Princess Cruises immerses you in memorable landscapes, history and culture with a cruise to both green and icy hotspots. Discover why these destinations are bucket-list-worthy and where to visit…

If cruising had a beauty pageant, then Iceland & Greenland would win the top prize for natural beauty.

The Land of Fire and Ice showcases unrivalled sights and gives you a cruising experience completely unlike any other – with Princess Cruises leading the way in in-depth cruises to both countries.

Princess Cruises not only takes you to the must-see and off-the-beaten-track locations but also keeps you informed of all the weird and wonderful facts about each destination along the way through tailored excursions – did you know that beer was illegal in Iceland until 1989? Or that 80% of Greenland is covered in ice?

With so many fascinating destinations to cruise to, we break it down to the top five places in Iceland and Greenland – and luckily for you, Princess Cruises visits all five.

As the capital city of Iceland, it may come as no surprise that Reykjavík nabs the top spot.

Reykjavík is the perfect fusion of a picturesque, historic town full of impressive scenery and a young, cosmopolitan city – and Princess Cruises brings you to Reykjavík for exactly this reason, heightened by the handy More Ashore late-night departures , so you can enjoy the city for longer.

Art and culture lovers can step off Princess’ plush base and admire some classic and modern Icelandic art in the Reykjavík Art Museum before heading straight into downtown Reykjavík for a coffee in one of the countless cafés – perfect for observing the locals go about their day-to-day life.

In the evening, this area comes to life with an abundance of local restaurants opening to showcase local ingredients. If you’re feeling brave you could indulge in the national dish of Iceland, Hákarl, which is made up of fermented shark.

It is almost a rite of passage for those visiting Reykjavík to take the plunge into the Blue Lagoon and experience the powers of this geothermal spa, ensuring you make the most of the free silica mud mask. To make it even easier, Princess Cruises can take you here on the ‘Bathing In The Blue Lagoon’ excursion .

2. Akureyri, Iceland

Akureyri is where the nickname ‘Land of Fire and Ice’ originates from with its dramatic and varied landscape made up of volcanic craters, waterfalls and extinct (phew) lava lakes – wow will be the first, and probably the only, word coming out of your mouth.

You might be thinking – hold on, this sounds great – but how do I pronounce Akureyri? Well, here is a handy tip for you, it rhymes with Tipperary.

Albeit known for skiing, it is easily forgotten that Akureyri is placed just below the Arctic circle due to the abundance of flowers and trees that line the streets and relatively warm summers.

See all the highlights in one handy excursion with Princess Cruises, the ‘Godafoss, Botanical Gardens & Laufas Folk Museum’, such as the stunning Godafoss Waterfall and Botanical Garden, which is home to a staggering 7,500 plants from around the world – you could wander around here for hours.

Alternatively, if you want to witness both fire and ice, opt for the ‘Godafoss Waterfall, Lava Labyrinth & Hot Springs’ excursion with Princess Cruises where you will watch the boiling mud pools at one of the most active volcanic areas in Iceland as well as the Godafoss Waterfall.

3. Qaqortoq, Greenland

Now, let’s not forget about Greenland – the largest island in the entire world that is not a continent at 836,330 square miles.

The first thing that stands out about Greenland is the complete juxtaposition of an island which is primarily made up of ice being called green! Greenland also possesses almost no trees and boasts some of the purest air and water in the world – a refreshing change from the air of London, that’s for sure

Qaqortoq epitomises Greenland’s unique qualities as an art-centric hub nestled in-between rolling hills featuring 30 different sculptures by local and Scandi artists and Greenland’s oldest fountain. Your typically early morning arrival with Princess Cruises means you have time to explore as deeply as you like.

This town is also the biggest in South Greenland and you will be amazed by the proximity of Viking ruins, glaciers and a hot spring. The town itself is a seasoned travellers paradise, with plenty of local practices to admire – such as Inuit hunting and fishing, which are both common practices in Qaqortoq.

If you want to experience a Greenlandic tradition, ensure you visit a local coffee shop to experience an, let’s say, interesting version of a coffee. Made of whiskey, Grand Marnier, Kahlua, coffee and whipped cream – we can’t decide whether this is genius or simply crazy.

A must-see is Hvalsey Church, which dates back to the Viking period. The farm estate nearby marks the last written record of Vikings in Greenland through a wedding in 1408. You can see this historic building with a guided Princess Cruises tour , where you can admire old farms passing by dotted along the shoreline on your way there.

4. Grundarfjordur, Iceland

One of the oldest settlements is up next, Grundarfjordur.

Dramatic would be an understatement to describe the landscape of Grundarfjordur, with a plethora of mountains, lava fields and even volcanoes dominating the landscape.

It was here that the Icelandic sagas were composed in the 10 th and 11 th centuries – one of the oldest literary traditions in Europe made up of tales of religion, war and migration.

If you simply must set foot on a beach every time you cruise, then your prayers have been answered with Djupalonssandur, a black pebbled beach.

Or perhaps you want to absorb some culture at Halgafell, an impressive temple which was built to honour the heroine of a love story from ancient Iceland, Laxdœla Saga.

Explore further outside of Grundarfjordur and head over to Breidafjordur Bay for the ultimate fjord views and wildlife sightings.

Luckily for you, Princess Cruises takes you there on the ‘Easy Breidafjordur Archipelago Cruise’. Princess Cruises has tailored this excursion to give you the absolute best views of the town of Strykkisholmur, a bustling town on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula as well as the towering cliffs and impressive seascapes of Breidafjordur Bay.

5. Nanortalik, Greenland

Nanortalik is the southernmost town in Greenland and actually translates to ‘place of bears’ in Greenlandic, so you won’t be surprised if you spot a wandering polar bear on the ice – how’s the for a wildlife spotting guarantee?

You shouldn’t only keep your eye out for polar bears, Nanortalik’s water is full of an abundance of humpback and fin whales as well as seals, after all, Nanortalik port was discovered as a Danish whaling station in 1797 and many of the residents remain traditional seal hunters – see if you can spot any from your Princess Cruises base.

Of course, the highlights of Nanortalik are not concentrated on the sea – on-land highlights include the Nanortalik Open Air Museum which showcases original Inuit items, Norse ruins and colonial buildings. Ensure you step outside to visit the camp and Eskimo huts for the full Nanortalik experience.

- READ MORE: Princess Cruises offers first authentic gelato experience at sea -

Perhaps the most impressive showcase of natural beauty in Nanortalik is the Tasermiut Fjord – perhaps you might notice the resemblance to the Alps with the stunning vistas.

