is also fascinating and covers The Phantom of The Opera, where you can actually visit his reserved balcony #5, which is only possible during the night tours!

Night Tour – Night sightseeing tours are fun! You can cruise through the lit streets in a classic Citroen 2CV, sip on a glass of champagne, and admire the illuminated attractions such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and more.

Weather –

At the same altitude as London, Paris does tend to be pretty grey and rainy a good portion of the year. We highly recommend going between June and August or September to October for the best weather. During summer, you can expect it to be around 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, though there are going to be much larger crowds! The wintertime is always charming and beautiful with a layer of snow on the ground, but it’s definitely cold and not exactly ideal for sightseeing!

Attractions –

Well, you probably already know the must-sees: the Eiffel Tower, Arc du Triomphe, the Louvre, and the Catacombs. However, there are many others that we highly recommend.

Museums – The Louvre is by far the largest and has iconic pieces of art, including the Mona Lisa. It definitely will take more than a day to adequately see everything but even going for a couple of hours is worth it. Musee d’Orsay is a must if you like Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, van Gogh, and/or Toulouse-Lautrec. Musee de l’Orangerie is another incredible museum if you’re into Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, and Picasso.

Chateau de Versailles – Versailles lies about 30 minutes from the Paris city center, but is also worth seeing. The definition of opulence lies here, though it was once just a modest hunting lodge! Louix XIV changed things, commissioning most of the lavish refurbishments like the famous Hall of Mirrors. The gardens are absolutely incredible as well, with sculptures and fountains that “sing”.

Galeries Lafayette – If you’re into shopping, you can’t pass Galeries Lafayette up! This is most likely the most majestic department store in the world, with wrought iron ceiling domes and latticed glasswork, along with the top brands and delicious food sold here.

Jardin des Tuileries – We recommend visiting this park, as you’re likely going to be in the area anyway, but also because it’s beautiful and so calming to take a stroll in. Perfectly manicured trees, beautiful flowers, and the fact that it’s always quiet makes it easy to clear the mind here.

Sacre-Coeur – With a Romano-Byzantine edifice, it looks quite a bit different from many other pieces of Parisian architecture. While it’s great to check out, there are quite a bit of people trying to sell things and they can get a bit pushy so be prepared.

Notre-Dame Cathedral – Unfortunately, Notre-Dame is currently closed due to the fire that occurred in 2019. It isn’t supposed to reopen until April of 2024, but it’s still worth going to see the exterior.

Tips –

• Try to visit in the summer or early fall. Even though the crowds will be bigger due to the fact that most Europeans vacation around July, it’s worth it. It’s just not as fun walking around or hopping on and off metros in the slippery snow.
• Beware of pickpockets here. As Paris is such a tourist-heavy city, there are also plenty of people looking to scam you. Always keep your belongings close to you and keep eyes on them at all times – especially if you’re in the middle of a crowd or on the metro.
• Use public transportation. The metro is so incredibly affordable and convenient, there’s just no excuse not to unless you really want to take a taxi or Uber. Even then, a lot of the time there’s going to be heavy traffic unless it’s late at night or early in the morning.
• Try to learn at least a few basic words of French. To be completely honest, the French will respect you a lot more and tend to be much friendlier if you at least make an attempt to communicate with them first in French.

Paris Big Bus Tour Review

T he Paris Big Bus Tour is the gift that keeps on giving. Truth be told I love to walk and see cities on foot, but Paris is a must by bus because it makes financial sense, and it will save you a lot of time.

Is it worth it.

When traveling, I am a fan of taking public transportation and traveling like a local. It’s environmentally friendly and you can save money on car rental expenses.

Taking the Big Bus Tour was one of the best decisions that we made because the tourist attractions are spread apart, and you can see many more points of interest while saving time and money.  

Paris is made up of 20 neighborhoods (or arrondissements) and the Big Bus Tour will travel through 7 of them.  