To get the best look, visit this fjord with Princess Cruises by boat , taking you past two sheep farms before arriving at the fjord and getting a closer look than ever before. Going by boat is another way of embracing the Greenlandic way of life, as there are actually more boats than cars here, with towns not being connected by any roads.

Explore the truly unique destinations of Iceland and Greenland with Princess Cruises and experience the craft of a Princess cruise.

Or step into a medieval assembly room at the Schøtstuene Museum, and walk down Bryggen Wharf — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves wooden buildings from the days of the Hanseatic League.

Bergen has played a crucial role in Norwegian history and culture since Olav the Good founded the city in 1070. Perched between the sea and seven hills, Bergen has witnessed Vikings setting sail on voyages of exploration, trade and war. In the Middle Ages, its old port was a major trading hub for the Hanseatic League, the band of Germanic merchants whose trading empire encircled the Baltic and North Seas. In the 19th century, Bergen was home to such cultural luminaries as the virtuoso violinist Ole Bull and the composer Edvard Grieg.

The city retains much of its 18th- and 19th-century charm. Visitors to Bergen will encounter a city that offers a heady blend of natural beauty, history and culture.

Grundarfjordur, Iceland

On a cruise to Iceland, unveil Grundarfjordur’s heroic past. Climb the "Holy Mountain," which once housed a temple dedicated to Thor. Tour the 4,000-year old lava fields of Berserkergata, and live through the stories of Iceland’s sagas — tales of migration, war, religion and mythology. Or spend the day birdwatching in the fishing village of Arnarstapi, where gulls, fulmars and kittiwakes reside.

Sailing into Grundarfjordur, one travels into Iceland's heroic past, for this township - village really - is one of the oldest settlements on the island. The imposing landscape with its austere mountains, volcanoes and lava fields provided the dramatic setting for one of Iceland's cultural treasures, the sagas. Composed in the 10 and 11th centuries, the Icelandic sagas represent one of the oldest literary traditions in Western Europe. They are tales of migration and settlement, war and blood feud, Christianity versus the old dark gods of Norse mythology. In Grundarfjordur, the world of the saga is still present. One can tread the "Berserkers' Path" or climb the hillock called Helgafell, the "Holy Hill" mentioned in the Laxdæla saga where Vikings once worshipped Thor. Much of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is a national park. The park's centerpiece is the mighty Snæfellsjokull, an imposing stratovolcano with flanks buried beneath a glacial flow. The mountain is a frequent setting in Icelandic myth. The peninsula is also a birdwatcher's paradise.

Djupalonssandur

Once a bustling fishing village, this serenely beautiful black-pebbled beach soothes with a tinkling sound each time the tide rolls through its timeworn surface. Four giant lifting stones used to test fishermen's strength still remain.

With roots deep in Icelandic legend, this quaint fishing port stuns with dramatic volcanic rock formations including three blowholes and spectacular sweeping cliffs that house kittiwakes, arctic tern, razorbills and other seabirds.

A temple honoring Norse god Thor once graced the 240-foot summit of Helgafell, "the holy mountain," the celebrated last home and resting place for the heroine of the Laxdœla Saga, an ancient Icelandic love story.

Bjarnarhofn Shark Farm

After learning the basics of fermenting shark and touring this fascinating farm and museum, brave souls can sample hákarl, an Icelandic delicacy, and wash it down with Brennivin, local schnapps known as "Black Death."

Stykkisholmur

The largest town on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, this thriving center of commerce and tourism offers excellent fishing, access to the fjords, magnificent views and excursions and amazingly preserved Icelandic houses and buildings.

Beidafjordur Cruise

While taking in idyllic Breidafjordur, a shallow bay known for its dramatic tidal currents, splendid scenery and thrilling bird- and wildlife population, spot white-tailed eagles, puffins, cormorants, gray seals, dolphins and whales.

Grundarfjordur

During an engaging guided walking tour through this fascinating town, learn the ins and outs of Icelandic life, culture and customs, past and present, to form a compelling portrait of this nation and its people.

Berserkergata

According to the 9th century Eyrbyggja, a Viking saga, two Berserkers were hired to forge Iceland's first road through this massive lava field. The two finished the task in record time - only to be murdered by their employer while relaxing in a sauna.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Reykjavik is the gateway to natural wonders. On an Iceland cruise, warm up with a dip in the city’s Blue Lagoon, and cool down on a glacier walk across jagged ice formations. Ride across the countryside by horseback, soar over volcanic craters during a helicopter ride or snorkel through the waters of Thingvellir National Park. See the beauty of Iceland’s capital for yourself when you sail with Princess.

Iceland is a land of volcanoes and glaciers, lava fields and green pastures, boiling thermal springs and ice-cold rivers teeming with salmon. This unspoiled demi-paradise is also home to a very old and sophisticated culture. The northernmost capital in the world, Reykjavik was founded in 874 when Ingolfur Arnarson threw wood pillars into the sea, vowing to settle where the pillars washed ashore. Today, Iceland is an international center of commerce and home to one of the most technologically sophisticated societies in the world. Reykjavik is the gateway to Iceland's natural wonders, which range from ice fields to thermal pools. The island is in a continual process of transformation much like its society, which blends Nordic tradition with sophisticated technology.

Blue Lagoon

One of Iceland's hottest destinations, this stunning outdoor geothermal spa offers steamy mineral-rich water, a boon for the skin and certain skin conditions, that's fed by the excess underground water drawn by Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant.

Thingvellir National Park

Established in 1930 to protect an area of true historical, cultural and geological value, this remarkable national shrine features Iceland's largest natural lake and amazing views of the continental rift known as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Gullfoss Waterfall

The "Golden Waterfall," often complete with rainbows, wows as its rushing water tumbles down three natural, curving cascades then plunges down into a deep gorge to once again flow southward with the wide Hvítá River.

With explosive eruptions every few minutes, this awe-inspiring geyser stuns as it hurls boiling water up to 60 feet skyward. Mud pools, algal deposits and stark terrain add to the drama at this geothermal hotspot.

Geothermal Power Plant

Iceland's second largest power plant, Nesjavellir, sits near active volcano Hengill and Thingvallavatn, Iceland's chief natural lake. Using nearby boreholes from 1947, this geothermal plant produces the nation's top high-temp field.

Krysuvik Solfataras

Situated in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge's fissure zone, this famous geothermic field naturally produces steam vents, hot springs and super-heated mud pots whose sulfur deposits lead to a myriad of colorful crystal deposits.

Spectacular in form and function, this 10-story geothermally heated masterpiece serves greater Reykjavik's water storage needs while thrilling visitors with mesmerizing panoramic views and a glass-domed restaurant that revolves.

Eyrarbakki Fishing Village

Nestled on Iceland's serene south coast, this idyllic fishing village charms with majestic vistas, a sparkling shoreline with excellent bird watching and the country's oldest preserved timber dwelling, a Norwegian kit home from 1765.

Stavanger, Norway

Stavanger is a true icon of Norway. As the nation’s capital of cuisine, learn how to smoke and can sardines, and then taste them yourself. Attend a musical performance in the chapel of Utstein Kloster, a 12th-century abbey that was once home to Augustine monks. Or visit Old Stavanger during your Norway cruise, and enjoy an architectural tour through Europe’s largest collection of wooden buildings.

Norway's fourth largest city, Stavanger lies at the mouth of the Gandsfjord. The old port, attests to the sea's enduring role in Norwegian history. Here, Vikings once sailed on voyages of conquest and exploration. In later centuries, the port served as a major hub for Norway's mercantile and fishing fleets. By the mid-20th century, however, Stavanger had fallen on hard times as the fishing grounds dwindled. In 1969, the discovery of North Sea oil opened a new chapter in Stavanger's history. At the "Sword in the Rock" Monument, three giant crossed Viking swords commemorate King Harald Fair Hair's unification of Norway in 872 following his victory at the Battle of Hafrsfjord.

Lysefjord Cruise

One of the most famous fjords in the Stavanger region is Lysefjorden. The fjord is 42 km long with rocky walls falling nearly vertically over 1000 m into the water. This is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Norwegian nature.

Old Stavanger

Gamle Stavanger ('Old Stavanger') is believed to be Europe's largest collection of wooden buildings. Here, you'll find the Norwegian Canning Museum that displays a typical factory from the 1920's.

Jernaldegarden (Iron Age Farm)

Step back into the 4th and 5th centuries A.D. Tour the reconstructed wooden buildings with roofs of peat and bark from the days when our early ancestors first used iron implements and weapons.

Utstein Kloster

Built around 1160, the Abbey was once home to Augustine monks until the Reformation. It's been owned by the state since 1900, and is now popular for concerts, weddings, meetings and as a museum.

Petroleum Museum

Seen from the water, the museum looks like a small oil platform. Opened in 1999, this unusual landmark lets you discover the history of offshore petroleum activity especially in the North Sea.

Stavanger Cathedral

Stavanger domkirke or St. Swithun's cathedral was built between 1100 and 1150 by the English bishop Reinald. It's the only Norwegian cathedral that is almost unchanged since the 14th century.

Ullandhaug Viewpoint

Ullandhaug Viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Jæren countryside and Ryfylke Mountains to the east and of Hafrsfjord to the west.

Flor og Fjæ re Gardens

Isafjordur, Iceland

Description.

The town of Ísafjördur is the municipal centre of the West Fjords peninsula. The West Fjords are Iceland's least populated region, with 9,600 inhabitants in the area of 9,520 km. Isafjördur (population 3,500) formerly one of Iceland's main trading posts, was granted municipal status in 1886. Some of Iceland's oldest and best-preserved buildings, dating from the 18th century, are located in Ísafjördur. The town is still predominantly a fishing centre. A vigorous and varied cultural and artistic scene flourishes in the town as well. Mountains surround Ísafjördur on the three sides and the sea on the other. The ancient settlement site of Eyri downtown is enclosed by the narrow Skutulsfjördur fjord, which shelters the harbour in all weathers.

More about Isafjordur, Iceland Points of Interest

This enchanting oasis of tranquility is named Hólskirkja or "the church on the hill." Although built over a hundred years ago, a church has always stood on the same spot since 1200.

Located on the east side of the bay in Bolungarvik, the museum and the nearby restored fisherman's hut offer a picture into how local seamen made their livelihood over a century ago.

Located in one of Ísafjördur's oldest houses dating back to the 18th century, the museum exhibits include everything from fishhooks to a ship. Enjoy a taste of Icelandic delicatessie´s served by the museum's curator.

Just over a mile long and 450 yards wide, the island boasts Iceland's only windmill, Europe's smallest post office and 80,000 puffins. Enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages at one of the island's few homes.

This excursion takes you through the crystal clear waters and narrow bays of the Glacier Fjords to the isolated village of Hesteyri for a guided tour.

Part of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, your guided walk through the dramatic landscape includes a visit to the Hesteyri village, abandoned over 50 years ago, and a brisk hike to "the Doctor's House" for refreshments.

Visitors are often surprised to see flowers thriving so close to the Arctic at the Skrudur Botanical Garden, the oldest in Iceland.

Located on a beautiful fjord and surrounded by magnificent mountains, the small fishing village of Flateyri dates back to 1790 and became a major whaling center during the 19th century.

How to see the best of iceland on a cruise.

The port of Isafjordur in the westfjords region of Iceland has attracted record numbers of cruise ... [+] ships in recent years.

Unlike more traditional cruise destinations, Iceland presents a rugged, untamed beauty. Known for its raw and varied landscapes, Iceland offers a seemingly endless list of natural wonders, from the steaming geothermal vents and spouting geysers to the dramatic glaciers and thunderous waterfalls.

The island's rich Viking heritage and folklore add layers of intrigue to its already captivating landscapes.

This unique terrain, coupled with the opportunity—depending on the season—to enjoy the midnight sun or mystical northern lights, makes Iceland a prime destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those fascinated by the interplay of culture and the natural world.

Cruising around Iceland not only allows travelers to experience the volcanic landscapes from a unique vantage point but also offers convenient transport between the main ports and highlights of Iceland , all from the comfort of a modern cruise ship.

The cruise industry has recognized Iceland's appeal, offering an increasing variety of itineraries that cater to different interests and time frames, including extensive circumnavigations of the island.

According to Cruise Iceland , cruise ships registered almost one million passenger visits in 2023, marking an 80% increase from 2019.

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024, what to expect on iceland cruises.

The accessibility of remote fjords, wildlife encounters including puffins and whales, and the chance to experience the midnight sun in summer or witness the mystical northern lights in winter, are among the highlights of these voyages.