We spent a total of 9 days and Paris and had a pretty full agenda which included lunch at the Eiffel Tower , a river cruise on the Seine, a day trip to Versailles, a classical concert at La Sainte Chapelle, trips to outdoor markets like Marche des Enfants Rouges, visiting the rooftop of the Arc de Triumph, souvenir shopping, Sacre Coeur, the Louvre Museum, the Champs Elysees, the Catacombs, Rue de Cler, Pont Alexandre , a croissant making class with a Parisien chef, Ile de la Cite, Berthillon, and more. We also ventured out to see Paris at night and the views were stunning!

How Long is the Big Bus Tour in Paris

The Red Route is the main tour, and it takes about two hours to see everything if you don’t exit the bus. We stayed on the bus from start to finish to get a idea of places that we wanted to visit on foot.

How Much is the Big Bus Tour in Paris

The ticket fee will vary based on the number of days that you want to join the tour bus. I recommend the combination ticket where you can see the points of interest for the Big Bus, and take a cruise on the river Seine.  

It is possible to do both the tour and the cruise in one day. If you join the tour and finish by 5 PM, you can then join the cruise on the river and catch the sunset depending on the time of year that you go.

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

Sorry, but no matter what the city it is very likely that you won’t find any restrooms. However, you can ask the driver or attendants on the bus to guide you. The wonderful thing about Paris is there are public restrooms available for just a euro.

When is the Best Time to Visit Paris

We went on the bus tour at the end of March for Spring break. The weather was a bit chilly and in the high 50s to low 60s. It was sunny, but not incredibly warm.  

The prime months are April, May, September, and October when highs reach a comfortable 60-70°F (15-21°C).

Big Bus Tour Review

We purchased our tickets online using a smartphone after touring Notre Dame. Because the cathedral was one of the tour stops, we thought we were close, but the stop was a 7-minute walk away.  

To add, the area was congested, and the instructions were confusing. After calling the tour company, we found the stop heading west but then learned that the bus stop was across the street and coming from the south direction.  

Fortunately, we caught it in time and were able to get nice seats on the upper deck. 

It was a sunny, cool day and one would think would be an excellent opportunity for photos. The problem for me is that I don’t have great photography skills and I was using my smartphone.  

When we got to a landmark or icon, it was difficult to take a good shot due to the speed at which the bus traveled, bumps in the road, construction equipment, or overgrown trees, not to mention the hands, heads, and cameras of other passengers.

On our tour there were two routes in operation, the red route, and another color (which may no longer be available). The red route took about two hours to see everything. Then we had to exit the bus at the last stop to catch another bus that went into other neighborhoods.

The most interesting point on the second route was The Moulin Rouge. Otherwise, the sights were non-eventful, so we caught up on rest and napped on the lower level during the ride.

Overall, it was time well spent. And since we planned activities at a few of the attractions we had the chance to make up for bad photos taken on the bus. 

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in Paris

There are 10 stops on the red route and the buses will arrive in frequent intervals. During peak visiting months, like spring to summer, you can expect longer waits and slim pickings for a good seat.

8- Tour Eiffel (Quai Branly, Entrée 2 Tour Eiffel, at the north pillar of the Eiffel Tower)

9 – Champ de Mars (Avenue Joseph Bouvard)

10 – Opéra Garnier (Facing 15 rue Scribe, next to the Roissy airport shuttle bus stop)

Things to Know Before You Go

• The tour is pre-recorded and the audio narratives can be heard in English, French, Italian , Spanish, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin, and Korean.
• Be mindful of potential traffic delays, especially during peak hours so that you can plan your tour for off-peak times to avoid congestion.
• Be aware of any events that may alter the experience (rallies, protests, huge sports competitions).

I can’t emphasize the awareness of events enough. There was an enormous parade outside our hotel on one trip, and protests that caused the Champs Elysee to be boarded up during another trip.

Final Thoughts on the Paris Big Bus Tour

Overall, it was a pretty fun girls’ trip but the last thing I wated to do was spend most of our time and money riding the subway all over Paris.

The Big Bus is a no brainer if you want to see the best of Paris without wearing yourself out.

As a US citizen, I try to make the most of my visits to Europe.

The more countries I visit, the more I am convinced that I’ve made the best use of a 10-hour flight.

A quick trip to the Covent Garden in London, Venice , Italy, or any another country is always must for me.