Something to bear in mind is the additional cost required for excursions, whether you book through the cruise line or choose independent options.

Unlike a Norwegian fjords cruise , which you can enjoy without leaving the ship, Iceland cruises require additional transport to reach the most iconic sites. They are also a wise idea if you want to make the most of wildlife-watching opportunities.

Whale watching is a major tourist attraction in Northern Iceland.

The most popular Icelandic cruise port is Reykjavik, followed by Akureyri in the north of the country, Isafjordur in the westfjords region, and Seydisfjordur on the east coast.

An itinerary that includes all four of these ports—Reykjavik, Akureyri, Isafjordur, and Seydisfjordur—offers guests a comprehensive appreciation of Iceland’s varied landscapes.

Fly-Cruise From Reykjavik

If you don’t mind flying, Reykjavik is the starting point for many of the more in-depth circumnavigations of Iceland.

Such cruises contain fewer sea days and may call at smaller ports, offering a more intimate experience of Iceland, while also allowing guests to spend a few days exploring the Icelandic capital before or after the cruise.

This 7-day Iceland Intensive itinerary from Celebrity Cruises begins and ends in Reykjavik and includes port calls in Reykjavik, Seydisfjordur, Djúpivogur, and Akureyri.

Iceland Cruises From The U.K.

The U.K. is a popular departure point for Iceland cruises, some of which may also include ports of call in Scotland and Norway. The Port of Southampton is the most common departure port, used by lines including Celebrity, Cunard, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruises, and Princess.

This 14-day cruise on Norwegian Prima starts and ends in Southampton and includes three Icelandic ports, including an overnight stay in Reykjavik, along with three ports of call in Norway.

Some small ship lines such as Ambassador, Fred Olsen, and Saga Cruises, offer departures from regional ports such as Dover, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Rosyth.

The gateway to the westfjords region, Isafjordur is increasingly found on Iceland cruise ... [+] itineraries.

Other popular departure points across Europe include the Netherlands (Celebrity, Holland America) and Germany (AIDA). Although the latter does welcome English speakers, some knowledge of German is advised to get the most from the experience.

Northern Transatlantic Route

Another option to consider is a one-way cruise between North America and Europe that calls in to at least one port in Iceland. Such repositioning cruises that take a northern route often include additional ports of call in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

Luxury Cruises To Iceland

In addition to the mainstream cruise lines, Iceland is a popular destination for luxury and ultra-luxury lines such as Seabourn, Silversea, and Windstar.

Iceland is also a popular destination for expedition cruise lines such as Aurora Expeditions, Hurtigruten Expeditions, and Lindblad. This option is worth considering for travelers interested in learning more about the science behind Iceland’s geology or the wildlife that calls its chilly waters home.

Packing For An Iceland Cruise

When packing for an Iceland cruise, remember that the weather can be as varied as the landscape itself. It's essential to be prepared for all conditions, regardless of the season.

The cornerstone of any travel wardrobe for Iceland is layering. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep you dry, add an insulating layer for warmth, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer. This approach allows you to adjust your clothing to match the weather, which can change several times in a day.

A waterproof jacket and pants are crucial, as rain is possible any time of the year. Waterproof hiking shoes or boots are also essential if you plan to explore Iceland's rugged terrain during port stops.

Don't forget warm accessories such as hats, gloves, and scarves, but also sun protection including sunglasses and sunscreen. For wildlife enthusiasts, a good pair of binoculars is invaluable. To keep all these accessories safe and at hand, a sturdy daypack is useful for shore excursions.

Blessed with excellent sandy bathing beaches and a vibrant town, Falmouth can offer you contrasts, convenience and choice in making the most of your holiday. Falmouth has an impressive record of excellence in tourism. Generations of investment, from the first custom built tourist hotel in 1865, to the imposing Ships & Castles Leisure Pool of today, makes Falmouth proud to welcome you! With one of the world's deepest natural harbours, today's Falmouth is fast developing its international reputation as one of the great sailing and watersports centres of the world. Every year new accolades are added to its impressive list of international sailing events. With marina facilities for the yachtsman and quays for visiting cruise liners, Falmouth is never short of interest and spectacle for the visitor. The Fal Estuary's deep water and sheltered anchorage have been of strategic importance to the defence of Britain since Tudor times. Any enemy securing the Estuary could easily land an army and bring in fresh supplies of food, weapons and soldiers. Henry VIII recognised this threat and built Pendennis and St Mawes Castles on opposite sides of the Estuary to protect the anchorage. Thus began one of the most fascinating stories of British Coastal defence spanning 450 years. Pendennis Castle is a showpiece of British History and one of Falmouth's gems. Built in the mid-sixteenth century, Pendennis overlooks the mile-wide mouth of the River Fal, at the most westerly point where it was possible to anchor safely. It is difficult to imagine today, when visiting this popular holiday area of Cornwall, how wild and remote this beautiful part of the coast used to be. But the massive walls, rambling rooms and stone staircases of Pendennis make it easy to imagine the scenes of bloody conflict 350 years ago. An exhibition in the old gun room helps you experience almost at first hand the sights and sounds of a Tudor battle. And there are artefacts from the Second World War, when Pendennis was again called into action. In Victorian times, Falmouth's world-wide links across the sea led to the development of public gardens containing wonderful collections of exotic plants. Owing to a year-round mild climate, plants such as Citrus, Daturas, Dracaena palms, Camellias, Abutious, Azaleas, Rohododendrons and many unusual species of Bamboo, still thrive today. At Fox Rosehill Gardens for example, Banana trees grow in the open! In addition to Falmouth's four main gardens of Gyllyndune, Kinberley Park, Fox Rosehill and Queen Mary, the vast gardens of Trelissick, Glendurgan and Trebah are all within easy reach of the town. Falmouth's town centre contains many of the expected high street shopping names, alongside restaurants and specialist shops with great maritime charm. Laced with many notable and unusual listed buildings (like the King's Pipe which was used to burn contraband tobacco in the days of old style smuggling), the town has a reassuring warmth and contains a surprising range of opportunities. The Falmouth Arts Centre, The Cornwall Maritime Museum (where the story of the famous Falmouth Packet shops is explained), and the Falmouth Art Gallery (with its renowned collection of Tuke paintings), complimented by the Princess Pavillion, together providing a comprehensive programme of exhibitions, concerts and theatrical events throughout the year. Touring groups, local, national and international performers and artists will all be found at Falmouth. Falmouth has four superb beaches: Gyllynvase, Castle, Swanpool and Maenporth. Each offers well managed facilities catering for both the active and the not so active beach afficionado. Alternatively, why not step aboard one of the many excellent pleasure boats plying the local waters of Falmouth and fully experience the maritime charm of this most beautiful part of Cornwall.

Queenstown it was for some decades before reverting to its old Irish name in 1922 - the Cobh (cove) of Cork. Is there anywhere in Ireland more full of poignant memories than this embarkation point for America? From here hundreds of thousands of mostly hungry and penniless Irish men and women left to build a new life, especially in the Famine years of 1844-48. Many thrived and prospered, but many died on the journey in the terrible travelling conditions of the time. It is a pleasant town; its streets climb the steep slope of a hill, the top of which is crowned by the very fine St. Coleman's Cathedral which has a carillon of 47 bells. Cobh is situated on Great Island, one of the three large islands in Cork harbour which are all now joined by roads and bridges - Little Island and Fota are the others. The harbour is one of the largest and safest anywhere, being capable of taking the largest vessels afloat. The great Transatlantic liners used to come in up to the 1950s. On the quayside there is a memorial to the victims of the Lusitania, many of whom are buried in the old church cemetery. The ship was sunk off Kinsale in 1915 by a German submarine, an action which was responsible for bringing the United States of America into the Great War, the survivors were brought back here. Another unhappy association is with the Titanic, 'the safest liner in the world'. Queenstown was her last port of call on her fateful maiden voyage. The Queenstown Story is based in the disused portions of the railway station at Cobh. This highly imaginative visitor attraction tells the story of emigration from Cobh in the period of the famine in 1845 up to the era of the great Liners in the 1950s. The historical role which Cobh harbour has played as a port is also illustrated. At Cobh, one looks over Haulbowline and Spike Islands, formerly the base of the Irish Naval Service. To the east, Cork Harbour leads to East Ferry. Roches Point can be seen to the south. To the south west is the yachting centre of Crosshaven.

Qaqortoq, sitting at the tip of the peninsula in the south of Greenland, is a clean pleasant harbor town built on the site of Hans Egede's search for the lost colonists. Although only boasting 3500 people, it's considered to be the hub of the south and is worth visiting in summer when the place explodes with wildflowers. The town's pride of possession is the town square fountain - the only one in Greenland - with the names of the town burghers, past and present, in brass letters on the base (although many names have fallen victim to souvenir hunters). Qaqortoq museum is worth a gander - it's one of Greenland's finest - and exhibits artifacts from past and present cultures. Mostly, though, Qaqortoq is used as a base for hiking treks: either one day hikes up 'Peter's Cairn’ or around the edge of the Tasersuaq Lake, or as a departure point for the three- to four-day treks to the neighboring town of Igaliku. The Hvalsey ruins, sitting on a coastal strip just out of Qaqortoq, are the most extensive and best preserved Norse ruins in Greenland. There is a choice of ferry services on most days of the week, and several daily flights to other settlements along the west coast. It's also possible to trek from some of the neighboring towns. Qaqortoq is 450km (279mi) down the coast from Nuuk, although the distance by foot would be much greater given the heavily fringed coastline.

Nanortalik is close to the southwestern tip of Greenland at the mouth of several fjords, south of Qaqortoq. Sites of interest include the colonial quarter of the town amid the surrounding fjord and mountains. Tourists can witness the imposing granite peaks and spires of the Nunaap Isua (Cape Farewell) and Tasermiut Fjord regions, where the scenery is spectacular.

Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country's capital and largest city. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. The striking concrete Hallgrimskirkja church and rotating Perlan glass dome offer sweeping views of the sea and nearby hills. Exemplifying the island’s volcanic activity is the geothermal Blue Lagoon spa, near the village of Grindavik.

Isafjorour is a town in the Westfjords region of northwest Iceland. It's known for its dramatic landscapes. The old town has wooden houses with corrugated tin roofs built by fishing merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Westfjords Heritage Museum has exhibits on the town’s maritime history, including a collection of old fishing boats. The old hospital, now a cultural center, contains archives and photography.

Akureyri is a city at the base of Eyjafjorour Fjord in northern Iceland. In the center, the 1940 Akureyri Church has stained-glass windows portraying scenes from Icelandic Christian history. There are views of the fjord from the forecourt. Nearby, the Akureyri Art Museum displays contemporary art from Iceland and farther afield. To the south are the Botanical Gardens, with specimens from across Iceland.

Iceland & Greenland 2025 on Majestic Princess

Lady Arwen

5,000+ Club

We recently booked a TA July 2025 on Majestic embarking in Southampton and disembarking in Boston.  Our itinerary includes Iceland and Greenland, two ports we have never been to and basically know very little about.

My DH has been researching weather and such, but everything is quite different on a cruiseship and we have never had the pleasure of sailing on Majestic.

I would appreciate any insight you could provide on the itinerary and on the ship itself.  I know many of you have experienced both and your opinion matters to me.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a great cruise.  I have to fly to UK for a round trip (ugh).  But do get 3 ports in Iceland and 2 ports in Greenland.

From researching YouTube and other sites, the weather may be cold and wet.  AND there are lots of bugs in the summer.

Greenland ports will be over-run by ship passengers (out numbered).  Excursions are very expensive...buy early.  Not much to do otherwise in Greenland except to walk the town or take a excursion out of town.  I'm dreading the tendering process.  The Majestic is too big to port.

Thanks

I can tell you that the Majestic was built for the Asian market. It is a Royal Class ship with some different offerings and design. It has an indoor pool, The Hollywood Pool Club and an enclosed forward looking lounge, The Hollywood Conservatory.

I have been to Reykjavik by cruise ship. There are lots of very interesting things to do many of them have to do with the volcanic activity such as the Blue Lagoon. Halifax is a great port. The ship docks at the end of a roughly mile long waterfront promenade, easy to walk. There are also trips to many locations such as Peggy's Cove.

The Canadian ports we are very familiar with.  We’ve spent a few summers in the Maritimes.  We’re also doing Canada New England on Enchanted this August and will be visiting both ports.  Our greatest interest is Iceland and Greenland.

We did view the ship on YouTube and it looks lovely, but was wondering how people liked it.  We’ve sailed many Royal class sailings, but Majestic is uniquely different.

Thanks for relying.  Appreciate it.

Are you on this sailing or a different one?  We live in the country in Ontario and believe me flying insects are everywhere!  Same for cold and wet.  We have two seasons….July and winter. lol

Doing Iceland/Greenland THIS summer.

Cool Cruiser

That looks like a great sailing.

I've been to both Halifax and St. John's. St John's is a really cool small city with a dramatic narrow harbor. I didn't sail in when I visited, but I'd want to be on deck coming and going. The Cape Spear lighthouse is worth a visit - the easternmost point of Canada is there.

Halifax has a very walkable waterfront, as mentioned above. The Citadel is a historic fortification at the top of the hill, built to protect the harbor. I believe there is also a Titanic memorial site nearby, if that interests you.

Thank you.  As Canadians, we’ve been to the Maritimes on several occasions, and we love it there.  We have friends in Halifax and have visited the harbour a few times.

Our real point of interest is Iceland and Greenland.  We’ve never imagined going there til now.  I’m sure it will be very interesting.

I just looked up Majestic July 2025.  I see 3 Iceland ports, but NO Greenland stops.  That would be a no go for me.

Please report back to us when you get home!  I would love to get your opinion on the itinerary and the ship, too.

Have a wonderful time!

Darn it!  We were confusing another sailing.  We have commitments this July or I would be cancelling and booking your sailing.  That would have been fantastic!  We’re just going to have make do with what we’ve got.  I really hate senior brain.  I was convinced we were going to Greenland! lol

Cancel your July 2024 commitment ... lol...  sorry.

If I could I would, for sure!   I’ll be looking forward to hearing all about your adventures.

Apparently, we’re not going to Greenland!  Duh on me.  This is what happens when you look at so many cruises and on different cruiselines, they all blend together.  So just Iceland.  That’s okay, we’ll manage!

Thank you!  DH and I will sit down later and have a good look at your thread.  Funny, Summit is our favourite M class ship.  Just the right size, too.  Sailed many times to Bermuda on Summit and loved every single one.  She has one of the best crews we’ve ever sailed with.  Now I’m all nostalgic for Summit. lol

I just looked at the thread and I was a little “long winded” back then when posting to my Live From threads. 😂

Hopefully I’ve got a little better, starting with my Fall 2022 Africa Live From thread and others since then (see below expanded signature). But here’s some help finding the starting posts regarding the various ports on the first leg.

Love your long winded style.  Glad I had an opportunity to sail with you.  Thank you.

Us too! That was a pretty cool cruise around Japan with stops in Korea!  😀

You cruise too often.  We were on the fall Canadian Cruise with your "both" your kids.  Give my love to them.  They were so kind to us.

I like the Majestic Princess because of the Asian Noodle Bar and Hollywood Conservatory.  I think the Noodle Bar is a great alternative to Lido pizza.  I've never paid for The Sanctuary usage, so I thought the free use covered Hollywood Conservatory was great.  It can get crowded during scenic cruising days.  You have to pass the Hollywood Pool to get to the Conservatory and the chlorine smell can be overwhelming to some, but it dissipates as when you reach the Conservatory.  The Double Down bar is a nice place for quiet.  When we on last June, it wasn't used in the evening as an event venue--no live music.  It was formerly the VIP area for the Casino.

Other differences with Royal Class ships:

  • No Crooners
  • Sabatini's is replaced with Harmony, which is Chinese fusion food.  Some speak highly of the food and others not so much.
  • There is no aft pool.
  • Signage is in both English and Mandarin.
  • Getting out of the Theatre on Deck 7 is a problem when the shops are closed because there is a port side door that leads into shops which is closed when the shops are closed.  It creates unnecessary congestion.

Lots of disappointment with Iceland and Greenland lately due to weather and ships not being able to dock.  Iceland has an active volcano which when active can also prevent the ship from calling.  Was fortunate to have gone to both, Iceland with a Norway cruise and Greenland with a Canada cruise.  Our friends have tried to go to Iceland twice on a cruise and no dice, cancelled due to weather.

You're right, they do start to merge together after a while, especially after going on the 30-day Antarctica/SA cruise we just got home from on Tuesday!  😂  But the Canadian cruise was an awesome one as well!!

Thank you!  This is what I was looking for.  I knew there were differences on Majestic and you did a great job pointing those out.  I’ve also been aware of the difficulties actually getting to Iceland due to weather.  With three ports, hopefully we’ll get at least one.

We are seasoned cruisers and learned a long time ago to expect the unexpected on a cruise.  We’ve missed many ports and been disappointed more times than I can count.  However, we just go with the flow and make lemonade.  With vodka.

We have sailed on the Majestic quite a few times and it's a ship that we have enjoyed very much.  The only exception is the fact that there is no Sanctuary, BUMMER!  We will be sailing on her for 33 days in April/May and for 51 days in December/January.  I plan on doing a "Live" thread for both, so if you have any specific questions about the ship I can certainly answer them for you.

6 Top Transatlantic Cruises for 2024

T ransatlantic cruises are unique when you compare them to traditional cruises most people book for family trips and romantic getaways. These voyages tend to be longer in general, and they have more built-in days at sea and offer a lot more time on board as a result. Repositioning cruises that include a transatlantic crossing tend to attract more retirees and travelers who just want to relax and enjoy their ships' amenities, especially since fewer days in port means fewer excursions and more time doing nothing at all.

That said, the fact that transatlantic cruises can last as few as seven nights means they may fit in your plans more easily than you may think. There are also some benefits to transatlantic crossings that may not be obvious, including lower nightly rates, more onboard credit, and more time to kick back and relax at a floating luxury resort in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're curious which transatlantic cruises are best for 2024, here are six top picks with different cruise lengths, itineraries and unique destinations to explore.

Explore cruises on GoToSea , a service of U.S. News.

Cunard Line

Date: Departs May 5, 2024

Departure port: Brooklyn, New York

Starting price: $2,449 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 7 to 18 nights

In May of 2024, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 vessel will offer three different transatlantic crossings of various lengths. Choose from a seven-night sailing from Brooklyn, New York , to Southampton, England; a nine-night sailing to Hamburg, Germany ; and an 18-night round-trip sailing that departs from Brooklyn and crosses the Atlantic twice on the way back to its starting point. This unique combination of itineraries lets you cross the sea and tailor your trip to how long you want to be away from home.

The 18-night itinerary is especially interesting, since it lets you depart from the United States and arrive back in Brooklyn in the end with stops in both England and Germany, as well as plenty of sea days in between. Luxury cruise line Cunard is known for its elegant design, lush amenities and upscale feel, and the Queen Mary 2 is one of the line's most luxurious ships. Highlights on this exclusive vessel include the Royal Court Theatre, a casino, gala evenings, an onboard spa and a vast library. The Queen Mary 2 holds up to 2,691 guests with 1,173 crew to cater to your every need.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Date: Departs March 24, 2024

Departure port: Miami

Starting price: $5,949 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 21 nights

Seabourn is offering a 21-night transatlantic cruise from Miami on Seabourn Quest in March 2024 that offers a diverse range of ports of call before ending its voyage in Las Palmas in Spain's Canary Islands . Departure from Miami is followed by nine days at sea. Then, you'll enjoy multiple stops in the Canary Islands – including Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Sebastián de La Gomera – as well as stops in Praia and Mindelo the Cape Verde archipelago.

This journey with Seabourn makes it possible for travelers to see some of the most beautiful and remote tropical islands in the world. The Canary Islands are known for their white sand beaches , volcanoes and lush greenery; similar landscapes can also be found in Cape Verde's coastal towns and villages. Seabourn Quest, a smaller ocean vessel, accommodates just 229 guests.

MSC Cruises

Date: Departs Nov. 8, 2024

Departure port: Southampton, England

Starting price: $769 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 16 nights

The MSC Virtuosa from MSC Cruises is repositioning from Europe to the Caribbean in November 2024, which gives travelers the chance to enjoy a lengthy transatlantic crossing with plenty of unique ports. This sailing departs from England with eight sea days plus stops in France, the Azores of Portugal, St. Maarten , Antigua and Barbuda, and Martinique . The ship ends its journey in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The MSC Virtuosa is a larger cruise vessel that boasts an impressive grand promenade with a LED dome ceiling, dedicated clubs for children and teens, an onboard spa, a lavish casino and the luxurious MSC Yacht Club section of the ship. This vessel holds a maximum of 6,334 passengers at once.

Princess Cruises

Date: Departs July 5, 2024

Departure port: New York City (Manhattan or Brooklyn)

Starting price: $4,098 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 31 nights

Princess Cruises also offers its share of transatlantic sailings on various vessels. Its 31-night crossing from New York to Barcelona, Spain , on Island Princess in July 2024 is jam-packed with exciting destinations to explore. This lengthy transatlantic voyage has only 13 sea days with planned stops in Canada's Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, Spain, Portugal and Morocco before the journey ends in Barcelona.

This intriguing sailing experience with Princess takes passengers to eight different countries in the span of a month. Island Princess is a nice ship for a long sailing because of its smaller size, with just 2,200 passengers and 900 crew. But the ship is also large enough to have a huge selection of included and specialty dining options, a Vegas-style casino, a sports court, a large central atrium for gathering, and several pools and hot tubs to enjoy.

Celebrity Cruises

Date: Departs April 11, 2024

Departure port: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Starting price: $760 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 12 nights

Celebrity Cruises is offering a 12-night sailing on Celebrity Equinox in April 2024 that starts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and ends in Lisbon, Portugal – making it possible for travelers to enjoy eight relaxing days at sea. What's interesting about this sailing is its stops along the way, which include the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda; Porta Delgada in Portugal's Azores archipelago; and Porto in mainland Portugal.

The Celebrity Equinox accommodates a maximum of just 2,852 passengers at once, so this Celebrity vessel is a solid choice for travelers who want just the right size ship instead of a smaller vessel or a megaship. There are also plenty of onboard features to keep you happy and entertained as you float across the Atlantic Ocean, including The Casino, The Lawn Club with outdoor games like bocce ball and croquet, The Martini Bar, the adults-only Solarium and more.

Royal Caribbean International

Dates: Departs Oct. 24, 2024

Departure port: Barcelona, Spain

Starting price: $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 14 nights

Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is hosting a transatlantic voyage in October 2024 that departs from Barcelona, Spain, and ends in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This vessel will make stops in Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena and Málaga in Spain, then spend eight days at sea. After that, enjoy a day in Nassau in the Bahamas before the cruise drops passengers off in sunny Florida.

Interior staterooms on this Royal Caribbean sailing start at just $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees), which works out to around $60 per night, per person. The Oasis of the Seas megaship can hold a total of 6,771 guests and 2,109 crew, so it's an enormous vessel – to put it mildly. This size may not be ideal for travelers who want a more intimate cruising experience, but it's perfect for cruisers who want plenty of space to spread out and endless activities to take part in. Oasis of the Seas boasts 20 different restaurants and cafes, 11 bars and lounges, a variety of pools and whirlpools, a rock climbing wall, the AquaTheater diving and entertainment venue, mini-golf, a casino and plenty more.

Departure city: Vancouver, British Columbia

The 2024 cruise season brings Princess' 55th-anniversary sailing to The Great Land, and the line is offering more than 150 Alaska voyages between April and September. The popular Voyage of the Glaciers with Glacier Bay itinerary northbound from Vancouver to Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska , is available on dozens of dates this season on Grand Princess , Royal Princess or Sapphire Princess . The sailing includes stops in the ports of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, as well as scenic cruising in beautiful Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve and College Fjord in Alaska. If you prefer a smaller ship, choose Grand Princess or Sapphire Princess, which hold 2,610 and 2,680 passengers (double occupancy), respectively. Meanwhile, Royal Princess accommodates 3,560 guests at double occupancy.

The Princess Cruises North to Alaska program features immersive, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the history and traditions of the 49th state. Guests can sample fresh local seafood and meet famous Alaskans such as Libby Riddles, the first woman to win the 1,100-mile Iditarod dog race. In Skagway, families can meet some of the newest sled dogs and their handlers during Puppies in the Piazza on the ship. Younger cruisers and teens can participate in the Alaska Explorers Youth Program in partnership with Glacier Bay National Park and the Discovery Channel, which includes activities like the "Deadliest Catch" Crab Sort Challenge.

The North to Alaska program also partners with Discovery and Animal Planet to feature onboard exhibits about Alaska, as well as curated excursions like the White Pass Rail Bennett Lake & Yukon Adventure in Skagway, which was created by a train historian. Back on the ship, kids and teens can hang out with other young cruisers their age at Camp Discovery's Treehouse (ages 3 to 7), Lodge (8 to 12) or Beach House (13 to 17). In addition, be sure to keep an eye out for Princess Cruises' Alaska mascot: Stanley the Bear. You might even find him during story time at the kids clubs wearing a captain's uniform or destination-themed costumes, such as lumberjack gear in Ketchikan.

The entire family will enjoy excursions like the Whale Watching & Bear Search tour in Icy Strait Point, while thrill-seekers of all ages will want to book an adrenaline-pumping ride down the mountain on the massive ZipRider zip line. In Ketchikan, take a hike through Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the U.S., where you might catch glimpses of wildlife like black bears or bald eagles. You can also head offshore from Ketchikan aboard the Aleutian Ballad, the famed ship from Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch," to pick up the day's bounty of king crab and search for marine wildlife along Alaska's Inside Passage.

This seven-night itinerary aboard Disney Wonder departs round-trip from Vancouver on several voyages throughout the 2024 Alaska season, which runs from May to September. The weeklong Disney Cruise Line sailing includes glacier viewing along the Stikine Icecap and stops in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Plus, you'll enjoy plenty of Disney fun on board, with character meet-and-greets, Broadway-quality shows, and entertaining activities and venues for kids and adults alike.

Many of the ship's nautical-themed staterooms are designed with families in mind and feature a "split bath" concept and extra under-bed storage for suitcases. Disney Wonder can hold 1,750 passengers at double occupancy and 2,700 passengers at maximum capacity. The ship's unique rotational dining venues include an "under the sea" adventure at Triton's, a dinner show with Disney characters at Animator's Palate and Southern specialties with jazz music at Tiana's Place. For a night out sans kids, adults can savor a quiet evening with northern Italian cuisine at Palo or nosh on casual pub fare at Crown & Fin Pub. Younger sailors will find age-appropriate spaces at Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab, tween venue Edge, and teen club Vibe.

Disney's excursions also offer family fun ashore – especially in Skagway. Try panning for gold with Disney characters like Donald Duck, then feast on baked Alaska salmon at Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp. You can also take an extended six-hour tour by boat into Alaska's deepest fjord, Lynn Canal, then hike through the rainforest to reach your canoe for a wilderness safari at Glacier Point. For a bucket list splurge, reserve a spot on the helicopter flightseeing tour that includes dog mushing on the Denver Glacier with a team of Alaska sled dogs.

Holland America Line: 7-Day Alaska Inside Passage

Holland America's Koningsdam will sail the line's seven-day Inside Passage itinerary more than 20 times between April and September in 2024. This round-trip voyage embarks in Vancouver and includes multiple days of scenic cruising. You'll sail through the Inside Passage for two days; through Tracy Arm Inlet, where you can disembark for a shore excursion; and through Glacier Bay, where the Junior Ranger Program is a highlight for kids. The ports of call on this itinerary are Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan in Alaska.

Koningsdam features dedicated family staterooms with beds for up to five guests, two bathrooms and extra closet space. The ship carries 2,650 guests at double occupancy and 3,194 passengers at maximum capacity. A wildlife expert on the ship helps guests spot Alaska's incredible marine and land animals through announcements and during daily programs. Keep an eye out for humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, moose, brown bears and other wildlife. While in the Tracy Arm Wilderness Area, you'll want to take the Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer excursion to explore glacier-covered mountains, jagged cliffs and the largest temperate rainforest in the U.S. surrounding the fjord. On a high-speed catamaran, you'll get up-close views of the Sawyer Glaciers and have potential sightings of harbor seals, bears, mountain goats and more.

Back on board, Holland America Line 's kids club offers supervised, age-appropriate activities for young cruisers ages 3 to 17 – including children who may need certain accommodations. You'll also find plenty of family-friendly options for dining on Koningsdam, including Lido Market, New York Pizza and the poolside Dive In grill. During the cruise, look for themed evenings in the Lido Market like salmon bakes or seafood boil pop-up dinners, which are in line with Holland America's commitment to serving certified sustainable and traceable Alaska seafood. An Alaska brunch is also offered once during the voyage in the main dining room; you'll enjoy dishes highlighting ingredients from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

While in Icy Strait Point, book a guided nature walk excursion along the "Trail of the Bears" in the bush country of the Spasski River Valley. During your search for Alaska's coastal brown bears, you'll also learn about the Tlingit culture and community in Hoonah, and perhaps even see Sitka black-tailed deer and bald eagles.

Back on the ship, Celebrity's Camp at Sea program entertains children, tweens and teens ages 3 to 17 with four different age-appropriate programs: Shipmates (ages 3 to 5), Cadets (ages 6 to 9), Captains (ages 10 to 12) and Teens (ages 13 to 17). The customizable activities change every cruise and are based on the interests of the participants. Celebrity also offers autism-friendly activities and services for families on board.

When it comes to dining options on the ship, families will find kid-friendly selections on the in-room dining menu and at the main restaurant. For quick casual fare, head to the buffet-style Oceanview Café or to the Mast Grill for burgers and other grab-and-go bites. If you want healthier dishes, the Spa Café offers homemade energy bars, acai bowls, turkey wraps and other light choices.

UnCruise Adventures: Glacier Bay Adventure Cruise

Kids enjoying a skiff ride in Alaska.

Courtesy of UnCruise Adventures

If you prefer a small-ship cruise experience without the bells and whistles of some larger vessels, UnCruise offers adventure-style cruises to Alaska on its fleet of safari- and expedition-style ships. With these intimate cruises, you and the kids (ages 8 and older) can get up close to glaciers, wildlife and Alaska's vast wilderness directly from the ship via Zodiacs and kayaks. You may even see wildlife from a short distance away along the shoreline, as UnCruise vessels are able to sail into smaller waterways that are inaccessible to larger ships.

The line's Glacier Bay Adventure Cruise features two full days in pristine Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve aboard the Wilderness Discoverer, which holds a maximum of 76 passengers. Here, guests can hike along remote coastlines amid old-growth forests, view sea life up close and go birding at South Marble Island. You'll also have the opportunity to see several tidewater glaciers, go kayaking in the Keku Islands and explore Neka Bay on Chichagof Island. Another highlight is a visit to Glacier Bay Lodge at Bartlett Cove, the only hotel accommodations in the 3.3 million-acre national park. The seven-night itinerary departs round-trip from Juneau and is offered between April and September 2024.

The full itinerary includes stops in Icy Strait and Neka Bay; Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve; Chichagof Island (which boasts the world's largest population of brown bears per square mile); Frederick Sound; and Tracy Arm and the Sawyer Glaciers. During the weeklong cruise, you'll have narration by expert onboard guides and embark on some of the most memorable adventures your kids will ever have in Alaska's remote wilderness.
